Day 6 – Ireland 🇮🇪 -FD 1st of B2B2B
Well, that didn’t go as planned!
Instead of my CD, we went out en famille to the local pub for lunch where I had the gourmet burger with chips, 2 pints of Guinness, but, my only redeemer, no dessert 😱 My step granddaughter is only 18 months and toddling about so we did not settle into the pub for long. Great to see them though, and that’s why this WOL is great, because today….
RESET 👍 Finger firmly placed on the button and off we go.
Apple and Oxo cube for lunch, chicken and sprouts for dinner, plum and kiwi for dessert….about 460 calories.
In three days time I fly off to Valencia so want to get the head down, mouth shut, and shift some weight…before the Spanish treats of next weekend 🏁💃🍷🍾🍺
Day 5, NFD, New Zealand
Day 6, FD, still New Zealand. A good day, had a delicious breakfast of strawberries with mint and lime, home-made granola and yoghurt (336 cals), a miso sachet to quieten the tummy rumbles about 1pm (20 cals), and then an omelette (185 cals) this evening with an apple (100) for dessert. So, 640 cals. I don’t sweat the small deviations from the 500 cals on a FD because I know that it’s better to do as much as I can rather than get obsessed with whether that crunchy, juicy, sweet apple is going to throw me off course. And 640 is way, way lower than what I was eating daily last month. Chocolate, icecream, biscuits – woah, I was eating 640 cals just in snacks alone.
Update – Fast is going easy. Currently my problems are with fasting, it is after breaking the fast I typically have to be close to a bathroom for awhile.
Today I’ve started to notice that my fat feels and even looks a little different. It is like it is just hanging inside the skin. I’m really struggling with the fat left on my mid-section. While it isn’t a huge amount, it does hid the abs. Hopefully this is a sign that fat is finally under stress. 🙂
Day 6 Athens NFD
Enjoying some lovely sunshine and beautiful food. I have managed to avoid the many pastries on offer but will indulge a little before I leave..👍
@jessyoursize Congratulations on your new job. Doesn’t it feel good to be wanted!
@dykask – glad to hear your daughter has settled. You just have to hope and trust.
@Daffodil great progress. You’ll be nicely set up for your holidays.
@fatrabbit I have loads of water and milk kefir. If you’d like email me your address and I’d be happy to pop some water grains in the post. BTW I’m SOOOO impressed with your waist loss. I wish… I can’t seem to shift those inches even though I had a month sugar and alcohol free ( I actually don’t drink know that much) and espite the scales steadily going down my waist doesn’t seem to go down the same.
@phil Taylor I use My Fitness Pal to log. It’s quite flexible.
@mogaman well done on your 14 lbs. A great achievement.
Big Viking 🌟🌟
@tsubaki – last month has gone. A little loss is as good as any big one.
@rainbowsmile my heart goes out to you. Life really has dealt you a rotten blow recently. Sending you (?hugs))
@daffodil 2010 it’s a long wait to the 27th! Fingers crossed for a good outcome and enjoy the moto GP
It’s funny to see different responses to climate. It’s about 20 degrees C here and everyone’s running around in jumpers and coats. Me, I’ve got a T shirt on because that’s tropical by Irish standards!
Onwards and downwards everyone!
Day 6, Copenhagen, NFD
Celebrating my best friend’s birthday today, so obviously not a fast day 😉 fasting tomorrow instead, and then again on Thursday.
This weekend was an experiment – I didn’t do a 500 cal fast, but I did fast for 18 hours on Saturday and had a single evening meal (and then went out for drinks), and fasted until dinner time on Sunday and had a large dinner. I was hoping one of them would just be 500, but hey ho.
Hi please can I be included in November. I am a complete newbie having never tried this before @jessyoursize
@flourbaby, @stephies, @at Thank you very much for the clarifications.
Yesterday DAY 5- NFD went out to see a friend and ended up going to strabucks and wagamana . Hot chocolate , lemon and poppy muffin and a fire cracker chicken later, I feel like I might have blown up my TDEE . Though before that I have had only one toast and omelette in the morning. Not that it is any consolation.
