  • Day 5. Qld. NFD
Looking forward to weigh in day on Saturday. I’m doing well so far this month but am lacking in energy and feel tired a lot lately.
I’m going to an All-white party Saturday and have already purchased a gourmet food hamper and 2 bottles of wine (between 2 of us), so no Dry September.
Tuesday’s mean dinner at my mother-in-laws, so fasting is out and it can be hit and miss whether we have a healthy dinner or not. I usually skip dessert and try to be controlled during the day. Shows how my attitude has changed since starting this WOL, I used to use Tuesday family night as an excuse to binge all day. Yay, for little changes, all helping to making us healthier, happier people.

    Day 5 Chester UK NFD

Yesterday’s FD went well, apple for lunch then pork steak with veggies for tea. Had a bowl of mixed fruit for mid evening snack so reckon I finished the day on about 550 Cals.

Note to self though – please remember to drink water earlier in the day. I got to about 4pm, realised I’d not had much water so drank about a litre and a half later on. Makes for a restless night!

Today will be a controlled day, was hoping to do a long walk but now have to wait in for a parcel, don’t you hate it when the delivery will be sometime in the day and can’t be left with a neighbour or in a safe place.

Oh well tomorrow’s another day. Onwards fellow fasters- we’re all doing positive things just by logging on here.

@debster251 – The UK seems to be more advanced when it comes to protein in the diet. However I also saw a BBC documentary where there lots of people using supplements in the UK. I’m sure the US is worse that way. Anyway 55g / day sounds reasonable for a man. Not only would it replace the protein lost it still provides more than muscle could be built in a day, keeping in mind that muscle is mostly water by weight.

    Day 5 – Woking, UK – NFD
    239.7lbs
Within touching distance of being under 17st. Off on a short business trip (out to Munich today and back tomorrow night) so may not manage my usual fast day tomorrow. I’ll see how it goes. We have an all day global management meeting 8am – 6pm then I’m on a 9pm flight back.

Day 5 UK NFD happy with yesterday’s fast ,aiming for a decent controlled day today

    Day 5 North Wales NFD

Had a really successful fast day yesterday. Went from 7pm until 8pm without food. I broke my fast with a spicy green salad which I am sure was under 500 calories.

@debster251 I will have been retired 2 years at Christmas. I am so pleased I retired when I did because that first year my mother became very ill and subsequently died and my daughter had a baby. Not working meant I was able to help them both even though they lived 3.5 hours away.

    Day 5, London, UK, FD

@molij yes, B2B2B means 3 FDs done Back 2 Back 2 Back, maybe next time you’ll join our list of B2B2B POCKETEERS!!!??

B2B2B+ LIST OF POCKETEERS, Keep this list in your pocket, whip it out and fondle it lovingly when you need added support during this mini challenge…….… IT’S ONLY 3 DAYS!!!!!
    @flourbaby
    @basyjames
    @taraga (2nd of B2B2B2B)

How are my fellow ‘Dry-winos’ doing (Thanks @bert1802, you know you’re an honorary member, right??) no issues here…… we’ll see what the weekend brings as that’s my ‘danger’ time!!!

Hhmmm @debster251…. forgot about the Aladdins cave we call the garage!!!!!!

Stay strong everyone, keep the faith in this WOL, it really does work!!!!!

    Norway, Day 5, FD (2nd in a B2B)

Today I feel much better about the fast. It is really SO much easier when I am at work.
Yesterday I was out voting (we have a governmental vote here next Monday, very excited to see the result!), and I bought myself a not-so-healthy snack to enjoy tomorrow when I break my fast. I find it is nice to have something I relaly relly want to look forward to when I fast, especially on my B2Bs. But regularly I try not to go into a store on my FDs, just to avoid temptation.

It is soon lunch here, and I will enjoy a greens-only salad with a splash of vinegar, and for dinner I have low fat cottage cheese with ham and an egg.

Tomorrow I go away on a business trip and I won’t see the kids for a couple of days, and they will be at their grandparent’s place this weekend as we are having a housewarming party (bought our very first house last December). I am not looking forward to being apart from them. But then again I do look forward to sleeping all through the night and sleeping longer than until 05:30.

