  • USA Day 13 NFD

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL! Even though I celebrated the day yesterday with my family, I am still very much in the mode and wish all you mothers a wonderful day!

Strawberriesandcream: Ohhhh! I wish you a speedy recovery from that broken rib!

    Ann6: Happy Birthday!

    MissyBear: Feel better!

Daffodil2010: Enjoy that RV and all those upcoming journeys. I know you both will have enormous fun!

Today is a controlled non fast day for me, since I did all my eating yesterday! I have to stick to the traditional 5:2 diet for while and not try anymore water fast right now. I need the structure after a water fast in order to control my eating. Tomorrow would usually be a FD but I have a graduation with a party afterwards to attend, so I will just have to move that to Tuesday, very doable thanks to the 5:2 WOL!

    Have a great day everyone!

    Day 13 UK NFD

2nd post as first doesn’t appear to have worked.

Just checking in. Feeling very miserable and fed up.

At least it’s a new week tomorrow.

    Day 13, Gozo, Malta, nfd

Coda we mothers all try the best for our families. I remember when I was about 15 kilos overweight and I said and prayed that if I lose weight and get my health back I’ll run after my grandchildren and will be more able to do for my family. And vuala I succeed but with cruises and indulgence I gained some kilos back but retained my balance and healthier weight thanks to this wol.

ShinyThing thanks for your compliment. Metatauta thanks for your birthday wishes because it is today together with mother’s day.. we celebrated by going out for lunch but unfortunately my youngest daughter couldn’t make it as she was nauseated and was afraid to be sick in the restaurant.

We went to an Italian restaurant and we all had a three course meal. I had a fish risotto with black ink which was delicious then pork cheek with new potatoes and vegetables and then a chocolate volcano with peppermint ice cream.

Tomorrow will be the first of B2B2B fast days.

Have a great evening/day all you wonderful hardworking mothers. Onwards and downwards.

Day 13 – SW WA USA – NFD

Happy Mother’s Day to those celebrating! For you @anna6 – Happy Birthday along with Mother’s Day!

@strawberriesandcream – ouch with the broken rib! May you heal quickly. I like your flipping the switch idea! & right “You only fail when you stop trying!”

Soon off on a drive & exploration – open ended, we’ll see where it leads. Need to take advantage of this beautiful sunny day.

Wow, thank you michelinme for your intro post on 25 APR !!
I’m on it now with you all ! On the spread sheet, how cool !
    First FD starts tomorrow !

OK Format: SUN May13 or 13May: ) from Columbia Gorge, Oregon USA.
I’d say CD if that means aiming to stay on my usual organic vegie fish/sf intake w abt 12-1700cals, along w a mile swim each day or something equiv.

You asked for intro – Briefly – i’m a happy healthy 65 yo with a bucket list that includes dropping down to BMI 20 which is 120# for me. Couple other things as well, ha ha. Still working in a “gig-like” way, which gives me plenty time off when I want it. Weeks I’m not working, I am fully retired. My husb and I play music together and I’m doing some new things with this. We just moved, bought a new house and re-modeled the main room to include both its now re-modeled kitchen and a musical stage and area. Also spend a lot of time outside, hiking, biking and so on. I swim a mile a day almost every day of the week. In some systems, that allow more cals in : )

Best of all to all of you, looking forward to this !
    Ah-tee : )

    Day 13 2nd post

@ah-tee welcome, you will see that you will have lots of company here on Monday for your fast day, me included. Good luck, hope you enjoy your 5:2 journey.

@anna6 Happy belated Birthday, hope you enjoyed a fabulous day with your family 🎉🎂🌹
Good night all 😴, sleep well.

    Day 13 UK CD

Just home from an unexpectedly extra-long day out – Phew! I’m not really up for 13 hour days any more, I get too tired and it takes half the week to recover. On the bright side, being home late means I’ve missed supper time and only had my salad/eggs & fruit picnic lunch so around 700 calories for the day. But I’m pretty hungry and scheduled FD tomorrow, so a quick rice pudding to fill me up (cooked rice, plant milk, banana, cacao, cinnamon, vanilla and a little honey) – yum.

This morning the scales were back down to 154, same as Friday, so i think yesterday’s 3lb gain was just a scale blip – food in transit, water weight etc. Still on track to meet my May goal of 1lb /week.

