  • Day 11 : NFD : Cheshire, UK

Really pleased with my FD yesterday. Only drank tea and water for the whole day but woke up early and just needed to eat an apple and pear :).

Will try and eat light today.

    @lindasue – thank you 🙂

MisGizmo – thank you. I was moved to tears. I felt your hug 🙂

@coda and Rocy65 – Again thank you. I decided that meeting him tonight would be too much. I have so much work over the next coupld of days, it would just put me under more stress. He understands and I’m meeting him Thursday :).

I, like most of you I imagine, am so used to putting others before me. My son is grown up but I still kinda jump when he needs or wants me. I learning to put myself first and consider my wellbeing for a change.

@moth54 – dont’ be too hard on yourself but it’s good to ask the question,’how muh do I want this?’. When we realise how much then somehow our Will gets behind our goal, whatever that may be. I feel it’s a case of reminding ourselves how much we want it. 🙂

@lany36 – small steps lead to a greater distance. I’m sure there is a better way of saying that but you get what I mean :). You’re going in the right direction where it will become second nature.

@Baglish – I swear by echinacea drops in water sipped throughout the day :).

    Have a great day everyone!

    Day 11 Italy – FD
    I weigh 75.5kg up .6kg
After a last minute dinner invite I have moved yesterday’s fast day to today. I’m determined to make it work.
HannahWatto so glad for your successful liquid Fast Day. As long as the good days outweigh the bad ones you’ll get where you want to be.

    Georgia/USA/NFD/Day11:

Yesterday’s fast day was good. I snacked on pickles to get me through the day. I’m up 3 lbs. since last month on some days and down 1lb. on others. Today I’m up 3. Does anyone else experience such drastic fluctuations in their weight. I’m trying not to let this get me down as there is plenty of time left in this challenge. Although my birthday is on the 21st, and I’d like to be at or below my goal weight of 195. Here’s to eating sensibly and healthy on this NFD. Just had a bowl of oatmeal. NowI’m headed to the gym.Good day to all!

    Australia Day 11 nfd

No loss after yesterday’s fd, but have really upped my exercise so that may have stalled the weight loss a bit, hoping there will be a loss soon. Fasting again tomorrow.

Day 11: Gloucestershire, UK: Another non-fast day.

UK day 11 NFD Feeling good to be back in control, and whilst I’d love the weight to drop off quicker, I’m not one of those people and it is a new way of eating that I’m learning ,this isn’t a quick fit diet that you can forget about once you reach target, this is for life .

    Australia, Day 11, FD

I ate lunch today after a 24 liquid fast, I was intending to eat dinner this evening but I wasn’t really hungry so closed the kitchen and toddled to bed for an early night.

    NZ, Day 11, FD
Late posting – has been very busy day which is perfect for FD. Home for half hour tonight after work, school pick up & girls swimming before heading out for meeting. Home very late – quickly posting before bed.
Will try & fast through till tomorrow arvo – water only.
Still not drinking enough water at work, drinking lots at night once home – drank lots last week while home for school holidays & felt great for it.
Read that water is what make’s your “skin” and “in’s” (insides) gorgeous – so every time I have a cup, I’ll think of it as a cup of gorgeousness. Off to drink a cup before bed.

    Take care all.

    Label.
Don’t be too hard on yourself – just remember you have an army of 5:2 sisters behind you. A thought – buy an good body cream and every time a jab or comment gets go you – take out your cream and as you rub it in picture the problem sliding rightt off you soft silky skin ♡

    Day 11, FD.

Woke up to a surprising low number this AM after the Thanksgiving festivities. Yay. I must be doing something right! Workouts and cardio are on track. That in itself is a WIN for me.

    Day 11 | Ohio, USA | FD!

Also Day 10 | NFD. Pardon for not posting yesterday. It was a work holiday, and I indulged in being mostly unplugged all day. I ate pretty well though and went to the gym. Very glad for a FD today — it’s been since last Wednesday.

