  • HannahWatto – lovely post, thank you.
In Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life, she says that overweight is our way of protecting ourselves – the extra weight acts as our protection so we need to address what we are protecting ourselves from.

    Day 13. Sussex. U.K.
    FD.
Hope everyone can enjoy their day today.

    Day 13. Essex uk

A first low day for me. I’ve done 6 weeks on the 5:2 and for the last 2 weeks I’ve not budged in weight. 142lb again today. I don’t know whether today should be a FD or NFD. I’m feeling that I almost can’t see the point either way. It’s not just the diet, life ‘stuff’ has been draining the life out of me and it’s reached its climax today. I’m tired. So, I think I’ll get my head straight today. Get my house clean & tidy, do the day. I’m going Eat healthy food and just stop getting my knickers in a twist. Tomorrow is a brand new day.

Have a good Thursday all. X

    Day13 Portugal
Second FD this week, hoping to do 4:3 this week.
Yesterday’s NFD was not great – will give scales a break for today and weigh in tomorrow.
Just completed a killer upper arm workout. It looked easy but was far from it. Going swimming with my 13yr old today so will get in a few lengths/laps.

    NZ, Day 13, FD
Have done water only day & been for 30min run tonight (only 2nd exercise for week – improvement needed there!).
There are dinner left-overs from family still sitting on bench that smell delicious & driving me crazy!! Need to get them packed away & into fridge asap. Started trying to calculate 500 cal meal so I could have some & then decided I couldn’t be bothered & will just go water only the whole way through. I’d probably go way over 500 once I got started, so trying to resist completely.
Weigh in on Sat morning so will try keeping tomorrow clean & healthy food & get moving after work/school pick-up.

    Take care all. Xxx

    Australia, day 13, FD

Tweed Coast Australia / Day 13 / NFD

    Doing well. Am happy!

    Australia, Day 13, FD

    Day 13 Italy – FD
Feeling strong today, and hoping to nail a FD after a few failed attempts. Yesterday was a good day for me, I ate to my TDEE with lots of veg and healthy choices.
HannahWatto loved your post, a whole necklace of pearls of wisdom! Hope it helps you and others of you.
Bajlish stay strong you will see results if you keep to it. Lots of us keep hold of weight to then let it go when our body is ready.

    Forgot to add:-
Adaline is doing another challenge on junk food. From 15 October to 15 November, with a daily post registering whether you have eaten junk food or not. Her other challenges have been too complicated for me but, I think this could be a useful tool to make myself more aware of the rubbish I eat especially when trying too fast.

    Australia Day 13 NFD
Finally lost some weight after my second fast for the week. Want to keep going in this direction! Was a bit sad to notice that I’m exactly the same weight today as I was this time last month, though I then lost another kilo before putting the three kilos back on while on holiday and now having to work hard to lose them again. At least I’m heading in the right direction and would really love to get even slightly below where I was last month. Hopefully that’s achievable.
    Good luck everyone.

Good Morning All, USA, Missouri Ozarks – Day 13 – Non Fasting Day

    Weigh in Day – 147 – last week’s weight 149, starting weight 153.
Very pleased, has not been difficult at all and I feel great.

Will have to read back and catch up on posts later today, headed out to shop (and lunch) with friends.

    Enjoy your day all.

Bajlish, I hope you are having a better day today.

Sometimes just taking a deep breath and doing what can be done helps.
Cleaning is always cathartic to me as well.

    Sussex UK Day 13 NFD
Still all going ok. Meeting a friend for coffee later then more cake making!
Going to family for the weekend and sister’s birthday – my family are serious carb-fiends so I will need to plan what I eat while I’m there.
    Keep smiling O&D

    Day 13 South Florida FD
did the 21 day fix Dirty 30 work out this morning
I’ve not done 2 fast days in a week yet so this will be my ‘first second’ lol
    Have a great day everyone!!

US mountain west, day 13, NFD. 133 LBS. Workout with weights. I noticed I made a typo in an earlier post when I said my bmi was 33.3. It was supposed to be 23.3. Now it is 22.8. I’m glad I’m making progress, even though slowly. It’s just frustrating how my metabolism has screeched to a crawl. Eating half as much and exercising more than in younger days.

