  • Day 9 : NFD : Cheshire, UK

Yesterday, spent most of the day in bed. Attempts to go out with my friends failed so I ended up going to the cinema on my own and eating lots of sweets and hot chocolate. Comfort food ๐Ÿ™‚

They didn’t really comfort me so today back to healthy eating.

@missj2002 thank you! I’m trying to find my inner strength to give him the space he has asked for but I miss him so much, especially as his request is a result of a big argument.

    Sussex UK Day 9 NFD
Wedding of my friend’s daughter yesterday – she loved the cake. Lovely day and really nice but modest food. Weigh in this morning 57.8kg (9st 1.5lbs) – I am aiming to see 8 stone something!
Susiecarp – I read some more of the book and the 5:2 version is a variation on this 5:2 – you can have 800 cals on fast days but the rest of the time is the low-carb, Mediterranean Diet as explained in the book. This really appeals to me as I have been reducing my carbs anyway. The most intense version is 800 cals only (but still low-carb, Mediterranean ) for up to 8 weeks for really quick and dramatic weight-loss. And before everyone starts saying all the stuff about ‘if you lose quickly, you’ll gain quickly’, and ‘you’ll go into starvation mode and stop losing weight’. – you know, all the things we’ve been told for decades! Well, Dr Mosley bursts all those myths with some excellent science!
My pedometer is just an Omron – it wasn’t expensive but it seems to do the job. Just be aware that if you’re moving quite slowly, it doesn’t always register – as a teacher, I’m on my feet pretty much all day, but it doesn’t seem to register when I’m walking slowly round the classroom.
    Keep smiling and O&D

Day 8: Pacific NW USA, NFD. Close to TDEE but when I’m away from home It’s difficult to eat as nutritionally as I would with those calories. I had two meals today, breakfast of pretty standard eggs and bacon (I said no toast or potatoes but they showed up on the plate anyway.) I did have a fried chicken dinner that was delicious, with kale and roasted pear salad but I passed on the rice. When I get home I hope the scales are still going in the right direction!

I’ve been on the go for 18 hours today but I’ll be traveling tomorrow and doing lots more sitting so I’ll have time to go back and catch up on all the postings I’ve missed.

    Good morning/good night all!

    Day 9 Portugal NFD
So yesterday’s FD went really well until we ordered in pizza for dinner last night. I should have stopped after the second slice as I was quite full but I took a third. So calorie count was nearer to 1000 cal than 500! Ah well. So I was surprised when the scales read 67.7kg this morning. Down 0.6kg??? Not complaining, just surprised.

Exercise today – 18 minute anaerobic HIIT and 100 squat challenge.

    Hi all uk day 9

Goldensun I really feel for you. Relationships can be difficult at times and that is the same whether you have been together for 2 years or 30. We all go through bad patches. You actually can only appreciate the ups when you have experienced the downs even though they feel awful at the time – a bit like loosing weight lol. I think the important thing is once any heat has gone then talk. Relationships need tweaked from time to time, maybe one feels a bit neglected. Make time for one another – life can be very fast paced and it can be easy to overlook the important things. They can be the small things – a walk in the park, a note to say I love you, a hug. I hope he is missing you as much as you him and you can work it out – and move on stronger now that you have weathered a storm. Please try not to comfort eat. Try to think you need a clear head and you don’t want a sugar fog to blur things. You want him to look into a pair of sparkling eyes not dull from eating rubbish. Eat foods that will support you not ones that only add to how bad you are feeling. Think of food as your friends – you need the type of friend now that will lift your spirits not a friend that will bring you down and make you feel worse. You would quickly avoid a friend like that. Fingers crossed for you x

    NZ, Day 9, NFD
Ate far too much at family gathering – feeling yuck tonight (to put it mildly!).
Back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off for school holidays with my girls & niece/nephews came to stay for some also.
FD tomorrow & back to focus on water intake – very little water today & I will not be hopping on scales in the morning!!

Ps I think we could all at times do what Neo does, he just gets on with it. Everyday he logs his weight sometimes the same, sometimes down, sometimes up. Never says anything just continues. Do we as women over think things and make things more difficult than they are? We are elated when the scale is down by a lb but find it difficult to cope if it’s the other way round. We really do need to accept it is what it is and move on towards our goal.
    Neo what do you think?

    Australia, Day 9, NFD

    An 18/6 day.

