  • Ooh DebbieQ I am from Dublin too but living in London forever it seems!! I go back home regularly and my English husband always says “but this is home”!! He just doesn’t get it 🙂

Luckily for me though he loves Ireland and gets on with my large family!!!

Where in the US are you? My sister lives in Kentucky.

    Sept 8|FD|Toronto|87.2 kilos
Home from a 6 day mini holiday. Helped build a new dock for a friend at a lakeside cottage; ate with abandon after starting off remaining on track…oh well back to reality today. Found myself consuming what was available at irregular times. Very hard to keep a separate “kitchen” life when at someone else’s residence; NFD eating fell apart,I missed a FD, and ate comfort food I usually do not have in my home. Weight bounced back from 85.5 to 87.2 kilos.
    Summer is really over!

Hi all uk in Portugal day 8
Our last day of summer before heading home tomorrow. Plan to do a fast day while travelling but will see how it goes.

    A&E = accident and emergency

Remember if you can’t post everyday as expected please let Debbie know.

I always wonder on those that sign up never to appear again or those that disappear without saying goodbye.

I still think about slimandhealthy and hope all is ok.

    Plan and commit x

    Day#8/Mountain West USA/NFD/137 lbs

    Hi Coda

Glad you are having a good holiday you – safe travels! 🙂

Day 8. NJ USA FD. Did well yesterday stayed under TDEE only had a sip of each wine at my wine club meeting then a hard roll and half a stick of butter got the best of me at 10:00pm last night. Up 2 lbs -why – like a spoiled child – just grabbed it and ate it – no thought to it at all. Wasn’t that good! Starting 36 hour fast today- know it will clear my head and get me back on track. Love these posts – gives me a place to vent and hear how others are dealing with issues. Still have not told anyone I am doing 5:2 – don’t want any lectures on ruining my health. Have a great day everyone.

Hi, can I join, I’m a newbie & need words of wisdom and encouragement from older members

I’m late as its the 8th but only started 5:2 yesterday

I’ve done 2 fast days back to back, I’m hungry but not eaten yet today but feeling fine, no ill affects as yet

    5’9″/UK16/14.1lb

    London day 8 FD

36 hour liquid fast today. Black coffee in the morning and lots of water to keep me going through the day.
I went over my TDEE yesterday – mainly due to the decision to have dessert after dinner (to celebrate my husband’s new job), and snacking on almonds. But it wasn’t wildly out (165 over)

Ciren2 – join us when you’re ready to get back on the wagon. I’m sure we’ll all have days when we fall off!
Bethany – hope your daughter is better now.
Violet – hope you feel better soon. Well done on still going with the liquid fast!
Therealwil78 – Very impressive amount of exercise you do 🙂 I generally exercise on FDs. Taking a breather this week as I’m still getting used to doing 36h liquid fasts – letting my body adjust to 0-calorie days. I exercise minimum of 4 days/week – cycling/spin, HIIT, TRX, hot yoga and running.
    Coda – enjoy your hols!

    Have a great day all!

    Day 8 USA (Utah-visiting)

NFD for me today. Busy day yesterday for this retired woman! Errands, duties, etc. but managed a good day eating wise. I did indulge in a little McDonald’s ice cream cone last night – had not had one of those in years! Their website says it is 146 calories. Not a bad dessert. I really wanted their caramel sundae but glad I had the will power to not get it – 340 calories!

I hate counting calories! Somehow through my almost 7 months of 5:2 I have still managed to lose 26 pounds by mostly just really being diligent not to have sugars or too many carbs on my NFD’s. At first I was very careful on my FD’s to count those calories, but on the other 5 – ugh. I hate looking up the calories and counting them. The 36 hour liquid only fasts with some broth has really been nice – not counting any calories!

Love reading your tales of success and even woes. We’re in this together!

Surrey UK Day 8…..what is it with me that I can’t get receiving the posts on my phone? I have to keep logging on to the computer! I have now left OUT the tick at the bottom, because it says ‘click to unsubscribe…’

Let’s see what happens now. Moan over, FD for me today, so far all is well. Will be weighing in the morning and whatever it says, so be it. Thank you Adeline for explaining to me what you mean!