    Day 13|FD|Toronto

    Georgia/USA/Day 13/FD:

Looking forward to a good fast day. I’ve got my pickles with me at work today! LOL! Gonna have a low calorie meal for lunch and then we’ll see. I don’t usually do dinner on my FD’s. Mostly just snack on pickles and have a light lunch. I did prepare a low calorie meal for dinner just in case! Have an awesome day everyone!

UK. Day13 FD today but then tomorrow I’m going on a lovely girly spa weekend with friends, think food will be OK it’s the G&Ts that will cause the damage !but I’m aiming to be super good from Monday and give the back end of the challenge a serious go

Fuvvie -may not be able to post til Monday X

    Day 13 | Ohio, USA | FD

130.6 lbs (59.2 kg), according to my new slightly-higher-but-more-accurate scale

@Lael that “window” for goal weight makes a lot of sense.

    @bajlish hang in there!

Glad to have a FD today and will make this day about broth and vegetables later. My weight is a little higher than I was hoping, but it’s been a good week food and exercise wise. Trying to focus on this as a “long game.”

    Have a good day all.

Day 13 New Jersey USA FD flew in yesterday went out for an incredible Portuguese dinner before taking the kids to the airport as they’re on vacation and we’re at their house babysitting their dogs. Between flying in and getting settled never got around to eating yesterday until dinner and definitely was over-indulgent! Portuguese fried potatoes are the best but looking forward to my fast day today to see if I can make up for any damage I did yesterday. My new thought is I only weigh in one day week and hopefully the not seeing daily up and down will keep me on the right path. Have to go food shopping in the next couple of days for address for the family wedding next week and I’m looking forward to see how things will be fitting. Have a good day everyone

    Day 13. Wisconsin. USA.

FD. The week is going well.

Bajlish. I have read that our body’s response to stress can compromise our weight loss.I don’t understand it completely. I know that hormones are involved. And, also a bioligical signal our body misinterprets to mean it should hold on to calories and store fat for pending emergency. No!!!! Please don’t. 🙂

I hope all of us experiencing life struggles will find ways to help us cope and relax. Life can be a minefield.

Texas, Day 13.Still struggling to fast. But good news – I went to gym again after 2 month of laziness. 🙂

    Day 13 Calgary, Canada FD
Bajlish, I feel your pain… I thought my weight wasn’t budging because my scales were stuck.. lol Got new $175 scale and it went down 3 lbs.. yeah but now I am the same weight for the last 3 days…aarrggg
I guess I need to read up a bit more on TDEE. I am having a hard time eating all the calories I get for TDEE, is that my trouble? I have always been a clea eating vegetarian who liked way too much chocolate, patries and wine, but I have been so good for 3 months now, not having any of the above and eating very clean and around 1300 cals each day, give or take… and the weight has been coming off slowly, very slowly.
Now 4 weeks on FD even slower.. so I am doing something wrong, could it be that most NFD I am getting 1300 cals when my TDEE says I should be around 1700+?

Sorry I missed my posting yesterday, like Bajlish life just got in the way…

    Dubai Day 13 NFD

Yesterday day 12 was a FD

    Weight 61.2kg today

    Day 13|FD|Bucks UK

I’m cold and I want to eat because I’m cold.. but I won’t.
Depending if the scales is in good mood tomorrow, I’ll decide whether to make this week a 4:3

Hi Missy, when I’m feeling like that I make a cup of miso soup. Really takes the edge off hunger. It comes in single serve sachets of about 44 cals. Make yourself a hot water bottle (sometimes my house is so cold, I shove one up my jumper!) Or have a bath and a mug of ginger tea with real slices of ginger mmm I’m feeling warm already!

Day 13: Gloucestershire, UK: Non-fast day.
Trying not to overeat. I was very busy at work (the mail was very heavy and our PDAs wouldn’t upload our “routes” either, which made scanning our parcels very tricky….we had to ad-hoc). While out at work, I couldn’t eat any more than the carefully planned packed breakfast I had with me, ha…ha! I didn’t get home until about 3pm, so I admit I have eaten quite a bit since then, I’m afraid. Will plan for a 2nd fast day tomorrow to make up.
    Good luck all, for today.

