  • Hi new mommies,

Who wants to join me in getting fitter and slimmer on 5:2 with a baby in tow?!
I had my little one in June 2014 so now have a very active 15 month old on my hands. Put a lot of weight on during my pregnancy and struggled to lose it until starting 5:2. Started in April and have lost a stone and a half.

My motivation does waver sometimes so I thought starting a thread and being accountable to a group would be a good way to keep strong. If anyones interested add a comment with a bit about you and your baby and your weight loss aims.

Hi! I had my baby boy in March this year. I was slightly overweight before I became pregnant but somehow I managed to lose a small amount of weight – or at least maintain my weight – while I was pregnant. Must have been all the morning sickness! Since then though I seemed to have been slowly gaining a little bit (despite being told that breastfeeding sheds calories!) and definitely still have a tummy pouch which I am keen to get rid of. I am hoping to lose about 2 stone in total. Started the 5:2 two weeks ago and have lost maybe a pound or 2 so far. My partner is doing it as well which makes it a lot easier as we come up with creative ideas for dinner together and it means I don’t have to put up with with watching him shove his face with food while I starve!

    Hi Catrin,

I was slightly over weight before getting pregnant too. I find 5:2 really good and it’s chnaged my way of thinking about food. I do it with my husband and he’s lost 2 stone so far. Definitely easier when you’re doing it as a household.

I think this would be a great way to get support and reach our goals. We’ll do it together! You’ve made a great start.

    Laura

    I’m in!

I have a toddler and a 5 month old. I was overweight for both unfortunatly :-(. After I had my first child, I was using MFP to track calories and lost a stone and a half in 4/5 months. I’d put half of it back on after I gave birth to my second child.

I need to get fit and lose weight. I was quite slim all my childhood but my student years and things like depression really piled on the pounds.

I’m currently looking to lose about 4 stone. I am in my second week of 5:2 and its going well. I’m eating about 1800 calories on none fast days, and have lost 2lbs so far. x

That’s a fantastic start! These babies do wreak havoc with our bodies. I’m hoping to get to my ideal weight before trying for baby #2 and then keep up exercise and eating healthy (not fasting obviously) throughout my next pregnancy. I basically ate nothing first trimester then a lot of chocolate and cake for two trimesters.

I’ve done a variety of things over the last year but 5:2 has been the mot effective. X

    -THE PLAN

Ok ladies, we’re a small group at the moment but we’re going to be a great one!

What I suggest is we each weigh in once a week and share our results. (Good or bad). This will be great for motivation. I’m going to suggest Friday weigh in. Then if you want a little treat on Saturday you can at the start of your 5:2 week. This has worked well for me. I fast on either a mon/tues then a Thursday but you choose the days that are best for you.

Ok, I’ll start the ball rolling.
    Current weight 12 stone 8
I will weigh in on the morning and let you know what I’ve lost (hopefully) or gained.

Great idea! I will weigh myself tomorrow morning and post it on here.

My main struggle isn’t with the fast days but actually on the non-fast days I think I have been eating too much naughty stuff! Do you still eat healthily on non-fast days or do you just eat ‘normally’? At the weekend my partner and I were tucking into pizza and beers and then realised we were probably defeating the object of the 5:2 by making up for all the lost calories on the fast days! So I think that is something I am going to have to combat next week…

    Fab Catrin!

To be completely honest (which I think we should be) I eat healthy and try and make good choices most of the week. I allow myself some indulgence either friday night or saturday. For me its an Indian takeaway and wine 🙂

The good thing about 5:2 for me is its made me more conscious about eating. The longer you do it and the more successful you are it spurs you on. For example if you’ve worked hard to lose 3 lbs in a week, you won’t want to spoil it by going mad all weekend.

Ive had a bad couple of weeks over summer with extra going out but am really motivated now to be strict on the run to christmas.

I will speak to you in the morning. Good luck!

Hey ladies can I join you? I have two little ones, a 4 year old and a 22month old. I was really big during both pregnancies and weighed in at 18st6 at my heaviest (not when I was pregnant), I lost a couple of stone after having my youngest but found it really hard to stick to anything for more than a month or two. I started 5:2 last October weighing 15st13 and today I weigh 11st7, I want to ideally get down to about 150lb (10st10) at 5ft7 with quite a big build I am hoping that will make me a slim size 12 which I would be more than happy with x

    Of course 🙂
It sounds like you’ve done fantastically well already!

I was in the 15’s after having my lo last year and am now in the 12’s as you can see from my previous post. I also want to get back to about 10 stone 7 which I was in my early twenties. Thats my final goal which I keep in my mind but I find it better to have short term goals i.e. every six weeks say “what do I want to be?”

