  • Started 3 weeks ago and I have already lost 2 kg in weight. It is slowly coming off but I feel really great after fasting. I have signs of osteo arthritis in my neck, back hands and wrists and on the fast days the swelling goes down significantly. The effects last for at least 2 days.I am still working as RN 3 days a week and have been having a lot of pain in my wrists after my work. Since fasting, the pain is more bearable.
I have been enjoying cakes and biscuits, deserts and chocolate on non fasting days. Because I can eat them 5 days a week I am not as focused on them and don’t find I have any cravings.
My BMI was 27.4 when I started but I am not very tall so the extra weight affects me.
Before having my children my BMI was 19 and I was underweight but also a smoker.
I have been a non smoker for 27 years now so the weight piled on after that as well.
I am giving this 6 weeks to see if I can sustain this way of eating.
Would love to hear from other similar people.

    Hi

Today is my 16th weigh in and I think it’s great. I’ve been doing a lot of exercise each week and today I’m 1 pound off my 2 stone 🙂 probably need to lose the same again really but I know it’s achievable. I’ve lost 3 pound this week and that’s with a tgi Fridays meal out and a couple of other treats so think I’ve finally found a way of eating that suits me. Hope you continue to find it keeps pain at bay and good luck

Encouraging results as I have just started 5:2. I think the first few weeks will be the hardest just getting used to doing the two fast days and also making sure I don’t over indulge on the other days. I am measuring foods and calorie counting every day, but once I know the correct portion sizes and calorie count for each item will then just rely on my knowledge – after all 5:2 is meant to be a way of life – and I don’t want to be counting calories most days!

    Hi

Do you have an app called my fitness pal? I use this on my phone everyday and it could ya calories for you instead of having to weigh everything … You can also use it to put your weight In Each week and track your measurements x

I’m using Calorie Count to follow my food consumption and record activity – I have to weigh everything to make sure I enter the correct nutritional information, especially the calories. It’s so easy to underestimate the portion size! Many standard products are already on the website, just like Fitness Pal, so I just have to enter the customised foods I eat and drink.

Thank you Lorna, not much more happening with me weight wise but feeling good eating this way. Have also inspired my husband to start doing it too!
I have the fast diet tracker so that helps.
I find I am overindulging on eating days but am getting better at restraining myself. This happens after work late at night as I work until 11pm.

Hi, started out well but need to curb my treats now. Still feeling great on fasting days but need to be more careful. Less pain in my joints on fasting days which is great.
Portion sizes have crept up on me and I have to be more aware.

Pleased to report that so far so good as I am in my third week and have lost 7lbs so far keeping to the two fast days per week and being very strict with my calorie intake on the other days. Enjoying being able to eat what I want with the proviso that I ask myself first ‘Do I really want to eat this?’ and quite often the answer is NO. Try to go for a 30 minute walk every day (more of a stroll really). Feeling much more energetic, eating much healthier food and this is keeping me motivated. Now only measuring and weighing new food items, but still recording everything daily on Calorie Count.

Hi LilySue, I am so glad you are feeling good about the fasting. That’s really the whole point. Weight loss seems to always be a goal for most of us, but feeling good isn’t always something we get at the same time. I’m only three weeks in too, having done 6 FD as of yesterday. This is the first week where I’m really seeing that I have to control food on my non fast days too. I, like you, have been really overeating on the non fast days. I also feel really good on the fast days, but undo the weight loss during the other days. I notice that I have to tell myself that I have had enough on non fast days, similar to the fast days where I have to remind myself that I’m just a little hungry and will be fine. It’s not easy as I, like you, have developed some unuseful habits around treats and portion. Let’s hang in there. We can do it. You can do it.

I find the fast days easier as I know I have to be careful what I eat but on the other days I have to make a conscious decision about foods to try and not go over the TDEE, but I am still eating the things I enjoy – occasionally.

Have turned off the ‘winter sweet tooth’ and now eating lots of salads (make up my own Russian Salad by boiling some frozen mixed vegetables and when cool adding some light mayonnaise. Even 100 gms of the salad comes to 112 grams and it is very filling – so I always have it on my fast day with a slice of ham and other salad items for one of the meals.

Went out for a curry evening and ate a huge selection of items – no idea how many calories – but no poppadoms or naan bread.
