  • @norrieb

    Sorry for writing so short.
DE = country code for Germany
    IF = intermittent fasting
    20/4 = I fast 20 hours and eat 2 meals in a 4 hours eating window
23/1 = I fast 23 hours and eat one single meal around 1.000 calories.

This is the fasting pattern that fits me (I have insulin resistance and binge eating disorder for more than 10 years). I eat 100-150 grams of carbs/day, and up to 20% junk/week, to control the cravings and not binge.

Day 7 NFD. NJ USA good day yesterday stuck to TDEE until I broke down and had an ice cream cone – didn’t really want it but couldn’t get it out of my mind. Not as good as I remembered the the sugar jolt knocked me out Thankfor 1 1/2 hours – ugh. Felt uncomfortable all night. Sugar is not my friend! Today :
Lunch with the girls. Mah jong. Dinner with different
girls and then wine club. – once a month we taste 4 whites and 4 reds. Learn about the category fun and interesting. Thank God tomorrow is a FD . Finding I am looking forward to my 36 hours of liquids. Feel
so much better after fasting. Not sure about 4:3 – 5:2 seems to be working
. Cannot thank this forum and your daily import enough. I feel like I have the hand of a friend pushing me along every day when I read your posts thank you so much. I can relate to everyone’s problems in some way – makes me realize everyone’s the same we’re all in the same boat and we’re all there for one another thank you again

Day #7. Mountain West USA. NFD. I’m walking 4 miles again today. I’m Making steady progress. I’m so happy I found this site!. All of your posts have helped me so much to not eat when I am not hungry and to make healthy choices. Thank you all. Onward and downward. I think I am learning all the lingo and acronyms!

    London Day 7 NFD

I’ve managed to stay within my TDEE yesterday and so far today. But yesterday I failed my resolve to stay away from sugar – had a small piece of chocolate cake and a couple of Oreos at tea time, for a colleague’s leaving do! Still manage to save the day (just about) by just having a small soup and some veg for dinner.
TRX class after work made me feel better about it all anyway and the scales hadn’t budged this morning when I checked.

Still struggling with my sugar addiction (as you can see from yesterday’s trials!). Someone here recommended the book ‘Sweet Poison Quit Plan’ – a very practical guide. I’m trying work my way through it at the moment. Will let you all know how I get on.

Coda – thank you for the very inspiring post. I learn so much from these forums. Everyone is very supportive and understanding. They say ‘a burden shared is a burden halved’ – so true in this case. Makes me realise that everyone is going through a similar AND still unique journey ๐Ÿ™‚

Ciren2 – don’t be disheartened about the weight gain. As someone mentioned earlier (sorry, couldn’t find that post, so not sure who) maybe weigh yourself once a week. I used to do that – weigh weekly on a Fri AM once I’ve done 2 FDs of the week. Now I get on the scales everyday for the September Challenge, but I might go back to weekly again.

I’ll do another 36h fast starting tomorrow.
    All the best everyone.

US, Day 7, NFD. I could have sworn I posted this morning, but I don’t see it. Maybe I forgot to submit.

Anyway….FD ended with a gin cocktail..er, two. Not so good, but we perservere.

Fried on a tortilla this am. Lunch — the last of the stuffed eggplant leftovers and some pickles.

Gym tonight. Off to fill up my seltzer glass!

    Onward and downward!!!

    Itsmyturn; Pissupoosa, (and anyone else…)
I will try and join you both in a 36-hour fast tomorrow (Thursday) starting tonight, after falling off it today.
The secret is (they say) if you fall off the horse, get straight back on.
If I know I’ve got at least two buddies, it may help and stop me going into a failure-spiral. So, starting tonight and finishing at breakfast on Friday….let’s do this together.

    Dead man walking here.

I got logged out, password wasn’t recognised did a reset password 6 times everytime mins later same thing password not recognised. Emailed the fast site website and no reply. Its a great shame as i felt this site and monthly challenges was helping me big time. But if it happens again it will be pointless to join up again.