Pocet winos: I am sorry to say I will induge largely and happily this weekend, haha! We don’t get to party too much, so when we do, we have to do it properly! Skål!

Today is me and my husband’s 9th anniversary as a couple. No celebration, we can celebrate at the party this weekend. I am trying to concinve him to tell everybody that we are married (we married in secret 3.5 years ago), but he is reluctent.

    Happy fasting everyone =)

@maayyaa Takk, ja når du sier det på den måten så var det jo egentlig en seier. Føltes IKKE sånn mens det stod på, haha! Gratulerer med ledelsen forresten, jeg skal prøve å ta deg igjen i september, IT IS ON! 🙂

    Day 5, UK, FD

Dry September seems to be getting easier for every day. Hoping the sacrifice will be reflected on the scales in 26 days time!

Second post: just a quick update on last month’s figures.

Of the people who posted a final weight, and excluding the maintainers, over 140 lbs was eradicated last month.

    NOW THAT’S A RESULT!

@molij. Our stories are very similar. My mum was very poorly when I retired – that was a factor in my decision to quit. No babies yet, but I remain ever hopeful!

Well done everyone 140lbs eradicated and thank you @debster 👏👏👏👏

    2nd post

Oh. My. Goodness. I broke really really hard today, not sure why. However, the reason I’m so far over TDEE is I had my cheat meal at lunch, which is normal for a second Tuesday, and then I went home and cooked this massive roast lamb with a parsley sauce, bread, roasted garlic, Moroccan pumpkin, brussel sprouts with bacon, and then (my big weakness) sauteed peas. Those peas were what made me lose control, they’re just so good, and I swear they were eyeballing me across the table, taunting me. Now, I know this meal doesn’t sound unhealthy, but it was. It was full of heaps of butter and fat, which is also why it was extremely delicious. It was a special occasion, so I went the extra mile.

But anyway, I ate a lot. Even after a really enormous lunch.

    Two days calories!

    In one day!

I’m in shock, but I think it’s good to be shocked by how much you can eat if you’re not on top of yourself. Usually I plan out what I’m going to eat the day before and stay on track, but I planned my lunch and not my dinner, and see how wrong that went! Anyway, don’t know if anybody is reading this, but I needed to write what happened. Own up.

Tomorrow is a new day 😊

    Day 5 Melbourne, Australia, NFD
Well it was meant to be a FD but I’ve just come down with a chest and sinus infection and have spent the day (after seeing my respiratory specialist – good timing!) in bed.
I will get better, I need to remember that, it’s just been a tough 6 weeks. I WILL stick to this WOL. I love reading about everyone’s struggles and their successes as it inspires me.
Hopefully I’m back to it before too long.
Keep going everyone, let’s make it a good September!

Day five Newcastle UK 🇬🇧 NFD.
That’s pretty good 140lbs collectively give yourself a pat on the back well done.

@losing_it how delicious. I hope you savoured every mouthful.
@melf123 I’m sorry you are unwell. How is your little one?

    Day 5……Florida…… FD

    140lbs destroyed…… Congrats to everyone!

I think the Chinese food has finally caught up with me, did see a bit of an up tick on the scale this morning. It’s probably not that but that’s at least what I’m blaming it on!
A FD is a must! And more water too!

Spent nearly all day deep cleaning my kitchen, getting rid of the crap we don’t need and just have accumulated over the years. Not even done yet…… My goal for Sept. is to downsize our junk, getting my house into a better state of mind. Not that my house is dirty mind you but too big. I want to downsize, the boys don’t want to, so this is my resolve.

Also, paying close attention to Miss Irma who headed this way. The weather man says it’s a bit to early to give a definite on where she’s going to go, but even if she doesn’t hit us directly, we are in for some nasty weather. I’ll keep you all updated, but if I go dark, just know I’ll be back as soon as I can.

@dyskak…… some interesting facts on protein. I put it on my list to research, but it’s like 6th on the list, so it might be a couple weeks before I get to it!

    @flourbaby….. I’m a proud member!

    Okay, well I’m off……

P.S…… the new cukes, we planted are starting to bud. I think, we may just make it this year!

My husband told me to stop acting like a flamingo, so I had to put my foot down!

