  • Hi All,

I am a great follower of Dr. Michael as i have the book and watched the BBC show.

    I have a query.
I ant to lose 10kg of fat.
I started 4 weeks ago on a Monday and thursday fast.
I am male, 55 yo. active, reasonable diet prior to starting fast.Ex athlete, in reasonable condition.

    No medications, no medical problems.
    height 6’4″ (194cm)
    starting weight 116.8 kg
    and now I am 119.3kg.

Have followed instructions to the latter.

On off days I do not overeat…so what is going on/
    Am I doing something wrong?
    it is a little disheartening.

    can anyone help me/

    val

    Hi and welcome:

If you have done two diet days a week for four weeks and have not lost any weight, you are probably overeating on your non-diet days.

The only way to find out for sure is to count calories. Research shows most people that don’t count their calories underestimate their caloric intake by almost 50%.

Here is some information that might help: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/tdee-for-the-curious-or-why-dont-i-lose-weight-faster/

    Good Luck!

    Thanks.

But counting calories is something we all want to avoid….thus ……this program.

I also feel that this is a blanket statement…..”probably overeating on your non-diet days”.

As I said, I am in very good physical condition for my age, height and weight. I DO NOT OVEREAT.

The majority of people who lose weight on this program are those who consume all the bad stuff constantly, not like someone like me with a good muscle size frame and already decent diet.

    very disappointing indeed.

    I do not get it.

Why are we being careful with what we eat on non fast days, when we are told to eat anything we want and as much as we can handle without worry, guilt or calorie counting ( which has now popped out of the wood work).
No one in their right mind is going to gorge themselves senslessly to make up for lost eating days unless you are a glutton and weigh 400lbs and need 10,000 calories just to breathe. But I doubt they too would struggle with overeating……we are not all that STUPID.

Wasn’t there testing completed where people were eating over 110% of the daily calorie intake on the non fast days without gaining extra weight??

So what is the real story????? Another fad…..?????

    I AM CONFUSED.

Um, I don’t think it says anywhere that you can east as much as you can handle! Not everyone has a good grasp of that, which is why they’re here in the first place.

That said this has worked for many people, but like you my scales have not gone down from when I started 2 months ago. I’ve been careful to not over/undereat on non-fast days. Unlike your I do have a genetic endocrine disorder so I’m possibly one of the outliers of what’s possible (ie if someone can lose weight rapidly, there’s bound to be someone else at the other extreme of the bellcurve that’s barely or not moving).

Also the research on being able to eat as much as you like is that by Kristina Varady and it was for ADF or Alternate Day Fasting – which is much much harder for most people to have as a lifestyle. I’m trying to ADF and have a farewell lunch for a work team. I know I won’t be happy to sit in a restaurant and eat 400cals (saving 100 so I can eat something later or I can’t sleep).

    Thanks….keep at it.

i have also tried joe Cross’ juice diet and lost heaps in the past. But felt hungry all the time.
Wonder if that may be better for me?

@swaven perhaps the juice diet is better for you. I’m not willing to try it, not because I think it won’t work but because my metabolism doesn’t need to hit the famine mode – I had 5 months of VLCD waiting for my gallbladder to be removed (chronic inflammation not a stuck stone). I think that’s the base cause of my weight-gain since surgery and stubborn resistance to losing. I’ll see what a month of ADF does for me.