Day 6, Wednesday im forgetting the days lol/UK/NFD

Today was abit of a free for all. Run off feet all day. Mostly grab and go food.
    Two breakfast biscuits
    Chicken burger chips meal deal.
    Two plums
One pudding in a yoghurt pot thingy. Biscuit base cream fruit jam thingy on top. (Lol no idea what, im on about it was shoved into my hand so not gonna sit around and read the labels i cant turn down food thats my problem)

So need to get the none fasting days better on track cant live off junk food none fasting days never going too lose weight. My goal is too lose a stone to proof to myself that i can lose the weight. And treat myself to a new top of the range indoor exercise spin bike. Max user weight is a stone under me. So thinking this will be a great idea for a goal to work towards. As im enjoying hiit riding as messed up as that sounds lol

Hi all day 7 uk in Portugal
Having a great time but weather exceptionally hot for this time of year. Plenty of walking but I fear fluid retention is making me look about 6 months pregnant lol. I have tried to be mindful of my choices but have enjoyed the occasional treat – I am on holiday after all!
I remember some one telling me about a man who was burdened down with a weight he was carrying and a wise person said either do something about it or put it down and walk on past. When the scales are not kind, I accept it for what it is, an indication. I can’t do anything about what has past but I can move on, I have to move on or that burden just gets heavier. I think of this often if something has bugged me. I can let it fester in my mind, do something about it or just drop it and move on. The past is gone, the present is now but you can change the future.
The ones that keep trying are the ones who will succeed. Remember Robert the Bruce and the spider? One to Google if you are not familiar with the story.

The day of the challenge corresponds with date of the month ie September 7th = day 7

    Day 7 Sussex UK NFD
Good day – nothing until lunchtime then had a smoked salmon and egg salad and a cup of decaf tea.
Small handful of nuts when I got in from work and dinner will be tuna sauce with zoodles. Oh, and probably a glass of wine (or 2 ๐Ÿ˜‰).
Off for a couple of days walking to celebrate my birthday.

    Day 7 USA NFD
Was pretty careless with my FD yesterday. Invited out to lunch and thought the kale salad would be ok but there were a few walnuts and feta cheese that added calories. Should have skipped dinner but my OH was looking forward to the veggies with organic chicken breast so I had to cook which meant I couldn’t resist eating. All healthy foods but too much for a FD!! Scales were fairly kind this morning showing slight loss of .2 lb – but not much for after a FD. Thinking I will put MFP app back on my iPhone for tracking calories on FD. I can see myself sliding back into thinking I’m doing great but consuming way too many calories. Or I might try water FD next time..
Good luck to all our team members as we complete our first week of the September Challege! Keep up the posts sharing your journey – very educational , useful information and inspiring. I read them all. Such a great feeling to know we are all in this together!

PS someone mentioned apple vinegar on a post a few days ago. We had 1 Tbsp in glass of water before bed last night. We both feel like we slept better.

    Day 7 FD Leicester
First weigh in and I’ve lost 4LBs, very pleased. I alternated FD/NFD and did 4 FD. The spiralizer is brilliant, I’m so pleased I bought it. Veg chilli with Zuchini noodles – Delicious!!

    Day 7/PA,USA/NFD

Definitely getting smaller and loving the fasting periods. I’m not snacking between meals so that I get fasting hours on NFDs, too.

    Positive thoughts to all!

    Day 7:FD:UK
very busy day at work, drank only water & herbal tea, went walking for 30mins at lunch time. In the afternoon I had a diet coke. For my evening meal I had an
M&S calorie counted spag bol and added courgetti to this which was very tasty, and a total of 430 calories. That’s a quarter of my TDEE. Since that I’ve had a cup of tea, now going for a bath then bed. The hardest part of the day was my grumbly tummy (very embarrassing). The kitchen is now closed and that concludes this FD, next FD planned for Friday and I will eat the same. I will have to plan tomorrow’s meals to keep on track with my TDEE and really try to avoid mindless eating and rewarding myself with treats for everything and anything. Good luck everyone!

    2nd post
Just discovered that dancing around the deck to my favourite songs while waiting for the BBQ chicken to cook adds LOTS of steps to my pedometer.

    2nd post
Saltyseabird, “dancing on the deck ” sounds like good fun! Are you on a boat deck or land?

    Australia Day 8 FD

Sydney Australia, Day 8 FD. I have a team meeting all day today, with food provided. However, they provide the healthiest Vietnamese rolls that are so fresh and low calorie, that I think I will have about 4 of those (guessing about 300 calories, prob less). Then might have some raw vegies later on for dinner.

I was getting a little disheartened with the slow weight loss (on the scales anyway), but have done measurements after 1 month on the fast WOL, and I was really happy :). 6 cm off my waist and 2cm of thighs is healthy fat loss. I have also noticed a significant increase in energy, which is just making life (and exercise) easier. I absolutely love this and what it is doing for my body and state of mind.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Day 7 Cornwall UK
Ok so I’ve lost the plot, and the hunger trolls have hit big time!!

