  • Hi,

I’ve just embarked on the 5:2 road, thanks to my wonderful husband who came across the information which rolled all the things I’d been gathering from different sources and packed into an easy, comprehensible and doable package. He started 2 weeks ago, so has a head start already.

About me? Canadian born, educated in Britain or British schools in other countries, living in Germany. Translator / interpreter, teacher and budding writer. Mother, wife and home keeper. I like Nordic Walking, power walking, archery and keep thinking yoga would do me a world of good, but get stuck at the occasional sun salutation. I enjoy challenges and growing and developing along the way.

I’m aiming high, confident it will work. But heck, if I only ever get half way to my goal, I’ll have already made wonderful and lasting progress.

Glad to be here and looking forward to making new cyber-friends and support teams here to make the journey easier should the going ever get tough – and also to support others who are having a bad day or week.

Hi Kirsten70 – I just signed up today! I haven’t purchased the book yet, did your read it already? I heard about this diet on NPR (National Public Radio). I live in the US, a mother of 2 little girls, and in my late 30’s. My family and I try to be healthy and for the most part we are, but I tend to get these down moments – like the holidays – where I treat myself to a little more than I should. However, after listening to this diet on NPR – it appears to be a healthy way and makes sense.

How did you start? I also look forward to sharing stories and support.

    Hi Cmer and welcome:

Here are some tips that might help: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

    Hi Cmer,

My husband came across the 5:2 and, after watching the Horizon programme and reading the book he was convinced. That suited me fine because I have done 1 day fasts on and off for the past 4 years or so. I know that fasting is meant to be very good for the health. The 5:2 information showed how good it is for your health even more clearly.

I’m in my second full week and have done 4 fasting days so far. I had 2 which were taxing, but yesterday was a breeze – like many of the single fasting days I’d done before.

I’m in it primarily for the long term health benefits of fasting, but am doing 6 months of 5:2 to kick start the benefits and also because I’d like to drop 5-7 kg (10-15 lbs) and / or 8-10 cm / 3-4 inches on my waist and hips. In July I’m switching to the 1 day a week fast and plan to keep to it for as much of the rest of my life as I can rather than the previous on/off of following it.

I hope you have a lot of fun on this adventure and soon start to see a lot of the health benefits to be gained.

Also – simcoeluv is a wealth of inspiration and humour – when he (I think you are a he simcoeluv?) suggests a topic or a link, it is a good idea to look into it.