Glad you’re joining us. We’re going to share our weights weekly with each other for motivation. See THE PLAN post above 🙂

Thanks Laura, I also set myself small goals on the way but had the ultimate goal when I started of getting down to 11st6 which would bring me into the healthy bmi range and be exactly 7 stone less than what I weighed at my heaviest but now I am there I know I need to lose more to be truly healthy and happy, perhaps 10st10 won’t be low enough but that’s my next aim and when I get there I suppose I will decide. I am good with a Friday weigh in, my fast days change every week, I like to keep the, flexible x

Wow you’ve done so well – good work! Very inspiring.

I am 5″6 and currently weigh 12st 9 so am well into the ‘overweight’ BMI range. Looking to go down to about 10 and a half stone. Fingers crossed the 5:2 will work because it’s the only diet I’ve got on with! Time will tell…

I fast Mondays and Thursdays. I do try to eat well on the other days but weekend is my nemesis. Usually fridays actually, we like a couple glasses of wine. I’ve ditched the takeaways. I find what I eat on none fast days can make a huge difference to my fast days, like eating more fiber etc. Sugar and chocolate are my old friends but literally do nothing for me haha.

I can’t tell you just how much I abused my body in my early adulthood, its shameful. I was around 11-12 stone but I am quite tall and had done athletics for a decade or so and had alot of thigh/leg muscle. Various home problems made me turn to food and drink and I went from being 11/12 to 19, in just over 5 years.

    Anyway no point dwelling in the past. My weight is not good but at least I know it and am on my way to changing it, so here’s my weigh in for today;

    Weight: 17.4
Total Loss since start (two weeks ago): 4lbs

Fantastic start nickr66. 4 lbs is a great loss to start off your journey. It takes a lot of courage to share your weight with others. I know I’ve kept mine underwraps for years but we’re here to help and support each other.

Ps. Do you mind asking me your name? I’m a bit old fashioned lol. Are you Nicky? If you prefer sticking to screen name that’s fine obviously. 🙂

    weight: 12 St 6
    2 lb loss this week

    Well done!!!

Yes my name is Nikki 🙂 x

    Good work both of you!

Weigh in this morning: 12st 7, so a 2lb weight loss this week which I’m really pleased with.

Now I just need to remember not to gorge over the weekend!

Thanks Nikki. Sorry for being out of touch. lol x

    Well done Catrin!

Surviving the weekend without doing too much damage! Remember the aim is still to eat within your tdee but for most of us its at the weekend when we socialise more with friends or family or want a treat like a takeaway.

Healthy swaps! Have a bit of what you fancy but still be mindful of what you’re eating and drinking. A few examples below:

    Half a cider 110 cal
A small glass of wine 90 cal
A gin or vodka and slimline tonic 56 cal

Half a container of egg fried rice 325 cal
Half a container of boiled rice 200 cal

    Beef curry 650 cal
sweet and sour battered chicken curry 550 cal
    Chow mein 350 cal

    Lamb rogan josh 600 cal
    Chicken bhuna 480 cal
    Tandoori chicken dry 400 cal

Thanks! I’m doing ok here. Went for a 2 mile walk this morning and feeling good. I’ve noticed a lift in my mood these last few days now that I don’t eat as much, surprising because I usually use food to do just that!

Hi, please can I join you?! I have a 3 year old and a 6 month old. Looked in the mirror this morning and thought that today has to be the day I stop eating the family sized bags of m & m’s… Everyday!!

I didn’t really put on much weight whilst pregnant but did exactly the same with both babies after they were born, I just ate and ate, I think because I was so tired and needed the sugar… But now I’m not up in the night no more excuses! I did the 5:2 after my first daughter was born and lost 2 and a half stone so would love to do that again.

    Jo x

Hi Jo, of course you are welcome! It’ll be difficult to start with as your body will need to adapt to not having so much sugar but you will feel so much better in the long run. After doing the 5:2 for nearly six months I still have vices but I don’t even go near chocolate bars and sweets. It’s about being aware of what you eat, healthy choices and when you work hard (fasting) you won’t want to spoil it on your other days.

We’re sharing our weight and weekly losses on a Friday. I only started this thread last week so we’re a new group. Welcome 🙂

Thanks, excited for weight loss (hopefully!) ahead! I think the lack of sugar will be hard but it will be worth it. Will post on Friday with my weight, going to do my first fast day tomorrow…

Weigh in day tomorrow ladies. Good luck 🙂

Hi Ladies! Hope you had a good week. Looking forward to your updates. Here’s my weigh-in this week. Was hoping for more but I’m still happy, as long as Im going in the right direction haha

    Weight: 17st 3lb
    Loss this week: 1 lb
    Total loss: 5 lb

Well done Nikki! Slow and steady is the best way 🙂

I’ve lost my naughty 3lbs from holiday so can now focus on losing more for Christmas.

