  • Seem to have coped although evenings are difficult so had a small low fat Yoghourt. Early days but…

    Hi all,

I feel like a broken record, but had another sleepless up all night with BOTH daughters’ glucose monitors going crazy and ultimately one failed and I had to change it at 2 am. I am literally a walking zombie. I already had a first pilates session booked with a new woman since my other guy is gone for 6 months. I felt guilty to quit on her being she worked to squeeze me in last minute. So, like a good little trooper, I went after dropping kids at school. I was going to go for a nap today but then realized I have library duty with the twins’ class today! OMG! And on top of all this, my weight is randomly up 1.5 lbs! It is Sherry’s awful, horrible, miserable down-right bad day (I’m trying to go for the movie title of that Alexander’s horrible, etc. day… can’t remember the particular words!)! 🙁 Ok, enough of the whine.

Cinque, cute name and nickname! Hope all is well with the little family! Hope you don’t wear yourself out on grandma duty!

Lori, I’m with you, today has been such an off, weird day that I don’t know what I’m eating/when, etc. Maybe it will turn into a fast or at least semi-fast day for me.

    Ciao!

    Congratulations Katab!
At least when evenings are difficult, there isn’t that long to go.
A lot of us find it easiest to leave nearly all of our intake until then! I have a big bowl of chicken and vegetable miso soup. I can look forward to it all day, and then have it in my belly in the evening.
You’ll work out what suits you best. Tips are to eat high protein and low GI as they keep you fuller for longer.

I hope when you wake up in the morning you feel lovely.

Sherry I have been complaining in my head about how tired I am and how I will juggle the things I need to do today, but Oh dear, your bad day makes me feel my life is simple and easy!
Keep surviving! The scales are the least of your worries, they will be down again. Keep the girls insulin right and cancel everything else for the next three days!

    Best wishes to everyone!
It is day after fast day for me. Breakfast!!!

Morning girls from cold and wet Melbourne ( again )
Hope you are all going well.
Going to have an extra fast day this week. I was out for lunch and dinner yesterday with my husband who has been away for the past two weeks. And we are out for dinner tomorrow night to celebrate as a family our daughter and youngest sons birthdays that occurred whilst dad was away. Although you try to eat as healthily as possible it’s tough when socialising 😏
Managed two gyms days and two walk days this week so I’m happy with that.
Welcome to Katab hope you settle into this way of life easily. I am confident you will see benefits.
    Love
    Tilly xx

Good Morning from chilly & wet Pennsylvania, USA! We can’t complain as we needed rain desperately, but it is to be like this for days and days! It doesn’t look like I’ll be playing golf this weekend. It’s not much fun to be caught out in the rain and have your equipment get soaked as well as yourself. Oh well, we haven’t been rained out for a long time.

Sherry…sure hope you had a better night last night. How scary to have your girl’s alarms go off in the middle of the night. I have to say that you are amazing. Your schedule and all you deal with leaves my head spinning. ((Hugs))

Cinque…hope Mum & baby are doing well. Josie will be Mum’s little helper, I’m sure. I see more special times with Grandma ahead when Mum needs a break!

Weight is staying the same here. For some reason, I just can’t seem to get my head in the game. My wish for 10 lbs off by our Key West trip is not going to happen, but I won’t dwell on it. I certainly won’t let it ruin my trip. I just hope I don’t have more to lose when I get home! Have to be on guard!

Well, 5 more days to work after today. I go back and forth between elation & panic. :-O There’s no turning back now! LOL!

Off I go to boot camp. Have a good day everyone!

    Quick pop on here…

Cinque, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Such fun. Enjoy and I hope you all get some sleep.

Sherry, hang in there. That sounds quite difficult. I would not be able to sleep waiting for the alarms to go off…..I hope your husband lets you sleep and sleep and sleep…..

Lori, I would probably have very mixed feelings in your situation. I know you will enjoy it, though.

Tilly, Congrats on the extra fast day!

I feel pretty good about this week. I hope I can stay in this pattern for a while and begin to make real progress again vs. just getting back to where I was! I think the HIT is helping.

    Have a great weekend!!!

    Good evening girls~

Another long day in these parts! Kid school drop off, home for a walk and then back to school for grandparent day. My mom and her husband are the only grandparents my kids have left. The kids sang songs for the grandparents and recognized those with the most grandkids, the most “wisdom” (aka oldest!), etc. Then, my mom/husband and I took turns going to the 3 younger kids’ classes to do projects with them. After grandparents day was the school book fair and then my son had a flag football game till 4:30. Poof! The day is gone!

The good news is the hubby will be home Sunday and I can’t wait. At least last night (thanks for asking Lori) was a better night alarm-wise, though my one daughter did have another pump failure (because she bumped and dislodged it) before lunch at the grandparents day event so we had to rush and change that out.

I have a niece’s baby shower tomorrow that in the chaos that is my life, I totally forgot about! I was calling her tonight to invite her to my son’s birthday party next weekend and she mentioned, “see you tomorrow”. I was embarrassed that I’d forgotten. I’d planned to put up the October calendar tomorrow (on which it was written!).

