  • Hi All, I have just started and on my first week and have started with the ADF approach as a bit of a kick start and then plan to drop it back to the 5:2. I just want to make sure that I’ve got my head around the fasting (500cal) part of it. For instance, I started this week and so ate normally Monday, had tea about 6:30 / 7pm and a brew about 9pm then bed. Tuesday was to be my Fasting day so had porridge (110cals) at 7:30am again at 12:30pm and again at 6:30pm, with brews (no sugar & just skimmed milk) and fruit tea during the day and Wednesday had breakfast at 7:30am and ate normally for that day and then repeated it again for Thursday. I know its only my first week but seem to be able to tell my empty tummy that it will get a litle bit of attention in a little while rather that try and go all day on just fluid – plus it fits in better with work. I have heard it takes a couple of weeks for your body to get into the swing of it but just wanted to make sure I’ve understood the concept of the limited calories for a limited time.

Hearing your thoughts would be great.

    Thanks for reading!
    NettieM

hi to you both, Jimbo148 and NettieM

welcome to 5.2, sounds like you got the hang of it lol and Nettie you are right it will take your body a few good weeks to adapt to the change so be patient!!

    happy fasting 🙂

    Hi to you too Angie090465!

Phew and thanks for the confirmation. I have also found that planning my meals for the non-fasting day helps me keeps my grumbling tummy at bay!!

Happy fasting to you as well!!

Hi NettieM,No iam not doing the Hit exercise, but the job that i do is enough to keep me going plus looking after a 5 and 2 year old helps!!! lol

Hi jimbo148, sounds like you’ve got your very own version of 5:2 exercise programme! lol I’ve just got over a cold and so tried my first 10min session of HIT today and have to say I was impressed and surprised of the effect of it, cant wait to give it another go (I think)

Well done –good start. I am a fan of HIT especially the time factor.
Nettie are you only eat porridge on fast days? Just wonder if you have Mimi’s recipe book ?
    all the best

A couple of things NettieM. 500 calories is just a kind of rule-of -thumb. You should endeavor to keep the number under 1/4 what it would take for you to maintain your weight exactly. 500 may be too much if you’re small or have a low metabolism, and overly restrictive if you’re very large. So even though I’m male, I had to start at 500 and since I’ve lost weight (~60lbs) I’ve had to reduce the number to less than 400. Another thing is that skim milk has quite a few calories from lactose and protein, and here in the US, may also contain up to .5% butterfat. So I’d advise measuring a day’s worth of skim milk in advance in order to be sure you’re not overdoing. Good luck!

Happy to read all of these affirming and supportive messages. I started on Monday with a M and Th fast days. Weighed myself this morning and have lost 3 lbs. Once I realized that fasting is not pure hell, then I was okay. Still having some sweets on feed days with decent food choices. I can see how I can accelerate the weight loss if I show more self-control on feed days. Totally see now this can be a way of life.

    Hi double happy,

I started off just sticking to porridge on my fast days, for the first week I found it kept the rumbles away and it fitted in better with work, but now I’m getting the hang of it (and tummy is coming on side too)I do have a ‘meal’ in the evening. Thanks

well what can i say!!!!!! i started my third week on monday 3rd Feb and weighed myself this morning and i have lost a stone!!!!!!!!! on my fast day’s all i have is water 2 big mugs of coffee and a bovril! i cant believe i have lost this much weight in 3 weeks! long may it continue. Many thanks to the 5-2 diet!

Well done, incredible result. What’s your target weight loss ?