One of the best things about intermittent fasting is that it really helps you become aware of when you’re actually hungry and when you’re just eating out of habit. And that you also don’t need to immediately eat the first moment you feel anything resembling hunger. Awareness building!

Day 11. Fla USA NFD down 1.2 lbs this week.
Reply I made was to Lael phone changed it to label. Sorry didn’t catch it.
Good fast day yesterday stayed with water coffee tea just feel good the day after a fast day sleep like a baby and get up with a positive happy state of mind. Even with the craziness of hurricane Matthew I am down 1.2 lbs this week. Flying home tomorrow for 10 days
to babysit my grand puppies and a family wedding.
Good mindset and positive actions will keep me on tract. I am visualizing coming home with weight loss!
As I shared earlier this week my little positive angel is
definitely sitting on my shoulder keeping me on the
right track – don’t understand it but I am taking the
time to think everything through whether it’s what I’m
doing what I’m saying or what I’m eating… new for
me. Have a great day everyone

Day 11| normally an NFD, may become an FD| Toronto
Back in town after a 3 day weekend in the country at a lake side, non wifi, cottage to celebrate our Thanksgiving. Amazing vibrant fall colours of red ,orange, gold and rust under crystal clear blue sky; took small walks to counter caloric minefields plus avoided some of the carbs and drank lots of water. End result, a great time with a .6 kls increase over 5 days ago which is “OK” for a post holiday reality check.
    Best wishes to all.

    Day 11 USA (Illinois)

NFD today – day yesterday was busy, and are pretty normally for a NFD. One glass of Cab at supper out with friends. I really do burn up calories directing a 2 hour choir rehearsal, so had a late snack as I watched my Cubbies battle in a late game on the West Coast.

Back2thefuture — Yes, after it went into the 10th inning, I gave up and slept. Congrats to your Giants in the “win or die” game!

GreatLakes — I agree how good this IF has been for me realizing I don’t have to get up and eat breakfast until noon if I am not hungry, for example. Awareness eating indeed.

GoldenSun — hugs that all will work out for you for the best.

    O & D!

Day 11 South Florida USA- NFD today. PiYo Buns workout 30 mins done.
    Weigh in you ask? = 146 lbs…
yea, i said it… 146!! fD yesterday AND I had the energy to work out this morning! w00t! – I wasn’t really ‘energized’ for the work out but i made a deal with myself that I could do ANY work out that i wanted instead of following the ‘calendar’ and doing the god forsaken Total Body Cardio. funny how ‘allowing’ myself to do something other than Cardio tricked my mind into thinking ‘cool! i can do THAT!’
    Have a FABULOUS day everyone!!!

Good Morning All, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Day 11. Fasting day, did great yesterday and plan the same for today. Don’t eat from 7 p.m. until 7 p.m. and then keep it to 500 calories or under.
Drinking hot lemon water, unsweetened tea, and lots and lots of water.

Got in all my planned exercise and a little extra.

Wishing you all a beautiful day, stunning Fall weather here.

Let me add that even as a life long St. Louis Cardinals fan – gotta root for our arch rivals the Cubbies ! Just gotta do it!

    Barbados, Day 11, NFD

Thank you all for your welcoming messages, great to see we have so much in common already! 🙂

Bajlish, I am 100% English too but my husband is Bajan, hence me living here!

Fuvvie, thank you for your message explaining how things are kept on track etc. I certainly need that! My current weight is 127kg (Shame! So ashamed, you have no idea how hard it was to write that knowing you can all see it!) But we are all here for one common purpose I guess and well, when I press send it is out there and no going back! I am aiming to get down to 70kg so just hoping this challenge goes beyond October 2016! 🙂

    London Day 11

Still have this bug and not feeling great at all. Missing my exercise but don’t have the energy to do anything but work and then go home and go to bed early 🙁

Hope to shake it off soon as I am missing my swimming and pilates.

Not sure what I doing today. I haven’t eaten yet so might do another fast day today.

Have a good evening one and all

    Day 11. Wisconsin, USA.

LindaSue. That is very kind of you to root for the Cubs. Thank you! 🙂 My family is not getting much sleep this week.