My weird weight gain disappeared as of this morning, back to 116.6 thank goodness. Now to keep it off during the eating at the shower (I know what you mean about social eating situations, Tilly! They often do me in!)

Cinque, how goes it with the family? Is your daughter getting any sleep/how often does the baby wake to be fed?

Lori, what are the dates of your Key West trip again? Hope you have a wonderful time. Yes, don’t stress about not being at your ideal weight. Take pride in the fact that you’re so much lighter than you were at the start of this year and enjoy yourself!

Carolina, what are you doing with regard to HIT? I’d like to try it but would have to make it low impact due to my back. Maybe just fast walking intervals? I’m happy things are coming together for you eating wise.

Have a lovely weekend everyone! 🙂

    Good Morning!

A rainy Saturday, so no golf today or tomorrow. Will kind of be nice to just putter around the house. Once I get thru the mountain of laundry in my basket! Where does it all come from??

Sherry…..glad hubby will soon be home! You’ve had a time of it since he’s been gone. When do you get your break in Hawaii? Heaven! We are going to Key West October 13-17. Then October 29, my sister and I head out for our road trip. 3 days in Virginia Beach and then a week in Myrtle Beach. Can’t wait!

Today will be spent watching some golf on TV as well as college football this afternoon/evening. I do have to run 1 errand, but other than that, here I’ll be! Hubby wants a simple dinner of vegetable soup and toasted ham & cheese sandwich. I’ll eat the soup, but will have to have something other than the sandwich since I try to stay fairly low carb in my eating.

Time for cup of coffee #2…..have a great day everyone!

    Hi!

Other than getting up earlier than I wanted for the baby shower brunch, I had a relaxing (finally!) day. Only had fruit at the shower as it was mostly pancakes and waffles (oh the carbs!), so was impressed with myself for that! ;). Got home and took a little nap…ahhh!

Now to pick up the boy who’s on a playdate and make dinner.

Lori, I leave 10/12-27 and I can’t wait. Toying with the idea of taking a watercolor painting class with a local Hawaiian artist. I have always been able to draw but never learned any medium to make art I can actually hang on the wall. I’m too crazy busy at home to even get in the frame of mind to try painting so this might be a good time to try! We will see…

Hope all you other ladies out there are doing well!

    Sherry

Hello….It seems relatively calm on here. Usually when I miss a few days I have tons of posts to absorb, so this is nice in a way.

Sherry, glad you finally had a relaxing day!!! I hope all goes smoothly until Sunday.

Lori, glad you were able to relax as well. I’m amazed at all you do.

I had a little stumble on the weekend. I had a migraine Saturday and my husband offered to pick up pizza and I said okay. Unfortunately it was Detroit style pizza, which has to be the worst and to be honest I only like thin crust anymore. I also did more snacking than I should have. Good news is that Sunday we did some biking for a change! My weight was up Monday but I’m hoping it is largely due to the salt/sugar.

For the HIT ….. we have a long steep hill in our neighborhood and I’m running as much as I can and then walking fast the rest of the way. It doesn’t seem like much but I’m completely spent by the time I get to the top. We’ll see how it goes! It feels about right–gets me to my max but doesn’t cause a drenching sweat or anything.

    Fast day today!!

Yes, where has everyone gone? As it is, I can only pop in quickly. Today is my son’s 11th birthday and as is tradition, each kid gets to choose what they want for their birthday day meals. This morning it was peanut butter and jelly French toast, lunch (which I have to hurry up and pick up) is a quesadilla, tortilla chips and churro from a local Mexican restaurant, and dinner (which I rushed to get in the slow cooker before I left for pilates at 8am) is kalua pork with cabbage. I have to make his cake when I get home later after picking up the girls.

I am honestly so tired that I barely made it through pilates this morning. She had to take it easy on me! I got to bed late last night after getting caught doing a lot of little chores that needed getting done. Also, I think once my husband gets home after being gone so long, I can finally let my guard down and take a breath and then I feel all of the exhaustion that’s been building up for 2 weeks!

I don’t know where my weight is. Haven’t weighed in a few days. While my eating hasn’t been bad, it’s been haphazard at best and I need to get back into the swing of things!

Well, Lori, you must be busy getting ready to retire 😉 and Cinque, you have a pass because I’m sure you’re on grandma duty! Nice to see you pop in Carolina. Hope the little gain goes away quickly. I’m impressed with your HIT. I’d have to do a low impact fast then slow walk!

    Ok, see ya girls!

    Good morning everyone,

Hi Carolina, I know what you mean, it is daunting when there are heaps of posts to go through, and you are interested in how everyone is going, but it is hard to keep it all in your head to respond.
I had a bad day this week too, I stuffed myself on home made pizza I’d made for my granddaughter. It would have been fine if I hadn’t eaten three quarters of it! But luckily it was fast day the next day. Bliss!
Sympathies re your migraine too, I hope it has left without a trace.

Wow, biking and running up hills! You will be so fit!
How is your daughter going with her diet these days!