    Weight: 12 stone 5
    Loss this week: 1 lb

Great work ladies! Disappointingly I don’t seem to have lost anything this week – still 12st 7lb. Annoying as I tried extra hard this week to eat really healthily on my non-fast days. Never mind! My boyfriend says I look a bit slimmer but maybe he’s just being nice!

    Hi everyone

Well done on the losses and Catrin I’m sure all your hard work will pay off in the next weigh in. I had so many weeks last time I did it when I didn’t loose anything in a week but did the week after!

Ok so I’m 10 st 10 this morning. Not sure really how to view this as I only weighed myself on Monday and I was 11st 1 so it’s not a full week. I fasted on tues and yesterday so haven’t had many normal non fast days! Think I will start properly on logging losses next fri when I have a full week to count weight from.

I def feel less bloated though so it’s all positive! Have to say I found the first day of fasting horrific! The last time I did the 5:2 I was back at work after my first and so did my fast days at work which was easier, so tempting at home to pick at things and also more tiring running around after the kids.

    Jo x

Sounds like a great start jo, well done. And Catrin don’t worry about sticking for a week I stick from time to time. Sometimes I find I’m not drinking enough and that can make me stick. I try when I’m being good to drink lemon water regularly throughout the day. Staying hydrated is important.

I look after my little one full time so I totally get the temptation to eat snacks out of the cupboard! Or finish his tea lol.

Have a good weekend everyone! X

    Hi!! My weight today;

    Weight: 17st 1
    Loss this wk: 2 lbs
    Overall loss: 7lbs

Thrilled with the results this week. Have a great weekend x

    Well done!

I am 12st 6 today so lost another pound making my overall loss 3lbs in a month which I am very pleased with.

    Well done ladies!

Hope you’ve all had a good week 🙂
    My weight: 12 stone 4
    Loss this week: 1lb

If anyone is looking for a healthy tasty breakfast I tried a Jamie Oliver recipe this week and it was yum. Toasted rolled oats, Greek yogurt and reduced blueberries with a drizzle of honey. It comes in less than 300 cal and is warm and full of goodness.
Enjoy your weekend. Keep up the good work bs see you next week xx

Well done everyone… Now we can enjoy the weekend!

My weight this morn 10st 8
So a loss of 2lbs this week which I’m really pleased with.

    Have a good week

    Jo x

Morning everyone, hope you’ve all had good weeks.

No loss for me this week which is annoying but I know happens so fingers crossed for next week!

    Weight 10st 8

    Jo x

    Hey ladies,

A bit disappointed as I put a pound on this week. I was a bit too indulgent at family weekend last weekend and obviously didn’t work it off!

It’s fine to have the odd bad weight loss week if you’re in it for the long game. So on onwards and upwards! Or is that downwards on the scale at least lol.

Aim to lose 2lbs next week. Hope you’ve had more success!

    current weight 12 stone 5

    Morning ladies,

Sorry to hear about your disappointing weeks. We will all experience weeks where we plateau or gain a pound or 2 but I suppose its about not getting put off and making sure you stay motivated! I’m sure you will see better results next week 🙂

This morning I am 12st 4lb so a loss of 2lb this week, meaning I have lost around 5lb so far. Getting closer and closer to being under 12 stone – somewhere I haven’t been in years!

    Catherine x

No loss here this week. I had one over indulgent day at a wedding 🙁 ah well, progress not perfection! Have a great weekend x

    Well done Catrin!

Hope everyone is having a good week. I’m fasting tomorrow. Actually looking forward to it. Planning on having grilled chicken with chilli and garlic aubergine and a couple of sweet potato wedges for tea. Aubergines are so low cal but are really filling.

Speak to all on Friday xx

Stayed the same this week. Had a really good week on paper and have taken my measurements and have lost some inches since three weeks ago.

Feel like I’ve hit a bit of a plateau as I’ve reached my pregnancy weight and I was this weight for a long time. I may need to do something a bit more drastic to kick start more weight loss. Id still like to lose another stone or two but I haven’t been that weight for nearly ten years!
Considering doing a 4:3 week. That means I would fast mon/wed/thursday. Any thoughts? Has anyone ever done it?
Good luck with your weigh ins.
    Current weight 12 stone 5.

    Hi everyone

Weight today 10st 7 so a loss of a pound this week.