FD for me today. Lots of tea/water/coffee. I will have raw veggies and chicken broth with just a tiny bit of shredded chicken in it. Will have salad for dinner.

I have been listening to Dr. Berg on Youtube. He says that if you are nutrient deficient, you will not be able to burn fat optimally. He recommends 7-10 cups of vegetables a day. YIKES!!!

I have been trying to meet this requirement by making smoothies on NFD with a protein powder made with vegetables, and adding Kale and spinach.

Edzeko, you are very welcome. Enjoy the excitement, those late night West coast games are always killers, aren’t they? I have often gone to sleep and woke back up before they are over. Go Cubbies !

Clarkey, no reason to be ashamed at all, we are on this journey to better health together and all wish you the very best.

Surrey UK Day 11 NFD….going okay, been really busy, so checking in.

    Day 11 Hawaii, USA NFD
Feeling good and plan healthy eating today. Will have early dinner and start fasting by 6pm. Hope to extend tomorrow’ FD to 42 hours by having 500 calories or less till Thursday noon. Looking for a good weigh in on Sunday. Will probably do a 3rd FD on Saturday. I’ve decided I’ll only write down my lowest weigh ins. Trying to focus on the low numbers and make them appear. I’ve added walking one hour at least 5 mornings each week. Hope all are having a good 5:2 day!
Has anyone had success with drinking kumbucha tea on FD’s to help with energy? My son drinks it all the time and loves it. I think it’s an acquired taste. I just discovered our local coffee shop has it on tap, like beer, and comes in 6 different flavors.

    Hi Edzeko and welcome:

While there is nothing wrong with eating veggies if you enjoy eating that many in that manner, that’s an awful lot of calories to eat just to ‘burn fat efficiently’ – when not eating anything burns fat the fastest and most efficiently of all. Note the guy who ate nothing at all for over a year and lost over 250 pounds. I’d just take a vitamin pill and forgo the calories (and cost and time). I’ve observed that people starting a radical new way of eating like 5:2 do better if they don’t at the same time institute a radical change in the foods they eat (or exercise pattern). You will probably find you do change the foods you eat, but that will happen more slowly and after you have become accustomed to the 5:2 eating pattern. I always take a good vitamin, although not to burn fat efficiently – the body does that quite well on its own when it needs to – but to replace the nutrients I’m not getting because I’m eating less. As they say, whatever works for you!

Here are some 5:2 tips: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

    Sussex UK Day 11 NFD
Good FD yesterday and pay-off this morning 57.4kg.
I am going on holiday next Thursday (20th) so I am going all out! I am doing the Blood Sugar Diet + 5:2 – that is 800cals each day on the Mediterranean diet + 1 FD. I am still keeping the FD in because I want the health benefits of fasting as well as weight-loss. I am finding the Mediterranean 800 cals surprisingly easy to keep to – I have known for a long time that carbs just make me want more carbs so going very-low carb makes sense to me – and to my body, apparently.
For lunch I had home-made Thai lentil and coconut soup and I drink de-caff tea and coffee. For dinner this evening, I will have crust less pizza with a tonne of salad – fortunately I love eating salad! I might even sneak a cheeky glass of red in there, which is also part of the BSD!
    Keep smiling everyone. O&D

    Dubai Day 11 NFD
    Weight 61.6 kg

    Day 11, Québec, FD

Sorry Fuvvie, I didn’t write for a few days. Was back on bad eating habits and didn’t feel like writing it down here. I however exerciced a bit and I am proud of that.

My FD is well started, just have to hold on !

    Bonne journée x

Hi everyone UK day 11 fast day

So far so good, I even managed to resist the smell of freshly baked bread while collecting the post for the office, hmmmmm it smelt good! However I am trying an experiment I saw on TV. I smacked my silicone band against my wrist. Idea is if you think about something you don’t want to think about ie freshly baked bread you smack a band on your wrist – maybe an elastic band would give the same effect or a charity band you may have in the house. This then triggers the idea if you think of freshly baked bread (in this instance) and you get a smack on the wrist, you learn not to think about it? Worth a try lol. I got pangs of hunger about 4pm and attempted to phone a recently opened healthy restaurant to see if they would make an omelette which would still keep me within my 1/4 TDEE but they didn’t pick up. There was no other food I was tempted by as I wanted it to be a ‘friendly’ food. So figured I will just keep going.