    Day 5 – UK – NFD

My first fast yesterday went really well..and feel so much better already.
Looking for a controlled day to-day – no bingeing and keeping to my tdee.
    Ever hopeful x

    Day 5, Gozo Malta, fd

Yesterday I ate around 900 calories but I’m still calling it a fast day.

Today is my second fast day.

FlourBaby tomorrow I plan to fast too doing a B2B2B fast days. So I’m joining you in this.

Have a great Tuesday everyone onwards and downwards

    Day 5, Wales, NFD

Yesterday’s FD went well, 600 cals, no hunger and slept well. My body is now liking FDs – quite a change from the early days of headaches, dizziness and tummy rumbles.

We did great in August and judging by the enthusiasm amongst us this month we could do even better.

@bert1802 – fingers crossed Irma keeps out of your garden, keep safe.

    Happy Tuesday all x

    Day 5 – France – NFD

Good FD yesterday and generally feel more in control. @steve I believe it was you who suffered from dry patches before. Well I did too and they went. Bingeing over the hol period made it all come back … so now with the FDs, no sugar and am seriously watching bad carbs, they’re clearing up again. Neat, eh!

    @debster 140!!!!!!! That’s amazing. Well done team 🙂

@onahealthyhigh Big thank you for the link. I didn’t know futurelearn but can’t wait to get my teeth into something there

    Dentist day today (aaaaargh).

    Hugs to all x

    Day 5- Colorado USA- FD

Ooph! Needing this FD after a 4-day long Holiday weekend with too much delicious food.
My belly is looking forward to relaxing!

@njgirl — hope your plan is still working well for you. It’s called One Meal A Day (OMAD.) You reap the benefits of 24-hour intermittent Fast, but get to eat dinner with the family every night, so everything looks normal to them.
My OH gets cranky about my Fasting, he doesn’t like to eat alone. Thinks it’s weird if he’s eating & I’m not having the same foods. Not supportive, to say the least. So with OMAD, I can Fast all day, then eat a fairly normal dinner with him each night. Some call that 23:1. My aim is to do this Monday thru Thursday, then have Controlled NFD on Fri/Sat/Sun.

So far it’s working! Best of luck to you on it too!

    Day 5, South Wales, NFD/16:8

@debster251 – thanks for posting the stats for August, 140lbs is a great result for the group!
@bert1802: hope that Irma stays out of your way
@flourbaby @bigviking and @awilson – seriously impressed with your dry September! Inspiring me to go for ‘Dry til Fri’as a mini-challenge….

    Day 5, USA, FD

Had a very good controlled day yesterday; not planned, just fell out that way. All up, actually, a good weekend. Onahealthyhigh (and other pocket winos) you’ll be most impressed that I cracked open a bottle of wine on Sunday, and had one glass. ONE glass!

Spent much of Labor Day reading Wheat Belly by William Davis. Scary stuff, and while I’m not gluten-intolerant I know that I do get a bloated feeling if I have too much bread over a 48 hour period. So I’m now going to make a conscious effort to reduce wheat from my diet (think it will be too hard to eliminate it completely).

Rainbowsmile: I don’t know why some days are harder than others, but know that’s definitely the case. For me, if I’m feeling flat or fed up, I want to fill that feeling with food (how’s that for alliteration!) A positive mood makes it so much easier to eat mindfully or breeze through a FD. Not sure if there’s something pleasurable (non-food variety!) you can indulge in to help that empty feeling?
And who is it who calls the scales “Cruella”? My scales showed a 3kg increase over the weekend and I know that’s not accurate. I am feeling lighter in myself and even moved a pair of jeans to the “fat pile”.

Happy anniversary Mari84! Got out and celebrate and be proud to have had 9 fab years together!

    Day 5 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

What terrific results for August! The 140 pounds destroyed is incredible! I truly think these challenges and the camaraderie they engender make all the difference to most all of us!

Busy day for me -hope to catch up on posts later on. Onward and downward!

    Day 5 USA FD(3rd of B2B2B)
@awilson Have a good trip to Seattle and I hope the move goes well. We too have horrible air quality because of all the fires. I am really noticing it today and they are saying the air quality is so poor that you should do nothing outside. It’s going to be a nasty one because it is also very warm and a lot of us don’t have A.C. Prayers for all the folk in the western USA that are being evacuated because of the many fires .