Sherry, Good luck getting through the last days (is it only a few days before your husband gets home?). Be rigorous looking after yourself (speaking as someone with chronic fatigue, you want to avoid making those stupid tired mistakes that just lead to more work and stress!). It sounds like Mr 11 had a wonderful birthday.

Cheers to everyone else! Is this your last work week Lori?
    Salma where are you?
    MinnMiss, what is happening?
All you others, come and give us a catch up!

    Best wishes!

    Hi Everyone!

Sorry I’ve been missing in action lately. Yes, this is my last week of work. I actually took a half day of vacation today and all day tomorrow. Nothing to do and I just can’t stand sitting there. I’m playing golf tomorrow… Better than being at work! I’ll be in the office Thursday and Friday and thats it.

Scale is going down lately, so I’m happy about that. Exercise is good as well. I need to stay very active as I sure don’t want the scale to go in the wrong direction.

    Thinking of you all. ((Hugs))

Hi All, haven’t written since last week – was discouraged that I didn’t lose any weight last week, but tried to be happy I hadn’t gained. This week is another week. Yesterday was a FD, so I weighed myself in the morning. I plan to fast Thursday and then we’ll see what the scale says…my clothes seem marginally looser but could just be my imagination lol.

Yesterday was a struggle – last fast day was relatively easy – so I thought Monday would be the same and it wasn’t – I was crabby and pissed off lol. Was happy to see the end of the day and I also think I ate too many calories at dinner. Not “junk” it was good food, just probably too much I think.

Was pleased to see my blood pressure at a good rate last night – best it’s been in a while – not sure if it’s related to fasting, it’s only been 2 weeks, but I guess you never know….

Hope you all have a good evening – or day depending where you are….

    Hi Susie,
Good signs! Marginally looser clothes and good BP!
One day at a time is the way to go! But at the same time, remember this is a long term way of life. It’s been 13 years of putting the weight on, so don’t expect it off in 13 days! 😉

I’ve just done that same trick of good food…. but too much. Oh well I am about to go to bed and tomorrow is a new day.

Lori, that is a nice cruisy last week you are having!

    Best wishes to everyone!

    Good Morning!

I’m enjoying my day of practicing being retired! I went to boot camp, came home and took a shower and now have a couple hours before I get ready to go to the golf course. Feels funny as I’m used to coming home from boot camp and rushing around getting ready for work.

Scale went down a few more tenths….YAY! I’ll be having a couple lite beers today, so maybe it’ll go down a bit more! LOL! 😉

I think I’m going to like this retirement thing….ahhhhh……..

    Have a great day gals!

My email keeps reminding me to log in, and I finally took the initiative. Its spring here, a good time to start shedding the extra ballast. An additional incentive was a flight I have booked for a special birthday bash, in a sea plane…and I had to submit my weight…apparently its important so the plane isn’t overloaded and can’t get off the water. Ouch! So this really got me thinking the weight I would actually like to be telling the airline rather than the one I have had to admit to. Incentive comes from the most unexpected places. Keeping calm and carrying on with 5:2.

    Good Morning!

Cinque…hope you are just busy with the Grands and that you are well. Miss seeing your updates here.

Sherry…how are things going with you? Have things calmed down a wee bit?

I had a good day yesterday, but man was I tired last night! Apparently doing boot camp and then walking the golf course is just too much! Taking today off from working out. Whew! As predicted, after having a few lite beers yesterday, the scale slipped down another few tenths. 😉 I suppose it’ll pop back up in the next couple days, but it’s nice seeing that new low number.

Well, back to the office this morning. I’ll see what I missed yesterday. I’m hoping things went smoothly. 16 more hours to work. Unbelievable. First time in 40 years that I haven’t had a job! I’m so blessed to be able to retire early.

Cat is bugging me to go out…..have a great day everyone!

Hi Lori, best wishes for your very last day!

Wow Secretly Slim, how great to see you here again! What has been happening between February and now? Does your worry about your seaplane seat mean that 5:2 went by the way for a few months.
Wow, a seaplane trip sounds wonderful!

Hooray for your email prompting you to write! The lovely thing about 5:2 is that you can just pick it up and get going again.

The Eat Fast and Live Longer Documentary was on TV last night and it was interesting to see it again from the viewpoint of being a 5:2er.

I have to put every minute I have into my planning documents today and over the weekend so, if I don’t manage to pop in here, that is why. Wish me luck!

Hi everyone from very hot and sunny San Diego. Another heat wave is upon us!

Things have calmed down a bit since hubby came back early Monday morning, but somehow still crazy with two kids with stomach flu this week and the multitude of afterschool football practices/games, choir, tennis, etc. Plus today is really the first day my husband is feeling back to normal after being back in a time zone that’s 3 hours earlier than the one he just left.

I had a good chiro appt. yesterday. Doc said my back looks the most “even/straight” he’s seen in a while. Also nice was that I went to the tailor to have a few things taken in a bit and he commented that I’d obviously lost weight since he last saw me.

My weight has been fairly stable, but I do have my son’s birthday party on Saturday with all the relatives & friends and cake and pizza. Of course I’ll do my best to have some healthier versions of it all to fall back on. I might try to sneak in another 4 day cleanse Sunday-Wednesday before I leave for Hawaii and maybe, just maybe see that 115 I’ve been hoping for?