@flourbaby thank you for the introduction to blackbean cakes – all new to me, and looking forward to trying one of the recipes!
@bert1802 well done on taming Matilda! and i love your chicken line 😀
@cornish-jane envying you the early rhubarb. Congratulations on your BP – that’s wonderful
@daffodil2010 your van sounds like an awesome project, wishing you wonderful adventures in the building and the travelling 🙂
@anna6 Happy birthday! I love your idea of losing weight to be able to serve and enjoy your family, well done
@strawberriesandcream your poor rib! hope it feels better v soon
@missybear how miserable, get well soon
@ah-tee welcome to the May challenge! Good to have you with us. Dive right in and make yourself at home, ask away if you have any questions. And Good luck with your first fast day tomorrow

Tomorrow marks our halfway point for this May challenge – already! How’s your month shaping up so far. Are you ready to hit the reset button or ticking along just nicely? Time for tweaks, renewed commitment or business as usual?

Microwave has long pinged – chocolate and banana rice pudding awaits – and my bed!

    Day 14 – Japan – FD

I slept in and my weight is 82.0kg. Normally I’m sweating hard by now and would weigh myself after I shower. I’m actually feeling a bit bloated but I don’t look it. My supper was very high fiber but I think the spinach was getting on the old side. I bought a bag of whole spinach plants and was cutting it up into salads over the week. I went that way because a large bag of regular spinach was cheaper that the washed and package serving of baby dark greens. A bit strong in favor so I cut by mixing in lettuce or cabbage and then it was fine. Last night I topped off my supper salad with a can of black beans and I added cheese on top for some favor I like. Anyway, black beans are hard to eat as the black spreads everywhere. Not my favorite bean but it is supposed to be one of the most healthy. On the side I had a toasted ham and cheese wrap, mainly because I like the favor and crunch. Probably more calories in the wrap than the salad, ditching it would actually leave me with a healthier meal. The salad was very large, probably enough for four people if it was served as large side salads. All that fiber tends to soak up a lot of water and actually it feels a little heavy. If I eat enough salad it can be extremely filling. However a salad is better with a larger variety of vegetables. I was just lazy yesterday. I don’t recommend black beans on a salad. It isn’t that tasty and the blackness makes everything look odd. We had a really nice lunch yesterday as a family but in the evening commitments forced us to be doing different things.

@michelinme – I had only eaten rice as a desert when growing up. Normally we melted butter and added sugar and cinnamon. My wife was horrified when she first saw that. She grew up on rice. For me a stable was potatoes. It was a meat and potatoes upbringing with some vegetable on the side.

Day 14, Brighton UK, Feast day

Day 11 was my birthday, I join all the Taureans with tums. And was glad I did 3b2b FDS before my birthday weekend. Now I will do 5b2b afterwards, to get back to status quo!

    So 5b2b2b2b FDS.

    Let’s go for it!

    @rainbowsmile 5b2b day 1

    Mari

    Happy Birthday Rainbow!! yay.

I am going to try and join this thread. I feel a little lost to be honest, I am zero carb, eating ADF with some longer fasts.. and really just doing this to keep healthy.

I wish I could find a zero carb forum but I am not on Facebook! Fasting is awesome and works with my plan. happy fasting and happy mothers day everyone.

    Day 13 – USA – NFD

    Second post: @rainbowsmile, happy birthday!

michelemm1: We are on all types of dietary eating plans while doing 5:2, including Keto, low or no carb, mediterranean, so you should find people of equal mindset. Join us!

Yes that is what seems so cool about this – do the fasts which have their very own value, no matter baseline diet. Then eat your best the other days – Sweet !

    Day 14…NSW Australia…FD
    12md Monday

    Hi everyone, just checking in.

Happy with 1.5kg loss this last week. Still not back to pre holiday weight, but feeling good.

Warm welcome to all the new 5:2’s. Lots of information to be gained here, and all the other 5:2 threads! 😃

Enjoy whatever you are getting up to and bye for now!

ccco- That feels so good! Thank you. I am going to just do my thing and hopefully you will just support as I go. I am glad that I was able to pop in!

Ah-tee- Thank you as well:) looks like you recently moved? I feel like I read that somewhere?

Arelkade- Thank you for the welcome.