I’ve been having good FD in part because it is so hot I don’t want to eat! I’m also having a more controlled relationship with peanut butter– I’m with whoever said that they don’t need the pocket wino group as much as the pocket peanut butter group! P.B. and I are going to take a break from one another this week!🙂

Hi can I join the September challenge please.

    Day 5-U.K.-NFd

Plan on doing my first fast of the month tomorrow. Thanks.

    Day 5 – UK – FD

Congratulations everyone on our 140lbs!!! Let’s try and beat it this month!

I am doing 3 fast days this week and hopefully I can offset my brilliant but TOOC (totally out of control) weekend and hopefully destroy a few more fat cells.

On a fast day I too try to eat within a window of 1 or 2 hours. I hope it brings the health benefits that we read about and this also enables me to eat a meal in front of my family as others have mentioned. I also feel better going to bed without a rumbly tummy. I do drink a lot of tea with skimmed milk through out the day. It seems to be working so I will keep going for now. If I am really hungry I have had a 50cal slim a soup and this works a treat to keep me going.

    Day 5 Akron OH FD.

    Day 5 – USA – NFD

@laurealice, I too am visiting the dentist today..ugh. @mari84, happy anniversary! @penz, may I suggest you investigate other flours besides wheat that can be substituted to make bread, i.e., almond flour or coconut flour. Lots of recipes on YouTube. @happymargo, we’ve had this conversation before about unsupportive spouses on 5:2…mine is the cook, and he has grown accustomed to my FDs for the past 8 mos.; he just fends for himself. On NFDs, I eat one meal with him, but I avoid the carbs and make a salad instead. @liathanail, it’s great to see those numbers inching downward, isn’t it? @losing_it, your fat and butter laden meal sounds delicious; some low-carbers (like me) would call that a healthy meal! @melf123, feel better! @bert1802, thinking of you and yours this week as you brace for Irma. @jarbia, you’re back in the saddle, good for you! @basyjames, please add my BFF Chitowngal to the spreadsheet. Her FDs are Monday and Friday. She did not do a FD this past Monday as it was Labor Day, but this week she will fast Wed. and Fri. @debster251, Chitowngal’s last weight in August was 139.

Day 5 FD St. Louis USA
Good luck to everyone who is fasting are maintaining today.

All my best and may the fast be with you

Hello day 5 NFD Co Down NI

Good fast day yesterday and a game of squash with OH – beaten in all 5 games but he had to fight for them – I felt really good and much prefer playing on fast days.

Have caught up on all the posts and have a few notes but will post later – just one thing @basyjames is there a way to sort the names on the spread sheet alphabetically? Didn’t want to play around in case I messed things up. I have added a few names that I noticed were missing and recently joined but added them in order, others seem to be added at the bottom or out of order ie Smartmart in in the M’s. Thanks

Day 5 ( late) country West Australia NFD
    Day 6 ( almost) FD – hopefully.
Was toying with the idea of joining the pocket winos dry September but went to dinner tonight and a delightful little red whispered that it would slip down so smoothly I would barely know I’d imbibed and guess what – it did!
Also had a rather nice Sav Blanc on Sunday…. and Saturday …. and dinner Friday…..🍹😲

    Day 5, Belfast, FD
    Day 4, Belfast, NFD

Today HAD to be a FD…my summer indulgence is over and out!!

@basyjames – can you please add me to the spreadsheet so I can update my terrible behavior lol 😉

Just had time to start a Pocketeers List for Day 5.
    Hope I haven’t accidentally included/left out anyone.

    Day 4 UK FD

    2nd of 5 day B2B!

Yesterday was harder than today. But managed to stick within 600kcal and resist the temptation of a late snack that was calling me like a Siren on the rocks! Just the fact that I’d have to own up to y’all was enough to stop me though 🙂

Not sure what I’ll eat tonight, which is always a wee bit dangerous.

Doing it all over again tomorrow. So adding me to the list.

    Norway, day 5, FD

Feeling good, only a little bit hungry from time to time. Looking forward to an evening meal, even though I don’t really feel like I need it. But I am going to eat, so tomorrow is not completely ruined. I have a full days wotk, and then I will travel to Germany for a short trip, so I don’t want to feel weak tomorrow.

Excited to see what the scale shows tomorrow morning…

    Happy fasting!