Lori, congrats on all the micro moves downward on the scale! Every bit helps and all those tenths of a pound will add up to a pound lost soon! 😉 I’m so happy you will soon be officially retired. Good for you!

Sue, great that your blood pressure is down. Probably is due to the fasting I would think? Sorry about your “pissed off” fast day! We all get them! Keep plugging away is all you can do!

Cinque, good luck with putting together all your docs. I hope you get it done before the weekend so that you can relax!

Time to pick up the girls from school!

    Good Morning!

It’s official…..I no longer have a job! 😉 Yesterday I had a cake, flowers & balloons when I arrived at work. My husband also sent me roses with a teddy bear attached to the vase. So cute. My boss cut me loose early and I was home by 11:30AM. My retirement party last night was fun….too much fun….if you know what I mean. It started at 5 as it was a happy hour party. We were home by 7:30, but I managed to drink WAY too much in that short time. I slept for about 4 hours and then was awake with a pounding head(big surprise). The cat wanted out at 2:45AM, so I just got up and have been up ever since. It’s going to be a long day. We have another party tonight with husband’s high school class, but I will NOT be drinking. Ugh.

Oh…I got a beautiful pair of diamond earrings as a retirement gift. Love them!

So…the next chapter of my life has begun.

Hope you are all doing well. Have a wonderful weekend!

    hi all,

Congrats Lori on finally making it to retirement! It seemed like yesterday when you said you had a year till it happened! Wow, diamond earrings! You lucky lady!

I have to be quick. Doing prep for my son’s bday party with the family and friends tonight. We’re getting the Disneyland passes and going tomorrow.

My “sloppy” eating is continuing and I have to reign it in! Too much stuff going on! Yesterday one of my nieces surprised everyone and got married at the courthouse and invited everyone to dinner later, then party today and Disney tomorrow. I don’t function well with too many disruptions to my normal eating in a row! Will only be able to do 2 days of cleanse, Mon and Tues. before I leave for Hawaii on Wed. Bummer, but I will have ample opportunity to be “good” and get lots of exercise being on my own and not having to cook for others or be on any crazy schedule! Looking forward to it! 🙂

Happy weekend all. Will try to touch base on Monday!

Congratulations Lori! Hello to all the wonderful things you can do for the rest of your life!

Cheers Sherry for a wonderful birthday celebration.

Hello all the other mid fifties and roundabout ages. Do pop in and let us know how you are going!

It is fast day for me today. I still don’t know what I weigh (but I was 52.4kg on the scales that were just sitting on the corridor floor at the hospital when I was taking my granddaughter to the playroom when new granddaughter was born. Fully clothed with boots). But as you know I am going by mirror and clothes and how I feel, and on Thursday I felt I didn’t need to fast.
Today I will have a good fast, and I will see how I feel next Thursday.

It is nice to feel so close to maintenance. Sending special cheers out to anyone struggling, I hope you can persevere and find a way though. It is just so nice to feel like that the weight issue is pretty well sorted. (touch wood and whistle)
Best wishes and all good things!

    Hi ladies,

This may be my last post for a bit as tomorrow will be a packing day. Today I’m making a big pot of bone broth in order to cleanse for two days and then I have to head over to my son’s football game.

Lori, how’s the first Monday of not having to go to work? I bet wonderful! You’re probably on the golf course as we speak!

Cinque, congrats on feeling you are at goal! If I’m doing my math right, you’re probably around 114 lbs? Maybe less due to having your clothes on while weighing? How funny that you finally weighed yourself after not doing so in such a long time. Curiosity got the best of you! I’m happy you are where you want to be. Now to maintaining!

Where are all our other crew members? Such a small group lately! Well, hi to all you other 50’s ladies. Hope all is well!

    Sherry

Hi Sherry. It is super quiet!
I am flat out with my project, I had a good fast day on Sunday and I am still thinking I’ll wait and see whether I want/need to fast on Thursday.

Good on you for working out my weight! Ha yes the scales were just sitting there. I haven’t any at home so I am never tempted here.

Best wishes for a good pack up, great bone broth and a win for your son!

Cheers to everyone having a fast day! Or not!

    Hello!!

I’m a bit like a fish out of water today! I went to boot camp early, came home and washed some rugs and hung them on the clothes line and cleaned the bathroom. After all that, I looked at the clock and it was only 9AM! LOL! I think I need to pace myself. 😉 I ran a couple errands in the afternoon and packed our suitcases for our vacation, got dinner and my day is done! Tomorrow is manicure and pedicure at 10AM and maybe some quick housework. Whew!

Seems like everyone is having a busy time lately. I will be out of the loop from Wednesday thru the following Tuesday.

I will surely need a few good fast days when I return! Safe travels Sherry!

    Hi all!

Well, I’ve been in Milena’s lay-by for a couple of weeks. Just couldn’t seem to find more than one day a week to fast. But the nice thing is we can always start again, right? I have a new goal, to be eight to ten pounds down by the new year. That’s a pound a week, with a little wiggle room. 🙂 Sherry and Cinque, you two are definite role models of sticking with this and getting to maintenance.