    Essex uk day 9. NFD.

Second NFD in a row. Oddly I would much prefer today to be a FD. Roast beef with inlaws today but I’ll try to keep intake controlled. I’m mindful that weigh in on Friday I’d like to be 140lb or lower. It’s achievable if I make sensible decisions……hmmm!!

Happy Sunday everyone. Have a good day/night. X

Day 9: Gloucestershire, UK: Another non-fast day.
Still at goal weight…hooray. It’s been over a month now.
My task today is to try not to over-eat, ha..ha!! My meals always become big, extended meals, but if I can stick to (fairly) healthy food, that’s ok. Looking forward to salmon for lunch today.

    UK
    Day 9
    FD

    Goal weight: 126lbs (57.1kg)

    Start weight 147.4lbs (66.8kg)

    Today’s weight 142lbs (64.4kg)

@coda – thank you so much for your kind words of support. I like the idea of looking at food as types of friends. Once again, thank you!

    Day 9 Cornwall UK

Goldensun big hugs. Codaโ€™s advice is also my thinking. I wish you all the best and hope you can work things out.

Ciren2 – brilliant over a month at goal!
Lael and songbirdme, congratulations! Can’t wait to join the maintainance group!!

Patti67 and Brightonbelle – belated birthday wishes.

Coda I also see Neoโ€™s posts and think maybe its the way to go! Maybe we do overthink things. Women tend to talk and share their daily struggles and certainly the help and support I’ve recieved on this thread since May has really helped me. And I hope I have also helped others a little on their journeys.

NFD today my last fast was Thursday and I will fast again tomorrow, then weekly weigh on Thursday morning. Been out for a quick bike ride 8mls this morning.

Good luck everyone, stay strong, O&D!!

    Second Post

WOW SongBirdMe! What an achievement! I feel delirious for you! It must be hard to believe that all your hard work has paid off.

Thanks SSB! Really appreciate it. I have an Omron stashed somewhere, so I’ll dig it out. At least that’ll save me some money.

Gosh, I love being on this forum and I must say I rather like reading everyone’s posts, whether “over thought” or not, for an insight into how others are doing and for a window into their life. It’s interesting. It’s also heartening how others respond to those who need encouragement.

Beautiful autumnal day here in Wales. Must go and plant my bulbs. Have a lovely day.

    Coda
Love your posts you give such thought-provoking advice – you put a lot of time and effort into this and I can’t tell you how important it is for the rest of us to read it and seriously think about it thank you for the time and effort you put into this thread have a good day

Day 9 Fla USA NFD tough day yesterday – not food wise but fluids. Doing a 2 hour trip to visit friends and didn’t want potty stops on the way so I had 2 cups of coffee with b fast- hit the potty at my friends house and went out to shop and play for the day – planning to meet our husbands for dinner. It was very hot and humid and as I am normally a big water drinker by mid afternoon I felt like the urinary tract infection from hell had arrived. I was in pain exhausted hot nauseous – felt like passing out. About 4:30 we grabbed a diet Pepsi – felt a little better – still no lightbulb moment – met at a great Mediterranean (light
fare) and drank 4 glasses of water with my dinner
and on the two hour trip home planning my doctor’s
visit realized I felt fine – no potty stops – finally a
lightbulb moment. — I had been so dehydrated my
body was screaming in pain for fluids !!!! Let me tell
you that woun’t happen again. Having HYDRATE
tattooed on my forehead. Have a great day and
    hydrate.

Good Morning All, USA, Missouri Ozarks, Day 9, Non-Fasting

Beautiful Sunday morning here, wishing you all a wonderful day.

    Day 9. Sussex. U.K.
    NFD.
Zucchini omelette for breakfast and stuffed marrow with lamb and extra veg for main meal.
Chugging the water and red bush tea.
Songbird me – many congratulations. You must surely feel elated.
Ciren2 – how wonderful to get there and maintain. Well done you.
Coda -you talk a lot of sense. I am trying what you have suggested thinking of some foods as people you would rather not know, who actually bring you down. I did know someone like this once who would come visit for a few hours then she would skip off home and I would feel weighed down. Lol.
Thanks everyone, just for being there.

    Day 9 Liverpool UK NFD
    Many thanks for support
Apart from scales not responding I have had a good first week with 3 walks and one night on the vodka. This is good as I have been drinking too much through boredom.