Car passed its MOT this evening and I am off to Maths soon. Hopefully I won’t be tempted when I get home and I can mark this down to a very successful liquid only day. I’ll let you know.

Brightonbelle – I too have realised I am a slow looser. I can go for a few weeks and lose next to nothing which is hard to keep the momentum going – then I may have a whoosh. It seems my body will let go when it wants – I just to have to keep the faith and keep on going and as you say, this is for life and I will get there no matter how long it takes. I just get so impatient sometimes. O&D

Q – we have all been there, done that and got the tee shirt. Be very proud that you are not giving up and glad you seem to be back on the horse.

Thanks for the encouragement LindaSue, greatly appreciated…

Saltyseabird – wow on the diet combo! Let us know how you get on…

Hi clarkey24 – will do. My aim is 55kg or 8.5 stone. At the moment, I am looking for anything under 9st.
I have lost about 10lbs since August but I still have belly fat -typical TOFI!

    Day 11|NFD|Bucks UK

Not very hungry today which is very unusual for me.

    Day 12 NZ NFD
Was considering a FD today but have decided on low cal to make up for going over TDEE yesterday.
Was up half the night with a sick child and have about 5 extra loads of washing (blankets, pillows, bedcovers) to get through as a result today…not a fun 24hours for him or I.
Fingers crossed it doesn’t spread right through the house.
Thanks for the explanation about viewing profiles whoever pointed it out for me.
Saltyseabird would it be rude of me to ask how tall you are? I struggle to convert things to kilos but seeing your goal of 55 is pretty close to mine makes me curious about how close we are

    Gozo, Malta
    Day11
    NFD

Lany36 I hope the virus or whatever illness will pass soon and that you won’t catch it.

Today I stayed below my TDEE.

I’ve babysat my grandson today and as his mother was on call I stayed with her till 800 pm.

My son had a private lesson today. So I had to take and bring him back home as it was in another village. He sometimes catches me and lifts me up the ground. I tell him not to do that but he does it anyway. It’s a lovely change of him when he doesn’t grumble if his food isn’t to his taste. Sometimes he can be so picky.

It’s inspiring to read everyone’s posts. Take care everyone and remember tomorrow is another day.

Welcome Clarkey24, I let go of the horrible ‘shame’ word many years ago, its way too negative. There is no shame in being here and sharing the journey with these great non judgemental folk!
I reluctantly set goal weights but really my goal is just to get below the present number on the scales and keep it of. I hope you enjoy this journey and I wish you every success.

    Day 11 Cornwall UK

NFD – under tdee, 1.5 hours pilates class. Fasting tomorrow.

    Hi Lany36,
    I’m 5′ 3″.
    SSB

Aww, Lany – sorry to hear about the sick child. I remember those days (and nights) well. My daughter, she is 43 now, seemed to get sick over every single Christmas break. There are so many pictures of her all bundled up in a chair or on the couch during the festivities. Her birthday is two days after Christmas so that usually wasn’t much fun either.

Hope yours is feeling better and it was a one time only thing – not a house wide infection.

simcoeluv…I remember from previous challenges that you are a wealth of information. Thank you for sharing. I have been on 5:2 since April, and having very good success over all. I do not get close to 7-10 cups on FD. I use a green powder to get me there on NFD. The powder is 50 calories, and tastes exactly like grass. Generally, I do not count calories, but I am very careful about what I eat. This seems to work for me.

So far, 5:2, plus controlling my insulin with a diet that consists of a variety of vegetables, healthy fats and protein, plus exercise has proven to be the right combo for me. I was careless to make it sound like I’m giving nutrition advice. I’m NOT. I am a student, not a teacher. And my body is my science lab. That being said, I sometimes like to state what I am learning, because it helps me process. I’m going to make a disclaimer next time.

