Thin Spitting Image is about the leave Britbox Australia, I’ve just binge watched it for that reason.
While the $12 for 3 bottles of red wine might equate to a pint or two at a pub, its really important to remember that the cost of ‘the pint’ includes all that you are using by being at the pub – the atmosphere, staff wages, toilets, entertainment, cleaning, set up costs, buying the business and all the thousand and one costs that are associated with being in business. They have to cover all of this and hopefully at some stage make a profit and it can only happen if patrons spend money in the pub.
So for this reason I have a very different view to yours Thin. Even though I live on minimal income and have to watch every cent, I feel it is so important to support establishments to survive and hopefully thrive by spending money so the venue can continue to provide us with live entertainment, food and drinks while employing people and contributing to the fabric of the community.
There is one pub where I live and if patrons only bought one drink and nothing else the pub would certainly close because they would be making a loss. The pub provides lunch and dinner 7 days a week, a social club, bar snacks, raffles, weekly members draw, pool table, kids play area, christmas and easter functions for patrons and kids and free live entertainment. It needs the community to support all of these things to survive and stay open. If the pub closes, the social connections of this community go with it.
We reached exactly 46 deg (nice round figure) at 5.15pm under my back verandah yesterday and at 10am this morning we are currently sitting at 40.4 deg. I’m not going to complain about the heat as I made a point during winter of mentally telling myself how much I hate the cold, how hard it is to get out of bed in the mornings and how difficult it is to get motivated so I’m embracing the heat. Although I’m stuck inside during these heatwaves, on a normal hot day I still get out and about and the heat doesn’t bother me too much, I love living in shorts and singlets.
The garden workload is reduced now everything is on a watering system and timers, with the exception of the spare block with the native and olive trees which are on watering systems but not timers so still easy to just turn the tap on and come back half and hour later and turn it off again. I didn’t have time to install pop up sprinklers in the lawn when I laid it earlier in the year but I have since purchased some and hope to have those installed soon, a lot easier than dragging the hose and sprinkler around the back yard. The garden is fairing very well in the heat with the exception of most of my nasturtiums which are now shriveled up and dead – the sun and heat yesterday was just too much for them.
I have some halloumi cheese in the fridge so halloumi salad for lunch today, its been ages since I had halloumi so looking forward to it. Time to go, you guessed it – coffee time.

I would have been responding to posts earlier but I got engrossed in the YouTube video that Funshipfreddie sent us. It was excellent! I thank him for that!
Yes, like Funshipfreddie said, with all those FDs, I should be a bean pole by now. However, since I have had my grandchildren over fairly frequently, I have bought snacks for them. Guess what I am doing when they are not here?? I am working on that.
Merryapple, I am enjoying the Gaelic. My grandparents were fluent in it but only shared a little with us. The YouTube video you mentioned sounds fun. I like to look at fashion. No gain for December is a good goal for the holiday season!
Also, I am glad to see you have been able to get out and about but I am jealous of your warming weather. It’s freezing here!🥶
I am holding in my fast today. Still haven’t eaten anything but had black coffee and water, so far!
Hope everyone has been enjoying their weekends! 👍🏻
Afternoon!
Hemmy- it must be nice to do something different at Christmas when you miss loved ones, it’s hard with the memories, I don’t enjoy Christmas so much now without dad…Yes, Mum is definitely worse because of Christmas, overwhelmed with it all, even though she doesn’t have too much. Just hope that she improves after, it’s been a bit like that other years.
Dave- what roast are you having today? Xena sniffs all the lamp posts last thing at night too, she doesn’t in the day time, too excited to get somewhere better! She knows the night walk is boring, just round the block!
Jean- are you okay to go for your checkup next week, or is it a long way? Will be nice to get that out the way, & hopefully a date for the other side!
Going out to watch the tractor Christmas lights parade coming through the village shortly, they’re very vague about the time though! Will be a late dinner though…
Day 15 – USA/GA – FD
Weigh-in: 233 lbs. This is four weeks of no post-NFD Saturday gains on Sunday morning. In fact, three out of four have been losses. Good sign!
@stitchincarol Unfortunately, everyone at my table were a bunch of people who already went through a major weight loss journey or are in the midst of one, and it didn’t have much effect. I think the other tables were worse LOL! Still, in the end, I weigh the same today as I did before I went to the event that morning, so I guess I didn’t pig out the last couple of days as much as I imagined.
I’m planning a B2B FD today and tomorrow, but you know how this time of year goes. I’m excited to be entering the low 230s zone and am getting super motivated for the new year.

Well done Iona.
I forgot to stand on the scales this morning which is a bit annoying but I have eaten mindfully today so far. Planning to skip breakfast again tomorrow.
Day 15 UK NFD
Had a very busy few days and going out for lunch with old friends shortly so looking forward to a reset FD tomorrow and a couple of quiet days

Up and out early for a hike with friends. A really lovely night was had and will check in later. Think it’s the yum steak dinner and dessert and the gf sausage roll I came across in a lovely cafe yesterday 😊 showing in my numbers… no 🍹 just water…
No regrets♥️
Present wrapping and general relaxation is on the menu this afternoon …. 🎄

A Saturday pocket list?! Well done fellow fasters 🥇
@ccco, @stitchincarol – I did get a lot done at the class. But I always take a picture before I leave, & I’m not thrilled with what I did. So I’ll be undoing some of my work on Tuesday. I’ll be bringing the pot home then anyway as it’s the last class of the year. But I can finish it at home.