    US, Day 8, NFD….

I had a good NFD yesterday, plus a weight workout. Now that my costochondritis seems to be waning, I am adding more weight to my workout. It feels really good. I’m seeing more definition in my legs, now that some of the fat is gone (too). YAY! Hoping the abdominal fat is next.

Hubby and I are flying to Madison WI tomorrow to visit Son #1 and gf. Food will be hard to resist, but so much of it is great “farm to table”. Dinner res tomorrow. Son and GF are cooking on Saturday.

Continuing my new MELT method everyday. I think it’s working.

I also have been exercising regularly for the past 30+ years. Cardio 3-4 days/week and weight training 2 days a week. I can’t do the same intensity as I did in my younger years because of joint pains that have come with age. I agree with so many of you that exercise doesn’t help that much with weight loss, but it does improve wellness. As I have reached that certain age I have been utterly surprised at how much I have to drastically cut calories. Hopefully with 5:2 I can get my weight under control again. I have felt so much better since starting IF August 1st.

    Day #8/USA/FD

WOW! I’m late checking in today! This morning is just a blur and I’m just now having time to ingest my first calories of the day(protein shake). Another tough boot camp session this morning, so I’m hoping this shake will hold me until dinner tonight. Luckily, we eat an early dinner, so not too long to wait. Hot tea for me this afternoon to keep the tummy happy!

I’ll weigh tomorrow, but not expecting a loss as I’ve had too much of a free for all last weekend and on my NFD’s. 🙁 No one to blame but myself. One day maybe I’ll learn?

    Have great days everyone!

    Day 8 USA FD
Down 3lbs at end of week #1.

    Cornall UK Day 8
Fast day today and feels so good to rest my system!
Kept busy made blackberry and apple jam and raspberry jam all from garden and hedgerows. Keeps OH happy, I don’t eat it!
Then meet with friends, black coffe only. I am going to have an omelette soon so will be under 300cals for the day, I plan to fast until tomorrow evening as we have a special meal planned.
Really enjoying looser and size smaller clothes feeling looser!

I have hurt my knee, which is really annoying! Bursitis the Dr reckons so rest and cold packs! So much to do before we go on holiday on Sunday, but I must try to rest as we’ve got lotts of walking in the Highlands planned!!

Good luck all, stay focused and plan, plan, plan!!!

    Gozo, Malta

Stayed under my TDEE today. I hope everybody had a successful day or will have a successful day today.

    Good night.

Evening all. I started the 5:2 on September 5th (children went back to school!). I appreciate I’m too late to join this challenge but I’m pleased to read all the comments. I’ll keep reading the forum daily. Thank you all in advance. You are brilliant!

Bajlish Rose… you are welcome to join us from today if you’d like! DesperatelySeekingSlender (DSS)Of course you can join… happy to have you. If you can start your posts with the Day # (corresponding to the date) and whether it’s a FD or NFD that would be great! Today we are on day 8 of this challenge.
JFitzy… I try to get home once a year … although sometimes its 18 months. My mother is 90 and I like to try to see her as often as I can. I lived in NY for the first 10 years and then moved to South Carolina 15 years ago. Can’t believe I’ve been away this long!
Itsmyturn… I haven’t told most people either. Some are horrified at the thought of fasting … of course I never thought I could do it either till I tried. In any case… just keep it to yourself and take the compliments as they roll in…. and they will.
    K-lo…enjoy your trip.
Maui.. congrats on the weight loss and Rocy65… I hope your knee feels better in time for your vacation.

    Day 9 / Australia / NFD

Looking forward to breakfast this morning after a successful FD yesterday, I do find it gets easier as you go. Whenever I felt hungry yesterday, I reminded myself about normal eating for today and i was okay.

I have to get my car serviced this morning, and apparently it will take 4 hours, so I am wearing my running gear to drop car off, and will run home (about 7km). Going to pack some money in my pocket so I can buy a really nice coffee when I get close to home.

