  • Hey! I thought I’d introduce myself. ^___^

I’m a 20-year-old girl from southern Finland with around 35 lbs to lose. I first tried the 5:2 fasting diet when I saw the Eat, Fast and Live longer documentary on youtube last year. I tried it out for about three weeks, but stopped, because I just kept binging on sugary/salty junk food made me feel really ill on my non-fast days. I tried again last summer, but the same happened again! I was sabotaging myself…

Now I’m 2 weeks in on my third try at 5:2 fasting, and maybe the saying “Third time’s the charm” really is right. I started avoiding sugar and junk food around a week before I started fasting again, and made a promise to myself not to go to the shops when I’m fasting/hungry to avoid buying anything I wouldn’t normally be tempted to buy.

Now I can say I haven’t eaten any overly sugary stuff, crisps, soda, ice cream etc. during this whole time. Today is my 5th fast day and so far it’s going really well. I’ve noticed that the less sugar I eat, the less hungry I am! I also have a newfound love for tea (both non-caffeine and caffeinate), fruit and vegetables. Also I seem to enjoy food a lot more.

I’m planning on keeping this up until June at least. Maybe allow myself a treat here and there, but I’m not buying any “weekend treats” like I used to, to avoid from falling into that spiral again.

Hey, Husky! Yeah, we’re gonna totally do this. 😀

YEahh!! 🙂 It’s only my first time trying this and tomorrow is going to be my 3rd fast day! Fingers crossed it goes well.. Can i ask you where in Finland are you from ?:)

Ohh, keep it up! The first two weeks is always the hardest…

I’m from Kainuu area. Gonna move nearer to Oulu next autumn when I go to study there. C:

I’m staying positive , lost 1.5lbs in the first week, it may not be a huge amout but it’s way better than nothing!:) Staying postitive and motivated is the key to this,i think 🙂

That’s the way to go Husky!!!

you’ll get there, slowly but surely 🙂

Thanks for the support Angie090465!:) Last week when I started, all I wanted was to lose weight fast, fast, fast but now,a week later I’ve realized slowly but surely is the way to go.

    Hi and welcome:

You have made two great observations. First, you are really addicted to sugar and the only way to beat that is not to eat sugar. Second, the more sugar (carbs) you eat, the more hungry you are (so you eat more and get fatter). One way to beat that is to eat more fat/protein, and then you will find you are not very hungry most of the time.

Here are some tips for those just starting 5:2: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!

Just thought I’d revive this post and say ‘greetings from Finland’ too! 🙂

I’m British but living in Oulu and trying (usually hopelessly) to do the 5:2 with Mondays and Thursdays as my fast days. I know that the only way I am ever successful with diets (did WeightWatchers before) is to kind of have a routine and eat the same things. I too was going for too much sugar and, like you said, it didn’t satisfy hunger cravings so am trying to cut as much out as possible.

I also noticed on MFP yesterday when I tracked my foods for yesterday and planned for today was it warned me not to go over my daily fat/carb recommendation and I’ll be honest, I didn’t really bother with that before on doing 5:2. But now I shall make a conscious effort to do so and will, fingers crossed, see better results!