@ccco – you’re having a LOT of fast days, you should be like a bean pole by now 😅
I watched this last night. Dr Chris van Tulleken’s 1 hour BBC documentary from a few days ago. ‘Irresistible: Why we can’t stop eating’
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gGZqm5dnmc&list=WL&index=157 Worth watching, but I imagine it won’t be on YouTube for long.
@jaifaim – I’m curious. Is this what really happens when Americans visit Ireland? 🤣
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzlMME_sekI
It will be our usual card game this afternoon. One of my card buddies was telling me he’s been diagnosed ‘pre-diabetic’. So it’ll be interesting to see if he avoids all the junk food when it appears. He’s in good shape for 79, & walks a lot with his dog. But he loves cooking & eating, & although he hasn’t said so, I’m sure he thinks fasting is a symptom of insanity 😅
Happy Sunday! ⛅️🌈

Day 15 NZ NFD 69.2kg 🚴♀️
Greetings all! Apologies for my absence ( not abstinence🤣).
I lost a big post because it timed out…
I have been getting out of the house first thing because the temps are rising… although not hot enough to not eat!!! I’ve been on train trips and a ferry trip across the harbour and generally having fun. There were two enormous cruise ships parked up disgorging huge quantities of people into the downtown.
I’m aiming for a no gain Dodgy December and am hanging in there… At the moment I have my feet up and am watching the England NZ cricket test on TV. Summer is truely here!!
I have just caught up on everybody’s posts. Some hilarious stories abound – the return of the Bears who were Christmas soccer hooligans, the throwaway hubcap etc.
@stitchincarol I looked admiringly at KitchenAid mixers for some years and it was the candy apple red (car) paint that got me over the line! It’s luscious!!
Lovely that @jaifaim’s Gaelic phrases are being collected by @ccco. My father’s family come from the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides where Gaelic is spoken.
I watched a fab doco on YouTube called Christian Dior in Scotland. It followed the preparation of their 2024 collection based on Mary Queen of Scots and was presented in the grounds of Drummond Castle. Mr Dior’s last presented a collection in the 1950svto high society at Gleneagles. If you like weaving, history, haute couture, the Scottish Borders and the Outer Hebrides, I’m sure you will enjoy it!!
Next week will be a big week because that’s when I do my Christmas shopping!!
I’ve just had dinner – pork and pearl barley risotto with asparagus.
FD tomorrow😬
USA. Day 14. FD
Iona72, I love that your 2 year old granddaughter had her first dance recital. My granddaughter just turned 3 a couple of days ago and loves dancing. I know my daughter has had her in dance classes because I have photos of it but I don’t think she ever had a recital. I think that would be fun to see. Glad you are enjoying your Christmas festivities. My family keeps getting sick, so we are constantly cancelling things. I hope everyone is well for Christmas dinner because I am cooking it! 😊
Just got drenched taking Chloe out, she’s stopping at every lamp post and corner.Always does this when it’s chucking it down. I’ll try and leave the choccy alone but getting weaker by the minute 👿👿😈👿😈.
Day 14 NE England NFD
Scale is steady so I’m happy with that under the current circumstances. Had a mince pie today at a children’s Christmas party and enjoyed every crumb! It was my Granddaughters first dance show, age 2, she did so well! We are all very proud as we expected stage fright.
Got to be restrained for the next few days before our Christmas party on Thursday evening. I will have turkey and all the trimmings and a little bit of Christmas pudding, then another period of restrained behaviour before the big day!
I am doing ok, managing to maintain and resist temptation although I did have a mince pie today at a children’s party. My Granddaughter was in her first dance show, at age 2, it was very cute!
Hoping to stay on track for most of next week, but we are out on Thursday for our Christmas party so I’ll be tucking in to turkey and all the trimmings and a bit of Christmas pud 😋
Keep up the fasting Annette, it really does work.
Rather pleased with myself today. Completed a 24 hour fast. Hopefully that will help in the bid to lose that pesky half an inch off the waist.
Going to skip a few more breakfasts in coming days and to eat mindfully every day.
Good afternoon everyone .Xxxx
.A beautiful morning and early afternoon. pure blue sky and lots of sunshine.. . hope it was your sky too. Xxxx
A lovely walk with a very funny lady from the village . she is soo much fun and outrageous a colourful life lol. Good job the fields don’t have ears lolol.
Just finished a yearly job I really hate doing.. accounts for the end of tax year on my rental place.
Dave.. Just choose what you really like as Christmas treats and stick to them. ..All the orange smarties. lolol
H H .. Do you think its all the Christmas hype making your Mum worse..Lots changing all the time too .. so much to keep up with. Plus its always a sort of sad time missing loved ones more.