    Day 13, Brussels, FD

Was suppose to do a 500 cal fast today, but was so busy at work that I did not have time for lunch, thus I think I’ll make this another water fast. Official weigh in tomorrow and I’m hoping for a good number before going away for the weekend!

Fuvvie; I’ll check in tomorrow morning to note my weigh for the week, and then hopefully Sunday evening when I’m back to leave a report on how it went food wise over the weekend.

Good luck to all of you!

Hi all UK day 13 NFD

Hannah – what a great post – I am glad you seemed to get a lot of the forum you attended. A few points really stood out for me too and which would apply for many things in life. I hope this helps with your situation and gives you a new perspective, resolve and strength to carry on. Just don’t carry around the weight of everyone else’s troubles.

Bajlish – did you see my post to you yesterday? You may be unfortunate enough to be one of those people who only loose after a few weeks of not moving at all. When I look at my tracker i see periods of up to 3 weeks where there was no movement but then a dip. What I ask people when they say they feel like giving up is – what exactly is the alternative? You have to keep the faith – you are being a friend to your body by not feeding it junk, it will reward you by letting go of the fat. Think of this as a learning curve in getting to know your body, its likes and dislikes. It will take a bit of time and effort but well worth it. We are always in a hurry – just take a deep breath and carry on. It can be frustrating especially when you read of people having a steady weight loss but you don’t know about the trials they may have had. As long as you are keeping to the plan and not drinking too much Ovaltine (which I believe, btw, is high in sugar and malt which may cause insulin to spike which is best avoided). How many dried dates would you eat – while a healthy food, one medjool date has about 66 calories and while I try not to calorie count I think you need to have some information in case we are fooling ourselves. Say if you had 4 dates and one cup of Ovaltine that is almost a days fd allowance at 464 cals with not much to show for it. Have you tried keeping a record on MFP just to give an idea if you are sticking to the plan? Maybe for the other things going on in your life some of the pointers in HannahW’s post may help. I hope you get them sorted as stress is a friend to fat as is tiredness. Deep breathing exercise can help with both stress and sleep. Please don’t give up.

HollyJ – had a look at at the junk food challenge – good luck I hope it helps but still way over my head lol.

Thanks Coda. I’ve had a sensible day and gotten my head into a much better place. I might not loose but not gaining is also positive. I drank the ovaltine as it has the nutrients but retrospectively, bad decision. I’m going to enjoy a quiet evening tonight & let advice & support soak in to keep going. I’m looking forward to a FD tomorrow. Back on track! Thanks all. X

    Day 13
    NFD

HannaWatto thanks for sharing. Very educational to ones well being.

Went to the baby shower party and ate lots of delicious finger food. My daughters and I really enjoyed the outing and party. Well tomorrow is a fast day and I’ll weigh myself on Saturday morning and hope for some loss or at least no gain.

I phoned my brother today who lives in New York as it is his birthday. He is three years older than myself and we frequently phone each other. I saw him last year in July.

Well good day/night everyone. Onwards and downwards.

Australia Day 14 NFD – well yesterday’s FD was blown out of the water when I got back to the office after running an errand and found a work neighbour had dropped off a lunch and a box of chocolates for me as a thank you for something I did for them. Most unexpected and kind and with everyone in the office looking at me I couldn’t turn it down. Oh well… I can’t do a FD today either as I have a client lunch so that means only one FD this week. Fingers crossed I somehow manage to trick the scales tomorrow!

Oh the other surprise eat yesterday – because my FD was blown anyway and because we had yet another meeting with the lawyers re the property resumption (we are being forced out by the government for one of its construction projects) we walked part of the way home and stopped at our favourite bar. We found out it was the owner’s birthday and so I slipped down to a nearby cinema to get him, Dan, a couple of tickets and a choc top ice cream to celebrate. It was only a small gesture but he was really touched by it and in turn surprised us by sharing a caramel, ricotta cheesecake someone else had given him. Deliciously sinful!