Laura, I would say that if the inches are coming off then it is working although I know how annoying it is when the scales don’t move! I guess if you did 4:3 then it would definitely give the weight loss a boost, how do you feel about fasting 2 days in a row? I was actually thinking I might have to do this next week but not sure I have the will power! Why don’t you try it for a week and see how the scales react? If it’s too much you could always go back to 5:2? Nothing to lose (although that feels like the wrong phrase to use!) x

Laura I might join you in a 4:3 next week as I only managed one fast day this week because I’ve been down visiting my parents and its been difficult to maintain my normal schedule! I think I am 12st 4 so the same as last week, but this might be wrong because I have used different scales. Will check when I get home. x

I’ve thought about it over the weekend and definitely going to do 4:3 this week. Fingers crossed with a bit of extra will power I can get a loss.
Did buy some new clothes in a smaller size in Saturday which made me feel good.

Have a good week everyone. Good luck catherine if you do 4:3 too. Speak on Friday x

    Friday weigh in everybody 🙂

I did my first 4:3 this week to ensure weightloss. I’ve lost 2 lbs which I’m happy with a new lowest weight. I’m not planning on doing this every week. To be honest, it was a bit depressing but it’s given me a kick start. Going to have a sensible weekend and hopefully 5:2 will work next week.
Hope you’ve all had a good week. Try to share losses and updates if you can. Xx

    Current weight 12 stone 3
    Weekly loss 2 lb

Well done Laura! Glad the extra fast day paid off 🙂

I have put on a pound – back up to 12st 5lb which is a bit annoying but I did expect it after skipping a fast day last week. Oh well!

Hi everyone, thought I had posted on Friday but obvs failed to press th submit button!!

Well done Laura on surviving three fast days! Must have been hard but glad it paid off.

    I was 10st 6 on Friday so a 1lb loss.

I have my daughters christening on Sunday so I’m going to try to be REALLY good this week. Hoping I can get rid of 2 lbs although I had a bit of a heavy weekend so not sure I will do it! Fast day today for me and probably for a few of you too so hope it’s going well x

Morning! How has everyone done this week?

I’m weighing in at 12st 3lb this week, so a 2lb weight loss this week, meaning a 6lb weight loss overall! Pretty happy with that.

Now just to survive the weekend. I have the girls coming down to visit which means lots of wine and lots of chocolate….

Sorry I missed friday weigh in we had a long weekend and didn’t get round to posting. I put a lb back on. I think I need to up my exercise as still very much on a plateau.

Well done catrin with your 2lb loss this week.

Have a good week everyone 🙂

    Current weight 12 stone 4

    Hi everyone

Hope you have all had good weeks.

Weight today is 10st 6 so no change. Feel like I have hit a bit of a wall this week, both fast days I have ended up messing it up at the end of the day. I think because I try and eat the same thing as my husband just a very small potion as I can’t be bothered to cook two separate things but then his larger portion and carbs look far more appealing! Going to really try next week! Also I think try and do more exercise. Have you managed to do that Laura? Do you think it motivates you more?! Was thinking of doing the 30 day shread as a friend did it and looks amazing and I can do it while the little one is asleep…. Or awake, I’m sure she would find it funny to watch! Hope you have all had a successful week x

    Hi girls,

I hope I am not too late to join your group??

I had my baby boy in December…I just keep putting off dieting – I went back to full time work in May and thought I could get myself into a routine. I think my main reason for gaining weight is because my husband works shifts so some nights I don’t see the point in just cooking for myself so I will just snack on toast/sandwiches/crisps/biscuits etc…it’s not good!

I think this diet is the one for me, I just need to be organised about what days I do and hopefully I can keep on track with the support of you ladies!!

I have managed to shift and keep off weight but I have got stuck at the 12 Stone 7lbs and I really want to be 11st.

    Katie xxx

    Hi ladies and welcome Katie,
I just read my original post from September when I started this group and feel I have lost some of that motivation and enthusiasm over the last two weeks. Apologies for not being a great group leader!

Katie, I’m in the same kind of place stuck in mid 12 stone and would love to get to 11. If you’re just starting 5:2 you’ll probably get a good weightloss as its a shock to your system. Not in bad way just because you’ve made a change. My advice would be plan your meals. I plan Mels for fasting and none fasting days to help with shopping etc but if you don’t do this its good for knowing cals before you eat. Make sure you’ve calculated your tdee (none fast days max) then divide by four for your fast day cak max. Drink lots of water (enriched water and herbal teas are great).
Jo, I understand the temptation of carbs! I stayed the same this week too. Ive recalculated my tdee using calculator on this site and should really be aiming for 450 cals on fast days. I was still working off my old information. Might be worth checking yours.
This week in doing 5:2 trying to stick to 450 cals and also trying to not eat until lunch so good consumption is closer together and in fasting for longer. (Some people call it 16:8)

Sorry for really long post. Have a good week x
    Still 12 stone 4