Sym.. I think I shall enjoy getting dressed up and going out.. It has seemed sad at Xmas sitting at the table without Andrew then Mum. We will see. Really I could have done without going to lunch on Xmas eve as well for my Bday. Too much really but Kristy booked it.
Nana hope all is well with you.
Enjoy your evening everyone. .. Health is wealth. Xxxx

Good day, FUNSHIPFREDDIE! Looks like everyone is out Christmas partying! 😊
I hope your day is going well and you enjoyed your mosaic class.
I complained about my weight gain yesterday but today I am two pounds down. I think yesterday’s gain was water retention. I have been attempting to rid myself of salt, no easy task for me. I love salt but I am getting there. I already rid myself of sugar and white flour some years ago.
Well, here’s to another FD!
Day 14 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD800 – 154.8
DH and I got 20 miles south last night as we headed to the Seward vocal jazz concert and then to the Lincoln basketball game, and I reminded him of when I was due with our youngest and we’d been at a wedding, and I said “Let’s not go to the reception.” He was surprised–I NEVER willingly pass on a fun evening–but agreed, and I went into labor two hours later and gave birth that night. Nope, not pregnant now, but in that very rare spirit, I asked him to turn around and head back home. Moisture was coming down, the temperature was dropping quickly, and we already had ice on the windshield where the wipers didn’t touch. Best decision possible. On the news later, a reporter talked about how he and other cars were going only 10mph and even so, when he braked, he simply slid sideways. WHEW! It’s a shiny world out there this morning with all the ice on the ground, and there’s still moisture coming down and it’s a degree below freezing so it’s not going to thaw/melt any time soon. Good excuse to enjoy my coffee, Christmas music, and knitting in my warm and cozy home.
@missybear VERY impressive RESOLVE you’re showing, and a very sensible plan as well; I’m excited to hear what your month’s loss is when we get to the end of December. And if it’s not a loss because you allow yourself greater freedom right around Christmas Eve/Day, then I’m sure it won’t be a gain given your stellar behavior right now.
@funshipfreddie Have fun getting loads accomplished on your big pot!
@jaifaim I certainly understand the frustration that you’re not quite accomplishing a 2-3 lb loss, but I’m also certain all the heavier people around you are simply envious how beautifully thin you are, and no one else will ever know that 2-3 lb difference between where you are and where you prefer to be. So hold on to the joy of being so very close and to the pride of knowing what you’ve done to accomplish that and to the confidence that you WILL eventually get down where you want to be. ❤️💪
@excelsior12309 What a great thing to make, given it’s not tempting to nibble at it, LOL! I have two batches of cookies on my agenda today…it will not be as easy for me! My first KitchenAid was royal blue, and about twenty years later, I bought my sister’s emerald green one because it was bigger and stronger, and it’s the one that’s not working all that well; DS28 has my original blue one, LOL! They do last forever, huh? My new one is red, the color I wished almost immediately I’d chosen instead of blue all those years ago, so I’m finally smiling at the red every time I look at it. And how lovely that you’re not flying back up on the scale; a tough way to lose weight, but one has to celebrate the results if not the process.
@northgeorgia Just remember that there a super thin people who commonly say no to food where–I think–you feel obliged to say yes. Perhaps you need to get close to them at these parties, and eat only what they eat. 🤣 I’ve actually done that in the past, and used the line, “I’m enjoying visiting so much, I don’t want to be busy chewing so I don’t get to chat with as many friends!” Well, okay, I haven’t–but it’s a line worth trying, don’t you think? 😏😂❤️👍💪
I sat on the sofa yesterday and in the space of 45 minutes bought all the rest of my Christmas presents for people. It felt glorious to be done with that, and to feel as if I’d made great choices. And I ran errands yesterday and got a lot of piddly things taken care of, and am pleased every time I get to cross something off my list. so I’d best quit chattering and get to work again on that list!
Have a grand one, everyone!

Anzac, oh yes I think you’d told us before that you were flying between the cities. The UK has the most expensive ‘per mile’ train travel of anywhere in Europe – and it’s going up next year. I’m pleased that you’re having such a great time despite the nippy temperatures. Are you finding everything expensive in the UK? I gather there’s a cost of living crisis in Australia too, but things always seem more expensive when you’re travelling and unfamiliar with how to mitigate those costs.
GDSA, I used to enjoy the series, ‘Spitting Image’ but it’s now only available on BritBox and I don’t want to pay for yet another subscription.
Coming from southern California, where people are largely very health-conscious, we were shocked at how much alcohol Australians could put away when we first arrived. But the British seem worse. People seem so reliant on it in order to enjoy themselves. When you fill in a health or dental questionnaire, the multiple choice answers for the amount of alcohol consumed in a week are staggering to my thinking. Apart from the health implications, we’re too cheap to buy more than one drink in a pub. When we visit the local pub near here, we nurse a pint over the two hour live jazz session and OH has already had his lunch on the boat before we go. That’s £12. I can buy three bottles of Californian red wine for that which would last us weeks!
