  • Hi All

I’m about 30kg overweight (sorry, not sure what that is in pounds) and I really need to drop weight for my health…I’m worried that I will fail this diet, or way of life, before I even begin. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for newbies who are just starting out?

    Hi sivvy and welcome:

Read the ‘Warnings’ link first. The thread contains all of the information you need to be successful with 5:2: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

Ask any questions when they come up. If you think you will be successful with 5:2, you will be. It is up to you.

    Good Luck!

This way of life can be very flexible so when there are days I plan to fast but something comes up – I don’t look at it as a failure, I’ll just fast the next day instead. I know when I first started I liked to eat several small meals (approx 100 calories each) on fast days but now I have my coffee with cream & coconut oil (mixed in a blender) throughout the morning and just eat supper. Everyone finds what works for them.

You can actually get a decent meal for around 100 cals, mushroom omlette (use 1 egg & 1 egg white) and fry a piece of 10 calorie luncheon meat Black Forest ham for a bacon type replacement, 1/2 chicken breast on a salad for lunch, 1/2 salmon steak with a couple of kinds of veg (I like a bit of warm beets and cold salted cucumber on the side. I find if I eat one warm veg and one cold veg at supper it makes me feel like I ate a proper meal. I also keep some more of the fried 10 calorie ham, laughing cow party size cheeses (14 cals each but quite filing with mostly good fat) and cucumber or celery around for snacking on if needed.

I would recommend joining one of the many forums. Little Voices just started a February forum that is a very supportive group!