I strongly believe there is not one exact way to eat that is perfect for everyone. Bodies are unique, and respond differently.

    …just to clarify. 🙂

UK Nottingham – Day 11 NFD

Weight today 240.6lbs, it’s just not moving 😫

    Post 2
Heading to bed soon didn’t eat today so successful fast!

Day 11 E. Canada FD and holy cow I think I’m gonna make it!

I changed tack and decided to skip breakfast and delay lunch as long as I could. Didn’t eat until early afternoon) and then about 20 almonds. A small tomato for a late afternoon snack. A very small portion of steak, rice, and salad for dinner. A handful of wild blueberries for dessert. So yup, I’m gonna make the 500 cal limit. (No way am I going for 1/4 of my TDEE, that would be a recipe for failure.) I am super impressed with those who can do liquids only.

Lots of exercise today – biked to and from the pool for a swim, and then tackled post-storm cleanup which included chopping up a downed tree branch and raking up a lot of leaves and twigs. All this and I actually think I’ll make the FD. My head is insufferably large as a result today.

Thanks to GoldenSun for the pep talk, I sure needed it yesterday. And Golden, good for you for sticking it out through all the emotional rollercoaster.

Clarkey24 don’t you dare feel ashamed. It takes courage to ‘put it out there.’ We all have different goals in absolute terms but all of us can relate to the challenges of weight loss (or weight gain as the case may be.) Just put one foot in front of you and start, we are all in this together.

Quebecoise, as another poster said, we all have worn the tee shirt of relapse.

Jaycey669, ok, but look at it this way – your weight isn’t moving UP either. Perhaps try a 4:3 for a while to see if that kicks the body into burning some fat.

    O and D everyone!

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 12: NFD: Got to hang in there. Have had breakfast, yoghurt, red papaya (absolutely delicious, then ate the bacon and egg that I cooked for my grandson which he didn’t want. So have to go lightly for the rest of the day. Have to get my mother-in-law to hide the nuts for me. She is very good at putting things where we can’t find them lol. Spend quite a bit of time looking for things like glasses, tooth, etc. Still I misplace things and spend ages looking for my own stuff.

Clarkey24. You are starting off only 4kgs more than I started. I’m fluctuating between 104 and 106 kgs now. Lost most in the first 4 months and have been phaffing around ever since. It will be 6 months on 26th of this month. That is by far the longest I have ever stuck at anything. I look at those who are 60 and 70 kgs and wish…. But then I look at Buttonboots, Lolly, ETJ and others in this site and know it is doable. It just takes time and effort and commitment, especially when motivation has gone AWOL. Bit stressed at present trying to come to terms with whether or not to place MIL in residential care, but no doubt I will come out the other end with 5:2 still grounding me. You will get oodles of encouragement here. No shame in our weight, just a desire to feel better in our own skins, move better, become more active and thrive.

Moth54, I nearly had a heart attack thinking I had missed a post somewhere, when I figured out that Jaycey669 was Jayneyb69 LOL. I do get so engrossed in reading a post I forget to enter the day and etc and move onto the next. So I have to check up those with gaps every now and then to see if it me, or just posters missing out a day here and there. I’m going to have to get Coda’s big stick and whack myself around the head with it. Wake up Australia, your country needs you. See you all later.

Day 11: Pacific NW USA, Liquid only FD, holding on for the Giants!

(OK, Edzeko, SongBird, and LindaSue – I grew up in a multi-generation So. Illinois Cardinals family so I’ve been called a traitor before! But now I’ve started a new 3 generation left coast SF Giants family (me and OH, our kids and grandkids). And we’re due to start the next do or die game in less than 30 minutes. My kids were at the game in SF last night, everyone texting and up so late over those 13 innings.) Now we return to regular programming and back to everyone else who can’t care less that in America we have crazy World Series baseball games and that the Giants are still alive in the post season!

