    Day 31 – Ireland – CD 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽‍♀️ 🌾
    157.5lbs

Thank you @excelsior12309 for hosting this month 🤩 and I’m only sorry that I was missing for most of it… I can feel it – slightly puffier than usual but on the right track back… after a few false starts 👍 I am happy to have dropped 2.5lbs with a good LFD but I’m hungry now😂.

I know this is generally my tricky time of year – end of summer – generally a September trip and a birthday all come together for a perfect or imperfect storm 😂- it’s when I tend to drop off posting also as life seems to get busy even though all of those events are great. I thought I could make changes this year but nope, back into those pesky habits…
This has been a very sad year with a lot of loss and sadly all young people (50s) so I am grateful for the health and energy I have even though it dips from time to time. And all the while mum is still with us and for that I am so grateful although we think it is a sad existence for her even though she seems very content – an amazingly beautiful stoic mother 💕. We do what we can and are keeping mum at home with the most amazing caregivers but it can be very sad at times.

So thanks everyone for being here to always come back to. 💕 Looking forward to November and a reset with zero nonsense 🤩

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Hi Everyone

I’m sorry I have been missing in action this week but I have just caught up on all your posts and have a few minutes for a quick post.

G’day I went from laughing out loud about your “I have a pet owl” comment to being very sad for you when I read about Mr G’day passing. I am so sorry xx
    Sending you hugs.

I have done my FD’s this week. Monday was a proper one and went quite well as I was very busy again (and have been all week!). I did a B2B FD on Tuesday as I had breakfast with my gym friend on Wednesday which was really lovely. Tuesday’s FD was more like an 800 cal FD instead of a 500 cal one but I’m happy that I did it. My weight is still holding in the low 77s, I just can’t seem to break into those 76s at the moment. I know I will get there, just got to keep going!

Hope everyone is going ok. Take care xx

    Day 31, NFD, Aus

Thursdays are supposed to be my FDs but I am just not in the mood. Instead I will try and eat mindfully and minimally.

Thanks for hosting next month @funshipfreddie. See you all in November!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Oops I had a visitor so had to cut short my previous post. I’ve been having ongoing problems the last few months with the drain not leaching out the liquids so the drain needs to be replaced. Initial quote is between $12,000 & $20,000 and most of the house backyard will need to be dug up, including my beautiful new lawn. Whilst it will use up most of my savings and will destroy all the hard work of my landscaping from the last few years I’m not worrying about it as I have no choice in the matter, it has to be done so I just have to grin and bare it. I’m waiting for the plumber to come back and discuss the next steps. Wish me luck that it ends up at the lower end of the quote.

Neil the stress eating has had a huge impact on your weight. I certainly get it as it was stress eating that lifted my weight back up after Mr GDay passed. Have you thought about strategies that you could you put in place to prevent it happening again? What else could provide you with comfort instead of carby foods? Do you keep a visual record of your weight loss because I’m thinking that a chart or even a calendar in a prominent place where you either record your weight loss or tick off each day that you lose or maintain weight as a visual representation. When your craving carby foods looking at the visual may help to sway you to do something else, we all love to see a winning streak don’t we.

Speaking of carby foods. The friend who just dropped in is coming back tonight and bringing tea with them – takeaway pizzas – eh ! I politely declined and offered to make tea but they insisted. Hopefully they won’t stay too long and I can go for a walk afterwards.

    Day 30 – NE England IF 16:8

I’ve been really hungry today but stuck to my 16 hour fast, light lunch of salad then greek yogurt and had nuts for mid afternoon snack. Chilli con Carne in the slow cooker for this evening, ready for the final weigh in tomorrow.
We went to view another house today, down sizing is looking less appealing when we see the size of the rooms. May have to stay put and spend the money on a new roof.
Looking forward to another challenge next month, thanks for making me feel so welcome everyone.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Jean, poor you, all that hassle & they messed up the appointment! Will Faye take you next week? Didn’t watch the budget, it’s just depressing…
Dave- hope the chilli turns out well if you’ve bought a saucepan specially!
    Nana- have a lovely break!
Hemmy- what have you been up to today?
Had a nice walk with Xena at a heath we’ve not been to for a bit- the wildlife trust had goats grazing there until recently. Did our shopping & some cleaning this afternoon. Made some cauliflower cheese fritters tonight but it ended up more of a hash, tasted okay though!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Thin I’m getting fed up with Duolingo too – why do they think I need to learn ‘I have a pet owl’ in the early stages of learning a new language. Also the free version is pretty lame, no context or explanation about the grammar, yeah I get that’s why it’s free haha but I’m not willing the pay over $150 a year for the full version. Luckily when in Adelaide last time I purchased The French Workbook for Dummies so have been alternating between the 2 now.
It would seem my house is perfect for you Thin, it’s small, large parcel of land, distant neighbours, fruit trees and great views but sadly I cannot provide a moat – I have 3 bird baths would they suffice?