So tbis hasnt been the best day food wise, but it’s been a good day spent with good friends and i’ve had a good time.

    tomorrow I fast!

    Good luck everyone.

    Day 7 / FD/ Derby, UK

Huge thanks to Coda for your post. The thing that really sticks with me was the bit about sticking with it even if there are occasional gains/plateaus because, what’s the alternative? Yes, I am desperate to lose weight and yes, I have a lot to lose but I don’t find this diet difficult to stick to so why lose faith? The alternative is to get steadily porkier and that is NOT an option.
On a 36 hour fast and have clocked 189 calories in soup and milk/cream for coffee. Feeling much more positive and able to tackle my heft. Weigh in day tomorrow. Would love to see a lower number but know that I’ll stick to this plan regardless. Thanks again for the support everyone x

    Forgot to add…
I had some pretty serious trauma today: first day back to work after mat leave and spent four hours in A&E with my daughter. It would usually have sent me running for the comfort food, but I resisted. Fasting on a day like today means I can do it through anything!

On land – just the deck outside the garden doors. Warm evening and good music!

Hi Bethany sorry about your visit to A&E I hope all is ok but well done you!!! Turning to comfort food really doesn’t comfort anyone and as you say if you can stick to your guns on a day like today you can do it any day. Just keep in mind that feeling you had when you were in control. If we believe we can, we can achieve great things!
Rocy65 it’s all about balance, feast fast, glad you had a good time.

Aussie day 8 all is well FD today spring cleaning planned as my exercise today I find if i stay busy it keeps my mind off food stick with it everyone.

Sunshine Coast Aus Day 8 : NFD, 105.1kgs. That’s .9 kgs dispensed with yet again. I can remember when it was my goal to get down to 105kgs. Now my subconscious or set point seems to be getting back there all the time. Still it means I’ve still got the 18 kgs gone !! I too didn’t make it 36 hours of liquids, Ciren2. Come 5pm I fell into the container of nuts. I really have to cut them off my shopping list. Not that I ever plan a shopping list ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜–. Then we had chicken with Spiralised zucchini and carrot. So will have another bash at sticking to liquids today. Not beating myself up over it. Coldpizza calls it stabilising. Where is Coldpizza? And positiveinPA seems to be missing in action. Keep up the good week Neostaford, the very quiet achiever. I like the sound of your wine club Itsmyturn. How much of those 8 wines do you actually consume. Does your 36 hour liquid fast start before or after the wine tasting lol?๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‹
D.m.w.2: this site is worth signing into a thousand times if needs be. Don’t ever give up on us just because of a glitch in the technology. The company and encouragement you get here is worth your weight in gold and so are you. Keep doing whatever it takes. We are all here for you.

    Day 7/ Minnesota, USA/ NFD
Coffee and liquids until 4 pm and then a portion of roasted pork shoulder and roasted vegetables. Has left me completely satisfied. Still under 700 cals at 7:30pm. I usually don’t eat after this time, so it seems I got in a nice low-calorie day to add to my two FD calorie deficits this week. It all “adds up”, so to speak, to losses on the scale.
I spent much of the afternoon preparing food for future FDs. Easier to do on a NFD, but not tempted today. Tomorrow I will try the mushroom stroganoff (from the 5:2 Diet Book) which I prepared today, and add the homemade creme fraiche (that is maturing on my counter over night) when I reheat the stroganoff for dinner tomorrow eve. I did’t make the creme low fat, so it will have more than 70 cals per serving, but not by much, I think.

Happy Birthday (soon?), SaltySeaBird: keep on dancing! Bethany, I hope all is well with your daughter. There is nothing more stressful than sick children!
Ciren2, you can’t really gain that much weight in even a couple days. It’s water weight. It still feels awful, but it’s temporary. You’ll be ok with another FD or two. Keep the faith in 5:2, it’s gotten you to your best weight in 25 years!
    Good luck to all!

Day 7: Pacific NW USA, NFD

I’m really trying to get a handle on my (good news) lower TDEE for a NFD. Darn, when you lose weight you can’t eat as much! That is one of the best insights I’ve gained from this 5:2 WOL. For me it takes tracking the calories, re-learning and adjusting portion sizes. Siri on my phone is getting a constant workout, “How many calories in . . .”

FishingGran – you have the real Hitchcock experience with your birds down under!

SaraL – welcome to where we meet up daily in our cyber cafe! We’ll be looking forward to sharing thoughts and support with you.