Any ways DAY 6 – I am going for a CD . Just had a porridge and started back on my insanity half hr challenge this week. So I am feeling positive in all.
I feel great being part of this forum. Makes me accountable and share my stories and be part of yours 🙂
DAYs 3,4,5 NFD
DAY 6 Stratford-upon-Avon FD
Best laid plans and all that, I felt I really went off piste this weekend, it all ended with a huge bout of self pity and a cry last night (my poor husband!), I did feel silly this morning BUT I woke up with a renewed determination and think I will try 4:3 this week to try and undo some of the weekends silliness.
So…self pity firmly shaken off and a reminder to myself at how well I have done so far (14lbs in 7 weeks). I guess we all go off piste once in awhile. I will NOT allow myself to slid back into the yo-yo cycle I am so desperate to break, I really need this to become a WOL for me and I am finally confident I can do this.
I am so happy to have found and be taking part in this challenge. The support here is amazing, I read all of the posts – you all inspire and motivate me.
I AM strong and together we are stronger. Happy Monday everyone!
Day 6, Belfast, FD
Day 2, 3, 4, 5, all NFDs
What a busy half-term. We are a host family for a Chinese student boarding at a Belfast grammar school…and wow, can he eat! Chinese hotpot was all the rage, but surprisingly I don’t think I’ve gained too much weight. Lots and lots of chinese style veg, salmon, prawns…all healthy and yummy. But I didn’t manage to get any FDs in, so big reset button being pushed today.
Good luck everyone!
Day 6….Florida…..FD
Maybe it was just me but man, the weekend just flew by….. To top it all off, I fell asleep before my favorite show came on. Thank goodness, I recorded it.
Last night before falling asleep, I reread all the information on 5:2, in hopes of giving myself the need kick in tushy, I need.
I’m leaving for home, in just two short weeks, to take care of some financial business but being home creates some good ole cravings. I always pig out and eat my favorite foods! So, I’m thinking if I can. Get some solid FDs in, stay within my TDEE on the other days, I’ll lose a few lbs, and I won’t feel guilty when they grow back.
As far as emailing bath and body, it’s a thought I’m truly going to entertain, especially since it’s one of my favorite stores and well I’ve got some great coupons, I don’t want to waste.
Okay well, I’m off…. I’ve got a long 6 day work week ahead……
I do not have ducks 🦆
I do not have rows!
I have monkeys 🐒 and they’re running the circus!
Day 6, London, UK, FD
So, I had a slightly uncontrolled NFD yesterday, just over TDEE, not a CD as planned, but at least my wine glass was full……………… of coke zero!!!! Now to transition back to coffee, herbal teas & water only.
@bigviking, Congrats on the pudding swerve……………is there a ‘smug face’ emoji?????? I’m glad to be back in the Dry-Wino fold, it’s like a weight has been lifted, it’s easier when there’s no choice to be made.
@claireandrews & @jellybean805250805250 Welcome!!! It’s better late than never, this months’ challenge is hosted by @jessyoursize and her 1st post of this challenge (page 1) should help you with how to jump right in here, also the following is always a good read for newbies, by @simcoeluv & it might prove helpful and answer a lot of your questions:– https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
Good Luck!!!
@debster251 I’m guessing you were slapping on the sunscreen too!!! During the recent hurricane my friend called home to check on his mum in Kildare, she said she was just off to hang the washing as it was fine clothes drying weather!!!
@yo-yo Fletch, falling off the wagon is more common than you think!!!! We’ve ALL been there (with tears too!!!), the key is to realise you CAN reset and that all or nothing mentality associated with traditional weight loss diets doesn’t apply to this 5:2 WOL. Onward & downwards!!!
We’ve got this people, stay strong!!!!
Day 6, FD, US
Wow, what a chatty bunch you are! I didn’t get time over the weekend to read, so now I have a lot of catching up to do.
Thinking of you @rainbowsmile and hoping you can still find something happy in life, and about your dad, to smile about. I know these are difficult times for you – be kind to yourself, and focus on food later on. Now is now the time to be concerned with what you are eating! 5:2 will be waiting for you when you’re ready to return; and so will we.