Have a great day everyone 🙂

I am having a hard time finding time to post, so I had better sign off of this challenge. It’s a really busy time of year for me and I’ve barely had time to read the posts. I plan to continue with this WOL and check back here whenever I need inspiration. You are a great group of people! Thanks for all the encouragement, and I’ll see you around the forum.

UK day 8 – FD. Has gone reasonably smoothly today. I thought about just doing fluids, but I was pretty tired by tea-time, and about to help out at the local Cubs, so thought I’d better have most of my day’s calories. Managed not to over-indulge, though. Heading to bed soon, to remove myself from temptation.

Australia Day 9 NFD weigh in day – have lost 1.6kgs according to the scale but knowing how much I have (over) eaten this week I don’t believe it!

    London Day 8 Post 2

Coming to the end of my fast day, going to bed soon. Found it pretty tough this evening – trying to resist hunger and cravings (to top it off, my husband just offered me a packet of cashew!). I’m glad I still managed to keep it together 🙂

Talking about not telling people (itsmyturn and debbieQ), I made the cardinal mistake of telling my mother-in-law that I’m fasting. She immediately proceeded to advise me:
‘Is it good for you not to eat anything?…’
‘Maybe carry some glucose with you, just in case…’
    ‘Don’t you feel faint?!…’
BIG MISTAKE! should’ve kept my mouth shut. Then she proceeded to joke about it. My M-I-L is a lovely woman and I get on with her well, but she has a habit of imposing her ‘advise’ on everyone without considering the feelings or the situation of the other side. Anyway managed to distract her by changing the subject. I didn’t want to show her my irritation because it would have re-enforced her ‘advise’! Going to have to have a word with her about that – I’ll leave that to an NFD!

Rant over, thank you all for reading/listening. I’m off to bed, rather relieved that I still managed to persevere through it all. Tomorrow is another day – and it’ll be an NFD 🙂
    G’night all!

Hi Lisahawk please drop in any time to say hello and thanks for letting us know. What do you do for a living? Good luck on your journey x

Thanks for the good wishes DebbieQ, I’m Irish living in OZ for 35 years. I’m originally from NI.

Day 8/PA, USA/FD-water only (so far! A few mentally challenging hours left…)

I’m thrilled with the effects of fasting. I’m visibly thinner and it’s highly motivating. I’m really pushing the envelope because I’m going on vacation next week.

I have much work to do as far as making this a healthy way of life. It’s surprisingly easy for me not to eat, and not surprisingly difficult not to overeat when I do. That’s something I’m aware of and plan to work on after I return.

Positive thoughts to all! You ARE doing it! You WILL succeed!

Day 9 Australia NFD (yesterday also NFD)

    Day 9 Australia NFD
Have completed four fd’s since we started last week. I will only be doing two next week. Probably Tuesday and Thursday as it’s my daughter’s 9 th birthday on Monday so I’m working around that. Weighed in this morning and have lost 600gm which is a good result. So happy with moving downwards at whatever rate. I haven’t exercised at all this week as I have had a swollen disc in my back and have been out of action, though on the mend now thankfully. Really missed the exercise I have made into a regular thing at least five days a week. Also kind of proud of myself that I have done that as I do well for a while and then stop. So back to that as soon as I’ve recovered enough.
    Good luck everyone.

    Ireland day 8 fd

Strangest day today…coffee first thing and as it’s a fast day I decided I would wait til I was hungry to have my first bite only to look at the clock at 5pm still not feeling hungry….did eat but haven’t actually felt hungry all day…hopefully this trend continues into tomorrow and I stay pretty low then too…

    Day 8/ Minnesota, USA/ FD

FD has gone well. Coffee and water until 5 pm, then supper under 500 cals. Sautéed zucchini noodles (courgette) with butter, garlic, shallots and roasted chicken.