So I fasted on Saturday and am fasting again today. Hope to get one more in later in the week. Cinque, like you, I find it works best for me not to eat at all (not even my usual 1/4 tsp. of honey in my tea) till evening. Then I have the full 500 cals. left for dinner.

Lori, congratulations on the retirement. It seems to me to be a very exciting time for exploring new opportunities and options.

    Best to all,
    MM

    Hi All,

It was thanksgiving in Canada yesterday. We celebrated Sunday. I usually have Monday’s as a fast day but am going to do Tuesday and Thursday. Harder to fast when I’m at home all day than crazy busy at work!!
Hope everyone has a great day!

    Hi all,

Yes, I said I wouldn’t be on here today, but just because it IS packing day and you all know me so well by now with regard to my procrastination with doing that chore, I am taking some time to pop in! 😉

Well, poor son’s game was a wash out. The little guys don’t usually have a chance because the other schools they’re up against have a lot of older boys (5-8th graders) usually whereas our guys are 5-6 graders. A lot of the older boys in their school play on a different league so don’t do the school sports. It’s a bummer!

I started my cleanse yesterday and by late in the day developed a little intestinal issues! Two of my four had the stomach flu last week so I could be getting a touch of that. Not sure if I will continue cleansing today. I feel better as of this morning, but we will see. Don’t want to be sitting on a plane for 5 hours tomorrow having to run to the loo constantly! At least I have an aisle seat! 😉

Lori, I wondered how your first days of your new life would go! I suspect that you may feel like a fish out of water for a while till you get into your new retirement groove, but boy will it be nice once you do! Have a fab trip! Can’t wait to hear all about it! 🙂

Cinque, what do you mean you are “flat out” with your project? Are you done or stuck? Hoping its going good for you! How nice to be at a point where you can say, “maybe I’ll just fast once this week”! I’m getting there slowly but surely!

MM, once a week is better than none, right? At least you’re probably maintaining instead of gaining which is always a step in the right direction! You’ll get into your groove again. Sounds like you have a very do-able goal.

Hi Sue, good to see you pop in! Hope the fasting this week takes care of any excesses from your Thanksgiving celebration!

Ok, time to pack the vitamins/supplements (easily one of the worst parts of packing because there are so many to sort out- ugh!).

I’ll try to keep in touch a bit while in Hawaii, but I may be too busy laying on a beach reading a good book! 😉 Lol!

    Sherry

    Hello!!!

Sherry, hope you have a wonderful flight and trip. I meant to tell you I went to my OBGYN today and she was telling me about the “new” colon screening that seems to be comparable in reliability to the colonoscopy. I forgot the brand name. I’ve read about it but it was interesting to get her perspective. Anyway, I’m glad to get the appt. out of the way although I feel a bit tricked since they have been hounding me about coming in and then she said the pap is good for a couple more years!! I don’t feel a need to just be groped and prodded so I’m kind of ticked about that. It seems that if you went to every healthcare professional as they want you to, you’d be having an appt once a week!! But that’s just me and my bad attitude!!

    Lori, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!! Enjoy.

Cinque, you are so svelte. I’m enormously jealous.

Sue, I love the timing and low key nature of Canadian Thanksgiving. I guess the food is very similar, though! Good luck with FDs this week.

MM, good luck with your goal! Mine are much more modest. I guess I should set my sights higher.

Secretly Slim, hope to see you regularly.

I had a good fast day yesterday. My doc. appt was kind of the incentive. I didn’t make the weight I wanted to, probably because of eating Thai over the weekend, which always results in water weight. BUT now it’s almost one and I haven’t eaten today either so I’m thinking about back to back FDs. I have never done that but I think I’ll give it a try or at least not eat until dinner and try to be reasonable.

At the appointment we also had a discussion about bioidentical hormones. My primary put me on these after the heart palpitations and out of control migraines last year. I know they are controversial and of course my traditional OBGYN doesn’t like them. Wondering if I’m the only one using them? I’m pretty much always in between two schools of thought!

    Take care, Elizabeth

Looked it up and it’s called cologuard.

    Hey Elizabeth,

I’d definitely be super interested in getting the name of that colonoscopy alternative. I know I’ve seen some type of fecal test advertised on TV (can’t remember the name either!). I’m wondering if that is what the doc is talking about? If you can get the name, I’d appreciate it! 🙂

    Thanks!

    Sherry

    Sherry–we were simuposting! It’s cologuard.

    Morning girls,
I’ve been keeping in the loop although I haven’t posted for a while.
Had a few days away at the beach with my husband last week. We had spent two weeks together in the same country in the previous nine weeks so we thought some time away would be nice. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as amenable !! Howling winds and driving rain. Poor Melbourne suffered badly, there are still people without power five days later! My time wasn’t so good either. Had a bad fall and gave myself some lovely bruising and a badly grazed and sore nose as my face hit the driveway.Thought I’d broken it but seems ok I think lol Damn MS and the weak leg 😏
Elizabeth what do you mean by bioidentical hormones ? I am on low dose hormone patches for menopause. I think they contributed to my weight gain. I have weaned myself down to the lowest dose, but need to talk to my GP about trying none now. It’s been four years.
The colonoscopy option sounds interesting, whilst doing some clearing out of the filing cabinet I found out that I am due for another one late next year phew 😅 haha

Going ok with the routine. The weight is a bit up and down but the trend is generally down which is good 😊
Fast day today, second one this week.

