  • Hi everyone!

I have only just heard about the 5:2 approach after a relative lost a substantial amount of weight on the programme so I thought I would give it a go too. I plan to fast every Monday and Thursday and weigh in on Fridays (although is that cheating? Weighing yourself after a fast day?) I will also, for the first time ever take my measurements – bust, waist, hips, thighs and arms. I have completed my first week which looks like this…

    Starting Weight: 71.7kg
    Current Weight: 70.6kg
    LOSS THIS WEEK: 1.1kg
    TOTAL LOSS: 1.1kg

    I wish everyone here luck!

    Hi and welcome:

And here is a weight loss pattern you might experience: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/really-no-weight-loss/

    Good Luck!

Thank you for those links simcoeluv, I found them an interesting and informative read.

Hi I just joined the forum today, and this is my second Fast day. I also do Monday and Thursday. Monday was fine but today I am hungry. I have just bought the fast cook to see if this will help me make my dinner quicker as I have had the same food both fast days. I think I will soon get bored with having stir frys.

Oh and my weigh in days is also a Friday. Do I think it is cheating getting weighed the day after a fast YES but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am also trying to stick to 1200 calories the other days.

Hi Maggie1. I also decided that it probably was cheating but have not changed it! Today is my fourth fast day and I have found it my easiest one so far. Incidentally, I struggled last Thursday, my second fast day, so hopefully the next one will be easier for you. I had chicken breast and a Caesar Salad for dinner and throughout enjoyed it!

I was trying to stick to 1200 calories a day but found it too restricting so I upped it to 1500 and that is working much better for me.

Do let me know how you’re getting on.

Hicece262 I also think if you get weighed after a fast day and the scales tell you want to know then that will give you a boost to go on and do well over the weekend cause lets face it the weekend are tuff.

I was thinking of try keeping my fast day Mon/thurs. Then the 1200calories tues/wed/Frid and if I am struggling I will up the weekends sat/sun to 1500.
Does that sound complicated, Oh well I am trying to write everything down so that will help keep track of all these calories.

    Will post me loss tomorrow.

We’ll I have just ‘weighed in’ and am pleased with the progress I am making, especially as I do not feel I am depriving myself of anything. At the end of my second week it looks like this:-

    Starting Weight: 71.7kg
    Current Weight: 68.8kg
    LOSS THIS WEEK: 1.8kg
    TOTAL LOSS: 2.9kg

I am aware that at the beginning of a new way of eating weight may come off more quickly for various reasons, but nevertheless I’m pleased with this weeks loss as it gives me a boost of morale to keep on going 🙂

Maggie1, how are you doing today?

    Hi cece262
Got weighed in after my first week on 5/2 and i am happy to say i’ve lost 2.5lds. Well happy. I think this diet may be good for me. I did a fast day yesterday but didnt feel just a hungry as i thought i would be today.Didnt eat breakfast till after 11 o’clock. i cant beleive i am saying this cause i have a great relationship with food i love it and it loves me but i am excited about this way of dieting. I got my friend munchy1 to sigh up to the forum . go munchy1u can do it

Well done u are doing well cece262 . Keep up the good work .

Congratulations maggie1, what a brilliant first week! I am glad you found your Thursday fast day ok 🙂 I also feel that this diet is good for me. I’ve had a lovely weekend with friends staying so there was LOTS of food and drink involved but I felt ready for a fast day this morning which must be a good sign. I hope your week goes well and that your friend has a good first week too!

    Good luck!

The end of my 3rd week. I found this week hard, fasting on Monday with no problems and then attempting to fast Wednesday which I didn’t manage (after my husband came home with goodies.) Because of this slip up I was going to fast yesterday but my heart wasn’t really in it so i went 200ish over my 500 calories. I have a cold and am feeling sorry with myself so that’s my excuse! Nevertheless I still lost weight, losing 0.4kg which I believe is just under 1lb.

    Starting Weight: 71.7kg
    Current Weight: 68.4kg
    LOSS THIS WEEK: 0.4kg
    TOTAL LOSS: 3.3kg

Hi all, on my second weigh in and lost another 2.5lds i am delighted. Thats 5 lds in 2wks on the 5 -2. I did have a blow out this wknd but back on the olan and had a fast day to dad.

Mmmmm that doesn’t make sense. I meant to say today.

Well done Maggie1, I hope your week is going well.

I planned to fast on Monday but it didn’t go to plan after a busy and tiring day at work. I have fasted today and done quite well, only going over 500 cals by 39 cals so I am pleased but I am fasting tomorrow as well so will see how it goes; I’ve never had two fasting days in a row and am aware it might give me a false reading on the scales on Friday! Time will tell.

Got weighed , friday. Stayed the same. Was just a we bit disappointed.wasnot great again this wknd. I may need to take drastic action and try fast 3days this wk. Did u manage the two days in a row fasting. Cece262.