Neil I know how you are feeling about the cost of repairs and I sympathise. Where I am we don’t have mains sewerage so we have individual septic tanks and soakage drains. Soakage drains have a lifespan of up to 30 years and guess how old my dwelling is this year – 29 years

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Morning all

Well I had the first of what I hope to be 3 or 4 back-to-back fasts to try to undo the eating from last week. I had just my flat white for morning tea, cup of soup for lunch, and a small portion of curried chicken hearts for dinner, a total of around 500 calories. If I can do that for the next two or three days, I should be able to cancel out the excess calories. Then it will just be whether I can keep enough salt and sugar out of what I’m eating so I can get rid of the excess water weight. I’m going to avoid the rum and cokes and movie snacks this weekend.

The car wasn’t as bad as I was thinking it was going to be, a faulty oxygen sensor meant the car was running poor on fuel, it’s around a $500 fix. I was imagining well over $1000, as anything to do with the car is ridiculously expensive these days.

Cinque, was it German? 😉 I would be useless at sign language, despite the fact I used to play a musical instrument, I have really fumbly fingers

Thin, 4pm is really early to be having dinner, I’m still at work at that time of day.

Anzac, yes, letting things slide was how I got back to where I was in the first place, I’m just going to have to work twice as hard this week to counter what I ate. I still tracked my food despite not really wanting to. The Friday that I had all the car issues I managed to hoover down 5,000 calories, around 2½ days’ worth of food. Saturday was almost as bad, Sunday and Monday weren’t as bad, but still over my calorie limit. Overall, I ate around 7 days’ worth of food in 4 days.

    Have a good one everyone

    Day 31 NZ FD 69kg
    All Hallows Eve 👻 🎃☠️

I got there!! 1 kg down for the month🍀
    Now I’m starting a FD feeling v hungry…
I’m meeting with friends who like to party tonight hard and we are dining out – not quite what I had intended but I’ll be OK if I swerve the pre dinner drinks cheese, salmon and biscuits… Is this likely? Time will tell😀
There was a lot of traffic in my hood y’day and when I returned home, I heard the LOUDEST sound check ever from Eden Park… plus loads of pimply youth were wandering around… Anyone heard of Travis Scott? Reading his rap sheet on Wikipedia I’m amazed he’s allowed into the country… 10 people died and 100s were injured in 2021 because of crowd surges at his concert, which he egged on… amongst other charges he’s got away with…
So I was up late keeping an eye on the kids loitering in our wee Monkey Hill Reserve…
@excelsior12309 My grandma used coke to clean the chrome on her car!! We use ginger ale to settle stomachs.
Thanks so much for hosting. You have done a sterling support job on top of your busy work and family schedule 😘
And thank you @at for the spreadsheet!! Good to see you quietly trucking along on the top row although I do miss your amazing cooking descriptions 😋
@ccco Well done! Just in time for the month’s end weigh I 😀
@funshipfreddie Enjoy your drive! Is it along the coast or inland? I imagine it’s quite beautiful. Do you see any 🦁&🐯😅
@stitchincarol Good on you for making the best decision!!! If you can do it, so can we all!!!
@Brighton-belle, @penz and @northgeorgia See you next month full of vim and vigour
To those on hols @missybear and @michelinme Have fun and lots of R&R!!
@jaifaim You’ll be back and into it when you’re ready. Next month???!!!!
To all you Americans, I hope you don’t get toooooo spooked tonight!!!👀
    Thinking of those MIA @lilymartin, @bert1802, @molij, @daffodil2010
    Cheers everyone!!

