  • My boyfriend and I are doing our very first fast today. I’m already jealous of his extra 100 calories ;p I’m twitching and thinking about the piece of chocolate cake my nan has left for me (it will be destroyed tomorrow), but I have two stone to lose and I just keep telling myself that tomorrow will be good. I have an essay to write for uni today so hopefully that will distract me. I’ve never posted in a forum before and it’s great to see so many people supporting each other!

    Hi Carina26,

I just did a great long reply and managed to delete before I posted – doh!! Shorter version this time.

Like you, I am starting today and am delighted to find a support network online. After inputting my data I am horrified to see my BMI measurement, so my focus is on the health benefits with weight loss a very welcome bonus – one stone to lose – initially.

All the best to you and your boyfriend and I look forward to sharing our journeys.

One question I have for anyone reading this – do you weight fruit like bananas, oranges, tangerines, pineapple etc. with or without skin?

    Hi Strawberries!

Yeah, my BMI isn’t great. I lost two and half stone before last year and then put a stone and a half back on :/ so now I’m determined to stop my weight gain in its tracks and hopefully shift this weight at last!

Thank you very much! Same to you! I get the feeling this forum is going to be the thing I need to keep me going!

In answer to your question, I have an app that tells me the calories of a whole piece of fruit, but if it’s something I’m only having part of, like pineapple, I just weight what I’m actually eating. 🙂

    Hi Carina,

Woohoo! I know it’s only water but I don’t care – losing 2.6lbs of anything after my first day yesterday is brilliant and I had the best night’s sleep in ages.

I bought a spiraliser at the end of May last year and it eventually came out of its box last night. I couldn’t believe how much volume of carrot and courgette appeared from two portions of 120g in total. I steamed it with spinach and broccoli along with a steamed fillet of salmon – sprinkled with lemon juice and black pepper. It was delicious and very filling. I also had strawberries and fat free yogurt. Drank copious amounts of herbal tea throughout the day – lemon & ginger is my favourite – and on the whole feel very positive. This is definitely something I can build into my week – probably Monday and Thursday from next week but this week I’m going to do it again tomorrow. I like the fact that it’s flexible to fit in with my weekly schedule so I can change days if I have something on – like lunch a week on Monday with friends, so I’ll do it Tuesday instead.

How did you both do yesterday? Thanks for the answer re the fruit.

    Hi Strawberries!
That’s great!! It feels so good to see the numbers drop! I’m restricting myself to one weigh-in per week, otherwise I’ll get obsessed lol. I slept really well too, though a big part of that was wanting to bring breakfast on faster!
I did have a pear and yoghurt for breakfast yesterday, I get really grumpy if I don’t eat anything! My dinner was vegetable fingers, broccoli and cous cous (cous cous is so low calorie!!). Peppermint tea for me!! It really helped to have a tasty drink!

Yeah, the flexibility is important to me too, especially with uni and work!

We did pretty well thanks,I came in at 495 calories. My boyfriend went over by a tiny bit of cereal but he has a physical job and was suffering a little so I’m really proud of how well he did on the first day!

    Good morning!

Well day two completed yesterday and another 1.6lbs off. I am delighted!

Food yesterday comprised a protein bar which I ate an hour or so prior to going to my cardio class and one cup of tea with dash or milk when I returned – otherwise black coffee and herbal tea throughout the day. We then went to collect a car so didn’t eat until late, but I found that the exercise and cup of tea had suppressed my appetite anyway. So by the time I cooked our chicken tikka (he had chips with his) and a huge plate of mixed salad with a little olive oil & balsamic dressing, it was around 9pm. I was surprised how much salad I got for only 51 calories and how filling it was. I made the effort to make the salad varied and attractive to look at – which in turn made it much easier to consume.

Next week my fast days are Monday and Thursday and I’m going to get my menu plan sorted in advance. Having read through the 5:2 Cookbook I can see lots of ideas that will work well.

Have a good weekend and I look forward to hearing your progress next week.
