  • I have done 5:2 earlier this year then fell off the wagon. I have now been following it for 10 days and have lost 3 kgs so far. I am 34 years, 5.4, and currently way 77 kgs. My goal weight is 65 kgs. I am really enjoying being on this diet. Its great to see the kilos fall off even if its only water weight at the moment. I am vegetarian and on my fast days I have coffee with milk and 1/2 tsp sugar and then have an early dinner which is about 300 calories. What I like about fast days is that they have had a great positive influence on my non fast days. I eat more healthy foods, my cravings and addictions have done down drastically. In fact I have a reduced appetite. I can see myself doing this in the long run. Would be great if someone would like to join me in this weight loss journey. I find it motivating to have a weight loss buddy!
    Cheers
    Sandy

Hi there, I will join you. I am on my third fast day, started last week. I tried this diet years ago but didn’t really commit the way I have now.

I don’t know my current weight but it’s around 75kg I think and I want to get down to 62kg.

Today I will be buying weighing scales for possibly the first time in my life.

I am finding each fast day gets a bit easier. Yesterday I had two 60 calorie slices of toast with a scrape of low fat butter during the day (around 1pm and 5pm) and vegetable soup for dinner (was working so was home late).

I also had two cups of coffee with a splash of semi-skimned milk.

This morning I feel good. I’m hungry but not overly so. Given yesterday I am not going to overeat today and ruin my good work 🙂 porridge with a banana for bfast 🙂

I think when I start seeing results my motivation for this eating plan will grow. I have a holiday to Portugal in September and am determined to be trimmed down by then 🙂

I have read so many positive things about 5 2, I really want to prove that I too can be a success story.

    Bring it on!!!!!

    Hi Sunny

Thanks a lot for your prompt response. It will be great to have company. I know this will work we just have to be patient and consistent. And somedays even though the scales dont move, I can feel a difference in the way my clothes fit, so I know its making a difference. I am having an NFD today. So far so good. Had a coffee, a small bowl of watermelon and a mango for breakfast. And also a Stroopwaffle 🙂
Will have some chickpeas with 2 pieces of brown bread for lunch. Then some chickpeas and a salad for dinner.
Tomorrow will be another fast day and I am looking forward to it.
Good luck with your NFD today. Will write again tomorrow.

Hi, I got my scales and was happy that I weighed less than I thought. I was 71.6 kgs. I have basically a stone to lose so am prepared to do what it takes 🙂 my next fast day will be Friday. I will look forward to what the scales show next week.

    Hi Sunny,

71.6kgs sounds great 🙂 Wish I was there too… I have an FD today, had a cup of coffee and a bowl of papaya for bfast. Will have 2 glasses of buttermilk for lunch, then a bowl of vegetables for dinner. I am now at 76.6kgs. Really looking forward to being below 75 asap. Have a nice day.

Hiya, today is on a NFD, but I ate very little as I was having a takeaway tonight as a friend is over. Thai green chicken curry and peanut M&Ms 🙂

I found a great idea for low calorie soup…. A knoor chicken stock cube, the gelatin like cubes. They are less than 15 calories and you can add as much hot water as you like.

I think they are going to be my saving grace on fast days.

    Will weigh myself on Sunday!!

Hope you are doing well! You will below 75kg in no time!!

Hi, your low calorie soup sounds great :)I love Thai food. I have an NFD today. Yesterday was an FD and I gained 100gms ;)But I am not worried, I feel so much better, my clothes are much looser. I feel that I should stop weighing myself everyday but I cant help it. And to be honest I am not really affected by the numbers anymore. These FD’s make me so appreciative of my NFD’s. I look forward to my meals, my portion sizes have gone down drastically. I had a couple of treats this morning, but I just took a couple of small bites and was content and also didn’t feel guilty about it. I have also started walking for an hour every morning. So all in all its going well. I have significantly cut down on carbs, I used to love eating rice but haven’t had it in a while and don’t particularly miss it. I also don’t snack in between meals and I find that it helps to control the hunger dragon. No more sugar and junk food cravings.
I will be going for dinner to a friends place tomorrow, so plan to be extra careful with my meals tomorrow. I also plan to do an additional FD on Sunday.
I hope you have a good FD today.

Hi there, well, my NFD ended up turning into a bit of a pig out 🙁 my friend is going on holiday for a month so it ended up being a late night snacking.

I woke up feeling disappointed but it is a FD today and am happy to say it is almost 8pm and I am at 450 calories.