Hi, completely forgot to write on Friday! I am sorry you were disappointed maggie1 especially as you have done so well so far! Just forget about last week and move on and if you can manage 3 days (I’m pretty sure I couldn’t!) great and if not then it’s not the end of the world.
I did manage the two back to back fast days but was nearer 550cals each day. Am going to do my usual Mon/Thurs fasts this week.
The weight is coming off slowly but steadily which is the best way I suppose. One month on the 5:2 and it’s looking like this:

    Starting weight: 71.7kg
    Current weight: 67.7kg
    LOSS THIS WEEK: 0.7kg
    TOTAL LOSS: 4.0kg

Well I am late updating after a busy weekend which followed a week of no fast days at all! It was the end of term at school and too much chocolate in the staff room was my downfall. Didn’t weigh myself on Friday, I couldn’t bear to. We then spent the weekend with friends celebrating my husbands birthday which was yesterday so another day out and more food entailed. I weighed myself this morning (69.6!) but I’m hoping that will have gone down by Friday. I am hoping to manage 2 fast days this week, Weds and Thurs.

On a positive note two people remarked that I looked slimmer over the weekend! Incentive to keep going!

Will update my weight over the weekend.

    Hi Cece and Maggie,

Your stories are inspiring. I am just starting on the 5:2 diet this week. I have lost about 45 lbs over the past year doing the HCG diet but don’t feel it’s a good one to stay on long term. This one seems more like a lifestyle as opposed to a diet. I am trying to get off another 15-20 lbs. Yesterday was supposed to be my first fast day. Had a light breakfast of oatmeal, blueberries and tea around 6 am. Planned to eat again at 6 pm but sons school bus was very late and we ended up getting pizza. I did well all day, had some tea and water mid afternoon, however, by about 5:30 ish I ended up with the worst stomach pains ever, they even doubled me over at times

    Question.

Why does half my post not show. I’ve tried twice and half of it is gone?

    Thanks

Hi all got weighed on friday and lost 1.5lds that a total now of 6 .5lds. Feel great on the 5.-2 diet . Got a long way to go but after 5wks i am still sticking to it on a monday and thursday. I have the girls in my office all doing it.i also ready the book and it is really inspiring. Good luck all for this week.

    Hi Maggie1 and Djrj00,

What a great weigh in you had Maggie1, you are doing so well! I am embarrassed to say that I had another bad week. I’m not at work at the moment as it is the Easter Holidays and I am finding it really hard to fast without work to distract me (and the fact I keep meeting people for coffee, which always seems to involve cake!) Today is a new week though and I am fasting today and seem to be in a good mindset to do it 🙂 I shall update at the end of the day whether I managed to do it. I have also asked my husband to service my bike so I am hoping to start doing a little exercise in the evenings after my son has gone to bed.

Djrj00 – so have lost a lot of weight on the HCG diet but I do agree but this is more of a lifestyle diet. I am not sure about your stomach pains, have you had them again on other fast days? Maybe it’s just your body adjusting.

Good luck for the week ahead!

I managed to complete my fast which has spurred me on to have a good week – phew! I hopped on the scales this morning and was a little shocked with what I saw, it’s amazing now much weight you can put on in just two weeks off the plan, but I really did go to town with eating whatever I wanted. Oh well, I can’t undo it so it’s onwards and upwards!

Phew! Well I’ve got to Friday and have managed my two fast days (just! I was starving yesterday) I’m at my parents now for the Easter weekend so I used different scales this morning to weigh in:

    Starting weight: 71.7kg
    Current weight: 68.5kg
    LOSS THIS WEEK: NONE!
    TOTAL LOSS: 3.2kg

It’s a shame that I let myself slip as I am now back to where I was almost a month ago but never mind. I have set myself a mini goal; to be 66.7kg in 5 weeks time so I will need to be more motivated than I have been recently. I plan to fast Tuesday & Thursday next week but also calorie count (1530kcal) the other days. Oh, and to get out on my bike after work!

Good luck with all those Easter Eggs everyone!

    Hi cece,
It’s great that you are back on plan. I hope to get there next week. Finding it hard to stay on the IF when my hubby comes home ( he works away for weeks at a time) as he wants all the goodies he doesn’t get while away. He just went back so I’m starting today with another fast day plus I have to work so that should help keep my mind off food. Lol. Hopefully. Stomach pains were gone on my next fast day but I had tea in the am and then a good lunch and dinner just like on hcg and that worked so that’s my plan from now on. Have a great Easter.

I have had a very good week with 2 fast days and have managed to exercise for 20 minutes everyday and this morning I weighed myself and scales are showing that I’ve put on 1kg! I’m so disappointed, especially as I didn’t go over board eating wise on the other days.