Day 9 US FD. Down another. 5 lb. Yayyyyyy!

UK day 9 NFD but back on the horse! I must admit my first thoughts were I’ve got to get rid of the pounds I have undoubtably put on last week, but having a good read through all the posts have reminded me that slow and steady works best for me so I’m concentrating on getting in 2 good FDs next week and take it from there

Day 9 – Ohio, USA -NFD

Was looking forward to tomorrow’s FD but just remembered I have dinner event at nice restaurant tomorrow night. Tuesday & Thursday it is then. Doing decently food-wise. Today lots of walking & tomorrow gym. Have a good day all.

    Day 9 USA (Illinois)

FD today – going to keep up 5:2 for a couple weeks to see if I can maintain my goal. Thank you, one and all, for your kind congrats! You all have become kind of a club of good friends over the past several months, and I tell everyone who notices my weight loss about you all. This 160 goal was rather arbitrary, but in some ways not. Although I am 5’7″ tall, this seems to be a good weight for me to not look too wrinkley! At 68 that is important.

The 50 year H.S. Reunion was lots of fun yesterday. I’m very proud of all of the accomplishments of my fellow classmates. We had people there from all over the world who came back for it. A couple I hoped to see didn’t make it. Isn’t that always the case? I may have a couple new friends from there who want to try 5:2.

    Onward and downward, everyone!

    Gozo, Malta

    Day 9 NFD

All my family sat at lunch today here. My daughter liked the rose gold necklace I bought her for her birthday. Everyone liked the duck breasts with cherry sauce and spicy carrot soup both recipies by Mary Berry. We sung as my daughter cut the gateaux. I had everything although I only had a few roasted potatoes and a smaller slice of the gateaux.

This evening i will have a light meal and try to stay under TDEE. This morning I only had coffee and milk because as Rocy65 said it’s important to calculate the meals you’re having on the day before you consume a breakfast.

Yesterday I discovered that the supermarket I go to has konjac pasta and rice and I bought several packets. I tried the spaghetti konjac with an arrabiata sauce and yesterday my husband and I had it for dinner. My husband said it was ok though the taste was different ofcourse. So this morning I went and bought some more packets to try this pasta with a seafood sauce tomorrow. My daughter has decided to take 5:2 fast diet seriously to lose some weight and she’s having what I have on fast days.

Tomorrow is a fast day for us. I’ve planned the menu but might have 600 not 500 calories. I still intend to do 4:3 this week and intend to start walking to do some exercise. I hope to reach my target weight this month.

Have a great Sunday everyone. Onwards and downwards.

Surrey UK Day 8 and 9 Checking in, fasting today.

Those of you who have reached your goal weight: Why not pop in to the maintenance thread from time to time…a few of us “old 5:2 buddies” are there.

    https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/little-voices-join-third-time-lucky-now-maintaining/#post-170080

Hope to pick up some tips on learning how to maintain hard won losses!

    October 9th Calgary, Canada
NFD Weight still allover the place. Thanks Sonia and Coda, I have been doing a bootcamp workout and a little light weight training for the last 4 weeks, so yes, my muscles will be getting stronger and possibly bigger(heavier) so my weight remains stagnant for now but my measurements are dropping. Still, I will be getting a new scale today I am going to get one that measures body fat also, that way I can know for sure what is going on.

Last night had 2 shortbread cookies around 10pm…after a really good NFD but at least I stopped at 2..lol

    Day 9
    FD

Just finishing off my fast day. Still feeling under the weather but feel quite proud I managed a fast while not feeling great. Will weigh in tomorrow.

    USA day 10 NFD
172 lbs today after 36 hour fast
@saltyseabird: I’m very interested in your review of Dr Mosley’s latest book. I read about it online but haven’t ordered the book yet. Does he indicate that he is altering his previous 5:2 plan in favor of the 800 calorie FD’s and low card rest of time?

    USA day 10 NFD

@saltyseabird: I’m very interested in your review of Dr Mosley’s latest book. I read about it online but haven’t ordered the book yet. Day 10, Brussels, NFD

Hi Maui, the new book is specifically aimed at reducing blood sugars in type-2 diabetics or ‘pre-diabetics’ so it isn’t a move away from 5:2, rather a version to help diabetics. Having said that, I think the advice would really be relevant to most of us here – I know I am a TOFI (thin outside, fat inside) and therefore at risk of diabetes and/or heart disease etc. and the book is also aimed at TOFIs.
The intense version of the diet is really aimed at people with a lot of weight to lose and significant blood sugar issues but I think the whole premise is good for everyone.
If you have a look at the website, he explains the different versions of the diet so you can see if it would be a good option. Hope this helps.