I’d never heard of Cloud Bread @annemarilyn so had to google it. Looks really nice! Are you able to share the recipe?
Love your name, Koekie! I’d also like to shift 2kgs this month – we can do it!
Good luck with your mum, HappyMargo. I STILL argue with my OH about ‘breakfast being the most important meal of the day” (pshaw!) so I can well understand the desire to avoid having any food related conversations with her. But as you say, you might win her over! Put her on the forum for half an hour…
I’m with you KerryAnn – I also actually look forward to FDs! They make me feel righteous and good! 🙂
Well done to all you dry Novemberites! And you too FlourBaby for committing! I’m truly in awe.
I also need to firmly hit the reset button. Had a very social, but boozy weekend, and I blew off the last FD. So November has not been good so far. Drink. More. Water.
@penz: I’m going to get Drink. More. Water. tattooed across the backs of my hands. Why is it so hard to do?
Day 6 USA (Illinois) – NFD(but 16:8)
Looking at this week, I am having a hard time seeing a good FD, so I am going to try a 16:8 week. This ought to be interesting. Never done that before, but I know of people with great success – even losing – on that regimen. So for maintenance, that ought to work for me too.
Welcome you newbies. I’m an oldie (69 years and been doing our WOL for nearly 21 months). I hang around to enjoy the camaraderie as well as inspiration of so many wonderful peeps. I’ve been on maintenance for nearly a year.
Hugs and prayers to the people of smalltown Texas. Why are all the crazies out there wrecking havoc and mayhem? I just don’t understand it.
Onward and downward.
Day 6 , Brussels, FD
@tsubaki, great you’re in it the dress!! shows that you’re getting there!! it must be motivating 😀
@clairandrews, welcome to the group !
@amanda-new, I don’t like water either, anything else is good but water just doesn’t work for me pffff
This is my first “dificult” FD, I hardly slept as my daughter’s been having night terrors lately and the outside temperature has seriously dropped this last week so all I feel like doing is muching on chocolate and drinking coffee 😛 Also as I’m at the office I have a massive selection of sweets and chocolates in my drawer which I stock up the bowl at reception with <sob> tempatation is soooo hard!
So far I’m at 265cal at 3pm, I’m going to binge-read success stories to motivate me ! lol
Day 6 – USA – NFD
@anna6, my sincerest apologies!! It seems my hotmail account loves your account so much that it has posted your Day5 post at least 15 times already over the past 12 hours!! I wrote JJ at the Fastdiet tech site and it seems that it’s not your phone or computer’s problem, it’s mine!!!
Day 6 Akron OH FD.
So the weekend wasn’t great 🙁 I went to the car dealership early on Saturday to get my oil and tires changed and I was offered a box of ooey, gooey donuts which I accepted. It was a NFD but still that set the tone for the rest of the day. Sad thing is I was feeling pretty smug and righteous before my fall from grace. Note to self, pride goeth before a fall.
Sunday was supposed to be an 800 calorie day but I blew through that too.
I have decided to join the Dry Winovember challenge; my children have asked me to take a weekend off from drinking; they are concerned that I am turning into an alcoholic and while I know that is not true; I care more about being a good example to them than enjoying my weekly alcoholic beverages. So Dry Winovember it is.
This should also help with staying on track, I make better choices when I am not drinking 🙂
@rainbowsmiles my thoughts and prayers are with you. We love you and support you and you will get through this, I promise.
Have a great day everyone, we can do this!
2nd post
@basyjames – welcome to Dry WiNovember, I need as many hands as possible to hold me on the wagon!
Day 3-6/ 16:8 NFD/Melbourne Australia
Day 7/FD
November is flying. Cannot remember when I last posted. Life has been busy, busy. @pocket winos and @dry Novemberites I’ve seriously fallen off the wagon. Haul me up please.
Spent Sunday clearing out my winter wardrobe and trying on last summers. Happy to report everything still fits though I did donate 5 bags back to the charity shops. I finally tried on the designer skirt I found . Gorgeous skirt but it has such a tiny waist band. I’d been using it as an incentive. It fitted perfectly! It always would have. Can’t believe this 65 year old still has such a poor body image. For the newbies I’ve been in maintainance for over 2 1/2 years. Love this WOL and love perusing fashion blogs and hunting for new clothes in charity shops.