B2tF, I had a small serving of mushroom stroganoff from a 5-2 diet recipe book that is NOT from Dr. Mosely and Mimi, but a British journalist and novelist named Kate Harrison. Her web site claims she wrote the first book about 5:2. 😜 I looked at the site for awhile but my safari web browser didn’t like the site very well, and I got the spinning wheel. Her recipes are only available if you pay for them by downloading an e-book, as far as I could see. Or on Amazon. I’d never heard of her before. I looked her up on Amazon and the reviews were mixed. My OH brought the recipe home from work. He can’t remember how he came across it online. Anyway, It was not bad, but what isn’t good with creme fraiche? OH liked it a lot.

B2tF, after almost 5 months on 5:2, and now within 2.6 lbs of my (second) goal weight of 140, I also still count calories and occasionally weigh and measure portions. It amazes me how easy it is to start increasing portion size without realizing it. The occasional reality check is something I expect to need to do for the rest of my eating life! I suppose here in America we are so used to huge portions and super-sized meals that our perspectives are skewed. Anyway, as annoying as calorie counting can be (though fairly easy with a good phone app), it seems a small price to pay, for me, to have achieved almost 28 lbs gone and feeling so much better. I wish I could be more like you, Songbird, and not have to count, but I think my eyes often deceive me, and my ability to be in denial about my actual food intake is remarkable!

Elphaba, I think I found most of my FDs pretty easy until about a month or 6 weeks into it. Then I had the occasional tough one. My theory is that when you start losing a good amount of fat, not just water weight, your body increases your appetite to try to hold onto it’s fat stores. A hungry FD was often followed by very significant losses.

Hang in there, everyone, and good luck!
See you around the forums, Lisahawk, and I’ll look forward to seeing your posts again, in the future. Keep running and enjoying it!

Aussie day 9 yesterdays FD only lasted till midday lol so good that it can be done next day so today it is. Over 10,000 steps this morning have a good weekend everyone.

Day 9 / Australian in Asia / NFD

Hi all, just so you know I won’t be back in til Monday night as I am having a long weekend away with my best friend. There will be much wine, no exercise and very few smart choices, but that is called life. It’s also a rarity to have this chance.

So I will be back Monday, heavier but happier and ready to do a fast and get back on track.

Have a great and successful weekend everybody!

    Dead man walking/uk/day 8/NFD

Been busy working and redecorating my home so mostly been grab and go food. But all finished now. So hoping the rest of the this year and for the future i can stick with the fast days and eat more healthy on the none fast days. So this first week of my September challenge has been pretty shocking eating wise. But did weigh myself and have lost 11 pounds since i started including the 3 weeks before i signed up too the fast diet website. Glad i have signed up to the fast diet. And will be here forever more.

Have seen on here, alot of talk about sugar and different books on sugar. And the diet propaganda that we are forced fed every day of our lifes. Like the modern conception of breakfast cereal, morphing into grab and go breakfast bars. Truly worry about the future generations, obesity wise. 3 year olds are now having coke in there baby bottles. Its sadly only going to get worse. I truly think, as agricultural farming is what 12,000yr old and still pretty modern to humans. To the last 30 yrs of nothing but being told fat is bad, meat is bad while the consumption of chemicals preservatives and sugar sky rocket. Time too ditch the sugar/junk. eat healthy and fast like our ancient ancestors did. So many “experts” say that fasting is bad for us. But us being here today. Shows it did no harm to our ancient ancestors

They say, sugar is 8 times more addictive than crack cocaine and i believe it. Hopefuly week 2 of my September challenge will be easier and cleaner eating wise

    Croatia, Day 9, FD
    Weight: 77.5 Kg

    Day 9, DE, IF 20/4.

    Day 9 Italy – NFD
Yesterday’s Fast Day went ok until i found myself with a hand full of crisps in my mouth, but managed to stop there. Had a Portobello mushrooms stuffed with leek and feta cheese for dinner, it was lovely. After water only fasts it felt strange eating, think i prefer liquid only fasting where you really feel ‘the burn’.
Trying to stay light today as well hope to have a big salad at lunch and some grilled fish and veg for dinner.