    Love Tilly x

    Hi all,
Fast day going ok. I do great at work it’s when I get home and watching tv but I e been good and never snacked. Had a salad with cooked chicken and veggies and small amount of dressing for dinner. Usually I go to bed early to avoid the urge to nibble.

I had a test which avoids having to get the colonoscopy. You send in “samples”, from 3 days in a row. Then if there’s something detected in the samples, you go for the colonoscopy. I’m in Canada and that’s standard now once you hit 50.

Our Canadian thanksgiving is much more low key for sure but we have all of the same foods. I was born in the US, moved here when I was 6, but we still celebrate both because my Mom made a big fuss over both when she was still living. This year we had lasagna, which is not my fave so easy to avoid over eating lol.

My husband of course doesn’t understand this plan, is skeptical and I had hoped to not have him know planning to fast on the days he’s not home until 10pm but he changes his schedule so much that I then had to explain. I think he looks at it as one more “diet” that won’t work. However I have steadily, slowly lost weight over the past few years. Not sure why likely because of walking in the woods a few times a week with the dog when working part time. Now that I work full time I am down to 1-2 times a week but my job is very physical active.

I find this board very helpful and encouraging!! I’m 5 feet tall and 169, lost 4lbs already in a month. I can’t imagine getting down to 116!!!

    Enjoy your evening!
    Sue

Well I forgot that ‘flat out’ is an Australian phrase. I meant ‘flat out busy’ as in absolutely, completely busy. (You can also say ‘I ran flat out to catch the bus’ for example). I think it comes from ‘Flat out, like a lizard drinking’. 😉

    You understood didn’t you Tilly?

And I am still absolutely, completely busy! Just having a nice time here drinking tea before I face the day.

I feel like I am almost at my goal weight. I am finally the small person all the layers of fat was covering up. I still have flaps on my arms and a little bit of all over weight I could lose to be properly svelte, but I think my body needs time to adjust and settle, and that if I keep on with one good fast day a week (my Sunday Fast day) I can play around a bit with my Thursday fast (it is Thursday today). Last week I didn’t fast on Thursday, today I think I will have an ‘under 800 calorie fast day’. I will see how it goes.

Lori I hope you are having a wonderful break! (And reading this when you get home!)

I hope you are having the best rest now Sherry! And not stomach flu!

MinnMiss, welcome back to getting out of the lay-by, into gear and woot! down the highway!

Happy Thanksgiving Sue (A bit late!). Cheers for you having lost weight over the last few years! And now 5:2 is a sensible sustainable way to build an ongoing healthy life, and you husband will surely come to appreciate that.

Carolina, it is always so hard with medications, they all have pro’s and cons and side effects, it is often hard to know you have made the right decision. But if they have got rid of those dreadful migraines and palpitations, that has to be a good start!

So lovely to see you here Tilly, but what an awful fall, and how frightening to land on your face. I am so glad nothing was broken. And Oh dear yes, damn MS and that weak leg. Sending best wishes.

Re fasting… Yay for that downward trend!

Absolute agreement about the weather here! My poor sister up near Benalla where everything is standing water and sodden mud, and even worse for the places where there was flooding. And the wind!
So glad it is calmer and sunnier now!

Must go off ad start doing things! Best wishes to everyone!

    Hello girls,

Sorry for the long silence, but I have been travelling again and it has been gruelling.
I have not read all that I missed, so please forgive me for not following up with everyone.
    I hope everybody is fine.
I gained (yeah.. expected, I know) 2 Kgs over the trip, and will have to work hard to get rid of them. I am starting tomorrow. Wish me luck.

    Salma

Salma, so lovely to see you here!
    I’ve missed you very much.
Is the travelling finished now for a while?
I hope you are home and can settle and enjoy some nice 5:2ing to dispose of that 2kg!

I am also in the middle of a busy time. I have just realised I have two meetings tomorrow I forgot about! And one I need to prepare for, and take food to eat!

Right now I am unwinding after a meeting. I did have fun dressing up for it!

    Hello from Key West FL!

We’ve had so much fun, but it’s time to go home. We have a long day of travel ahead.

I can’t imagine what the scale will say. Oh well… Nothing to do but get back on the wagon.

Posting from my phone, so this is short.
    Will be in touch later.

    Hi gals!
A quick pop in from me too…

I’ve blissfully been doing not a whole heck of a lot. Mostly sleeping in, taking lots of walks, doing Pilates, shopping, experimenting with healthy recipes that I’ve been wanting to make for a while, and going to lunch with friends out here. Tomorrow I’m meeting a friend to pick up lunch and go to Kailua beach ( seriously one of the prettiest beaches ever- just google it!)