Day 30 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

It took several hours, but by the end of the day I felt fine; who knows what my problem was. But I felt so sorry for myself that I almost caved, sure that eating something would make me feel ever so much better. I managed to stop and think and ask how I would actually feel. That’s when I realized that food would actually make me feel worse, emotionally because I caved, and physically because the last thing I needed at the moment was food in my tender belly. Whew! Crisis averted.

    @penz You’re welcome!

@funshipfreddie I’m glad all the irritants, frustrations, and no-fun events of yesterday are leading into a lovely time away with friends; enjoy yourself!

@excelsior12309 I smiled when you pointed out that old fashioned coke is good for an unsettled stomach. When I was a little girl and had stomach issues, my mom tried to give that to me for that very reason, but I point blank refused to drink it. From the very first taste I ever had, I have hated any form of pop my entire life. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s not the fizzy, but the too sweet…So at least that’s one unhealthy thing I’ve never been addicted to, LOL!

@northgeorgia I too am fasting on Halloween. You might make a sign for your desk that announces no sweets will be accepted, and text your mom and warn her. Make a fun/joke thing of it: “Look how weird I’m being today!” Because you’re only foolish to think you can fast on Halloween if you have so little faith in yourself. 💪

We’re getting some desperately needed rain today…not lots, but any bits of moisture are welcome. I’m going to break my fast at lunch with some beans or salad, depending on what DH prefers.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

I was up walking Charlie at 5am not happy at all…

A quiet day for me watching the budget to see how much skinter I am going to be!

    Nana..

    Day 30-No. VA USA-FD 800
I shall do a FD 800 today if I can align all the stars the right way. @funshipreddie, glad you survived the dentist and hope your days away are fun and relaxing. Remember, cats sleep most of the day, so hopefully BooBoo will not build up too much rage!
@stitchincarol, so sorry to hear of your GI distress. Sounds like a food related thing, for sure. Odd that your husband dodged it. Clear liquids, Pedialyte, oddly enough, old fashioned Coca Cola is settling to the stomach when sipped slowly. The syrup used to be sold in pharmacies and you would take a teaspoon to settle the stomach when nauseated; and it worked. Not nutritious, but then, neither is IV fluid when people get dehydrated!
@michelinme, I hope your retreat is fulfilling. I am intrigued.
@jaifaim, good to hear from you. We will all gather here in November.
@northgeorgia, I think the little nibbles are what do me in, sometimes! Because they are very rarely vegetables, and almost always carb/fat/salt laden. (Which does make them delicious.)

Keep on the downward track, all!

    Day 30 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – CD

The dentist session was not fun! But it turned out to be only about an hour + 15 minutes – I’m telling myself because I was such a good patient 😇 😅

@penz – I’m just visiting friends in Gonubie, East London, about 320 km away. Coming back Saturday; my fuzzball Boo Boo will have suffered enough by then 😿

@stitchincarol – yes, I guess I was a bit stressed yesterday. Taking Boo Boo to the cattery, a long dentist session + driving in heavy rain – some of my least favourite things to do. I got lost going to pick up my laundry too, because of a road closure. I couldn’t figure out an alternative route & my sense of direction is non-existent 🥴️ Then when I got home the power was out again! But it came back on after about an hour, phew! I hope you’re back to normal today.

    Happy Hump Day! 🐫

    Thanks Iona.

Perhaps change the goal to 3 lb by the end of the year and then start the new year with the goal of 14lb loss for 2025.

I can only be consistent and try to be patient. Damn frustrating but I am not in charge, my body is.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Hello again,
Nephew has headed back to Bendigo.

Neil, sending so much sympathy. Sometimes 5:2 is like playing snakes and ladders without any ladders, just nasty snakes, and you got the big one.
But that comfort eating – binge eating – is your brain/body trying its best to help you, so don’t beat yourself up. Just be glad you didn’t need more than four days.

Hopefully enough of it is water weight so you get a nice surprise next week.

Here is your belated Happy Birthday greeting:
    https://superbwishes.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Happy-Birthday-GIFs-22.gif

Sending out sympathy wishes and courage wishes to you too Anzac.

Thin, it is so hard to help with things from such a distance, but I bet your brother is so glad of your support. Isn’t Alzheimer’s hard and rotten. One of the family of friends who came on Saturday is my friend Shirl. We’ve been friends for about forty years, we lived in shared houses and I lived for a year on their rural property (in a big army tent down in the bush), I supported her through two birhts and one of her children is named after me. And she didn’t know who I was. She did feel comfortable with me after a while, and when her oldest grandson arrived she asked me if he was one of the family.

