  • Hi im Julie and tomorrow will be my new day, im 63 and I need to loose at least 30 kg, ive only been overweight for 15yrs but just cant move it, so im trying this.

    I decided, too, that now is the time to lose the weight (10-11 kgs). I’m going to work out what’s involved and my husband, two daughters and I are all going to start on Thursday. (Only two of us need to lose weight. The other two are being supportive!). I’mm 55. Good luck to us!

    Hi Lizzie,first day fasting its so hard when you have 3 other adults in the house all eating lovely things, but still they don’t know what im doing as they would all say what I should be eating or not. Lets face it we all know what we should and shouldn’t eat lol. this is just for me at the moment,it helps when you have an ativity to keep your mind else where.

    Hi everyone, I’m a newbie too, had my first fast on Thursday. I’m like you julieanneg, i need to get rid of 15-20 k’s which moved in on me about 15 years ago and refuse to go no matter what I try. I found the fast day easy enough because of the end goal, plus to see if I could really do it, i only lost .5 k but better down that up hay? I’m fasting Monday and Thursday will give it a go for some time as I have seen so many positives on these forums including so much support. I’m 63 and KNOW the older you are the harder it is to get rid of unwanted extra weight, so hang in there everyone, we are there for each other

    Hi all,im doing well on my fasting days thanks to my painting,i just find it hard between 1.00 to 5 oclock but I guess it will change in time, I feel good though how are our other newbys going.

    Do I do a 10 day eating plan like in the book or do I fast for 2 days choosing two days plans and then 5 normal days?

    julieanneg, most people have a particular time of the day when they get really hungry. You need to find a strategy to get through that period. Play around with your meal times or the type of food you are eating.
    A lot of fasters prefer not to eat early in the day as it seems to trigger their hunger. Most will come round to a low carb fasting day: lots of vegetables and a reasonable portion of protein like eggs, fish or chicken. You might have days you consider “failure” because you went over your 500 kcal, or the experiment did not work. Don’t beat yourself up, fret not and cross it off your list of options. Then move on to the next idea until you are happy with what you have found.

    tribalbelly, in a lot of posts here and in other forums people will advise you to plan ahead. If you can do that and stick to it, do it. If spontaneous cooking tempts you into uncontrolled cooking and eating, definitely plan ahead.
    I personally do not plan ahead. I have a house full of food, can cook and have a rough idea about calorie content. Therefore I can go by my hunger on the fast day. I only eat one meal at dinner time and this varies from a 60 kcal frozen prawn wonton soup to a modified Denver style two egg omelette or grilled chicken breast on salad. For some strange reason I can be firm and resist temptation on my fast days; but if you struggle with that plan ahead.
    Using a 5:2 cook book or recipe site (http://www.lavenderandlovage.com/ or http://www.focusonflavour.com/ for example) can help you get ideas so you can get into the swing of things. A lot of these recipes are suitable for the non-fasters in the family if you cook some potatoes, pasta or rice for them. I have been told that the hairy dieters’ books are good as well and suitable for the whole family but I have not tried them myself.

    So, choose what seems easier for you and give it a go. Worst case, you went over 500 kcal. So what? It’s a learning experience, next time you know what to avoid.