I am doing this to feel the benefits of high energy, autophagy, simple living, and I do love the mental clarity I get with fasting. As I stated earlier, I am zero carb, but I think with ADF, I need to start eating more red meat or nutrient dense foods on my refeed days. I was just eating bacon, pork rinds.. because that is what I was craving.

Integrated a little beef in there that is grass fed, so that might help.

On a side note, my cousin said my face looks thinner since I started ADF! yay. It also could be that I totally eliminated butter. I am dairy free, but I thought I could eat the butter… however, nope. Makes me inflammatory.

Enough rambling. Have a great night. happy Mother’s Day and happy bday again:)

    Day 14 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Let’s do this. Feeling a little tired this morning as I face into a busy day. It’s the first FD of the week but right now I am not sure whether I can manage an LFD or keep it OMAD.

Not too chatty this morning, grumpy TOM.

Have a great day everyone ☺️

    Day 14, Finland, FD

It is summer weather here, forecast 27 deg which is very hot for Finland. It means that suddenly I am thrust into my summer wardrobe, but unfortunately my summer body is nowhere near ready for this. In fact my deep winter body has re-emerged! Let’s just say Mothers day (actually the whole weekend…Eurovision party followed by Mums Day) went a bit overboard, but its hard to say no to your kids…I was presented with Nutella filled croissant and mud cake for breakfast! And while its great that they know me so well…I must inform them of some changes I am making 😉 . We made hay while the sunshined yesterday…oiled our terrace ready for ‘summer’, and got a walk in the forest in before it got too hot. It’s always weird as an Australian complaining about Finnish summers being too hot…but I have been away for so long now….on 1.6 it is exactly 20 years since I left Melbourne on my European sojourn, not knowing I would stay for a lifetime.

@coda agree with everyone, NZ is amazing. I have no doubt you will have a great time there and so will your son!
@flourbaby I totally understand rewarding a great eating day with a doughnut…I also would do that! -It is very easy to reward with food, its accessible and fast, and we know for a moment we will enjoy it. They key word is moment….And turtle dirt forward is one up on me at the moment, I can’t find first gear and seem to be firmly stuck in reverse!
@daffodil2010 love the idea of cruising around in a camper van…that is my secret retirement dream…but my OH is a hotel kind of guy and would detest it! Have fun ith the conversion!
@Strawberriesandcream hope your broken rib isn’t too painful. Get well soon!
Belated birthday greetings to @anna6 and @rainbowsmile

Hoping for a couple of kilos off in the last half on May to balance the first half extravagance. Heading out for a walk now before gets to warm.

Adding myself to the pocket list for today…I added those who said were fasting already but didn’t put their names on the list, hope thats ok 😉

    Today WILL be controlled!!

@strawberriesandcream, I hope I didn’t jinx your time away, I just couldn’t imagine myself away with fellow foodies & winos(?) without indulging …………………… Frankly, I manage to indulge perfectly well at home on my own!!!!! I’m glad you had a fab time, and you know you have the tools to eradicate any excess baggage, whilst you’ve made happy memories, rather than deprived, envious, miserable ones!!! With that broken rib (ouch!!) you’ll make the best of the 12 days left and not stress too much, a couple of successful FDs under your belt and below TDEE NFDs is a great pre-holiday goal!!!!

Happy Belated Birthday @anna6 ……………………. The menu, as always, sounds fantastic!!!!!
Happy Belated Birthday @rainbowsmile ……………… I’ll join you for 3 of your B2B2B2B2B’s from Day 15-17!!!

@missybear – a dicky tummy means enforced fasting ……………….. I’m looking for the silver lining here!!! Stay hydrated & get well soon.

@daffodil2010, I’m with you on the grumpy TOM, although it’s ALL pointed inwards!!!!

@kerryn73 – I’m looking at the 2nd half of May as a reset to balance the 1st half of the month too!!!!!

The sun is out and I’ve planned my weeks’ meals so NO excuses!!!! Onward & downwards people!!!

Day 14, Newcastle UK, ?D (will report tomorrow)

    Belated birthday greetings @anna6 & @rainbowsmile!

    Thanks for the words of encouragement/sympathy/welcome back @shinything, @missybear, @bert1802, @metatauta, @debster251, @ccco, @annemarilyn, @michelinme, @kerryn73 & @flourbaby.