Ciren2 – I’ve decided the scales just give us an estimate of upward or downward trends over time, not any one point in time. I stepped on my scale 6 times this morning, got different readings and logged the one that came up 3 times. That coupled with the fact I had not “eliminated” yet, had drunk some water with my morning vitamins and had some water retention from exercising in the heat yesterday – so no weigh-in can perfectly correlate with another. Your fasting is what counts, not fates fickle finger forcing the numbers on the scale to move. (Ha!)

Norrie – wise advise about not having to always compensate but rather finding a steady pace.

Maui – I’ll try the vinegar before bed tonight!

Delilah and Neptune – congrats on there being less of you!

Bethany – hope your daughter is OK, even though I’m not sure what A&E is? Something emergency?

Northern – the mushroom stroganoff sounds delish but I don’t have the book, I’ll see if they have it on the site. I love creme fraiche! I think Mimi Spencer’s recipes are great.

    Australia, Day 8, FD

I can’t remember if I checked in yesterday, it was a busy NFD and I’m sure I went over my TDEE but it’s done and I’m not wasting any energy on torturing myself. I intend for this to be a lifestyle change and not a fad so I expect to hit speed bumps now and again.

Today I’m laid up unwell so I’ve decided to do a liquid only FD.

Well done Ciren2, I loved reading of your success.

    Croatia, Day 8, NFD
    Weight: 77.2 Kg

    Day 8, DE, IF 20/4.

    Day 8 – Switzerland – FD

Finally tracked a whole day on MFP, ate up to my TDEE and this morning the scales say 90.1kg which is a 2.6kg loss from last week, mostly fluids I’m sure but nice to see all the same.

Good luck to everyone else weighing in today!

    Bring on Challenge Week 2!

Sorry positiveinPA. Didn’t see you there. Sounds like you’ve got on top of the snacking.
Love the attitude, VioletP, of not wasting any energy torturing yourself. It is so easy to fall into that trap and then spiralling out of control.
    That’s a great loss and….exhale. Well done.

Day7/USA. NFD. I went a little over my TDEE. Visited with family from out of town. Gluten free pizza and wine and dessert most likely put me over my limit. Tomorrow will be a FD. Stay strong. Tomorrow is a new day.

Day 8 / Australian in Asia / FD

    Good morning all

Deadman, glad you managed to log on somehow, even if it did require a new account.

My fast days this month have been “on point”, no dramas, not difficult, nothing but water til 200 odd calorie dinner, all good. But like you DMW I have really struggled with the NFD. Normally I don’t, I’m really good and eat way under my TDEE so I can have a blowout on Friday or Saturday nights and not worry about it.

But since the buffet on Tuesday night I seem to have woken my hunger dragon (not sure who it was that came up with that term – it was someone on here and so I’ve borrowed it, I like it). I just want things I can normally leave alone, at least until Saturday night. I want hot chips, I want chocolate, I want a million loaves of fluffy white bread. Even when I do eat bread it’s wholemeal so I don’t know what’s going on!

Anyway, quite relieved to have a FD today – I think I need it. Although it’s the hardest FD I’ve done since I started early August. I’m doing it tough, that’s for sure. But I will not cave in. I refuse to. Especially since I have a girls weekend away this weekend and I want to enjoy it without guilt or counting calories.

Anyway, have a great day everyone. Huge congrats to everyone who is doing so well. To anyone who is doing it tough – stay strong, take it one day at a time. We’ve got this.

    Day 8 Australia FD
Fasted yesterday and still no loss this week, instead 100gms up. So decided to do another fd. Hoping to finally lose something tomorrow. I know this happens but really keen to be heading down not up! I haven’t been able to do my normal water fasts with visitors.
B2tf my phone is very familiar with the “how many calories in ..?” Question too. Thank goodness it is so easily accessible now. I love Google! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
    Good luck everyone.

    Gozo, Malta

I weighed myself this morning and I’m 67.9 kilos down from last week by 0.9 kilos. I’m happy but happier with clothes fitting loosely and getting into clothes that were too small for me. I’m more energetic also. Love what this way of life has done to me. My intention this September is to start aerobic and/or yoga/Pilates classes and start walking to step up my exercise. I would like also to lose two kilos more if possible. My bmi is now 25.6.

Today is a nfd for me and I had coffee with milk and breakfast sponge that amounted to 150 calories. For lunch it’s a traditional Gozo cheeselets with sausages and potatoes enclosed pizza and maybe I’ll have something light for supper. The local pizza is high in calories but I treat myself once in a while as I love it. We get it from one of our small town bakers. I already ordered it and will pick it up at noon or when my husband returns from work. My daughter is sleeping and I’m babysitting again. It’s a public holiday and the last fiesta of summer is today. It’s the feast of the baby Madonna (mother of Jesus).