Yes of course, a person has to want change before any addiction can be tackled. That’s why the article I posted above (8 Dec) appealed to me. It’s up to individuals to initiate the changes but it’s important to have available all the required resources to enable those changes.
Cinque, yes, we have very different thinking. And it’s much harder to express those thoughts (and not have them dismissed or misinterpreted) in this format than through having a chat in a cafe. I come from the background of having a career that trained me to help people to help themselves. Teaching people to fish rather than handing them the fish and all that.
I’m so grateful for the changes I’ve been able to make to my own health over the past decade. I’m even more grateful that our DD is happy, healthy, independent and a critical thinker. I am comfortably in the 59s and planning to treat Christmas like all the other days of the year. A bit of feasting and lots of famining. We will soon be leaving for our remote Christmas pet-sitting gig where there is no phone signal. I’m so looking forward to that. Board games, WASGIJ puzzles, long fireside chats and hours of dog walking along the Viking Way.
Have a super festive holiday all and a healthy New Year!
Afternoon All..
Up and out early.. I stayed the same this week, a few ounces up.
I went for lunch there were three of us, very good food and very comfortable today with who I was with. I wasn’t looking forward to it but all was well.. we had a good talk about these ‘secret’ groups.
Hemmy..
Shame on finding a wreath but hopefully you can make one. You are very busy with eating out over Xmas but making it very easy. I have never done a meal out on Xmas day.
Hedgehog..
Well done sorting through your clothes, Katie has been going through hers too a suitcase full up to now. A big worry with your mum, just take a day at a time.
Dave..
Well done on loosing, difficult when you have a lot of birthdays and Xmas… just start again when you are all clear, or push a few fasting days in were you can. I love my orange smarties.. I haven’t seen any this year.
I can’t believe a month is nearly up since my op hoping to get the all clear on Thursday…🤞🏻

Day 14 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 234 lbs. Woah that little gathering had a lot more than snacks… it was a true all out brunch with extras. Anyway, up another pound. I’ll likely make tomorrow a FD. The next two weeks are going to be really messed up as far as eating, but I’m resolved to resist incessant snacking.
Hello 👋
Dave- you’ve done so well this year, hope you can keep strong!
Woke at 4am, quite worried about mum at the moment, I’ll read the Contented Dementia book again, see if any of the helpful strategies might work… seeing her this afternoon. Had a productive morning, a bit of keto baking, did some extra training & a game with Xena, ironing, & sorted out my wardrobe, which has been on my list of jobs to do for ages 😂Couldn’t find my winter polo back tops to go under fleeces, & now have more than I thought!
Day 14-No. VA USA-FD800
Well, my weight is stable in a low range from my unfortunate gastroenteritis of the other day, so I am sticking to very small amounts of food and lots of electrolyte drinks (which are pretty low calorie in the “Gator Lyte” brand). So far, so good.
I am going to make some pierogi and freeze them for Christmas. I will use a recipe my mother-in-law used. So, memories for my husband. They are a lot of fiddly work, but not hard. It is easier to do when you have a group of helpers, but “needs must” as the Brits would say! At least there is nothing particularly tempting to taste while making them.
@funshipfreddie, you should have a productive day of mosaic work, without too much distraction. Still waiting for the design of Boo-Boo. @jaifaim, you are hanging on the wagon, that is what counts! @stitchincarol, enjoy your new mixer! I just realized the other day that I got mine as a Christmas present when my kids were in middle school, and they are 40 and 41 now. I hope I don’t start to hear gears grinding anytime soon! It has been a workhorse. Mine is functional white; is yours a clever new color?
Also, rather annoyed to report that neighbors had bears around the other night. Apparently the bear(s) smashed a box of wine bottles they had on their porch. Drunken “porch pirates” from @ccco‘s neighborhood!!!
Best of luck to all!

Morning All,
Stood on the scales this morning and the seem to have acquired several lbs, which is not a surprise after this week. The hard one half an inch off my waist is back on too which is disappointing but not a surprise either.
The plan for today is to skip breakfast and have a light lunch. I am off for coffee this morning with a friend and really need to buy some food for the boy and I to eat this evening.
Its 11 days until the blood pressure review. I wonder if I can get the scales and waist back by then???
I have been given lots of chocolate at work, which is lovely but I intend to share as much as I can with the boys when they are home for a few days. Sadly I love Christmas cake, mince pies and christmas pudding.
Day 14 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
Very quiet here?! Everyone busy fasting, exercising & Christmas shopping, obviously 😅
@davinac – welcome back!
@missybear – TRE + 2 meals a day, sounds like a plan. That’s generally what I do on NFDs too. I just need to plan what I eat better & stop buying junk.
@jaifaim – I was wondering about @daffodil2010 & @snowflake56 too. @snowflake56 last posted on Sept 3rd when she mentioned going to the Netherlands for a short break… 🤔
I’m off to a Saturday mosaic class. They’re usually much quieter than the Tuesday classes, so I get a lot more done. Last week there were only 3 of us, & the other two had left before noon 🎨
Back on the pocket list tomorrow 💪
Have a good weekend everyone ⛅️🌈
Thin you are correct in calling the consumption of UPF an addiction because that is exactly what it is, and like all other addictions stopping is not an easy thing to do because there are so many addictive factors in play. There is another addiction that is glorified in today’s society – alcohol. It causes so much damage to society as a whole and to individuals yet just like UPF it is readily available everywhere and is promoted as being a good thing to consume. Sadly money and power are more valued than health and wellbeing.