The chocs got finished last night but sans vino. That’s a decent start.

Lovely sunny day and started well watching Daddy blackbird feeding his 3 fat babies.

    Day 14……Florida…..FD

Please put me on that Pocket list today…..I’m soo need an FD! Had a lovely day, we spent it at home just enjoying the reason why we live here….

    @anna and Rainbow…….Happy Birthday!

A warm welcome to our new comers!

@michelemm1……… I know you were looking for a more focused no carb forum but I really do believe you’ll get the same type of help here. We all are doing some type of IF, mainly 5:2 but also 4:3 which is what I do as well as ADF which others do. Since IF, is a WOL you tailor to your own needs, you’ll find we all found what works for us! Even though your approach maybe different, than others, we are here just to support each other!
I honestly believe we are more of a support system for each other on all aspects of life with an underlining goal of weight loss! Does that make sense?? Lol
I’ve been on this forum for nearly two years! I started following @coda in Nov. 2016 and she started this group in May of 2016.

@daffodil…… I have travel the US in An RV/camper van on my bucket list…… and as soon as I can get my children to leave the nest…… I’m running off and joining the RV community. Here in the states there are little communities of people who travel the US together….. I bet if you do and internet search maybe you can hook up with one of those groups too. I hear they are very beneficial, not only do you have like minds but you get group discounts and they are there if anything happens and you need help!

Rain, rain and more rain this morning but one must leave the house and adult today! So I’m off

I dream of living in a world where a chicken can cross the road and his motives are not questioned!

    Day 14 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 FD

Tummy feeling all better today 🙂 Having a hectic morning, busy unwrapping and assembling new furniture that has just been delivered so no time for hunger 👍

For some mysterious reason my phone won’t copy and paste the pocket list today but I’m with all the Monday fasters in spirit.

    Day 14 – Dubai – NFD

Second post: just getting caught up on all the posts and I want to thank @coda for the post about what to do after a binge. Very helpful!!

    Day 14, UK, FD

Its a much needed FD today, and I’m off to work so I will be busy to think about food 🙂

@arelkade well done on 1.5kg loss! 💃 Keep going, you are doing well.

@sarahbob hope you and all of us have a better week this week 😀

@Strawberriesandcream what a lovely way to start a day, watching Daddy blackbird feeding his 3 fat babies 😍 . I have few birds regulars on my feeder now too, I find them so therapeutic and highly entertaining 😂

Have a lovely day everyone and stay the course 🤗

    Day 14 UK FD

Woke up exhausted with headache, sore throat and awful tinnitus. Dozed a while and eventually it out of bed & dressed. Burning pain down one side which is usually the sign of a virus doing something before my body kicks in to see it off. Not necessarily a good day for a FD but I’ll play it by ear.

Going to see how I get on with a gentle adapted yoga stretch plenty of hot drinks, perhaps sit in sunshine and drink coffee while I work out how to fit my life into this week. Life gets so complicated by the things that go wrong – there was no space for an illness and a broken washing machine, but here they are anyway!

Had a good look in the mirror this morning and the fat cells are definitely on the move. It’s not pretty but it’s definitely progress and I’ll take that!

Wow my DD came over yesterday and we had a wonderful Mother’s Day dinner. Stepped on the scale today and still no loss but no gain.

I tried on my MOB dress and I was sad yet happy it is way to big. It was snug in January when it arrived. Now I need to buy a new one. The wedding is in two weeks, yikes, glad she asked to see it on me yesterday.

    Day 14 – UK – FD
    Day 13 NFD 😈

Well the weekend ended up being a bit of a disaster so definitely need today’s FD…………Snacking has been my downfall since returning from my month away……WHY? I did nothing like that whilst I was travelling, I followed healthy 16:8 days, no bingeing even though a fair bit of wine was consumed so not sure what is going through my mind at the moment…….will just take a day at a time and see if I can come get back to my normal healthy habits…..

It’s another beautiful sunny day here so have been out in the garden this morning now enjoying a glass of water with lime in it whilst I catch up on the forum before going out to meet friends for a coffee and a chat followed by a pilates class and I also have a yoga class this evening to look forward to – should keep me focused on today’s FD!

