  • I’ve been on low carb for about 1.5 years. I feel great and my metabolic numbers are amazing, however I never really lost that much weight, probably because I’ve overindulged in nuts ever since graduating from induction. I started the Fast Diet about 4 weeks ago, while maintaining low carb. The pounds are melting away, and it’s nearly effortless! I really can’t believe the results, and they show no sign of abating. The effort required on fast days is minimal – in low carb, you eat or should eat tons of fresh green vegetables, which have next to no calories. If I get hungry on a fast day, I grab a bunch of broccoli and that carries me until the next meal. It’s so easy! I wish there were some way to inform obese people about this – with all of the nonsense diets out there, this one that really works get lost in the shuffle. Good luck to all!

Hi Lighter! Thx for the post. Can you tell me what you mean by low carb? Are you eating any bread, rice, potatoes at all? Would you mind describing a fast day and non fast day as to what you are eating? I have 7 to 10 pounds to go and not budging! 🙂

Hi desp, by “low carb” I mean Atkins. I’m absolutely convinced that we were not designed for carbs. There is very substantial evidence that low carb is inhibitory to cancer. Essentially, the purpose of Atkins is to encourage your body to use fat for energy instead of carbs. The induction phase, which lasts a week or two if memory serves, is very severe – you can’t even have onions! After that, you phase in various foods like nuts, which have some carbs. You must say goodbye permanently to bread, potatoes, pasta, sweets of all kinds, etc. It sounds harsh, but honestly, I LOVED bread and, as a former vegetarian, ate tons of pasta. It’s not difficult once you’ve been on it for awhile. Re daily diet, you’ll find it funny, but I typically have some sort of salad for all three meals. Mornings are kale, coriander, turkey breast, mayonnaise, flax seed meal, and cinnamon. On fast days, less mayo and flax. Lunch is broccoli and hummus, on fast days much less hummus. Dinner is some sort of salad (tuna, sardine, etc.) or perhaps cauliflower, mushrooms, pasta sauce, and parmesan. Fast day, tuna salad. Here’s an interesting video about low carb and cancer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fM9o72ykww

Yikes! So no bread ever? I don’t think I could do that! I would be better on an all carb diet! 🙂 what about low carb bread? I love these 80 calorie chia bagels. Only 7 grams carb and 11 grams protein. That’s a no no too?

Sounds like that would work after induction!

I did Atkins years ago after having a baby and it worked. Problem was it wasn’t sustainable for me…I also think doing it while 5-2 might be extremely difficult but maybe will attempt phase 2. That might be doable on off days. 🙂 only one chia bagel per day!