Anzac I am so envious. My grandparents were Scottish so all things Scottish were a thing in my family. My brother played in the local Caledonian band for over 50 years until they folded due to lack of membership. Every Christmas morning without fail my father would play his bagpipe records on our His Masters Voice stereo at full blast while mum was cooking the Christmas roast. Watching the yearly Edinburgh Military Tattoo was a big event in our household.
I’ve watched a lot of shows on Britbox that were based in Bath and it looks so beautiful. I had a big chuckle at your heatwave comment. It’s 10am here and we’ve just hit 35 deg already. Tomorrow the forescast is 44 so no doubt we’ll end up higher than that. Enjoy the cooler weather and fingers crossed for snow.
Lindsay It will be interesting to see how the new Trump administration pans out. I’m definitely not happy with Musks appointment and Kennedy is a bit of a lose cannon but if he can tackle the big UPF corporations then he has my vote. We will wait in anticipation of what’s to come.
LJoyce MOA – perhaps busy with Christmas functions or baking.
Cinque the garden planting sounds wonderful. My basil didn’t grow for some reason so it’s on my list to plant more seeds. I have a bumper crop of capsicums from 6 bushes. I grown then for myself and for our guinea pigs as they love them so much and at times very expensive to buy.
Neil what a bummer on the weight gain and ill heath. Fingers crossed for you too that you feel better soon and the pesky fluid disappears. Hoping the time away from work will help to move things in a positive direction for you.
Coffee time x
HH I may well cook it all, give Denise a rest. Hemmy is very tempting to eat and start again after christmas.it was my son’s birthday this week and my daughter’s birthday a few days after yours. Then Denise as her birthday the first week in January and my birthday is at the end of January. So it’s difficult to lose weight the next month
Hello everyone,
My little seedlings are pretty well surviving. The weather has been in the early 20sC but such full sun I have needed to cover them with flowerpots during the day, and now we have a few days of heatwave so they may not survive. I think a couple of basil seedlings will though, and that is the main thing.
Anzac, woohoo what a great holiday. I wish our Monday forecast (41C) was an Isle of Skye heatwave figure instead! But yes, Sydney is getting it worse so maybe they could have it.
Thin, I am so different to you in this way. I love to see people embraced as beautiful, including when they are morbidly obese. I am tempted to tell every fat woman I see that she is beautiful, because I know the self loathing that is so universal, caused by the loathing they/we are shown by others. I celebrate when fat women refuse to be crushed. As if it isn’t hard enough to be fat already.
Neil, what a rough trot you are having. Hang on in and good luck getting over the rough ground as easily as you can. I hope easier times come soon. Hooray for your holiday coming.
Lindsay, ha yes, I suspect most of the cooking is still done by women too. I still grieve for being unable to get my YamDaisy cafes going.
I am not doing too bad. Still coughing, I will see the doctor again. My stomach biopsies were clear, my small intestine ones indicative of celiac disease!!! But also indicative of ulcers caused by aspirin, which is much more likely. When I asked the specialist how on earth they could be causing my cough he said they couldn’t be.
I am going to do cooking today so I don’t have to again until the cool change on Monday evening. A big soup in the pressure cooker so it doesn’t take very long.
Sending out good wishes to everyone.
Hi all
Thin we flew from Bristol to Edinburgh. We wanted to catch the train but it was so expensive – at least 4 times the air fare
We are loving Edinburgh so so much – the architecture and the character are mind blowing. It is very very cold but we were blessed with a gorgeous sunny day on our first full day. Lindsay yes agree Bath and Edinburgh are both beautiful but very different
We embark tomorrow on our 3 day tour up north to the isle of Skye and back. There seems to be a heatwave coming; all the websites I check say both Edinburgh and Skye will have a high of 11 degrees!! When we first arrived the high was -1 then today it was a balmy 5 degrees so we had hoped for snow but now I doubt it
We are having the most wonderful trip and feel very blessed
Everyone at home us telling us about the heatwave. Apparently it is forecast to get to 40+ next week in Sydney. Yikes
Hope everyone is ok, take care
Evening!
Dave- you are good at choosing presents for Denise, I’m surprised you’re not cooking all the Christmas dinner! Well done with the weight loss, sorry if I missed that! Can’t stand orange smarties!
Hemmy- lots of birthdays in your family over Christmas! Enjoy a few treats, you’ll soon get the couple of pounds off…
Jean- hope you had a good walk again today?
Decided to have a day off keto today, I wanted to get the marzipan on the cakes & I love that! We’ve been craving fish & chips too…got alot done as well as the cakes, all the presents wrapped, have done hampers for Mum & youngest son. My sister had fun with Mum today, she was all tearful again, she managed to get mum out & get her organised with buying cards… it’s so upsetting seeing her like that, my turn tomorrow…
Dave… Its very hard now.. .. I think its best that we all just enjoy what we want to eat don’t beat ourselves up and enjoy it .. and start again In the new year.