They did a lovely job cleaning up!

I tried to learn a new language at about the time I joined this forum. Haha guess which one (the clue is in my username). I tried duolingo but it doesn’t suit my learning style. I didn’t get far. Last year my sister and I joined up an online class to learn Auslan (Australian Sign Language) but neither of us have got far with that either.

    Ciao 😉

Yes unusual for me not to post. Did the shopping at Sainsbury’s work my son, Denise still can’t get around. I’ve ordered a stock pot so I can try and do chilli con carne, I’ll make 4 portions and freeze 3 of them so fingers crossed it works, it’s being delivered later today.I thought about doing it in the pressure cooker but I think it will be better if it takes a couple of hours. Got to buy some spices too go with the chilli. Don’t usually have many spices because Denise doesn’t like them.

OMG just realised it’s a new month on Friday!

I missed the news @funshipfreddie – where are you off to?

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

I’m sorry Neil, I know exactly how depressing it is. I was on track to get well into the 80’s for my holiday and look and feel better about myself. Yet I let stress once again unhinge me and I’m back to 93. We can’t give up, we just have to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and try again

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Morning all, it was as bad as I thought it would be. I gained close to 4 kilos last week. I know a lot of it will be water weight, but it’s still depressing to see that number back on the scale again.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Hello everyone,
I had a big day with family friends on Saturday and continuing my social time as my nephew has stayed overnight after seeing a concert in Melbourne (Thom Yorke).

Cali, you are right, it is the granny smith crispness that makes their sweet and sour taste perfection! Pink Lady is crisp and tangy too, so they are also a favourite of mine Thin (I think it was you who loves them).

I do hope your household are okay after having covid visit. How I wish they made it easy for anyone who works with people to take the time off with any flu/covid/cold symptoms.

Nephew is awake, I will write more later!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Jean- ugh, an early start for you, glad that Fay will take you through. Hope they can fit you in quickly! My friend I saw today, her MIL was staying for a few days, she has just had one eye done, she said it was okay & she can see better now … Fingers crossed for Katie with the job, hope she can fit it in with all the running around she does for the ‘children’!
Hemmy- I think you’re sensible to keep an eye on your weight & not go too low, hope the new way of eating suits you …
Nana- just seen the first Christmas advert on TV, & like you say, so much stuff in the shops already. Hope you have a lovely break away, it’ll be busy with half term! Good that you are finding watching the calories & IF are working for you.
Dave- hope the weather is okay for a while so you can keep doing the bowling practice. Not like you, you’ve not posted today?
Rang my HomeStart family early, was up early so had time to walk Xena first. Saw my friend I usually dog walk with, her ankle is still healing so can’t go out yet, nice to catch up though. Did a beginner HIIT workout today, I’d like to get fitter!

  • No-Nonsense November

    Day <3>

Is that right? Or should it be <2>? 🤔🤣Whatever number, I’ll be here, and I love the name, David, and love your emphasis on not making excuses and not relying on luck.

My continued goal for November is to learn to eat on NFDs the way I’ll need to eat to maintain, so you’ll seldom see me eating minimally on those days, but instead I’ll be eating “reasonably” in a way that will work for the rest of my life.

On the other hand, should I end up with an EFS day, or have too much social stuff show up, I’ll likely add in a day of restraint.

    No nonsense, right?

    Thanks for getting us started!

@stitchincarol – crikey? Hope you’re feeling better by now 🤗

  • No-Nonsense November

Welcome to the ‘No-Nonsense November’ Challenge I’m David, aka funshipfreddie, & I’m taking over the baton from @excelsior12309 who guided us through ‘Outstanding October’. November is seen as a time to start finalising any plans or projects that we had for the year. The End (of the year) is Nigh! And there are only around 55 days before Christmas 😳

I searched for things that are special about the month of November, & I found:- National Cinnamon Day, National Doughnut Day, National Spicy Hermit Cookie Day, National Gingerbread Cookie Day and National Homemade Bread Day 😱 Not quite what I was looking for.

