  • Hi everyone,
    really looking forward to my first day of fasting tomorrow.
    Read the book + been reading peoples success stories so impressed. Really want to do it for health benefits too so fingers crossed hope its not too hard. Hope someone can give me some advice 🙂

    Hi glynnie61 and everyone. Maybe we can keep each other motivated? I’m also having my first day of fasting tomorrow after a period of absence. I lost about 2 stones last year but have put many pounds back on since Christmas. This way of life really works and I’m really missing all the health benefits including the spring in my step and energy. Going to spend time on this forum today reminding myself how well this can work. Have you worked out your TDEE for non-fast days. The button “How” at the top will show you how. I’d recommend drinking lots of water and if things get tough remind yourself it’s just for one day. We have different patterns of eating our 500 cals – you’ll find what suits you best. There’s not one size fits all (like real life lol)I don’t eat all day, just lots of water, then have all my 500 cals in one meal, around 6pm, but others have 2 or 3 smaller meals. See how you go. This is a really good forum with lots of advice and support and mainly no judgemental attitudes. a wealth of experience (much more than mine) to access if you need to. I wish you all the best Glynnie and look forward to hearing how you get on.I only weigh in once a week but it can also help to write down your measurements as another way to see progress if the scale isn’t moving.     Hi thank you Angie + funky appreciate the input,been good today know its only my 1st fasting day but don’t feel too bad drank lots of water had just under half of my 500 cals at work at 10am as I’m up at 4am and got a physical job, so going to wait till about 5.30 till I have the rest.I have worked my TDEE out for my non fast days did my measurements yesterday too will do my weigh in once a week too.Wishing you great success Funky you can do it, will keep you posted. Keep it up 🙂

    Thanks Angie & Glynnie. Had a good first fast day too. Have noted my weight – have put on 12lbs since just before Christmas – eek! It should come off fairly quickly though. I can put on weight quickly but lose it quickly again. Don’t recommend it though 🙂 Might do 4:3 this first week. Am still 20lbs less than I was last Summer. Hoping to finish the job in 2014 🙂 Success to us all 🙂

    You are the first person that I have come across on here that has put on a similar figure over Christmas. I put on 10 lb and then been ill for weeks, so now first fast day in probably 7 weeks.I have also thought about 4:3 this week.
    I am still 14lb lighter than this time last year.

    Yes Annette. I noticed that too. I allowed myself everything over the festive period after last weigh-in on 21st December, mostly rich, high fat stuff. was 12lb heavier on 27th January. It should come off quickish and I’m still proud of being 20lbs lighter since Summer but am a bit annoyed at myself for the yoyo’ing and what “could have been”. Hoping it was a seasonal thing but I’m aware of more emotional eating from me on this WOL. I usually think in terms of “non-fast” rather than feast but sometimes I am conscious of using food as a “treat” in response to an emotional stimulus. Although heavy when starting 5:2 it was more from eating the wrong things late at night. I do feel my relationship with food has changed – hopefully not permanent. Trying my best in 2014 to get that sense of control back because I do like this WOL and when it works, it works.Need to re-establish exercise too (bit of gym, lots of walking).

    Interesting. I thought the same. Disappointed on one hand, but still pleased with the overall weight loss.I am finally getting better and will have just 4 weeks training before a half marathon. Rather terrifying, but I will just do the best that I can without injury.

    So back to running this weekend, 10K in 2 weeks……..First fast in 7 weeks and it went fine. More nervous about tomorrow as I haven’t stuffed a roast down my throat the night before.

    Good luck with the training Annette – good to have such a positive focus in tandem with weightloss. Enjoy your running. I’d like to start short runs this year – even thinking about it is progress for me :)Glad your 1st fast went well. I’ve managed 2 this week and they went well although my head is still not 100% in the zone yet.
    Oh well, patience is a virtue. Glad we have this forum to “normalise” our experience and give us Hope for successful journeys. I wonder what an anthology of all our experiences would look like? Largely positive and inspirational I think.
    What are you nervous about for tomorrow Annette? Just browsing the forum has shown me how strong and wise/experienced you are at this WOL. Hope you’re not fazed by the lack of a roast dinner however lovely it sounds. Success all x

    Hi Funky, just done my 2nd fast day today feeling really positive,been exercising too got a exercise bike been on it twice got a sore backside ha ha.
    How are you doing glad your 2 went well, its great reading others posts on the forum so inspirational and helpful.
    Looking forward to getting on the scales on Saturday + taking my measurements, fingers crossed :-).

    Really pleased you’re doing so well even if you’re saddle-sore 🙂 I really like the exercise bike at the gym (if memory serves… need to get back soon) I do the HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) I warm up at a steady pace for 5 mins then go all out for a minute really fast, then really slowly for 1 minute. Repeat at least 5 times then cool down for a couple of minutes. I was doing that for about a month and really noticed an improvement in my stamina. (See Fast Exercise by Michael Mosley for more info/the science stuff)
    Had a family meal yesterday evening and was mindful of what I ate but enjoyed the meal. Doing my 3rd fast day today and planning on getting out for a decent walk, weather permitting. I’m weighing in on Saturday too so will post. Hope you have a good day and “see you” tomorrow. Best xxx

    Hi Funky, glad you enjoyed your family meal. How did your 3rd fast go?
    Well I’m really pleased got on the scales + lost 5 pounds 🙂 so happy with 5.2 lost my 1st stone now, but this is my first weigh in on 5.2. Really feeling positive good feeling. I’ve been doing the HIT trying too low, yes looked at fast exercising it makes sense.
    Hope your weigh in is good looking forward to your post.
    Going out celebrating my hubbys birthday with friends so will try to be good!!