Lael – very interesting about you feeling thin skinned and added weight as padding to insulate one’s self from hurt. An acupuncturist once told me that if I sort of rubbed my flat hand in circles around in front of my upper abdomen (over a chakra) it would help cut off some of those emotional jabs we allow to get to us. It just so happens to be a place I have seemingly added extra padding also. At least it’s another way to visualize taking care of yourself!

GoldenSun – sounds like you’re thinking of yourself now!

Clarkey – your numbers will go down with 5:2, right before your eyes, and, No Shame Here!

Fuvvie – you and I have the same 5:2 birthday, only 2 days apart!

    Go Giants!

US Mountain West, Day 11, FD. 4 MILES run/walk on treadmill yesterday. Today 60 minute workout with weights.

    Perth, Australia, Day 12, NFD

Yesterday, I was very naughty. On the back of my ‘reaching the 80’s’ euphoria, I kind of self sabotaged. I went to my cafe for breakfast and had a sausage, egg and cheese roll to have with my coffee. Lunch was a bit better, fruit salad and a protein ball, dinner was fish and chips (complete with pineapple ring and a Coke 😳)with a friend. More biscuits rounded off the evening. Just listing it, makes give myself a sharp tap, upside the head.

The good news is I did go for a walk yesterday afternoon and I got my blood pumping and respiration rate really up by doing some HIIT in the backyard (mini sprints up a hill). It felt good! I’m very proud of embracing the exercise component of this challenge. I had become really lazy. It is great to be moving again.

I was expecting to be back in 90’s today, due to water retention from the salt in my food yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case and that I’d only put on 0.1kg! Not sure how that works, but I’ll take it and be mindful of what I eat today.

Clarkey24, instead of shame, be proud of your courage to write your numbers down in spite of your feelings. Your courage in giving this a go, for making the change. You can do this! As others have said, you’ve come to the right place for encouragement!

Aargh! I’m not sure who congratulated me on my efforts, but thank you! (It’s on the previous page and I’m this far into this post and I need to get a wriggle on with this day). I appreciate your encouragement.

Fuvvie, when I started this challenge, I was a bit reticent about the daily posts. However, I’m now thankful. It has been really motivating and keeps me accountable. Thank you!

    Hope everyone enjoys the day

    Calgary, Canada Day 11 NFD
Got my new scale yesterday and it is amazing.. stepped it on numerous times and always the same weight.. It track Body Fat, Muscle % and water %… not that I need all those to track my success but it sure was nice to step on it this morning and see I actually did lose weight last week..
Walked the dogs today 20 mins

    Australia, day 12, nonFD

    Australia Day 12 FD

    USA (Minnesota) Day 11 NFD
Low calorie day, today, hopefully. It’s almost 8:30 pm so I’m hoping I can end the day without snacking. The first 4 months of 5:2 I did not eat after 7 pm. Somehow, I’ve become quite lax about that. Not good!

Spent such a great weekend with Son’s family and two oldest grandkids, 13 and 10. Today, babysat the two youngest granddaughters, my daughter’s children, a 4 year old, and 3 & 1/2 months, both of whom are just getting over colds and stomach bugs, with very aggressive vomiting. Daycare is such a germ factory!
I have a niece’s wedding to travel to this weekend and I really hope I didn’t catch the stomach virus! I’ll be seeing two of my siblings for the first time in four years. I feel good about where I am with my weight, considering age and all. Such a relief to not have one’s weight added to other reasons in life that might make one feel uncomfortable.
I haven’t had time to catch up on posts. This is the longest I’ve gone without reading everything since I started in May! It feels terrible to miss so many posts and not be in touch with my online supportive pals! I hope you are all doing well; I truly do!
My best to everyone, and hopefully I will catch up tomorrow. It’s suppose to be a rainy and cold day here, and if the granddaughters are doing well, and I won’t be babysitting, I will be able to catch up and comment.
Good luck everyone and stay strong! And visualize your goals: your weight on the scale, the feel of loose clothing, the compliments that might come (though some will never give you a compliment), the feeling of moving with more ease, and stay patient. Over time 5:2 will always work.
    My best wishes to everyone!
