New Year, new me (or rather back to old me)

    I’ve been looking through the forum with interest over the last month, loads of good information and positive stories.

    Well, I started the 5:2 on 4th of Jan 2016 after realising that the current me was not the me that I wanted to be. And I wanted the old me back (it’s all me, me, me, I know).

    I’ve never needed to diet before, but at 52 and at a rather hefty weight, and a desk job, I felt that if I don’t do something right away, I’d be putting myself at risk of all sorts of nastiness.

    I wanted to feel better myself, to be able to wear nice clothes again, walk up stairs and tie my shoe laces without sweating etc etc. Most of all I wanted to see my 6 year old daughter grow up (my wife and I started late, career things mostly).

    So, she gamely said she’d help me by doing the 5:2 with me.

    I weighed myself on 12th Jan, and came in at 103 kg. 🙁

    As of last night, I’d lost 11.4 kg and am 41% to my goal, which I set at 76 kg.(note, my wife has already reached her goal – she now weighs less than she weighed 10 years ago, but is carrying on with it).

    Which in itself is extremely pleasing. However, the other benefits are amazing me constantly. My waist has shrunk, my clothes are now far too big, I’m back playing club badminton, my feet don’t hurt, people are commenting on how well I look, and most of all, my daughter isn’t saying “Daddy has a fat stomach” loudly in the playground when I drop her off.

    The other main revelation is how I now look at food, and what I used to eat. I view this “diet” as a major lifestyle revision, and whilst I may have the odd treat, the amount of sugar, salt, fat and “bad carbs” has been reduced to either zero, or to neglible amounts.

    Whilst I’m not saying it’s right for everyone and anyone, it works damn well for me, and I ain’t going back to the way I was before for any reason.