Elizabeth , thanks fir the info- I’ve seen commercials on that.

Tillly, it us a up & down roller coaster but at least as you said, it’s going in the right direction which is a positive! Just keep it going!

Sue, out of curiosity, what’s the name if the test you do 3 days in a row? Are you by chance Italian? Because I’m part and while my grandmother was alive, every holiday, including Thanksgiving included pasta of some sort, usually lasagna. And please don’t let your husband discourage you with regard to thus plan. We’ve all been on a million diets but this one is different, more a way of life and I’m betting you’ll be successful! Cinque and I have made it to maintenance on this plan so I know it’s possible! Good luck!

Thanks for the explanation Cinque. It’s hard to know sometimes what sayings belong to a certain place! Good luck with all your meetings!

Welcome back Salma! Here’s hoping there’s no more travel in your immediate future so things can settle down for a while.

Lori, hello from one tropical place to another! 🌴🌞🏄 Hope you’re having a wonderful post retirement trip!

    Aloha all! 🏝

    Hello All!

Back in Pennsylvania! We got back to my sister’s at 1AM, got up at 8 and were back home around Noon. Whirlwind couple of days. We had a wonderful time. A beautiful resort, great seafood and fabulous drinks! Lots of bonding time with my sister as well as our son & wife, husband’s brother and wife and some other friends. We are already talking about next year!

Sherry…sounds like you’re having an awesome time. How could you not? Relax & enjoy!

I have no idea what the scale will say, but I know it won’t be pretty. No worries. I have 10 days until my next adventure. My sister and I are driving to VA Beach and then on to Myrtle Beach. Weeee!!!!!!!

Hugs to all…..hope you are all well.

    Hi ladies,

lori, I have not been following up with all the posts. Have you already started your retirement/golden stage? You sound like you have.. you seem busy and having a lot of fun. I am envious 🙂

Back to track with fasting today. It feels a bit odd to be back to fasting, but in a good way. It is such a great feeling when you have been able to stick it out for the day and you can look forward to tomorrow. I am determined that this is the year that I reach 78 at least.
Sherry.. you sound like you are having fun to.

I missed all of you girls.. I hope I can stay in better touch now. There will be a lot of travelling for me from now till the end o fhte year, but I will try to be better about staying informed about everyone’s news.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Salma

    Hi Salma!!! Good morning everyone!

Yes, Salma, I am officially retired! Can you believe it? I can’t! It really hasn’t sunk in quite yet. It is so odd to have the whole day to run errands or do whatever I want.

I braved the scale this morning. Up only 3 lbs, which is nothing short of a miracle. I’m up early to head to boot camp and then I have TV repairmen coming to move our satellite dish so that we get a better signal. They’ll be here for a couple hours, I guess. Then I have a mountain of vacation laundry to tackle. Hoping I’m busy enough to fast until 12 or 1. I sure need some good cleansing fasts.

I’ll pop back in later and check on you all. Have a wonderful day!

I am sooooo happy for you Lori.. I dream of that time.
I am sure that retirement will have its own challenges, but you have hobbies, golf and family and what better way to live than to live doing the things you love and seeing the people who mean the most to you in life?

Enjoy (for both you and me). I am retiring (in my imagination) vicariously through you 🙂

    Salma

    Hello Everyone,

Oh Salma, just when we get you a little bit less busy and able to post, I have gone and got myself super busy and I am not sure if I will be able to post much at all!
(On the other hand, this might be my sanity outlet! We’ll see).

I hope you had a really lovely Fast Day and will love waking up to that ‘morning after fast day’ feeling.

I am so close to maintenance that I am deciding week by week whether my Thursday Fast Day will be a normal fast day, an 800 calorie fast day or not a fast day at all. And it is Thursday morning, and I am cooking porridge so it isn’t going to be a normal fast day, but I think I will eat more lightly than on a usual day. (Sunday will remain a proper fast day).

I hope you got your satellite fixed Lori!
And that you are doing plenty of nothing Sherry!
Hello all the lurkers and those of you just about to post!

    Hi ladies,

Today I actually spent the day working if you can believe it. I went out with my client care coordinator and visited some of my clients and caregivers to check up on them and gauge how we’re doing. Eye opening, mostly in a good way but there’s also some things that need to be fixed. Overall they were just so appreciative that the owner came out to see them, not to mention they love to have visitors to chat with! Tomorrow is a work day as well- I’ll be out with my sales guy meeting with nursing/physical rehabilitation centers & hospitals, basically the people who give us referrals.

Getting ready to watch our presidential debate. I don’t know why as I’m pretty sure I’m coming down with the mental condition that’s seriously affecting a lot of Americans. It’s literally making a lot of us depressed listening to all the crazy stuff we’re hearing during this campaign.

Salma, glad you’re jumping back into your fasting regime. So how much more travel is in your future this year?

Lori , welcome to the rest of your wonderful life! Three pounds isn’t so bad considering how much fun you had! It will be gone soon enough!

Cinque, I hope your work load eases up soon! I hope it’s not too stressful.