This is my fourth FD and by far the easiest. I will eat lightly again tomorrow to make up for my pig-out.

My portion sizes have also reduced, which is great. I’m so much more conscious of what I eat now. If I want a big dinner, I have a light lunch. I never did that before.

My partner says he can see I have lost weight, so I know this is working. I’m also saving money on food!!

The stock pot soup is great for making you feel like you have ate a meal (as it’s salty) and a ridiculously low calorie count.

Planning on having an early night so temptation doesn’t creep in.

Well done on the walking. I walk an hour a day too 🙂

    Chat tomorrow 😀

Hi I hope you are having a good day. I had an NFD yesterday. It was okay, had a couple of sweet treats but didn’t go overboard. Went to dinner to a friends. It was simple home cooked food, I kept the portion size small and enjoyed the meal.
I am having an FD today, a strange one at that, I haven’t felt hungry at all, but I have been restless, I had a couple of cups of coffee, 2 glasses of buttermilk for lunch. Ate about 5-6 peanuts. Plan to have some yogurt and vegetables for dinner.
I have decided not to weigh myself till next Sunday.
I am glad that you didn’t let snacking with your friend upset you and that you had a good FD.
It must have been great to hear from your partner that you have lost weight:)
Will be going for a hike tomorrow morning. When is your next FD. Mine is on Tuesday.
    Have a nice day:)

    Hi Rahul

Great to hear you are going so well. I’m doing ok. I had planned a steak dinner last night with all the trimmings so made sure to limit my calories before it. I probably had a bit much and then I found some Doritos left over from when my friend visited 🙁 I shouldn’t have ate them but I did.

I have made a deal with my partner that we won’t bring junk into the house so that will solve that problem. I haven’t bought any junk food since I started the 5 2 with the exception of my friend’s visit. I clearly still have a problem with willpower.

I just weighed myself and am 71 kg. I have lost .6kg in 6 days. Not sure if that is much really, but the numbers are going down.

Tuesday is my fast day, though I may limit what I eat today to make up for last night.

I feel weight loss around my stomach and waist. I am convinced 5 2 works and am reminding myself that in this my first week, I am just needing to tweak things a bit.

Wishing you a great trek. Can I ask where you are? I’m in Ireland 😉

    Hi

I’m starting today FD. I’m doing it the wrong way round 🙂 I’ve only just ordered the book so haven’t read it yet. I have only got 8 weeks until my holiday and need to lose 5.2kg so didn’t want to wait until it arrives. I sort of read about the idea and the fast days. I’ve planned today by slitting my 500 calories into 3 small meals. doing fine so far.
I was 75.2 kg this morning, I’m 5ft 5. my ideal target is 65kg, but need to get down to 70kg by my holiday.
    hope you are doing ok?

Hi. I will do it along side you. Like you I did the 5:2 diet before, and then stopped. Anyway, I’ve a new partner and the weight has gone on again, so it’s back on the 5:2 for me.
I am also vegetarian. I have a fussy 14 year old carnivore who lives with us half of the time, and my partner is also a meat eater.
I’ve decided to make my fast days when my boy is with us so they can eat meat together, and I can eat my stuff, and Wednesday will be my first day, followed by Friday.
Currently planning what I need to eat on Wednesday!.

    Hi there and welcome 🙂

Just finished a fast day 🙂 had two coffees with a splash of low-fat milk in eacb, a slimbo (100 calories) with a scrape of butter and chicken & veg soup (240 calories).

I also walked for about an hour. Each fast day gets easier. I can feel my clothes getting looser so looking forward to that being reflected on the scales. I have about 10kg to lose.

I just need to be more careful on non FDs. Next fast day is Friday 🙂

All the best everyone. We can do this 🙂

Hi Maggie & M4rtha, Wecome 🙂 This plan is a keeper. Its made such a difference to my relationship with food. Good luck with your 5:2 journey.
@sunny good to see your post. Its great isn’t it when our clothes feel looser and fit better. That is even better proof than the number on the scales. And its a good idea to stop keeping junk around the house, we cant eat what is not there. Have you heard of Linda Spangle, I had read a book by her called ‘Life is hard, food is easy’ Its a fantastic book and really helps us understand our relationship with food. Since I have started the FD’s I find my NFD’s to be easier too. My hunger pangs have gone down significantly on all days. My portion size is much smaller with all my meals. I avoid snacking as much as possible thats where the most damage happens i think. I have eaten out a couple of times and indulged in some sweet treats but have thankfully been able to stop after the first 2 bites. I usually have a very light dinner, some vegetables or lentils. I drink atleast 3 lts of water. I have not been able to walk due to the heavy rains, but hopefully will be able to get back to that soon.Even I need to lose 10kgs to get to a healthy BMI. And this time I hope to reach 60kgs which I havent been for almost 20 years I think. And looking at so many peoples experiences in this forum, its very much possible.
I live in India by the way. Good luck with your FD today.