So No-Nonsense November is about finally fulfilling the wellness promises we made to ourselves at the beginning of the year. Time to stop telling ourselves those little fibs, e.g. when we chuck those naughty items into the shopping basket – ‘they’re for in case we have visitors’, or, ‘the double cheeseburger is okay if I have it with the side salad’. And let’s not forget, ‘wine is just brimming with antioxidants!’ We all know what we need to do, so if we want to be looking & feeling our best by New Year’s Eve, let’s roll up our sleeves & get stuck in! 💪

These monthly challenges were started by @coda in May 2016 and have been going strong ever since. Goals can be overwhelming when viewed as a whole. But by breaking them down into small achievable pieces (monthly challenges), we are able to stay focused and motivated to accomplish our goals one step at a time in bite-sized monthly challenges.

There are no rules, but as a general guide, here are some tips for any new people:

    1. Posting – Please start each post with the day of the month, where you are, and if you’re on a fast day (FD), non-fast day (NFD) or controlled day (CD). We’re all over the world and in different time zones so it helps us keep track of which day we’re talking about, who else is fasting with us on a particular day etc. Look at the various posts, and you’ll soon see the pattern, and will learn how useful it is for reading.

    2. In your first post, please introduce yourself to the group – this helps us to get to know each other, which is especially helpful for newbies. Perhaps say something about where you started, your journey so far, what you’re aiming for or how you are benefiting from fasting. You might like to include your starting weight or your goals for the month. But you don’t have to – share only what you are comfortable sharing online.

    3. Spreadsheet – we will have a spreadsheet available and we will post the link on a separate post when we have it. It will be in alphabetical order by username. If you find it helpful, you can use it to record and track your progress as well as keeping track of how others are doing. It can help with perspective, accountability or planning. And if you need help just ask – there’s always someone happy to help. But you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. It’s just another tool you can use if you choose.

    4. Frequency – Some people post daily, others check in every few days. Some are brief, others are long and chatty. If you’re posting for a second time in the same day please head your post e.g. Day 1 – 2nd Post. Past history shows that posting every day truly does help with motivation for staying on track with your goals, so please don’t feel shy about suddenly posting daily; we love new members!

    5. Content of your post– Comments or questions, complaints or celebration – anything you’d like to share with the forum. Recipes, tips, tricks and bright ideas are always welcome. Remember: we all have good days and bad days, days we fall off the wagon or days when we are hanging on by our fingernails, days when our mojo deserts us and days where we feel completely in control. So DON’T GIVE UP – whatever it is, you are not alone!

    6. Community – This is a worldwide forum so there’s usually someone online. We all do our best to offer advice, support and solidarity.

    7. Pocket lists –A ‘pocket list’ is a list of the names of people who are sharing the same goal on a particular day. It’s great psychological support in mentally keeping that list in our back pocket, knowing we’re not alone. Anyone can join a pocket list or start a pocket list. Typical pocket lists are for a FD but in the past they’ve been used for people doing daily exercise or planks, or DTF (dry till Friday).

    8. 5:2 basics – answers to many FAQs plus top tips:
https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    9. The “rule”. The F word (fail) is prohibited!! We all stumble in our journey – it happens. But acknowledge it, think about what you can do next time, and continue. We’re all here to help!

We tend to use a LOT of abbreviations in these posts. Here’s a guide to some of the more frequently used ones:

    5:2 – 5 days NFD – 2 days FD

    16:8 – 16 hours fast – 8 hours non fast

    IF – Intermittent Fasting

ADF – Alternate Day Fasting (FD – NFD – FD – etc)

    AF – Alcohol-free

B2B – Back to Back (consecutive FDs)

    BMR – Basal metabolic Rate

CFD – Controlled Food Day (a day’s eating comfortably below your TDEE)

DH, DD, DS – Darling Husband, Daughter, Son

DTF – Dry ’til Fri (no wine, beer, etc.)

EE – Emotional Eating (reflex grazing out of a need for instant comfort instead of satisfying hunger)

FD – Fast Day (500 cals)

    FD800 – Fast Day 800 calories

Hunger Dragon – that dreadful psychological beast that sometimes cannot be satisfied. Some people even name theirs (e.g. @i-hate-lettuce had an inner warthog!)

KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid!!!

