    Posting pictures of foods?

    Not pleasant.

I am new and would really love some advice and that as I want to do this diet?

Best advise is to read the book, weigh yourself and take your measurements particularly your waist. Then decide which day you are going to have as your first fast day 🙂
I found when I first started it was best to prepare a ‘menu’ so I didnt have to think too much about food. Salmon or chicken with a huge green salad (added potatoes for my husband) seemed to work well for me 🙂
Also I made sure I was busy all day as if I sit down for long I immediately reach for a coffee and biscuits!
    Good luck!

I’m not clear on the timing. Does a fast day last 24 hours (for example 7 PM Sunday until 7 PM Monday) or +/- 36 hours (for example 7 PM Sunday until sometime Tuesday morning)? Thanks

Hi evans967. The answer is 36 hrs with times roughly as you mention.
    Good luck

    thank you

Hello from the US, starting 5:2 today. 2 years ago I lost 35 lbs from stress. Usually one to overeat in stressful situations I was bombarded by huge life events. My sister passed away, my mother was in the end stages of dementia and passed away, and my daughter had a transplant. This all happening in 6 months time. Although not the way to lose weight I felt and looked wonderful about my reflection in the mirror. I am an avid cyclist but have regained 20 lbs. I am hopeful that 5:2 may be the solution to my weight issues. I am also a two time breast cancer survivor so if the fasting can help with long term health I am all for that. Have a lovely “non tummy grumbling day” Michele

    Great

Just wanted to post about how effective 5:2 has been for me. After 8 or more years of weight watchers and general dieting and my weight generally going in the wrong direction I was really over being on a diet all the time. I came across 5:2 when I still had 6kgs to go to get back to where I wanted to be (having already lost about 10kg) But the thought of the hard slog of regular dieting was looming large. 5:2 really appealed because of the health benefits and has proved to be far easier than I imagined. Fast days have become routine and while my cholesterol has not improved significantly in the 5 months, all of the other benefits have been more than worth it. I am now at the weight I was at when I was 30 and 40 and feel great. I feel it will be sustainable in the long term at the same time as allowing me to enjoy real food and indulgences on a regular basis.
    Love the forums for inspiration!
    Thanks:)

    Hello all,

I can’t work out how to start a new thread so am butting in here. I am new to the 5:2 way of life and am hoping to do my first fast tomorrow, however i work midday uintil midnight and am worried that i will not be able to fit the fast in around these hours as I am usually pretty whacked by the end of my shift, not sure if the fasting will make me a bit wobbly!

I really want to fast on days that I work so that the days I have at home I can enjoy with my family without having to worry about what I am eating. Any tips please?

I was thinking about skipping breakfast and splitting my calories between lunch at say 13.00 and dinner at around 19.30 with lots of water in between to fill me up!

    Thanks.

    Hi Jasperoo,
I am three weeks into fasting and definitely find it easier on a work day than a non work day, probably because non-work days for me mean socialising, often including alcohol. And for you, you want to spend time with your family. I find that not eating at work has had much less of an impact on my productivity than I feared, actually I have better focus and pretty much the same level of energy. I’m a bit hungry, yes, but this just makes me think harder about work!
The best advice I can give you (from my experience) is to delay your first calories for as long as you can – you’ll be hungrier in the hours immediately after eating than you will be leading up to it. And save some calories for something carby in case you really need it before heading home (especially if driving and you don’t feel quite right). This could be a cracker, a weetbix, or a piece of fruit – something that gives you some energy quickly. If you end up not needing it, so much the better – more calories left for dinner! But knowing you have it will give you peace of mind.
    Good luck!

    Hi:

If you have already ‘reviewed’ it, you must think you already know what it is.

Here are some tips for those just starting 5:2: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!