    Hi all,

I was on a NFD today and treated myself to a chicken wrap and a small portion of fries. I skipped breakfast as I wanted a good lunch. I’ve a light dinner planned of prawns in a tomato and chilli sauce. Really looking forward to it.

No snacks at all and won’t be buying any either. The temptation is still too much in these early days.

I am now down 1.2kg. I weighed myself first thing this morning as I had a fast day yesterday and it went well.

60kg is my ultimate aim and I believe with this way if eating I will be able to do it. I walked for 50mins too, so it all helps.

Hope all are doing ok 🙂

Hi all I’ve done 5 2 in the past and stoped put on loads of weight got about 3 stone to loose can i join you all with this journey. X

Well I’ve weighed myself, and reckon I have about 20lbs to shift, 4 inches off the waist.
I’m all geared up for a FD tomorrow, skipping breakfast, will drink water and tea (milk 18). Making broccoli soup for lunch (100), omelette and salad for dinner (150), snack of ryvita and dip (100), Apple (50), and that leaves 82 for last minute hunger pangs before bed. That’s the plan.

Morning. Day 1 FD yesterday was great! Pretty much stuck to the plan, instead of the Apple I had 2 “twists” as someone bought cakes and thankfully low calorie twists into work. The mushroom omelette and green beans was really tasty.
    NFD today, FD tomorrow.
OH impressed by my ability to do this, he is on board weighing the correct amounts out!
If my waist measurement should be half my height I’ve got 6 inches to lose, which is a little daunting.
    One day at a time.

Morning. My 2nd FD today. Due to having my evening hijacked last night I have just made broccoli soup again for lunch, and plan on having ryvita and babaganoush for a snack if needed. Dinner tonight is spinach pilaff, which will be about 240 cals, leaving me 60 cals.
We are going out for a meal on Sunday so will have to be careful I don’t undo my hard work.

    Hi M4rtha,
The earlier post I wrote got deleted. I think you are doing really well.
Its nice that your OH is being so supportive. I must admit I dont weigh anything I eat. Neither do I count calories. I stay away from processed foods, sweets and snacking in between meals. I no longer feel the need to snack and that has helped a lot as its with snacks I often went overboard. I have also significantly minimized white rice which I love.
I have lost 5kgs till date on this diet:) I finally gave in to temptation and weighed myself this morning. I plan to eat out too on Sunday and so plan to have a FD tomorrow. Its okay to have the occasional treat and not beat ourselves about it. Your menu on your FD sounds delicious.
@sunny how are you doing? Havent heard from you in a while.

    Hi all,

Glad to read all doing well. I’ve been a bit busy with work but am doing well. Had a fast day yesterday and got to approximately 600 calories. It was a long day and I was running around a lot so am not bothered I went slightly over.

I am now sticking to 1800 calories on non fast days, which is easy as my breakfast is always porridge and a banana and I don’t have that till around 10.30am.

I will weigh myself after my next fast day on Monday and hope to be under 11 stone. I am hovering just above it. Goal is 10 stone-ish.

Have noticed my tummy is flatter and clothes fitting better. I’m going to try and not get too hung up on the numbers on the scales though.

Looking forward to my banana and porridge in a few hours….

    Good luck all x

    Hi Everyone.
I’ve been doing it for just under 2 weeks now.
I can lose weight after a FD – about 2 lbs, but have discovered I need to be very careful for it not to go back on the day after.
In fact we were away for the weekend and whilst I was careful, I was unable to weight food and more has crept back on. Very annoying. So I’m currently down about 3 lbs.
I’m finding the FD easy – amazing really as when I did it a few years ago I could never stick to 500 calories.
How is everyone else finding it?
    M4rtha.