So sad to read of more tragedy. My thoughts are with those affected.
Thanks for the link to the Daily Telegraph. Looking forward to trying some of the recipes. Cannot remember who asked. Sorry. I follow a Mediterranean diet. Lots of colourful vegetables, fruit and small amounts of protein and healthy fats including full cream dairy. Cheese is my downfall. Though nothing is off limits, I don’t eat refined or processed carbs. I’ve never had a sweet tooth and can cheerfully leave any sweets, cakes and biscuits. I’m not a calorie counter but I do watch my portions.
Have a great day everyone
2nd post
After yesterday s eating my weight went up by one kilo this morning. Today I’m supposed to be fasting but will end up eating 900 calories. Tomorrow is another day and I’ll fast again and also on Wednesday.
I had my two granddaughters until 5.00 pm today and nibbled with them.
I have already planned what to eat tomorrow so I’ll make it a better fast day.
Stay strong everyone.
Leiden, Holland. After a weekend that blew the bank calorie-wise (freshly roasted nuts from the market, fresh wholegrain breadrolls with goats cheese. Nice Sancerre. Not unhealthy, but counting up nevertheless.) back to FD today. At about 1 o’clock I was convinced I would not be able to finish the FD and had to give up. I had a very difficult conversation with a co-worker and normally this would lead to me overindulging at lunchtime. But something else came up and I forget all about eating. Before I knew, it was time to go home and cook dinner. Lots of veggies and a bit of smoked salmon!
@anna6: it really helps me to plan ahead and just eat what is on the plan and not think about other food. Hope it will work for you too!
@penz: Thanks for the compliment about my name. It used to be a burden as much as a name😉. But I have kicked the habit of eating a whole package of cookies. It hardly ever happens these days. Let’s go for those 2 kg less on the scales!
@EmmaTaylor: what about a cool glass of Pellegrino water? As you are already in Venice, who needs wine?
Day 6 FD Oregon USA
Well I am pleasantly surprised that I didn’t wake up thinking about food first thing this morning. I have a couple of items with me for lunch/snack (hard-boiled eggs which I only eat the whites on, and the cabbage soup which is no more than 100 calories) Saving the other 300ish calories for evening.
And then it will be morning and a NFD again! 🙂
@awilson hopefully your travels back home will be safe and afford easier FD’s.
@at you are most welcome and really reading your posts is like reading one of my favorite novels (Not that they are long, you just share good content)
I couldn’t help myself and stepped on the scale yesterday. Sigh. Nothing gone.
BUT I really do feel as though I can see it on my body, so I’m not letting that deter me. And I will not step on it again until Friday morning.
I just keep thinking in a year with losing just a half a pound per week I would be 26 pounds lighter than today…OR…I could do nothing and be the same or even heavier, which is really depressing!! When I think about how quick the years go by, it just seems like I can do this.
Thanks for all the newbie encouragement.
MJ
Welcome to the challenge @basyjames!
Wow, thank goodness for google. I’m on a FD today and someone just handed out Reese’s Pieces. Only 21g but fortunately I decided to check out how many caloreis that little morsel of peanut-buttery chocolaty goodness packs before I popped it into my mouth. Waaaay more than the taste is worth, let me tell you!!! In fact, I don’t think I want it at all now, not even on a NFD!!
All together now: Drink. More. Water!!! (Tho I’m sometime just tempted to Drink. More.)
Day 6, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD
Back to work, back to fasting. Didn’t even use the computer for the last four days, enjoyed the time off with the hubby. Eating is going well, exercise is going well. Water/tea going well. Enjoyed some good food over the weekend but didn’t go crazy or anything.
Gotta go read some posts and see what you scoundrels have done while I was away !
Take care, all.
