  • Hi All,
I am on my first fast day today, and I have managed it, just wondering if I eat less then the 500 cal will it effect in a bad way.
    I am 48, weight is 78kg, hight is 5ft2.
my birthday is in 5 weeks time and I would really like to get down to 75kgs in that time is this possible do you think?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum hill1
You need to find your TDEE here
    http://thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-calories-on-a-non-fast-day/

Then calculate your fast day calories as a quarter of you TDEE which I think is about 406 (I am not sure of your activity level so I put you in as sedentary 😛 )

I think you should have 500 cals on your fast day for the first couple of fasts so you and your body dont get too much of a shock and feel it could be difficult. After a couple of weeks fast days usually seem much easier, and you might even look forward to them 🙂 Some people only have water on their fast days, I have never done this so can’t comment.

    Hi and welcome:

Many people (including me) do not eat 500 calories on their diet days, and that is just fine.

As for your other question, you will have to decide. It appears your TDEE is about 1500 (maybe less). If you do not eat anything on your two diet days, you will cut about 3000 calories from your diet each week. Assuming you average eating your TDEE for your five non-diet days, that would lead to a weight loss of about 4.3 pounds in five weeks. To lose more (the 6.6 pounds you want to lose), you will have to eat less than 1500 on your non-diet days to make up the difference.

Of course, these are estimates, and if I wanted to make sure I lost the 2 kg in five weeks, I would eat less than I thought would do the trick – say nothing on diet days and only 1250 on non-diet days. But that is close to a starvation diet, and would not be ‘fun’. I would not recommend it, but anything is possible. It is totally up to you.

Unfortunately, weight loss is not as easy or as fast as many people think it is, or should be.

    Good Luck!

Alternatively, you could do 4:3 (three fast days per week) or ADF (alternating between fasting and feeding).
    Stef.

Thanks everyone, It was great that I got some answers so fast.
I did eat on my fast day but not the 500 I think it was around 400 I was just wondering if for this to work if it had to be spot on 500 cals.
What is TDEE I am quite happy to lose the weight slow if it means that it will stay off.
    again thanks for the replies

    Hi:

It is OK to eat less than 500 – many don’t eat anything on their diet days.

    This will explain TDEE: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/tdee-for-the-curious-or-why-dont-i-lose-weight-faster/

    Good Luck!