@coda – what fun you’ll have planning that trip to NZ and the big bonus of spending time with your son
@sarahbob – Stay positive – You can do this
@ah-tee – Welcome – loved your introduction – sounds like you have been very busy with the house move and renovations – enjoy it
@flourbaby – that cake recipe sounds very yummy – I will try it the next time I need to do a GF one – does it come out more as a fudgy cake or is it fairly light in texture????
@bert1802 – I think I have unleashed a Matilda equivalent since returning from holidays – I’m managing to do FDs but also having lots of Feast Days……so looking at you for inspiration to help me rein my little 😈 in
@Strawberriesandcream – lovely to have you back and to hear that you had a lovely week – shame about that broken rib for both of you!!!! It’s got to definitely be Option B – I’ll hold your had for the next 2 weeks as I need to get out of these bad habits of Feast Days that have crept in……I’m thinking of going alcohol free at home until my birthday in June but will have a glass if out with friends……do you want to join me for this until your cruise????
@anna6 and @rainbowsmile – Happy belated birthday hope you had a fab time 💐

To those who had a blow out over the weekend – it happens to us all………..the trick is to firmly press a reset button with a good FD and move on – remember that a bad day or two does not a bad week make!

“Don’t think about what can happen in a month. Don’t think about what can happen in a year. Just focus on the 24hrs in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.”

    Day 14, Gozo, Malta, fd

To all those who sent me birthday wishes, thank you.

Bert1802 how exciting to travel the US with an RV/camper!
My husband and I are planning to visit and stay more often in our neighboring island Sicily and visiting other countries too once my husband is semi retired or retired. He plans to be semi retired or semi retired in September 2019. We bought our own little house in southeast of Sicily in Giarratana near Ragusa. We are going for five days after our son finishes his exam on 6 June with our son, and my sister in law and niece from New York and then for another’s week on 29 June with
my second daughter, her husband and two young daughters and our son.

Today I’m still sick and my youngest daughter (who is a specialist in internal medicine) started me on antibiotics
    yesterday.

I’m taking and bringing my son from his exam today but otherwise staying home. I’m not attending mass and my Eucharistic meeting today.

Have a great Monday everyone. Together we’re stronger.

We plan to stay longer and visit more often Sicily where we bought a nice little house in the village core of Giarratana half an hour from Ragusa in the southeast of Sicily. We plan to travel to other countries too. On 6 June we’re going to Sicily for five days with our son and my sister in law and niece who are coming from New York for my nephew s wedding. Lots of interesting news. I’m envious of your plans for your new Merc RV, Daffodil2010! Sounds great and do keep us posted as you trick her out. Hope your rib recovers quickly StrawberriesandCream and doesn’t hamper the enjoyment of your cruise. And yay for your new monthly ending Bert1802, love it!

You’re right Michelinme, half way through the month. I am feeling fat and sluggish today so today is a good marker for recommitment to this WOL! Hope you’re feeling better soon.

    Day 14, Amsterdam – FD

I have been so away from the world this last week! My mum has been really ill and is finally in hospital (they made her wait 5 hours for an ambulance on Saturday – the perils of falling sick on a weekend), and she’s only just been put in a ward bed! It took 36 hours of her being in A&E. Unbelievable. Anyway her vitals are a bit better now so they are testing her (she most likely reacted badly to her newest medicine for her terrible rheumatoid arthritis – they are trying her on everything, which is painful to watch). Her blood pressure was 70/45 earlier this morning though.

Anyway as you can imagine I’ve not been so good with keeping up on the forum- but am back today! Today I am fasting, being at work is doing good for me – my dad has flown immediately to be with my mum and if everything works out then I won’t need to go, but I will likely also fly there tomorrow morning.

Onwards and downwards everyone, hope everyone is doing well…

Day 14, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Stopping by to say hi! Hope all who celebrate the holiday had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Mine was perfect, spent with family and surrounded by love.

Back at work, back to clean eating (when I break my fast) green tea and lots of exercise.

Wishing all of you a blessed day.

    Day 14 – USA – NFD

Had the best Mother’s Day I’ve had in many years! @catch87, hope your mother recovers and the doctors regulate her meds. @Diane123, what a good problem to have a dress that sags a few months after it was snug! I’m sure you will pick out another one that looks great since you still have 2 weeks. @lindasue, great to see you! @Dyask, would pay to see the look on your wife’s face as she watches you eat your rice pudding, lol! @kerryn, last time I heard of Eurovision, Abba won…does that date me too much? @bert1802, RVing across the country is also on my bucket list. @missybear, feel better! @anna6, how exciting to anticipate a family adventure to Sicily again, possibly permanent?