2nd post, Germany, FD
I am very happy with this FD which I completed with around 480 kcal. As I said, before entering this challenge I never made it to finish a day with 500 kcal or less. So thank you everybody to be here and for sharing your experiences, your highs and lows…
I’m happy to hear that some of you are interested in the Miracle Morning as well. I started doing it almost the same time I started 5:2 (February / March). I think both WOLs fit together perfectly.
Tomorrow is a NFD – and I am looking forward to that, too. It’s really nice to be looking forward to FDs as well as NFDs. I enjoy the “Abwechslung” (must look that word up in the dictionary 😉
Wish you all strength and a happy day!
Lou
@jessyoursize Could you please add me to this challenge? Thanks so much!
Day 6, FD, Alaska USA
I’m starving. But that’s okay. My body is burning the extra fat right? I’m guzzling water and I do have herbal teas and miso soup available if necessary. I only have about 40 minutes til lunch though so I think I’ll be fine.
I did weight myself this morning, which i shouldn’t have done. With the weekend being NFDs I’m sure I am retaining water. I will weight myself again tomorrow which was my original plan!
@penz…great job resisting the reese’s pieces!
It is a little harder this week but I will make it through this FD just like I made it through last week’s…by reminding myself of the health benefits of fasting! And that I can eat normally tomorrow.
Day 6 UK FD
Just realized that I haven’t posted yet. It has been a hectic day. Tomorrow looks like being a soggy mess so I had to do tomorrow’s work today and get to Uni. I certainly didn’t have time to eat. I am on the train on the way home thinking about what I will have when I get home. Top craving right now is celery with peanut butter and maybe an apple or two, maybe some water cress and a carrot. My tastes are changing for the better at the moment. I am NOT going to even think about stopping at the co-op for cheese on the way home…
Debster many thanks for your very kind offer:) Let me think about it. I am not sure I want another lifeform to feel responsible for at the moment. Can you tell how tired I am? I think I have made a mistake taking on so may extra rabbits, I know a few bacteria won’t make much difference but thinking straw and camels here…
Day 6 Sarasota, Florida NFD This past Spring I decided to keep some clothes that hadn’t fit me in 3 years. Even the most unforgiving ones fit me now. I’m going to do a closet cleanse anyway- make sure everything I have is something I feel good about (I tend to keep clothes too long, the Scots in me.) 💪Day to everyone!
Day 6 – SW WA USA – FD
Usually go for a liquid FD on Mondays but not today. Just had a pear with some cheese & a couple of SF chocolates. I’m fortified for the rest of the day & expect to have some soup for dinner to round out the FD.
@Yo-yoFletch – wow 14 lbs in 7 weeks, that’s great!
@Mogamon – good for you fitting into all the clothes that hadn’t fit for ages!
Back to work! Remember that together we are stronger!
Day 6 – Cumbria UK – NFD
Busy day – Dentist appt for regular checkup this morning (all clear for another 6 months 😌) and this afternoon my regular Monday group coffee followed by Pilates; then evening Yoga class and a late light supper! so another controlled NFD (no wine today!)
Amazingly since last Monday I have managed to stay in control completing 3xFDs and staying below TDEE on the NFDs (despite enjoying some 🍷🍷!!!!)
Tomorrow will be another busy day – regular Tuesday AM group walk, followed by hair appointment then a busy 2nd half of the afternoon baking – Nigel Slater’s Double Ginger Cake (for my daughter’s boss last day at work) and 2 x Nigella’s Banana Bread (for the group I volunteer at on Wednesday PM) and it is my FD!!!!!!!!!!!! Well at least I will be kept busy…………..😉
@coda @ciren2 @okeydokey – Where are you all??? Hope you are keeping well – Thinking of you al – if you are lurking in the background pop in to let us know how you are doing 🤗
Hope everyone is having a great Monday too and keeping the faith. I’ll try and catch up with the posts tomorrow evening when I might need some strength/support to see me through my FD…..
