I have completed my first fast day today surprisingly ok. Haven’t quite got to grips with things and forgot to do weighing and measuring thing. I’m looking forward to this lifestyle change and have been encouraged by reading the posts on here.

Hi Wendy177. Well done on completing your first day. I’ve been doing this since 1st January. New Year – New Start and all that! I fast on Mondays and Fridays which I find suit me best.So far I’ve lost half a stone and have been amazed! You’ll find lots of encouragement and support on here. Any questions don’t be afraid to post them there’ll always be someone to help you out.
Linda 🙂
Welcome to all of you newcomers! It does get easier over time! Drinking tons of water or tea really help to keep the hunger at bay.
You can change your fast days around, but try and make them non consecutive days. At the end of the day you will be creating a deficit of roughly 3000 cal a week and it doesn’t matter on which days.
Just make sure you always calculate your new TDEE when you have lost weight and try to stay under it on your feast days.
Best of luck
Stef.
I am sure it is absolutely fine if you can do it! Two days in a row are a bit hard for me, but what I can do easily is eating one day just above BMR, next day fast day, then feast day, again fast day…
I really like to shake things up by moving things around. One week I might be doing ADF, next week calorie counting (well I do this all the time as I log my food on myfitnesspal), then perhaps a day just juicing, it keeps things interessant, at least for me and it works!
Now I am about to start reading Michael’s new book “Fast Exercise”…
Best wishes
Stef.
Today was my 4th week and 7th fast day and definitely the hardest but decided to re-read 5:2 book and the various posts and now with only an hour to go I’m delighted I didn’t give in. Without doubt I feel better and roast dinner on Sunday tastes fantastic, guilt free and tomorrow I can eat whatever I fancy! I’ve 18llb to lose and so far so good. Thank you for all the posts , they are really positive and much needed by me today.
Hello, this is my first week and yesterday was my first fast day. I managed it ok which surprised me somewhat as I like my food!! This morning I have lost 2 lbs, a bit disappointed but a loss, now I am panicking as what to eat, feel that if I have a normal day then this loss will go back on. I must be a bit thick, having read the messages here I still don’t know what TDDE stands for and what I should be doing? I have 3 stone to lose so need lots of support as I have been on all the diets on this planet for 30 years and at 60 know it isn’t going to be easy. I am quite active but need to increase my exercise regime so have just purchased the accompanying book, looking forward to it popping through my letterbox. Good luck to everyone starting this year wishing you the losses you are looking for.
Hi diana – for God’s sake don’t be disappointed with 2lbs, that’s terrific! I’m 63 and January 2013 was 14st4lb – now 11st 1lb. I lost 9kg (sorry in Australia and converting) 21lbs in 12 weeks, then stabilised, lost more, got sick for a few weeeks etc. But 45lbs in a year is quite satisfying. The really good thing is that I really believe I will keep it off (together with the extra 6kg I’m aiming for slowly). When I started the gym 7 months ago could manage 10 minutes on the crosstrainer, now do 1 hour 5 days a week. Look at the longer term and keep at it. To calculate your TDEE go to the top of the site under “HOW?” – shows how to calculate TDEE and BMI. I found it helpful to do a really detailed food diary for the first 2 months (made me realise my real problem is wine every day, and as I am not giving up wine I just have to do better fasting and exercise).
Good luck, Vicki
Hi
Really like this diet, still reading book, filled in details and started!
I’m 57 male, 15st 2lb Type 2 Diabetic (4 yrs) with high cholesterol (intolerant to statins) so 1st fast day seemed no problem, eggs & smoked salmon for breakfast and evening skinned chicken and salad all within the 600 cals for men. Only noticeable noise was stomach grumble late afternoon which a cup of tea sorted.
Today was an ordinary eat day and my TDDE is for 2770cals (pretty active with 3 gym days per week) but sticking to 2400 for men, however, having low carbed for past year (was nearly 18st) I am now presented with an eat fest!
It appears I don’t seem to eat enough, probably why I have stayed around 15st for so long. And today had me eating fruit, nuts, a good dinner and a pudding!
I will lose weight but if the diet takes away the Diabetes and the medication then hey ho happy days!
Good luck all
Kema
Hi all… this is my second week on 5:2 and I’m finding it quite easy so far. Have already dropped 2.5 kgs and my waist has reduced by 2.5 inches. I fast on Tuesdays and Fridays. On fast days I have been keeping myself extra busy doing such things as window cleaning, reorganising cupboards, gardening, etc. It’s very encouraging to see results so quickly.
Hi everyone! Today is my first day…again! i tried this about a year ago, but wasn’t ready to stick with it. I’ve since moved back to the states and gained 8lbs with not walking everywhere!! So, i’m not happy to say the least and that is just more motivation to me! I’ve got the book so am rereading them to get myself sorted again. I look forward to this journey with you all!!