@lou Belles I’m with you completely! Quite frustrating. I’m fasting 3 days this week to compensate.

    Day 10 FD NZ
Very much a blow out 3 day feast Fri-Sun so this FD is needed.
I read someone was weighing on Saturday to try and curb the 3 day over eating issue that is obviously not unique to me so I might try that this week as well as Friday weigh in. I don’t want to lose track of the accuracy of weighing at the same time after a FD but the extra day might help slowly being my NFDs into line a bit.
It’s lovely to read people are making it to maintenance, I’m sure it gives everyone, but certainly me, renewed confidence that this will get me to my goals

Australia Day 10 FD sorry I have not caught up with everyone’s posts for a few days. I will later today. I hope everyone has a good week

    Cornwall UK
    Day 9 NFD
Really busy day working. Weigh in tomorrow and Fast Day too. Am looking forward to seeing how I am doing on the scales.

    Day 9|NFD| Buckinghamshire UK

Lost another lb after yesterday’s fasting so smiling….
Had dinner at my mum’s so most likely blew it and she always gives me containers of rice and peas and chicken to take home…
I can definitely feel the difference now after a fast day and will not over eat… going to bed bloated now!

    London | Day 9 | NFD

16:8 went well today. My first instinct after exercise and shower was to have breakfast because thatโ€™s just what I normally do. So instead I came on the forum und then figured out what else I can do to tie me over until lunchtime.

At 1pm a client came by the studio to discuss a painting and after he left I gave myself an hour to eat. I then went for a walk to the shops, cooked and did the washing. Keeping busy helped me reach dinner time without snacking. I allowed myself time for snacking until 8pm (which has been my food cut off for a year now and to which I can easily stick) but ended up only having a bowl of soup. Overall it was a very successful day ๐Ÿ™‚

All the best for the new week everyone!

    Day 7, Day 8, Day 9 – E. Canada all NFD

As I feared I could not find a decent means of posting whilst away on the weekend, so I have to play catchup.

Fuvvie the expression ‘head full of lard’ I attribute to Hercule Poirot, (Agatha Christie.) It always struck me as amusing.

Day 7(Fri) – E. Canada NFD. I was reasonably conservative at lunch but on the road is hard. Ate a sandwich instead of the usual salad as being hand food, was easier.

Supper was a delicious gourmet pasta dish – with the result that I ate more than the prescribed portion of pasta. I also split a dessert, although as desserts go it was healthier than many on the menu (sliced bananas, light cream, and yes, some chocolate with it.)

Day 8 (Sat) – NFD (pointless to schedule a FD under given circumstances.)

Pleased with myself for packing a breakfast to eat in-room instead of the hotel breakfast which would have been deadly. Lunch though was a sandwich again. Supper – different hotel this time, menu was terrible. Did my best. Ordered a rice bowl with shrimp and veggies – how hard could this be to get wrong. The veggies were overcooked and with some kind of sauce, and with noodles instead of rice. Too tired to ask for exchange, and ate it anyway.

On the other hand, I eschewed dessert and ate the fruit I’d brought instead.

Day 9 (Sun) – NFD. Again, ate the packed breakfast and half a banana I’d packed. Good for me.
Ate the ‘wrong’ kind of sandwich at lunch – pulled pork with cheese and bbq sauce. These kinds of fast food sandwiches are NOT good.

Back at home this evening, endeavouring to have a scrambled egg and salad, and some fruit.

Back to regular daily posting tomorrow. All in all, I’ve navigated the holiday weekend not too badly. I have finished the most deadly part of the weekend at 133.5 pounds. But definitely not as healthy a diet as I want to adhere to.

Goldensun I read your post. Hang in there, remember you are doing the healthy eating for yourself, and no matter what else happens in your life, being as healthy as you can be will help you deal with whatever happens.