    WOL – Way of Life

WOCA – Woman Of a Certain Age
WW – Weekend Warrior (c/- @jaifaim)
    ZBC – Zero Breakfast

Finally, most of the regular Challengers are not crazy about terms like ‘trying/hoping for a FD’. Or wishing others ‘luck’ for a good FD. Because luck has nothing to do with accomplishing a successful fast day. Remember – it’s no-nonsense November, & we’re getting the job done this month. To quote Jim Rohn, “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” Let’s do this 💪🎯

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Afternoon everyone, a while since I’ve been on here. I keep forgetting to post. Can’t believe that we’re in the last week of October already. This year is flying by.
We’re going to Lowestoft tomorrow for a couple of days to celebrate the fact that it’s sixteen years on Thursday since my OH retired. This will be our last trip away this year. Hopefully starting next Monday I’ll be able to have some consistent weeks of losing weight towards Christmas.
I find 18:6 1300 calories daily is still working for me so shall continue to do so after my return.
Went and did a shop Aldi yesterday and couldn’t believe how much Christmas stuff was on the shelves – it’s to soon.
Hope everyone is keeping well and I’ll try to post daily from Monday if I remember 🤗

Day 29 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD

My body has decided to violently rid itself of all contents. No idea why, and I though I was on the mend when I was finally able to go back to sleep around 4am, but it’s still expressing opinions…and what I ate, or what caused this, is still a mystery, especially as DH ate the same as I and he’s fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So, GAH! I’ve had to cancel my first lesson, and the next two lessons are already cancelled because the girls are sick; I’m holding out hope I’ll be okay in time for the lessons then. So dumb, and irritating, and NOT the way I want to spend my Tuesday.

@merryapple A snail festival in Spain? No, not likely…but a NZ seafood festival??? Now THAT sounds delightful!

@penz this one? https://www.vivino.com/app/ 🥰 I laughed that you’re too stubborn to get bifocals or reading glasses…It’s tough when we get old enough that basic skills like SEEING become a challenge, huh? 🤣 I have bifocals for when I’m at concerts or movies or whatever, bifocals that are sunglasses for when I’m outside–the only glasses that are always within reach, organ glasses that are exactly right for the distance I am when I play organ/piano, and a whole wardrobe of readers. It certainly does get tedious to have such a variety, LOL!

@funshipfreddie You sound stressed, an unusual sound to your chatter. I hope getting off on your trip goes smoothly, and then you’re able to relax and have a lovely time!

@lona72 Downsizing, eh? I’m so tired of a house that’s too small for large gatherings, that I’m wanting to upsize when DH retires next May, LOL. The whole question of what size a house, how large a lot, how many rooms, and where exactly in Lincoln it’s located is so daunting. Will your moving process be as challenging?

@excelsior12309 Your comment about a warm Halloween made me check for here, and it’s supposed to be entirely sunny, but only up to 56–down 20 degrees from today’s forecast. Oh well, it’s been far worse many years, so kids should still be able to have a good time.

@northgeorgia Thanks for the explanation of what you meant by small bites; I thought you were talking about when you’re at home, or at your mom’s. Good for you for weaning yourself off fast food. I’ve been–slowly–learning to question how I’ll feel if I eat something that’s tempting me, and when I think of the belly discomfort, it’s no longer so appealing; sounds like you’re pulling off that same skill!

@brightonbelle If DH and I were living in a home of our home, rather than a parsonage, I would also struggle to do what it takes to move; that’s the one advantage to being in a parsonage is that we simply have no choice! 🤣🤣🤣 I imagine when it really begins to matter to you, you’ll find the motivation to do what it takes.

@ccco Tight clothes are very motivating, aren’t they?

Well, I’m going to get up and move around and see what I can accomplish and determine if I’m safe to leave the house. A WFD feels like it has built-in success, LOL!

    Afternoon All…
A lovely day here made the most of walking in dry weather..

Hospital appointment Wednesday so I will be walking about 5.30 just around the village and to our village green were it has street lights possibly about 40 mins.. he is going to Fays house while she takes me her hubby will be with him. Leaving home at 7.15 am.

    Hedgehog..
Hope there’s good news about your sons job soon..
Katie has applied for a job but 10 years out of work will be hard to get back in to. She had to do a video ant home, answering 4 questions they asked on screen, she had to dress corporate and video in a thoughtful light area! I said she did well to get to the first stage of an interview. She said she spoke to fast/ and she’s English. Next will be role play!! If she gets through.