We all know we can do it when we put our minds to it. Just having a glass of wine and crisps .. It is Christmas but once a year thank goodness lolol Xxxx
Day 13 Wales 🏴 NFD
Good FD yesterday and I held out till 2pm for brunch. I’m currently managing to do TRE and 2 meals a day keeping within my TDEE. I’m hoping this behaviour will help me to maintain this month despite some festive treats.
I’ve had a busy day of chores today so I’m looking forward to a well earned glass of wine with my fish and veggies dinner tonight. TGIF 🥂
USA. Day 13 FD
FUNSHIPFREDDIE, I loved your tire story. It sounds like something I would do. However, the only time I was alone with a flat tire when I was young, a nice young man came to the rescue of the damsel in distress! I lucked out! LOL
Thank you, jaifaim, for that information. I will practice doing that. Beware, though, you might be getting a bit more Gaelic! LOL
Excelsior12309, I thought what you said about your medical assistant was funny! I know that I am more than old enough to be my primary care’s mother! While sometimes I find that disconcerting, I am determined not to have anymore doctors who could retire on me! LOL
NorthGeorgia, you seem to be navigating the holiday season very well! Congrats!
Stitchincarol, your current weather is exactly why I don’t think I could ever live in the mid-west or the west! I know what levels of snow you can have. I met someone from the mid-west a few years back who was from the mid-west while I was on vacation in a lovely warm spot. They told me that back home the snow was higher than their two story house!!! That was why they were on vacation. I can’t imagine that being in my life!!
DaviniaC, I wish I was in Majorca right now!!😊
Well, I have been avoiding the fact that this morning I weighed myself. I was up 2 lbs. and I perfectly agree with what Stitchincarol said. In my case, I have been trying to eliminate salt. I have managed to eliminate everything else but salt is hard for me. Unfortunately, I ate some salt last night and I could feel my hands were swollen when I woke up this morning and, unsurprisingly, found myself 2 lbs. heavier with water retention. That would incentivize me to stay off the salt today! 🤪
Given that two pound gain (I am sure from salt), I am on a quest today…no salt and low calories. I don’t want to see that weight again tomorrow! 👍🏻 Given that, I join the pocket list again today or I will create one!
Pocket List Day 13
Hope everyone is having a good day!
I did get weighed on Wednesday and have lost 1.5lbs. Going to be difficult to keep it going especially at this time of year. Still got 3 boxes unopened but the hardest thing to resist is orange smarties.😋😋😋.
Good afternoon everyone. Xxxx
Another damp dark one here today … at least its easy to get about with no ice or snow. .
Looking forward to the 21st when the nights start getting lighter.
A nice day out yesterday .. I think I have all the presents now . Will just do a big shop next week .. We are out Christmas eve for my Bday meal then again Xmas day. .then Kristy will go home boxing day as its her Bday
I am not bothering with cooking a ham this year .
I am still hanging on to the 2lbs from last weekend. Better pull my socks up. lol
Dave… Lovely gifts for Denise she will love them.
H H ..Well done on your loss this week.. .. not easy with treats about.
Nana.. Hope you are having a good day.
Sym ..Never found a wreath .I might just get one from Tesco and add too it..I have plenty of pretty conifer in the garden. ..Yes lots of disappointing eating places now.. It s best to just stick with a few tried and tested ones.
Enjoy the rest of the afternoon… just going in the garden to play with Pip its getting darkish already.
“Friday is nature’s way of telling us to take a break and enjoy life.” . Xxxx
.
You’re doing great on keto HH.I got Denise a big jewellery box and a nice necklace to go in it. It’s her birthday soon so got those presents as well. Must write the cards and give the Christmas one to her. She’s complaining her tray for cooking a bird in is too small. I threw the big one out. So I’ve just ordered a large tray and it comes with 3 smaller ones that all fit instead it. I’ve got the job of doing the roast potatoes at Christmas they all seem to like them. Not long to go now.
Day 13 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 153.4
It’s 10 degrees (-12C) and we’re supposed to get ice and snow tonight, which entirely scuppers our plans to go to a 4pm vocal jazz concert in Seward and then on to a 7pm Husker basketball game (for which we were gifted tickets) in Lincoln. 😢 If it doesn’t materialize as forecast, we may still go, but I think I see the handwriting on the wall, sadly…
Yesterday’s WF went well. I was COLD, however, as I had no calories in me to warm me up, and the air temp was about the same as today. I took to drinking hot water (tea didn’t interest me, nor coffee) and that helped and I just suffered through the hunger. 😏 Now I’m considering my meal options for today, which will be entirely different than planned given the weather and its impact. Can you tell it’s made me a bit grumpy, LOL?