Have a good Friday, wonderful, committed 5:2ers!

Day 8: Pacific NW USA, 500 cal FD – went over

Northern – you are at my goal weight so I’ll visualize joining you there in the months ahead! I read your post and googled “5:2 mushroom stroganoff” and there was her recipe, even watched her make it on YouTube, thanks! It was so delicious! Now to the 2nd part of your post when you mentioned portion control.

I decided to add a little beef and zoodles to the basic recipe. OH shopped for the ingredients and I made extra so he could have leftovers tomorrow. I ate a 400 cal serving then ate just that little bit more that did not fit in the leftover container. Then (I really feel ridiculous admitting my weakness on a FD) I went looking for food in the refrigerator and ate one more serving. The recipe was good but that cannot be my excuse – I was emotion eating, I’m pretty sure, because after 16 months the health insurance machine reared it’s head again today in the form of an officious voice on the phone demanding the same documentation all over again. I’ve fully committed myself to my health but this showed me how strong the return is to old habits. I gained all this weight by letting others be in control of my well-being, I can’t fall back into that quick sand of stuffing my feelings of powerlessness under food. I have the power to be in control of calorie planning, portion size and knowing 5:2 works. I feel uncomfortably stuffed, hope I can sleep, this was a good lesson.

    Gozo, Malta

Today is a fd for my husband and I. It’s salmon and salad for him and my daughter and a yougurt and banana for me for lunch. This evening it’s baked sea bass with salad for all of us.

This morning my daughter has an appointment with the padiatrition and immunization clinic for her baby son. At the moment I’m babysitting as my daughter sleeps.

Have a great Friday everyone. Stay strong.

    Day 9, Australia. NFD

Had planned a long liquid only fast day yesterday but it ended up as a 500 cal 40 hour fast. My tum felt sour and unhappy around 4pm so I had a salad with a few walnuts and almonds and apple cider as a dressing. I’m going to take note of what I eat the evening before my fast days just to see if that has a bearing on how my fast day goes…I hope that make sense!

Today I had ‘good food choice’ lunch and dinner today, well under TDEE.

Thanks for your kind thoughts Ciren2 & Pissupoosa, I’m much better today.

Hope everyone is travelling along nicely and getting benefits for the hard work…never stop trying. VP.

    London day 9

Well my experiment of eating carbs after exercise didn’t seem to work!! Good as gold all week and lost a measly .25lb 👺 However I am now on the last hole of one of my belts so the exercise is working and my clothes are looser. Will see what next week brings and will ditch the fruit to see if that has any effect. Hopefully will see the whoosh next week. Onwards and upwards as they say. Have a great day one and all 😎

    Cornwall UK Day 9
Successful FD yesterday and weight down 500gms.I had intended not eating until this evening but there is an avacado that needs eating so will have the for lunch with some raw veg sticks, need to eat up some bits before we leave on Sunday. Though I always end up taking remains of fruit and veg to our daughter!
Had a rethink for tonight and will have a lovely big salad.
Neostaford – quietly losing, well done!
Northern, you are also at my goal weight, I really look forward to getting there and know I will do on this wol. I read Kate Harrisons books, I got them from the library. I’m pretty sure she mentions Dr M in her book on the 5.2 diet. I got several of her books from the library.
Elphaba Have a great weekend with your friend! As you say life is for living! The really good thing about 5.2 is come Monday you’ll slot back into your FD and it feels so good to give your system a rest!
HollLJ – good to see you’re recovering and and back on track!x
B2f – been there so many times, I feel so in control then some glitch happens and the emotional eating starts! I’m really working on this and determined not to allow gative thoughts/people to break my resolve to get to my gaol and to stay there!! We can do this!!
    Fuvvie how are you doing?x
Debbie thankyou -I also hope my knee is better before my hols!! Just cleaned the house and now sitting with leg up and ice packs, next job is ironing but I can do that on a stool!
I am hoping that Ill be able to post while I’m away Ill certainly try! 19-23rd I hope to get signal!