    My 3rd fast went really well thanks and I’m glad to say that I’ve lost 5lbs too 🙂
    Off to meet my sister for coffee and a relaxing weekend planned.

    Have a great time. It’s good to know that with this WOL we don’t have to sit in a corner with a lettuce leaf and a glass of water when we are at celebations, saying no to everything.For me it’s all about balance. I really enjoyed myself on Thursday night without going mad and overeating. Mindful is good. Fasted yesterday ans still lost a good amount of weight. This is do-able for me. We just need to find what works for us.

    Yes its brill to be in control + a little bit of what you fancy doesn’t hurt!!! Yes its all about balance. I really believe this is do able for me think my hubby is going to start soon then it will be our way of life. Feels so good

    I had a good blether with my sister and decided to go for a walk when I left her. 2 hours later I got home. Can really feel it as it is the 1st real exercise since Christmas but my head feels clearer and I’ve found some energy. Household chores out the way so my time is my own 🙂

    Your posts are so positive and it’s really good to come on and “speak” with you. Thanks for that. Long may we all continue on our journeys and find success from this way of Life, however we define success 🙂

    Had a good time on Saturday 1st drink after doing dry January,let my hair down a bit but back on track Sunday + didn’t feel bad!!!!!

    Sounding good Glynnie 🙂 Feels good to be able just to slot back into the plan after celebrations without allowing things to be sabotaged and putting off restarting 🙂 I read somewhere that “Motivation gets you started but habit keeps you going”. Makes sense to me.

    I had a nice relaxing weekend. Hospital appointment today and have changed planned fast today until tomorrow (in need of comforting food today). Had another decent walk today. Had worn out my last pair of trainers (prob due to so much walking lol). New trainers are very light and feel like slippers!Plan to step up the walking this week and restart gym next week. Making new habits!

    Am planning 4:3 again this week in bid to shift the extra festive pounds. I’ll be happier when I get back to my pre-Christmas weight.

    What are your plans for this week? How do you spread your calories on fast days?

    Hi Funky, how you doing this week? Hope your hospital appointment went well? Hows the walking been?
    Im doing my second fast tomorrow i have 205 cals at 10am then my rest at 5pm, then won’t eat till 10am next day. How do you spread yours? Hoping to loose 3lb this week but any will be a blessing!!!!Getting used to the exercise bike now did just over 4 miles today trying to increase bit by bit, backside getting better hee hee. Do 20 minutes of exercises before the bike too especially for my bingo wings.
    Let me know how your 4.3 goes this week.

    Hospital appointment went well thanks. Have been fasting yesterday (Tues) and today and I’m starting to feel that I’m getting my mojo back with this – Yay!!!
    Have managed out for walks too, despite uncertain weather. Not letting it hold me back – that’s what the hood on my jacket is for 🙂 Walked through the park to the beach today. Fed the ducks and swans en-route (Fighting off the seagulls – they’re such bullies)Love the beach – the stiff breeze really blows the cobwebs away.

    Will try 4:3 this week, probably fast on Friday before next weighin on Saturday.

    You’re doing great with your fasting and exercise – hope you get a great result on Saturday. I leave all my 500 calories til around 6pm. I get too hungry if I split them up over the whole day. We only find out these things by experience.

    Bet it’s fab living so close to beach yeah seagulls are bully’s lol. Is it hard doing 4.3? Don’t feel like I’ve lost this week but will see what the scales say Saturday morning!!!

    My husband fasted today but left all his 600 cals till 5.30pm said he felt fine, he’s drinking green tea. I’ve tried it but don’t like it hate tea + can taste it YAK!!!!! Keep to my water.

    How are things going? Good I hope.Did you have your weigh-in on Saturday?

    Things are going well this end. 4:3 happened as planned and was able to get out for a decent walk nearly every day. Back in the groove I think 🙂 Lost 5lbs again this week which is really helping to reduce the 12lbs I put on over the festives and most of January. Just 2lbs away from my pre-Christmas weight, which is my first mini-goal since restarting this. Am sure weight loss will slow down to a more reasonable weekly amount. Planning to start gym again – hopefully go on my fast days starting tomorrow.

    Did my weigh in yesterday lost 1lb was a little disappointed but still thinking positive though I was really tired had a hard week at work my job is quite physical + done a lot of exercising too. But hey ho a lb is good. My hubby lost 2lb pleased for him. Fell up the stairs this morning + hurt my wrist I’m a silly old bird ha ha.

