  • Hi everyone my name is Ali, im a 26 year old Nurse from England. This is my first attempt at the 5:2 diet. I feel it is perfect for me as i’m a girl who loves my food and gets bored easily. However i still have a desire to be slim and look as good as I can and be healthy.
Previously i have always had a very hardcore approach to dieting, cutting my calories and being super strict with diet and exercise (I’m also quite active and enjoy working out at the gym/running about 3 times a week). I would lose a lot of weight quickly, but not be able to stick to it, then give up and binge on everything id deprived myself of, consequently gaining back all the weight i have lost.
So the 5:2 approach seems ideal! I can still enjoy dinners and eating out with my boyfriend, and the odd boozy night out with the girls, allow myself the odd treat so i dont feel deprived but still lose weight. It will be a slower rate than im used to (if i lose 1-2lbs a week) but hopefully i can maintain it and do this plan long term. As summer/holidays are a while off, there is no need to rush/crash diet and from experience that does not work!
I’m 5’5 and currently 9st 7lbs (133lbs). My happy weight is 9st but in an ideal world i’d like to get to 8st 7lbs.
I’m on my first fast day today so here’s wishing myself good luck! And im looking forward to reading about everyone else’s experiences in the forum.

Hi Alih87 and welcome to the forums!!

good luck on your first fast today, am sure you’ll be fine 🙂 I am the same weight as you but I am only 5’3 lol, so yes ideally I would love to go just under 9 st 🙂

    happy fasting 😉

So i’m through majority of the first week. And this morning i have to say i feel amazing!! : )
I did my first two fast days Fri/sat (consequtively, as i’m going to do them to fit around my shifts…from what i’ve read this shouldnt be a problem). I stuck to 500 cals and still exercised.
I won’t lie on my second fast day i was quite hungry…but i stayed strong and stuck to it. The next morning i felt quite weak and tired (this is also likely due to lack of sleep from my night shifts haha) but after i’d had some crumpets to eat i felt fine. Through the rest of the day i didn’t feel particularly hungry or anything as I thought i might have. Then when i went out with my bf for dinner i had some healthy chicken and vegetables which i really enjoyed (i enjoyed it being healthy nourishing food).
Then this morning i made some oats for breakfast and will hit the gym shortly. I am feeling really positive that i will enjoy healthy nourishing foods on my days off to fuel my body and I know that on my fast days, if i am struggling, just to hang on in there and i will surely reap the benefits. Yay for 5:2!!

Hi Ali. It’s my 1st day today and as suited my schedule, it was a Fast Day. I am a retired nurse in Australia. Like you I have been really strict when dieting and lost over 20 kgs in the past…but like you then ate and drank all the things I had been deprived of…resulting in putting all weight back on and more! I weigh 88 kgs and want to get to 65 kgs…..i am 5 ft 3 and 66 years old. I hope you manage this and keep it off..unlike my past! Good Luck! Maggie