Day 5 USA FD. Hello yesterday was a bad FD:(. I will do it today. Good day everybody!

Day 5 McMinnville Oregon USA – NFD
I would like today to be a FD but it’s my first day in Seattle and not sure what to expect. Coffee pot was packed away and so I had to go out this morning in search of some. ☕️ FD may be my only option. 😄
Had a terrible nights sleep, it was so hot and nephew has no air conditioning. 😬 The sun this morning is a bright red ball in the sky from so much smoke in the air, and ash on my windshield. Enough whining.

@mogaman – Our weather in the Pacific Northwest sure seems to be getting hotter and dryer. How do you like Massachusetts?

@bert1802 – I hope Irma skirts your area of Florida.

    @flourbaby & @bigviking – Thinking of you!! 💪

    Day 5, USA (NJ), FD

Well, the holiday weekend is finally over and I’m glad to be fasting again today. I find it much easier to simply not eat than to count calories and worry over food choices. My holiday weekend consisted of 3 B2B “somewhat” controlled NFDs. My food choices were not always the best but they were definitely not the worst either! We ate out 3 times and although I did enjoy 1 or 2 glasses of red wine with my dinner I never once indulged in dessert. Anyone that knows me should be shocked right now! 🙂 That was a big deal for me since in the past no meal would be complete without dessert. I haven’t weighed myself since Friday because I’m scared….simple as that! I can own that. I will wait until the end of the week to check my progress.
Good luck to everyone as they progress through this life-long challenge!

    Day 5–MA, USA, FD

Yesterday was a good fast day, and today I’ve been so busy (first day back with students) that I’ve not had a chance to even feel hungry. Pausing for my “lunch” now, having some tea, and feeling satisfied. Plan to make a nice salad with some grilled fish for dinner.

    Day 5, Emden Germany, NFD

We did really well in August, 140 lbs is a lot of weight to get rid off. Well done everyone.

Day 5, Rocky Mountains, US, NFD

    2nd post

Sat here sipping my de-caf black coffee. Sure hope this Dry September is reflected on the scales at the end of the month!

    Day 5 London NFD

    Day 5—ABQ—FD

My daughter came to visit for the long weekend and wanted to go to the Harvest Wine Festival, which we followed up by a visit to our local brewpub, so we had a pretty OOC day on Sunday! Yesterday also OOC but less so.

At the festival, I drank the most delicious Chambourcin in the world. Mr. Sheehan of Sheehan winery said that if I wanted to grow the Chambourcin grapes here in the Rio Grande Valley, he’d trade them for wine, so now I need to order some cuttings from New York. Not sure I qualify as a pocket wino since I’m more interested in beer and bourbon, but damn that was good!

Losing_it—It sounds like you are an amazing cook. I would happily break hard for that meal.

@awilson and @krisnia—We are getting smoke from Montana all the way down here in Albuquerque. It must be terrible where you are!

@metatauta—My OH had a hard time accepting the new WOL at first, calling it a “starvation diet” instead of what we all know it is. Now he asks, when he makes a dinner request, if it will work with my diet (yeah, he still calls it a diet which, literally speaking, it is). I need all the support I can get.

    Day 5 Portland, OR FD

@Baseyjames please add me to the September challenge.

I just updated my stats for the August Challenge. I was 6 pounds down in August, exceeding my 5 lb goal….. until the last 10 days when for a variety of reasons I did not work out and I was not diligent in my food choices. So I logged a 4lb loss in August which is 8 lbs gone since I began in late July. I’m pretty happy about that. And more importantly, I am undeterred. I expect there will be more of those ten day periods that come up over the next few months. But if I can accept them as part of the journey and weather the ups without forgetting the cumulative downs, I feel like this is truly my WOL.

Day 5 – SW WA USA – FD

Going for a 2nd FD @flourbaby, I’m kind of taking a day at a time but probably going for some type of FD several days in a row.

@debster251 – hooray for 140 lbs dispatched in August!

    @mari84 – Happy Anniversary!

Weather really is an issue – a group from my church is running down a relief trailer full of goods for Houston, while the south waits for another possible hurricane. Here in the west, it’s forest fires. It’s raining ash where I am & all outdoor activities are cancelled at school.