    Thanks Glynnie, am really chuffed. I know you’re a bit disappointed but 1lb is still good. Think it’s the average amount we’re told we might lose on this WOE. My son has been losing 1lb every week steadily and keeping it off. Well done hubby too 🙂

    Know what you mean about the stairs. I’ve fallen up the stairs a few times and always feel really daft. We don’t travel so far thankfully 🙂 Hope your wrist gets better soon and you get pampered for a bit. Take care.

    Hi Funky, been off work all week with my wrist 🙁 went in Monday morning but no good. Having all week off to rest it.

    Well done to your son :-), how’s your week going? Thought I would struggle with my fast days being at home but did it Monday + doing it today, been hard today had a lot of hunger pangs but black coffee helped, also felt a bit light headed a few times is this the norm?

    Have you started the gym yet? Not done any exercise bike this week going to try tomorrow. Take care.

    Sorry to hear you’re off work Glynnie but well done for keeping up your fasting days. I’ve never been light headed before but some of our fast friends have. I just can’t remember the outcome, sorry. You could use the search facility and key in “light headed”? Are you drinking enough water?

    On my 2nd fast day today and I got back to the gym today so really chuffed. Can you see my halo from there lol? Watch your wrist if you’re getting on the bike.

    My son is doing great. At the gym every other day and is really toning up. He’s looking really good (even if I’m biased lol)

    Not been here as had a busy week back at work wrist a lot better, but not felt too good Tue night so glad it was my fast day Weds as didn’t feel like eating just had soup + bit of bread at tea time. Not been sleeping well either. God what do I sound like ha ha.

    Sorry you’ve not felt too good. Did you weigh-in today?

    My week started off really well, fasted Mon & Tue, went to gym both days and did loads of walking. Got bad news on Wednesday which took the legs from under me and have not had the energy or inclination since then to be mindful of what I’m eating. Didn’t weigh myself today. Aiming to look after myself this weekend and try to get back on track next week again.

    Might not post much but please know that I really appreciate all your positivity and I know I’ll get there. Journey might just take a bit longer lol :)Hope you have a grand weekend and that your health and sleeping improve next week. I read on here that someone had found herbal Valerian helpful for sleep. try a search?

    Hi Funky, not been on for awhile still going strong stayed same 2 weeks ago + last week lost 1 lb happy with it as not been exercising. Doing 3.4 this week never done it before will be my 3rd fast tomorrow so will see done a tiny bit of exercising not much 🙁 going to do some tomorrow :-).

    Good to hear from you Glynnie. You’re doing great considering you’ve been injured and not able to exercise so well. How is you wrist now? Well done for keeping at it. 🙂

    Am still struggling somewhat. Difficulties ongoing but starting to pick up mood. Am going to re-read the Fast Diet book and this forum over the next few days and do some food shopping at the weekend. Plan to start fasting from Monday. Will take a deep breath and step on the scales then. Will try to get to the gym tomorrow. Need to take control back (difficulties could last for some time and don’t want to slip back further – these benefits and weightloss have been hard won!)

    Here for you Funky. Glad you are picking up a bit, keep thinking positive, one step back two steps forward. You will do it when you are ready as you say you have worked hard to achieve your fantastic weight loss:-). Good idea to re-read the Fast Diet book + forum the update is great.

    My wrist is good now thanks, done my 3 fasts this week see what the scales say tomorrow. Such a fab feeling all my clothes too big:-), need to buy new ones now though. My hubby told me I had a baggy butt last weekend lol, nice of him. That was my jeans!!

    Hey Glynnie, I’m back 🙂

    Things have been tough this end and have put on 11lbs since the middle of February – eek! Am same weight as I was after restarting Fast Diet at the start of 2014 – enough time has stood still weightwise! I’m hopefully getting back on track with Day 1 fast today. Needs must! So many unplanned/unwanted changes here that I need to feel there is at least something I can control/influence/positively focus on which will increase my wellbeing/sense of value.Have done it before and will do it again 🙂

    You’ve not posted for a couple of weeks but I’m hoping Life is treating you well. 🙂
    Weighed myself this morning and have lost 4lbs – just 7 to go to get back to my lowest weight in 8 years – yay! 🙂 Difficult stuff still ongoing but focusing on 5:2 is definitely helping.

    A bit breezy here but clear and sunny. Meeting my sister in town for coffee then plan to walk home (45 mins to an hour)

    Hi Funky, so glad you are back. Hope all is well with you & glad you are feeling positive :-).

    Not been on for a while as my mum been ill, and unfortunately she died on Tuesday bless her. Feel like I’ve been on a rollercoaster at the moment feel numb. Mum had dementia she had been in a nursing home for nearly 4 years + for the last 18 month’s she didn’t know us, but it doesn’t make it any easier. Sorry for going on but writing down helps.

    Well still doing 5.2 nearly lost 2 stones now not all with 5.2 my husband as done amazing don’t think he needs to loose any more just maintain but he wants to loose a couple more lbs.

    So sorry to hear about your Mum Glynnie. I lost my Mum to dementia in 2002 and I know how awful that was. It’s a very cruel disease which robs you of your loved one twice. Take very good care of yourself. Well done on your weightloss. Sending big hugs xxxxxxxxxxxx
