  • Hello.

I’m new to this. I’ve almost finished the first week, and am waffling on whether to continue.

I’ve lost more than 100 pounds on a different diet and doing exercise — basically, getting healthy — over the course of a year and a half, and am now at a healthy BMI. However, the weight loss has stalled and I still have a bit — about 15 to 18 pounds, I think — to lose. I feel like my optimum weight is somewhere in the middle of the BMI charts, not at the top end. My fat problem seems to be concentrated in the abdominal area and the thighs. **sigh** I feel like I already eat in a way that is healthy.

Anyway, I’ve been thinking that maybe The Fast Diet would help me kick off those final pounds and the fat that is still lurking around my tummy and thighs. I gave it a try this past week while I was reading the book and will weigh in in the morning to see how it went. I’m waffling on whether or not to continue with the Fast Diet, or to continue with what I’d already been doing.

I’m going to explore the forums. Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello.

Hi Daisy…I’ve JUST signed up so haven’t even started this diet yet! I’ve been reading that a 1lb loss is the norm and I’m feeling a bit discouraged already! You see, I have about 60-65 kilos to lose! (143lbs)…at this rate it will take me almost 3 years!! Do you…or any of the readers know how I might increase this? (I have Hashimotoes (Thyroid) but I’m on meds for it and Metformin for pre-diabetes.)
Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts… 🙂

    Hi scorp:

Unfortunately it takes a lot of time to lose a lot of weight. You can lose faster, especially at the start when your TDEE is high, but it takes a more concentrated effort. Here are some tips for beginners at 5:2: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

The #4 post on TDEE explains what you have to do to lose weight fast.

    Good Luck!

    Well hey there, Scorp.

    I think it’s great you’re here.

I’m new too, just signed up about five minutes before I posted. (I started giving the 5:2 diet a tryout a few days before I signed up and before I’d finished the book.) I suspect that since you have a fair amount to lose, you may see more than a one pound weight loss per week if you stick to the 5:2 plan. I see that someone else has posted some additional info for you.

Also wanted to say that I know how daunting it can seem at the beginning when you need to lose a fair amount of weight. Before I started this weight-loss journey a year and a half ago, I remember spending a lot of time fretting over how far I had to go, how long it was going to take me to get there, how best to attack the problem, etc., etc., etc. Ad nauseum. It’s a bit of a trap.

I felt like I was standing there, figuratively facing a huge mountain of a problem that had to be moved, armed with a little plastic spoon instead of a shovel or a bulldozer.

    It’s daunting, for sure.

But you know what the answer was?

Just do it. Take that first step. Pick up that little figurative spoon and start to change your world.

The time is going to go by anyway. At least you will be moving in the right direction, and taking steps to reach your goal.

Also, I wanted to let you know that even relatively small amounts of weight loss can make a huge difference in your health and how you feel.

So hang in there. You can do this!

    Good luck to you!

(p.s. – I plan to weigh in for the first week of the Fast Diet in the morning and will post the results.)

    Hi,
I am new to this too … 10 days actually.
I have been dieting for as long as I can remember and think I have tried most things but, especially now that I’m getting older, get fed up after a few days as the diet has to take over your life and you need to think about it 24/7.
I know I have a lot to lose but I have lost 6lbs and inches already and am even finding the fast days getting easier as I can either “graze” all through the day with fruit, veg, cup a soup or whatever, or, if I’m busy I can eat very little and have a big meal in the evening. I like my food but don’t want an expensive and “high input” diet where I have to cook all the time.
I have found that this suits me …. I didn’t know that a chicken and mushroom pie was less calories than a chicken korma (and I have had both this week, hehe!)even a pound a week would make me happy as I have found that when I hardly moved on the scales the first week, I had already lost on the tape measure.
    Try it and good luck