    USA Hawaii Day 13 NFD

Weight was NOT down after zero calorie fast day. Oh well . . .will try again on Saturday and look for good news on Sunday morning weigh in. This group makes me realize all I go through is not unique, just part of the journey. It’s worth sticking with it.

    USA Hawaii Day 13 NFD

Sorry, must have hit the submit twice

    Day 13 Cornwall UK
    NFD
Decided to write off this week, been so emotional and stressful. No weight loss!

Hanah such a helpful post, thankyou.

Bajlish. Hope youve had a better day. Life just isn’t easy sometimes.

    But we can stay strong!

    O & D.

    Day 13 USA (Illinois)

NFD for me today. My FD of yesterday went just fine with a salad and about 5 oz. of grilled steak. That is my treat on eating FD’s. Today, though, I am eating normally with cereal for breakfast and a chicken breast sandwich for lunch. Will have the other 1/2 of that steak with salad for supper. I am trying to keep my 160# as maintenance through the end of the year.

Missj2002 – I also get so cold on FD’s and was especially last evening. Our season is really getting to be autumn now, and my feet get cold. Instead of a hot water bottle, I have made a couple rice bags that I put in the microwave. A 2 pound bag from the grocery sewn into a cotton bag, heated 2 minutes, is such a nice treat. I sew a sack about 8″x10″ with a seam down the middle (making 2 baffles) then sew it shut. Hot broth, miso soup, or hot tea make such a difference too. Normally I love ice water (and they say it does burn up more calories than a hot beverage) except when I am getting so cold, the ice water is too much.

I do enjoy reading all the posts, and I am so glad we can support each other!

2nd post before I retire. Rocy65 hugs for you – you don’t seem yourself. I hope things pick up for you x

Goldensun how are things with you, did the meeting take place? I hope things work out for the best – did you see Hannahwatto’s post? The point about communicating was a good one. Though sometimes difficult to articulate when all the thoughts are going round your head. Writing them down sometimes help get things in order. Thinking of you x

    London | Day 13 | FD

Today was a success. Much easier than I thought. Over ate last night though because I was worried about today. I can live with it though 🙂

Curious about weighing in tomorrow. Don’t feel particularly light or slim this week. In fact I feel more filled out around the hips…we’ll see.

    Happy going everyone!

    Day 14 NFD NZ
Just broke my fast after 38hours.
Had under 500cal mini meal last night which I really need to help me sleep.
Weight this morning was up 600g but 3 hours after standing on the scale my ‘monthly visitor’ arrived and I already feel better.
Should have connected the dots…rounded belly, somewhat psychotic rant over the dirty dish sponge used to clean the bench leaving wet streaks and last but not least my certainty that I would have sold my Grandmother for a chocolate bar last night…& I was quite fond of Granny.
I only weigh once per week after a FD so I have a consistent true picture of my tracking, I’ll hope that next week I get a nice wee surprise when the hormonal madness settles back to my usual level of only slightly demented about the state of my benchtop.

    Perth, Australia, Day 14, NFD

2 weeks since the start of this challenge. I weighed myself this morning and the scales read 88.6, which is a 3.9kg loss for October and 4.2kg since I began 5:2,17 days ago.

FD went well. I’m doing liquid fasts regularly. Had a little trip up when I was collecting eggs. I unthinkingly picked a gooseberry as I hadn’t had one in ages. I don’t think that will break the bank but the momentary feeling of horror that I’d broken my fast was amusing.
Also went for a walk along the beach. Am making them a little longer every day. My 13.5 yo dog is loving it. He’s like a puppy again, gets very excited. He doesn’t have the stamina he used to but it isnt too bad while the weather isn’t too hot.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful Friday!