@ccco Keep in mind that two actual pounds requires 7,600 calories. A glass of wine is about 200 calories, give or take. So there’s zero possibility that a glass of wine packed on two pounds. Try weighing yourself, then drinking a HUGE glass of water, then weighing yourself again. The scale will be up, but clearly you haven’t gained anything, but are instead simply carrying the weight of the water–or in the case of this morning, the weight of the wine and anything else you ate/drank. Keep the faith; you’re being so diligent about fasting that your weight has to be falling, despite temporary gains. 👍
@funshipfreddie I’m delighted for you at your well-behaved scale this morning!
@jaifaim Okay, WELL done on the work Christmas dinner yesterday! And to be down a couple ounces in the process? Very impressive control. 💪 And I too have been thinking often of @snowflake56 and @daffodil2010…miss them!
@excelsior12309 Yeah, it’s always shocking when we realize how young some of the people are around us–one of my adult piano students, who feels like a friend, has parents who are younger than I am, LOL. Just goes to show, I suppose, how unimportant age can be. 🤷🏻♀️
@davinac Given what’s outside my windows, and what’s forecast for this evening, blue skies and warm sun sound absolutely divine. Welcome back!
My 35yo KitchenAid mixer is close to dead, so DH gave me a new one for my birthday (per my request) and I think I’ll christen it today by mixing up some cookie dough and scooping balls to freeze. I have five recipes I’d like to have for Christmas, so it’s time to start getting them mixed up and scooped and in the freezer ready to bake. Which means I’ll have to use lots of discipline and RESOLVE not to nibble on dough. But with sufficient thinking time, I’ll be up to the challenge.
Have a grand one, everyone!
Day 13 Germany FD
Just returned from a short trip to Majorca. It was great to have a couple of days sun and blue skies. The first day was very windy and the wind lifted my balcony glass table top and shattered it, plus blowing over a cupboard. So a bit of clearing up was done. Weight wise at a standstill with 64,5 kg, but determined to get another 3kg off.
@stitchincarol loved the story about the cop giving you a ticket, think the guy has a good sense of humour (or not).
Well it’s Christmas Market weekend with friends, so a few Gluhweins are planned, so don’t expect to loose any this week.
Happy weekend to you all.
Day 13 – USA/GA – NFD
Weigh-in: 233 lbs. I behaved badly last night… a routine change threw me off. The greasy breakfast at the roundtable had me running to the bathroom an hour and a half later LOL!
Anyway, the weigh-in is decent. Today is the holiday office mingle at a coworker’s home.
Day 13-No. VA-NFD
Well yesterday, I returned to the land of the living! Thank you for your good wishes. I actually did some oatmeal for dinner of what turned out to be OMAD yesterday. My weight is definitely down, but I don’t expect it to stay where it is unless I am very careful…but my appetite is off a bit, so we will see.
@ccco, that was a funny story about changing tires. I agree, that even if I could have removed a tire, I certainly could not have tightened the lug nuts holding it on, and I always feared the same thing: a tire rolling away as I drove off! Roadside assistance is our friend!
@stitchincarol, a belated happy birthday to you. The other day in my office, one of my medical assistants , who is in her 30’s, was telling the other girls that her mom just had a birthday and was 54. And I realized I could be her mother’s mother! Oh well, every day is a blessing…
@funshipfreddie, our scales can sometimes surprise us in a good way, can’t they. You seem like a pretty dedicated faster, so I am not surprised.
@jaifaim, your technique of sampling the offerings of your holiday feast is a good one. I does the least damage, and you don’t feel deprived!
@iona72, I hope the wallpapering was completed without incident!
@missybear, your description of being “pinned to the sofa” is what is happening to me now, as I am taking care of my daughter’s little dog, and he insists on sitting on the couch in the mornings, and you have to sit with him…and in just a certain position. He is very strict.
@northgeorgia, I hope you survived your roundtable intact!
Resolve to the fasters!
Day 13 – Ireland – CD 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽♀️ 🌾
156.3 ⬇️
Happy Friday everyone!
I am proud of myself for not going mad yesterday but really enjoyed a delicious early cooked breakfast (just protein and veg) and full Christmas dinner and desserts in work. Didn’t take huge portions but tasted most everything except what I couldn’t have but most was GF (no stuffing, pudding or cake but that’s just as well). Not much was done in the afternoon as wine was also on offer… I didn’t partake but everyone else did 😂
And so glad that even though it’s minuscule there is a teeny tiny drop today… ⬇️
Thanks everyone for the support!! I am going to really really try to budge away from the 156s ⬇️ next week when I’ve a little less on.
@ccco, on your PC do you have an Alt Gr key near your space bar? If you press that and “a” you will get “á” 😊 (and the same with the other vowels). If not there are other ways… and on your phone or iPad/tablet just hold the character down for a few seconds and you will see all the options áàAä etc… speaking of umlauts.. where is @snowflake56?? Hope you are out there and keeping well 💕
I don’t have much more chat today as my head is full of lists and thoughts but will be back on later or in the morning.
Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕
Day 13 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.8 kgs
Well, I’m gob-smacked?! I was expecting to be a lot closer to 73 kgs. I’ve broken every rule in the book this week. Obviously I’m not complaining. But it’s just weird. Not quite like when you’re trying to lose but the number doesn’t go down, even though you know you’ve done everything right. But equally baffling. Anyway, no egg fast necessary, but back to being on my best behaviour; & no more buying enormous bars of chocolate just because it’s 50% off 🤪
@excelsior12309 – I hope you’re fully recovered by now? That’s horrible, even worse when it happens during the night. So you finish up losing sleep on top of everything else.