    Stay strong everyone!

Day 9 / Tweed Coast Australia / NFD

    Love these ‘day after’ FDs!

Hunger waves from yesterday’s FD long gone and I woke up peaceful and in equilibrium with my hunger and energy levels. Even though my weight is the same as it was when starting this September challenge, today I felt light and good in my body and the pair of pants that used to fit snug were nearly falling off my hips!

My stomach feels like it shrunk from yesterday’s FD and it felt so good noticing that I wasn’t even hungry for any snacks.

As far as sugar goes, I’m better off without any. I weaned myself from ‘sugar’ over many years by moving from more to less refined and then finally giving it up altogether and life is better since I did. I was once a very addicted binger and feels so good to have found my ways out of that syndrome for the most part.

    US Day 9-NFD

I keep forgetting to log in at night! Maybe if I switch to the morning my memory will be better! The 7th was a fast for me that went pretty well. Yesterday and today are non-fasts. Most NFDs are pretty good for me, even if I splurge on something high in calories I don’t go over my TDEE. Counting yesterday as the first weigh-in of the challenge I’ve lost 2.4lbs. since the beginning of the challenge. I think that is more to do with coming of a plateau, however!

Day 9 UK NFD last minute decision to eat out last night at a pizza place, which wouldn’t have been my choice but both my kids will be heading off to uni very soon so I let them choose and have to admit it was delicious , will need to try and work it off though …onwards

I have the Kate Harrison cookbook (special offer on Amazon for my kindle )and I find the recipes very good ,and some of the back stories are very helpful

    Gozo, Malta

I have Kate Harrison 5:2 your life. I have another 5:2 cookbook by Liz Armond but always end up cooking from my cookbooks which have a calorie count or device the meals myself through calorie counting.

I’ve recently also bought four books of Justine Pattison with their title is added “without the calories” and on my feast days I cook from them to have healthier meals.

Onwards and downwards. Have a great Friday everyone. Stay strong.

    Day #9/USA/NFD

Sigh……scale is up a few tenths of a pound. Not really surprised as my NFDs have been filled with some less than ideal choices. Nothing to do but soldier on, right?

Weekends are always tough as I’ll be on the golf course and will have a few lite beers with my friends. I’m not willing to give that up, so have to deal with the fallout.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Sunshine Coast Day 9 NFD: I’m fine thanks Rocy65. Husband arrives home tomorrow. He’s been away for a month. We’ve got a lot to talk about to make some big changes. All takes its toll emotionally. Happy fasting everyone.

Day 9. NJ USA. Finishing up a 36-hour fast my 4th since starting 5: 2. It amazes me how good I feel – no real cravings yesterday. I did get hungry in the afternoon but just had a great big glass of ice water and it got me right through it . Quiet weekend ahead so I am planning to be very careful about eating lots of fresh and grilled veggies – definitely no snacking and absolutely no sugar. I can see how this can easily become a way of life I feel so much better on the day after the fast and my weight is dropping consistently thanks for all your interesting posts I learned so much from everybody have a great weekend.

Day 9. Atlanta, GA/ USA Finishing a FD on Thursday. I got major cravings towards the end of the evening before bed. I had a few grapes and loaded up on H2O. Went to bed feeling great though. I woke up to a great surprise. I had lost almost 2 lbs. since the 1st of September. Great motivator for hitting the gym this morning. I’m kinda worried about this weekend though. I get nervous about having 3 days of NFD time. I’m trying to focus on clean eating ( no fried, fast, or processed foods). Wish me luck you guys! I’m really enjoying reading you guys’ journeys they are very encouraging. It really helps a lot!

Day 9 USA (Utah – visiting)

FD for me today. Might be able to do an all liquid 30 hour fast, not sure, but I will try.

Debbie – likely I will not get to check in tomorrow unless it is late as I am flying home to Illinois.

I look forward to getting on my own scale rather than using the gym one here. I always weigh in first thing in the morning when I am at my lightest, and I’m anxious to see how this week away from home has gone.