    UK Nottingham Day 14

NFD, still here still struggling, I’ve got a really terrible bout of ‘Man Flu’, which has knocked me out a bit. I don’t generally suffer with coughs and colds, but when I get one it’s a good one. This is why I am posting at the ridiculous hour 02.45am 😷😫

    Australia Day 14 nfd

    USA (Minnesota) Day 13 FD

    Croatia, Day 14, FD
    Weight: 76.5 Kg

    Day 14, Brussels, NFD

    Start weight: 65,5 kg
    Week 1: 65,2 kg
    Current weight: 64,2 kg
    Goal weight challenge 63 kg

This was an amazing week compared to last week. I’m well on tack to reach my October goal. Now I’m checking out for the weekend and will be back Sunday night or Monday morning.

Have a great weekend all of you!

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 14 FD: Hello all you wonderful 5:2ers. I have just spent a lovely hour or so reading through all the posts since 9pm last night my time. I saw Coda’s excellent post supporting Bajlish and second every word of it. Then I read Bajlish’s reply and the eyes welled up as they seem to do often reading posts. I can get quite emotional.
Rocy65, oh buddy of mine, this too shall past. Nothing is permanent, and you have shown yourself to have so much strength since I have met you in this cyber cafe. The doom and gloom that we often feel, and I have had lots of that lately as well, does lift and I can just see you getting on your bike and thrashing the blues away. Nothing like the endorphin rush to raise the happiness factor which then allows you to put things into perspective.
Lany36, you made me laugh even though what you are going through is no laughing matter. But I like your take on it.
Jayneyb69, Hope you are soon feeling better; the flu down under has been very nasty this year.

Weighed in at 105.7kgs this morning. So decided to extend my FD for another day. This is truly remarkable as I haven’t been able to do this since the July challenge and I’m still trying to get back to the 103.2 that I hit during that challenge. I’ve had massive fluctuations, almost as high as 108kgs during the past month and a half, so even though I have been vacillating, this thread is keeping me aware of where I want to go. So thank you everyone for the ongoing support. It is worth it. My friend and I talked our way through 3.6kms this morning. If my legs got as much exercise as my tongue when we get together, I have a body you would all envy. Alas, this is not the case.

I hope Clarkey24 comes back to us.

Also, another question. I notice a number of people leave a couple of days between posts. I’m wondering why? Do you find it too stressful to log in daily? I just love seeing you there when you do post, so please don’t take it as a criticism.

I really appreciated it when Yazcat let me know she had missed the previous day as it saved me going back to see if I had left her out. I know not to look for Frida tomorrow.

I haven’t seen Itsmytime78 since 6th. Hope all is well with you.
Is everything ok with you JoyT, as I last saw you 10th.
NicT, I last entered an NFD for you on the 4th. Maybe you have reached your goal weight? Would love to hear how things are going.
Moecho, are you entering weekly or has life got in the way. your goal was to lose 4lb. How’s that working out for you?
Scooterbug was with us till the 2nd. How are things in Bonnie Scotland? Is your goal to increase your exercise to 4 times per week working for you?
Sheba0518, I’ve only noted one visit from you. I hope all is well in Jacksonville Florida. I hope Hurricane Matthew did not affect you adversely.

Had better go and do some of that housework I promised I would get to. I’ve got another 1300 steps to go to reach my 10000 steps for the day. It won’t get done sitting here. I’ll check in later this evening. Cheers.

    Day 14. Essex uk. FD

Here goes! I’m actually pleased to be doing a FD. I’m mindful that I’m consuming less so what I do consume must be nutritious to ensure the diet doesn’t become bad for me rather than beneficial. I haven’t lost a single lb so far this challenge. But September I lost 5lb in 3 weeks (I didn’t start until 7th September). Ill persevere and learn from my less sensible decisions. If between now & 1st November my weight can be below 140lb/10st mark I’ll be over the moon. If not. The November challenge will see me continuing on the right path.

Wahoo! Friday is here. Happy Friday!!!!

UK day14 NFD Travelling a fair bit today and it’s a reflection in my change of eating habits, previously I’d load up with crisps & nibbles to pass the time on the train , this time I’m taking my kindle so I can re-read Michael Mosleys The Fast Diet to get some inspiration . I’m not going to be calorie counting this weekend but again feel better choices are now more ingrained, Catch up when I’m back Monday x