“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.” ~Jim Rohn
Day 7 – Japan – NFD 80.4kg
Haven’t broken my fast yet, probably in a couple of hours. I’m going to work out first, although I’m not looking forward to it because it will be a bit on the painful side today. My weight is slowly working its way down even though I’m trying to build muscle and eating well on NFDs. I could just push protein and cut calories but I’m not into that, at least yet. I’m not convinced that large amounts of protein is really good for us and I seem to be doing just fine on less than 100g / protein a day. There are some schools of thought that too much protein actually leads to cancer development. Some argue the source of the protein is important, generally these are the anti-dairy crowd. Personally I don’t think the body is that stupid or limited. Another school of though is complete proteins vs incomplete sources makes a difference. Again I don’t the body is that stupid or limited, besides proteins are broken down into amino acids before they are used or converted to glucose.
Oph … I’m going off the deep end again.
Day 7 NFD Brisbane, Australia
FD yesterday went really well, I feel like I am really in the swing of it now. I find not eating all day and then having a simple meal of small protein and lots of veges or salad works the best for me and my DH. That way I am not concerned about how many calories I am having during the day and as long as I don’t add any extras ( cheese, dressings) to my evening meal I know I am under 500.
Had a few indulgences over the weekend but am back to my Friday weight this morning 😊
I have just caught up with everyone’s posts this morning while I ate my Bircher muesli and had my coffee. I am ready to face the day with a strong resolve….thanks everyone.
@kerryann well done, stay strong, you’ve got this!
@penz it’s amazing how some food loses its lustre when you know just how many calories are in them.
@ona healthy high you are an inspiration 👏👏
@rainbowsmile thinking of you and your Dad, enjoy every moment you have with him.
@belfastsink we had a Japanese student a number of years ago and I have never seen one person put away so much food, it was incredible…. I wonder if he had worms?
Have a great day everyone.
Happy Monday, I have read some people taking about 800 calorie days? But I haven’t read any responses from anyone that are trying it. I was thinking about trying it for my fast days this week, just to help me get a FD under my belt. I am really having a hard time today. Maybe it is the time change? I could eat an arm right now, and it is only 3:30 and I only have 85 calories left. Yikes.
Day 7 Gold Coast, Aus CD
Had a great Liquid FD yesterday. I’m weighing myself daily (it helps keep me focussed) and although my weight is bouncing around, each day after a FD it is lower than the last FD, so trending down. This morning it was 300 grams lower than Friday. I’m happy with that.
I’m totally hooked on the LFD, I find it so simple. Eating anything leads me off track. I do get some cravings in the afternoon, but a cup of something hot sees the craving off. Since discovering how much sugar is in low fat milk, I’ve switched to herbal and flavoured teas which I can drink black – yesterday was peach and mango. No calories or anything else, but soothing.
Yesterday I also spent a few hours of hard work in the garden, digging, shovelling and mulching. The results are really worth it, both for the garden and my fitness. I’m finding that I can now get up and down easier than I could when I was 8 kg heavier, and can work for longer without a rest. Its hot, so I sweat a lot and I have to keep remembering to drink lots of water as I’m no longer getting so much liquid from food. I think the good flush out helps too. I’m generally aching less (I have quite a lot of arthritic joints) which may be due to the warm weather, but I think is also helped by the fasting and moving more.
@jessyoursize – do you make your own miso soup for LFDs? I’ve never had it, but it might be a good option for me.
@mjrbcd44 – I really appreciated your comments “in a year with losing just a half a pound per week I would be 26 pounds lighter than today…OR…I could do nothing and be the same or even heavier”. I’ll keep that in front of mind today, as I do find the day after a LFD can be a challenge. And every little bit, every calorie not eaten does add up and make a difference.
Wishing everyone a great Tuesday today – Melbourne Cup day! If you are like me and only gamble once a year on the big race, may your horse run straight!
May you be happy, may you be healthy, may you be free from inner and outer harm, may you care for yourself joyfully.
The beauty of intermittent fasting is finding something that works for you. My personal preference is to eat less than 500 calories twice a week. I prefer to eat once a day in the evening. Splitting the calories throughout the day makes me very hungry. I can certainly relate to wanting to “eat an arm” if I do. I’m less hungry eating once a day. I’ve been doing this for so long I’d find it psychologically very difficult to eat up to 800 calories. That would be over half of my tdee! Experiment with different methods. 800 calorie fast days may be perfect for you.