So with regard to my weight, I’ve been firmly stuck at 116.8 this week despite eating really well and walking at least a couple hours per day. I was really hoping to finally get to my goal of 115. Maybe it’s a case of working out too much for the calories I’m eating or the humidity here making me retain or just a plain old rut. I haven’t really fasted this past week, but have had some lower calorie days. Oh well…

Hi to everyone else out there! I hope everyone’s having a great, successful week!

Hi all, hope you’re all well. I have been following the posts but haven’t had a chance to sit down and respond. Husbands out this evening at College so I have a minute. He’s studying a diploma in Theology. Nearly finished thank goodness.
Been going well if slowly with 5:2. Still slowly inching down, but it is down so that’s good.
Spent my day today running my mum around, she had major surgery a few weeks back and so can’t drive. Dad had a scheduled golf game that he didn’t want to miss and mum had a hairdressers appointment so in stepped me 😉 We had a nice chat this morning before she had her appointment so that was good.
Life goes on here, been busy spring cleaning out cupboards and my pantry. I do it regularly but there is still always stuff that needs to go !!
Sounds like you are all busy ladies. My dear friend retired a few months ago Lori and she said she is busier than ever 😉
    Love to all Tilly x

    Good Morning!

I’m so, so sore from my return to boot camp yesterday! OY! Glad I planned to take today off. So far I can’t say I’m busier than ever since retirement, I really haven’t gotten into a groove. I was actually feeling a bit bored yesterday. I have things to do around the house, but just didn’t feel like getting into anything.

Sherry, have a good day at work and then time for more relaxation and sun!

I have a few errands to run this morning and a Dr appt this afternoon. Other than that…no plans. I think I may go thru some clothes and get them ready for donation.

    Have a great day everyone.

Hello….Sorry to be awol! Not sure why…just busy.

Cinque, we say flat out, here! Not sure if it is a Southern thing or what. But I hear it all the time, in the same way you described. Interesting!

Sherry, I’m glad your work was productive!!! Did I tell you we had to fire a second person? Ugh. It is so hard. This one was a little better because it went more according to our guidelines and he made it easier by being two hours late for an intervention session. The HR stuff is by far the most difficult part of having a business.

Salma, I hope the rest of your traveling goes well and you’re able to keep popping in!

Tilly, so glad you had a nice time with your mom.

Lori, what part of Myrtle are you going to be in? We generally go to North Myrtle, almost into North Carolina. Should be a good time to go!

So ….. I had an unexpected semi FD on Sunday when my husband went on an all day bike ride. I was expecting for the scale to be more friendly with that, but so far no luck! I think because I had tacos yesterday. Oh well…..

Today is fast day for me. Hoping to flush all that water away.

    Good luck!!

Hi All! Lori I hear a lot of people say they are busier since they retired!!! However, it’s nice to not have to get up at the same time every day if you don’t feel like it! I do envy that – especially now that Fall is upon us and it’s starting to be very dark in the mornings at 6:30am!

SherryAnn the test (I think) is called Guaiac Fecal Occult Blood Test (gFOBT) – this is from the colerectal cancer website. I am not sure where you are, but in Canada, when you turn 50 they send you this test and to a mammogram. It’s non-invasive and then I guess if anything turns up they send you for the actual colonoscopy.

Lol, I’m not Italian, but just not keen on turkey – once or twice a year or never suits me,lol. I would have preferred roast beef or even chicken, but my sister was doing the main course, and she’s a pasta fiend (she’s at least 225lbs at about 5’2″) and also was looking for easy and everyone likes even the kids. I don’t feel good after eating pasta, some type of intolerance I guess, so I avoid it, never mind it can pack the pounds on.

Tonight is spaghetti in meat sauce, but a small portion for me and no pasta. I often eat the chicken etc and the veggies, very seldom do I eat “carbs”, Husband has to have potatoes and/or rice/bread. I think a leftover from doing Atkins diets is me not always feeling they’re necessary to a meal. Atkins did work for me, but after a while couldn’t stomach the fats and also I did miss things like rice crackers, a piece of toast with my eggs etc. I love this way of eating, because I can still have things like that not mess up a whole week of following an eating plan.

So far not telling too many people unless it’s necessary. I’d like something significant to “brag” about or for someone to comment that I’ve lost weight. I have a check up next week, Tuesday, day after my FD, so that’s the next time I’ll step on a scale. Am too concerned if I havne’t lost or have gained that I’ll get discouraged. This week I’ve had 2 meals out, one fish & chips and last night burger and fries (no bun!), so not sure about weight loss despite my 2 FDs

Got a nice compliment today from a student employee (I work at a University library) telling me she was shocked I was 50, had assumed I was in my 30s (ok, that’s probably pushing it, lol) and that my co-workers (all younger than I am) were “ages” older than I am. I chose to accept it as a compliment! I also recently had “broadband light therapy” done on my face. It’s a cosmetic procedure – erases sun damage and redness, acne scars, broken capillaries etc. So, I am wondering if that prompted her comment? Or, she could be 20 and everyone is in various stages of “old” to her lol…

    Enjoy your evening!