@stitchincarol – that’s a funny story! But, so lucky you got your tyre changed. I’ve only ever had to change one, so far 🤞🤞
@merryapple – I hope you’re okay, & not being too merry?! 😅
@ccco – my dad also showed me how to change a tyre when I was in my teens. I never got a flat until I was in my 30’s though. I was on my way home from work one night, after 8 pm on the highway, pitch-dark & in the middle of nowhere. It was horrible. Long story short, when I went to replace it the next day the guy at the tyre place asked me, “where’s your spare wheel?” So I told him, “I told you, I got a flat”. He looked confused, but then it gradually dawned on me that I should’ve kept the flat ‘tyre’, instead of leaving it on the side of the highway. I thought the metal bit in the middle was all part of the tyre, duh?! People just assume you know these things 🤦♂️
Happy Fri-yay the 13th y’all 🍹
“Managing your weight around the holidays just requires a little planning….For example, I took the batteries out of my scale yesterday”. ~ Unknown
Evening!
Dave- nice to have the speedway season ticket bought, & you can look forward to going again next year! I love Home Alone & the Die Hard Christmas film, but that’s it, haven’t watched any others…What did you get for Denise?
Jean- shame about your Christmas dinner! It’s nice to not have the work but I’m sure your food will be nicer when your visitors come.
Hemmy- did you find a wreath? And hope you had a nice day out…
Had a lovely catch up with a friend this morning, popped to Mum’s to drop cake off expecting her to be out, but she was in tears, missed a Christmas meal as she couldn’t get a lift, we would’ve taken her, she usually goes with friends! She’s got so stressed over everything but finally let me help her, so we got her cards all sorted, she seemed better by the time I left, it was really upsetting seeing her that bad though, I wish she’d accept she needs some help 😢
On a positive note, I’ve lost another half a pound, & missed lunch as I was so busy with mum!
USA. Day 12. FD
Today I felt a little heavier, so I thought I would weigh myself. Yup! I shouldn’t have had the glass or two of wine last night, I am up two lbs. The holidays are a difficult time to lose weight but I intend to at least hold on to what I’ve lost, even if the holiday gets a little in the way of a loss. FUNSHIPFREDDIE, I like your Jordan Belfort phrase. I think it is very true.
Stitchincarol, I didn’t realize yesterday was your birthday. Happy belated birthday or as Jaifaim might say: La breithe shona dult! I wish I knew how to put in the inflection marks on my computer! LOL I am sorry you had to get a flat tire on your birthday. That’s a bummer!
Pocket List – Day 12 🥑
@merry🍎
@funshipfreddie
@missybear
@stitchincarol WFD
@ccco
Today, I deem as my RFD, otherwise know as my radical fast day! It’s an effort to get rid of those two acquired pounds before they turn into 4, etc.! 👍🏻
Stitchincarol, when I was in my late teens, my father had it in his mind that all his children should learn to change a tire, both daughters and sons! I learned all those years ago but always had in mind that I would not have the strength to tighten those screws enough, so that the tire wouldn’t go flying off when I was driving on some highway somewhere. Fortunately, I never had to change a tire myself. Now the way tire are put on new cars, I don’t see how anyone but a professional could fix them. My solution is that I always carry my AAA card. I never leave home without it! LOL
Excelsior12309, I am so sorry for you. That must have been painful! And had to happen during the holidays! ☹️ Feel better quickly!
Northgeorgia, Good luck with your roundtable. I am trying my best to keep away from talking much about politics these days! I am burnt out!
MissyBear, your brunch and dinner sound like an excellent choice!
I better get on with my day! I hope everyone is having a good one! 😊
Been to speedway for season tickets, met up with friends. Then took Peter to Sainsbury’s to buy Christmas presents for Denise as got Christmas film on the telly just for a change 🤪🙄 Sometimes I get hooked on them 😄.
Afternoon All…
Walked in the country park this morning with Andrea, it’s easy as Oreo can go straight off his lead. Andrea is so tiny he is very strong for her, meeting up there tomorrow too.
Xmas lunch was ok, very busy over a hour to wait, it was all pre ordered so it should have been quicker.
I have booked premier inn for Louise and Sheila for lunch on Tuesday but I am going to cancel and I will do something here. The food is not good when it’s gets so busy, you forget.
I have been shopping got some more Xmas bits, Charlie’s frozen veg stuff, grouse whiskey .. few things for when Sheila and Louise come.
Veg very cheap at Lidl next week .. 15p a bag of most veg.. looks like Charlie shopping again!!😂
Hemmy..
Hope you find your door wreath, I like to look really, on line you never know the quality you are getting. Enjoy your day with Pam.
Dave..
Hope you get your season pass and meet up with your friends.
Hedgehog..
Hope your son soon gets his contract, it would be nice before Xmas.
Sounds like he found your sink problem hope it’s sorted.