    Hemmy..
The magnifying glass wouldn’t work as it’s not the size as it’s all blurry… I feel odd around people even at the supermarket better at home on my own, ok walking outside. See what they say tomorrow.
Stratford is so lovely, glad I have been a few times with Steve he took me to many places.

    USA. Day 29

Oh, @stitchincarol, all my clothes are a little tight but I weighed myself this morning and I didn’t add anymore weight. Today, I will fast again!

    @Excelsior112309, I hope you are right. I’m cold! 🥶

I will be keeping myself busy and away from food in November when I update my bathroom and powder room. I’ve picked out everything and I can’t wait to see it
when it’s done! @iona72, I am living in my downsized house and plan this to be my last home. I love it. Good luck finding yours!

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable day! ☺️

    Day 29 UK CD

Just waiting for the chimney sweep- that sounds like somethings out of a Dickens novel , maybe they should rebrand?

Wow busy day @funshipfreddie and a 2 hour appointment!!! Thank goodness you have a treat booked

Your putting me to shame @iona72 we’ve been “thinking “ about downsizing for years but the thought of the little jobs and even worse clearing out somehow derails us …..good luck though

    Day 29 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 238 lbs. @stitchincarol The little bites I’m talking about are the random things like you might expect at church events, these business events, and so forth. Very rarely does someone bring crudites and pure protein bites to those things. I’m happy to report that I’ve gotten to the point where fast food disgusts me. We did stop to get a meal on the go yesterday, and let me say I just wish I hadn’t. More than anything, the beverages now have the effect of sickening me.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 29-No. VA USA-FD 800

Well, yesterday was NOT a good day for controlled eating, so weight this morning was up 1 1/2 pounds from the day before. The effect of a large glass of white wine and some gingersnap cookies after dinner. So back on the wagon today!
@funshipfreddie, good luck with the dentist today. Sorry Boo-boo has to go to cat jail.
Regarding soups made with curry, I had a delicious zucchini soup once made with curry, but I avoid the seasoning now because my husband is quite allergic to cardamom, and many curries contain that. So we tend to avoid Indian restaurants because of that, too.
@ccco, I think you will get your warm weather here by Halloween, it is supposed to hit 80 degrees!
@iona72, what is the real estate market like where you are in England? Here, it is still a bit stagnant, as the interest rate for mortgages is still high (although lower than a year ago.) So they say that older home owners are holding onto their homes because to get a new mortgage would be too costly.
Keep on the downward trail, everyone!

  • If your clothes are looser but the scales are the same, read on

A plateau can be very frustrating @annette52 but don’t give up, keep on doing IF and eventually things will start to happen. I think I will just miss my October goal so now I’m thinking ahead to November! Good luck to you.

    Day 29 – NE England – IF 17:7

Lovely to hear from you all, I’ve been forgetting to post this last week but I will try and engage more.
Still getting plenty of steps in. It was such a lovely day yesterday we walked about 4.5 miles in the morning.
We are thinking of moving house, downsizing a little now there are just the 2 of us,so we have been doing the jobs that need to get finished to put the house up for sale. It’s good to be active all day but I would like an afternoon of knitting or reading!!
Weight loss has stalled a bit, I need to lose another pound before the end of October! 😱

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Good morning everyone. Xx

Its a dull day but very mild .. a good day for the washing line.

It was a lovely day yesterday . but tiring.. I do so love Stratford upon Avon .. oh so very pretty .. and steeped in history. We found some nice buys at the charity shops always good quality stuff there.. A bit pricy but good labels.

Weighed this morning and had lost a pound so 2lb to go .. No wine and no savoury or sweet treats now…. Its funny as I feel better already today .. I never slept well though as in and out of the loo .. I must have been retaining water ..

I feel quite excited again with the diet ..I must be careful though as I don’t want to go any lower in weight .. I need to stay strong I don’t want to get frail. lol you cant win.

Nana .. hope all is well with you.

Dave.. Try some batch cooking and freeze.. You can make a chilli and cottage pie just adjusting the spices .

H H I do think processed foods are really not good us.. all these numbers extra they put .. goodness knows what it is that goes into them.

