  • Afternoon fellow fasters!

I’ve followed the 5:2 regime for a month without spilling the beans to anyone (‘cept t’other half who is on it also!) – more so that I wouldn’t get egg on my face if it didn’t work for me or if I gave up on it! Well, I can report that so far it’s a success!

    Started at 16st 12lbs, as of this morning 16st 2lbs – a 10lb loss, average at 2.5lbs per week.

I’m a 63yr old man, 6ft 2ins tall, who has been overweight since early childhood and no diet has worked for me (in the long term anyway) as I always reverted to old eating habits when I came off them. The appeal of this method, for me, is the likelihood of my eating habits being altered to my benefit. The fact that I don’t have to ‘suffer’ day after day is a real positive. I know that if I can get through today I can relax for a few days without the constant nagging fear that tomorrow is going to be ‘more of the same’.

In moments of real hunger, (there have been a few!) – I have a drink of water, brew tea (always with skimmed milk and sweetener, but this is our favoured option at home anyway) or chew on a stick of celery. At first,I found getting off to sleep a bit of a problem, so I made adjustments. A cup of tea and either a small piece of toast or a digestive biscuit works wonders! I believe that whatever works for you is valid, provided you don’t overdo it. After all, the ‘proof’ is in the weight loss – if you’re losing, it’s working!

Now, I’m a golfer. And for golfers the order of the day is 1/ bacon butties (it’s the law) 2/ big portions (cos you’ve been out in the fresh air taking exercise) 3/ a beer or two afterwards with your mates (well, you just do, don’t you?) Moderation is the key……..

I love a curry but curries are VERY calorific. So instead of 1 a week, I now have 1 a fortnight. Ditto other favourites and if I find this is hampering my progress, I’ll stretch out the intervals a bit more. Sunday dinner is the exception, however! My good lady is a very good cook and I’m not prepared to give up her roasts – but, lo and behold, I couldn’t finish all of my meal last night – unheard of in my house, where I’m likely to finish mine and yours as well! Looks like things are changing………..

Best wishes to everyone in your own personal journey, I hope your results bring joy to you, too!

    Rich

(Oh yes, nearly forgot – my wife, she’s lost half a stone as well – but she’s got a lot less to lose than I have!)