    Perth, Australia, Day 10, FD

Yesterday was a funny day. I managed a walk down the beach. Didn’t feel like much to eat during the day, although I did eat and quite healthily until about 9pm last night. I got a sweet craving so consumed about 4 biscuits and then I found the wedge of Brie. Let’s just say it didn’t last long ๐Ÿ˜•. Still, this morning, weigh in wasn’t too bad. I lost the 800gm I’d put on after my previous fast day.

Interesting to see how today goes with fasting. Working today and I always struggle fasting whilst at work. Stress = chocolate consumption. Time to find healthier coping mechanisms I think.

Happy fasting people. Hope your week goes well

    Hello from Barbados

Please can I join your October challenge, albeit, 10 days late?!…

I wish I had looked at this site earlier but I am delighted to have found it now. The local time here is currently 1920 and my first fast days is tomorrow, Monday 11th October.

It will be great to be able to connect with you all.

Baygirl – you’re just starting your day, I have read cinnamon tea really helps to curb sugar cravings. I have to get some, maybe you could try too? Have a great day!

    Day 9 USA (Minnesota) NFD
Checking in at almost 9 pm my time after a great weekend away visiting my son, daughter-in-law, and two oldest grandchildren. Three hours in car yesterday and again on way home today. Today we spent time at their community apple orchard/pumpkin patch (large field). It was a beautiful sunny, breezy, 64 degree F day. What a blessing to be able to spend time with them on such a day! I had a chicken and apple salad on croissant, without eating the croissant; a fourth of a cup of broccoli and cheese soup, sharing the rest, and a fourth of a warm apple pie. Quite constrained, I would say, and I was very proud of that.
The Mexican meal we treated them to on Saturday is a different story. I still did not binge, but sadly I did eat a lot and also sadly, I didn’t really enjoy it very much. It wasn’t very good, and I did eat more than I should have but not as much as I would have a year ago. Next time that my OH and I want to have a free/splurge day, and treat ourselves, we will go for a good pizza.
Best of luck to all, and hopefully, tomorrow, I can read all of the posts from over the last couple of days.

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 10: FD: Have had a big lunch so will have to skip tea. Now sipping on sparkling mineral water. Feeling a bit grim today as i only had about 2 hours sleep all up last night. Abdo pain and the ill fitting CPAP kept me awake. So not sparking on all cylinders today.

Coda, I loved what you were able to say to Golden Sun. You really have a way with words and looking into the heart of a problem. Such sound advice.

Welcome Clarkey24. When you sign in, can you please write your location, The day which matches up with the date in this case, and whether it is an FD (fast day) or NFD(non fast day). I enter this onto a spread sheet so it’s easier to keep track of things. It would also be lovely to hear what you weight is, what your goal is and whether exercise is one of your goals. The challenge is to sign in every day to keep yourself accountable. At the end of the challenge, I will work out how much we have lost, gained, managed and feed it back to the group. You can share as much or as little as you want of what’s going on for you etc. I’m sure you have gleaned a lot of that if you’ve read through the thread. You could update your profile which you can click on in the top right hand corner and also enter details into the tracker. The tracker is for your eyes only. The profile others can click on to see whatever you wish to share about yourself.

Hey Coldpizza, how are you travelling?

This is another post from me with a quick question Fuvvie you mentioned seeing other people’s profiles but I’m not sure how to find anyone.
I know where the tracker is but not how to find anyone else

    Day 10 Italy – FD
Stayed within TDEE yesterday and did loads of jobs in the garden. I have designed a vegetable patch and built my first raised bed yesterday…still lots of work to go.
Really need a good FD to feel back on top of things

Tweed Coast Australia / Day 10 / NFD

I would have loved to fast today, though had something scheduled which precluded fasting. After waiting with others for over an hour, found out that even was cancelled. Feeling more hungry than usual today and just being with it as best I can, feeling it like a big wave that I’ve yet to feel pass through! I know that nothing I would eat would satiate this hunger, so maybe it is emotional in origin? Anyway, I’m doing my best not to snack and am happy with that.

    Newcastle UK – FD

Good Morning from the UK. Today is my first FD since last Thursday and after eating rubbish over the weekend I feel ‘ready’ to fast. I’ll post my weight tomorrow as I try to do it weekly rather than daily and always after the first FD of the week (Mon/Tues).

I’m going to catch up on all your posts later today. They help so much when I get tempted to scoff food!

Wishing everyone a great Monday ๐Ÿ˜€