Sym… How are you managing re your eyes.. Can you read with a magnifying glass I have 2 big ones bought as a pair on amazon.. Keep one up and the other down stairs. Labels are soo tiny now. The riverbank walk sounds lovely..

Enjoy your day everyone. ” Eat for the body we want not the body we have.Xx

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Neil, Happy Birthday. I’m so sorry to read of your disasters over the weekend. Especially concerning that your son has ongoing symptoms from the head injury. As for the binging, well you’ve already beaten yourself up over that so now it’s time to learn from that, look forward and undo the damage. You can do it. I have faith in you.

GDSA, you’re the model health citizen. I used duolingo for a while with my ongoing efforts to learn Spanish. I found it helpful in acquiring nouns but became frustrated with not being able to control which aspects I wanted to study.

My FD came and went but I felt hungry all day. It was the closest I’ve ever felt to abandoning a FD although i knew I wouldn’t do that. As the day wore on, I finally realised that it was because of the time change the previous evening. OH suggested we have dinner at 4pm instead of 5pm and then I went to bed at 8pm. I’m still waking up at 5am and going to bed early. It’s so dark and gloomy.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 29 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

The AGM/special meeting went on & on & on; three hours + 10 minutes?! 🤯 I finally sat down to eat at 2 pm, but didn’t really enjoy lunch because I wasn’t in the best mood. Neither was the cat by the time I got home 😅

Busy day today. Mosaic class as usual, but I’ll have to leave early. I’ve got a two hour stint at the dentist, but they said I must eat first. Then I need to take Boo Boo to the cat prison 😈. Then collect laundry, come home & then pack, phew? And it’s forecast to rain all day

@stitchincarol – oysters, snails, & now frogs legs?! I know it’s almost Halloween, but I’m having nightmares already! 🦇🕸🎃 🐸

@at – I see you’ve updated the spreadsheet. Not a lot of FDs for you this month? 😜 Never mind, a new month is around the corner. Would you please set up a spreadsheet for No-Nonsense November? 🙏 I’ll post the new Challenge later today.

    Have a good day everyone

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 29, NFD, Aus

The thing I enjoy most about agility, @excelsior, is if that if things go wrong, it’s never the dog’s fault. Dog’s know how to jump things and go through tunnels etc so if they do something in the wrong order, it’s the handler’s fault for not providing clear signals. My old dog would literally stop and bark at me if he did not understand what ever I was poorly trying to convey to him. It was nice to get such clear communication from him that I was doing a bad job!

I keep forgetting to look up that vino app, @stichincarol. Must do that soon!

I got new glasses today. My (distance) prescription is increasing, and it now means I am struggling to see this computer screen clearly. I need to work out my new focal length for up close work. I am too stubborn to get bi-focals or reading glasses!

I’ve made cauliflower soup with walnuts, but never tried it with curry powder. And all this talk of citrus desserts makes me want to do my grandmother’s lemon delicious pudding Right Now!!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Morning all,

I’ve had an absolutely disastrous weekend. I was heading off on my trip on Friday, I was all packed up and on my way. I’d driven around three hours, when all the engine warning lights came on in my car. I stopped at the nearest town to check what I could, but there wasn’t anything I could see. I couldn’t find anyone to look at it because it was the beginning of a long weekend over here. I wasn’t keen to drive the rest of the 7 hours up to Nelson and then the 10 hours back again, so I cancelled my trip and limped back home in the car, stopping every 70km or so to let the car cool off and settle down.

I lost $200 in accommodation through non-refundable deposits, the car is booked in today to find out what is wrong, but that’s likely to be expensive, and to top it off we had heavy rain, and we discovered we have a leak in the roof as we had water staining showing up on our ceiling. I’ve got a guy coming around to look at that as well, and that’s also likely to be expensive. I was so depressed I went on a binge-a-thon, just ate crap for 4 straight days. I’m guessing I’ve probably undone about a month of weight loss in 4 days.

Today is my birthday and I’ve just cancelled my leave for this week and gone back to work, because the weather forecast here is looking pretty grim for the rest of the week. I’m really feeling pretty depressed and ashamed of myself for eating so much in response to the stress.

I hope everyone else had a better weekend than I did.

Thin, the principle called to admit that they had not done the right thing and they have altered all their regulations to say that if something similar happens in the future, they should seek professional medical assistance rather than relying on first aiders in the group.