It’s lovely to read all your posts. I get motivated and learn from them. I realsise we are in the same boat and want to live a healthy and fitter life. I think modertion and planning are the key to success long term. We have to plan what to eat so we don’t go bingeing on food and we do lose weight in the process and moderation is the key to stay a healthy weight during weight lose and when we reach our target weight.

I hope you all enjoy this Thursday. Onwards nfd downwards.

Day 8: Gloucestershire,(Cotswolds) UK: Non-fast day….again. Sorry to my 36-hour liquid-only buddies VioletP and any others who are doing it today.
Fuvvie: it’s those NUTS…so healthy, yet more-ish, combined with being off from work for this week. Just to think, until recently I swore I never even liked nuts, until I actually tasted them with an open mind, with the view to try and replace the chocolate and sugar in my diet! So, I’ve eaten a big breakfast etc. etc. It may be that I will just relax a bit until I go back to work on Monday before fasting again.
Voilet: Get well soon, and good luck with your 36-hour fast.
Bethany: Best wishes. Hope all is well with your daughter.

Day 8 / Tweed Coast Australia / FD

It’s been a good FD. Felt the hunger as it waved through me this afternoon and realized what respect I have for every single person who is giving this WOL a ‘go’ because it isn’t easy even though the difficulty is worthwhile.

FishingGran – Even the Magpies that I hand feed and that recognize me still swoop during nesting season. I can’t go for a walk in any of the streets around our house because I’m sought out if I do. If I want to walk outside, I have to get into the car and drive a distance away, preferably to the beach where there are no Magpies.

Magpies swoop from behind. They silently approach like a stealth bomber and sock you in the back, shoulder or head and sometimes gouge with beak at same time.

    Day 8 Italy -FD
Yesterday kept to TDEE, today fasting until dinner then having Parma ham and fresh figs.
Dmw2 i echo Fuvvie when she says Stick with this. Even if you have to log in 100 Times. It sounds like you’re doing well.

    Sunny London Day 9 ๐Ÿ™‚
Went to dinner last night so not sure if I went over my TDEE. However I did swim yesterday morning so hopefully that will have helped! FD for me today and I am saving my calories for tonight for my dinner – turkey mince courgettie spaghetti!!

Will also try and do HIIT tonight as I didn’t swim this morning.

Have a good day one and all x

    Oops day 8 ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 8 UK fairly good FD yesterday ,did get the munchies late afternoon but as I was preparing the evening meal at least it was only raw veg . Got weighed yesterday – no change. But I can see the some difference so that’s spurring me on , going to leave it for a few more days then hopefully it will be going in the right direction

Coda -Good to hear you’re enjoying Portugal

    HannahW- you’ve been a bit quiet – hope you’re not struggling ?

    US DAY 8 NFD
    VP.. feel better soon
Lael โ€ฆ I remember the magpieโ€™s from when I lived in Ireland. Iโ€™ve never seen any here in the US. I remember also that if I saw only one I would deliberately search out another .. hated the thought of โ€œone for sorrowโ€ ๐Ÿ˜Š

It’s now been a full week on the challenge for all of us (I know Australia/NZ more than US) and I know we’ve had ups and downs but I think most are really concentrating on nfd’s and planning and eating well. Let’s keep the momentum going.

I’ve dropped the following from my list which will still leave us with 60 participants…Some have never checked in and some seem to have fallen by the wayside.

Debbie Q where in Ireland are you from or where did you live? ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi everyone! Day 8 for me. So far I’ve had 3 FD’s, I started the Monday before the 1st. I’ve maintained my weight thus far. Looking to see results soon. I continue to workout 7 days a week as I had before I started the 5:2. I usually do strength training 3 days a week and cardio 4 days a week. Is anyone doing and exercise?

Hi theralwil78 I also do quite a bit of exercise. I swim, do pilates classes and I am doing HIIT at home 2 or 3 times a week. I am going to introduce weights into my HIIT sessions in the next couple of weeks as I used to do 2 weight training sessions in the gym every week but then I had a knee problem so had to give up! ๐Ÿ™‚

therealwil.. I put you back on the list. Sorry… I thought you had dropped off ๐Ÿ˜Š
JFitzy… I grew up in Dublin and lived there till I moved to the US 25 years ago.

    Thanks DebbieQ!! I’m still here!

Oh by the way : Atlanta, Ga/ USA.