@m4rtha, good to hear from you. I am doing well. I have lost 6.5kgs since I started the diet a month ago, and I am very happy. As I have said earlier dont let the number on the scales bother you. Sometimes I dont loose after a FD but I almost always loose after an NFD. Did a back to back FD last week for the first time and found it doable. So now I fast thrice a week on Monday, Thursday and Friday. Weekends are a little relaxed. I dont weigh my food, just very careful with my carb intake, avoid junk food and sugar. I like the fact that I feel so much lighter, my clothes fit better. I no longer feel stuffed and full and no more cravings.
    Have a fab week everyone.
@sunny, how are you doing? Long time no news

    Hello Everyone!

I am just starting and today is my first FD. I am excited to begin and enjoyed reading all the posts from people who are a month or so ahead of me.
Right now, I have an iced coffee with 2 teaspoons of fat free half and half and an apple with 1/2 oz of peanut butter. I’m pretty confident that this will go well – while I’m at work; am a bit worried about my willpower when I get home. I planned on vegetable soup and a smoothie just before bed made from frozen strawberries and fat free yogurt.
Would love to hear what you all eat on your fast day? I am very unimaginative!!
    thanks
    Keecon

    Hi, and welcome Keecon.
I had a fast day on Monday and so far I’m being fairly unimaginative. I skip breakfast, survive on tea and water till lunch time. A broccoli soup ( broccoli water seasoning) is very tasty, and about 70 cals. Or I make a salad. (about 100 cals if I incorporate pulses for protein)
The 2 fast day evening meals I have had are mushroom omelette ( 1 egg and 1 white) or aubergine in seasoned passata with a bit of parmesan, and other veg or salad, That’s about 150 cals. That leaves about 250 cals, 30 for milk in tea, 70 for a snack and 100 for a bit of cereal before bed. I can’t go to bed hungry!
I have 2 vegetarian 5 2 cookery books so need to broaden my meal choice. I try to have something the rest of my family can have too, though they bill it out.

    I’m in the U.K.

    Hi M4rtha

i see the posted time and believe me to be in the minority. I live in the states on the east coast it is about half ten am here
Finished my fast day yesterday and it went pretty well. I stayed just under 500 cals and because of various mishaps, I ended up walking over 2 miles (which wasn’t planned!)
Today I am very aware of what I am choosing to eat and if I can stay away from muffins, bread, and potatoes I’ll be happy. Tall order for an Irish girl!
Have a good rest of your day

Hello everyone i started 4:3 with Sat been my first fast day and i had another fast day on yesterday,i do 600 on my fast days even though i am a female 47 years old. So i awoke this morining feeling lighter and differnt. I decided to get on the scale and i lost 3 pounds in just 4 days.I am now 221 pounds i can see my self getting out of the 200’s. On my eating days i eat 1,600 cals.I would like suggestions and comments on how to keep this going oh and i drink a gallon of water and i lift weights and do 30 mins of cardio on my eating days.

I forgot to tell everyone the 3 pound lost put me at a over all lost since i started Jan 23rd this year 50 pounds. I feel so much better. 66 more pounds to go i can see the light

Hey I am gonna join you Sandy! I’m a vegetarian too, but as I have IBS I have to avoid wheat- so that means no pasta and bread foods. I do have spelt bread or Polish Rye bread sometimes, but tend to stick to Rice cakes and Oat crackers with peanut butter or hummus on them. Have you any tips for veggie meals on the fast days? I love raw veg or steamed veg with hummus so was wondering if that would be about 500 calories for the fast days as I could do that between noon- 1 pm each day and then have a small glass of smoothie at 5pm or a banana- that would do me, like all those.I can manage without breakfast ( just a cup of black decaff coffee with no sugar ( hate sugar) and water. It’s what I often do anyway.

@amy Welcome :)Your meals on FD’s sounds good. I eat veggies too and often have a lentil soup in the evening. They are very easy to make and very filling. Just google some Indian Dal recipes. I also drink a couple of glasses of buttermilk during lunch and have some salad. I have lost 8 kgs on this diet and I am really happy with how I feel. As of now I am doing 1 FD on Monday and 2 back to back FD’s on Thursday & Friday.Indulged a bit on the weekend and the numbers on the scales have gone up. But I know the FD’s this week will fix it. My final goal is to reach 60kgs. Currently I am 72kgs.
    Have a FAB week everyone:)

Hi, I would like to join you too. I am restarting 5:2 today following Dr. Mosley’s updated guidelines, which will make it so much easier to stick to. My husband is doing this along with me, which will also make it easier.

I’m pretty much vegan and he’s a carnivore. The important thing is that we are doing this!