Metatauta since all my family lives in the Maltese islands, Sicily will not be a permanent place for us to live there but a good holiday base.

Catch87 I hope your mother recovers soon.

    2nd post

It really has been a glorious day and whilst I have no way had a FD, it has been a day of healthy eating not too far above BMR. Another positive step in the direction of sorting myself out.

@at – yes please – I’m with you on AF until a week on Friday. I already made arrangements today for OH and I to take a couple of friends out to lunch – instead of having them at our home on Friday night for dinner with the inevitable wine, cheese etc. etc. The restaurant is some way away and I shall be driving. Danger averted and we’re all happy. The other two social occasions I already have arranged can also easily happen without wine, so I’m feeling mighty relieved. Without booze, healthy eating and not overeating are easily achievable. Let’s knock these bad habits on the head!

Sorry to hear about your poorly Mum @catch87 – prayers for you all.
Delighted to hear you both had the wonderful Mother’s Day @Metatuata & @lindasue. I trust all the other Mums celebrating are also feeling the love 🙂
Hope you start feeling better soon @anna6. Rotten time of year to be getting ill. You too @michelinme.

Don’t think I mentioned that I joined up to a local Gilbert & Sullivan society which meets on a Monday evening – so I’m off to rehearsal shortly. BBFN.

    Day 14, FD, UK.

Been quite busy last week and did not have time to post. I am now catching up with all the posts!
Got myself an activity tracker to motivate myself to at least walk twice a day. Exercising is an issue for me. I would like to be more active and like to be. Life just seems to be in the way at the moment!!
I will see how this works out!!

    Day 14 – North Carolina – FD

It was a fantastic Mother’s Day and Graduation weekend! My son surprised by by graduating Cum Laude which made this mama very proud I must say and it was wonderful being with Friends and family all weekend! Food wise, I did good on Friday and Saturday, and went off the rail on Sunday. Between the graduation luncheon (Blue cheese and cream puffs were involved… a lot of them) and the graduation dinner 5 hours later (good food but too much of it I’m sure), it was impossible to stay within my TDEE. We only made it home an hour ago so I have not weighted myself but I’m glad for a FD today.

What’s odd is that liquid FD had become relatively easy over the past few weeks, but today’s fast is really hard. I’m mentally sluggish and physically tired. I wonder if it’s eating bread and sweets that make this FD so trying. Regardless, it’s got to be done, so onward we go! Besides, I loved being able to fit so well in my clothes this weekend and I can’t give this feeling up.

Thank you for the explanation for the b2b2b fasts. I only do liquid fasts so I can’t imagine not eating at all from Sunday night to Thursday morning. That’s impressive!!!!

@diana123 I’m sorry you have to get a new MOB dress but it’s nice that it was too big! I hope you find a fantastic new dress!

@mychoice7, Good for you about the tracker! It does help motivate me. I never realized how inactive I really am if I don’t force myself to go on a walk each day.

Adding myself to the pocket list. Have a great rest of your day today!

Day 14 – SW WA USA – LFD

Definitely ready for a LFD after some Mother’s Day indulgences – all good choices, just a few too many.

@catch87 – what a scary time with your mother. Hopefully things will settle down for her & you’ll get some answers.

@Strawberriesandcream – you’re going to a Gilbert & Sullivan society… How wonderful! I always wanted to be part of one of their productions in high school but it wasn’t available to me at the time. I wonder if we have a society like that in the USA. If would be fun!

@michelemm1 – zero carb? I hadn’t heard of anyone doing that before. Even Keto has some carbs. I wouldn’t think that would be sustainable long term as you wouldn’t be getting any veggies. Maybe you can fill me in a little so I can understand what you do. I’m curious.

Thank you strawberriesandcream. This is my second day of taking antibiotics so tomorrow I should be better. Last night I had to wake up during the night because of coughing fits. I hope I’ll sleep 💤 better tonight.

    Have a great evening.

Day 14 The Dalles in the Columbia Gorge, OR USA. — MON FD — my first one !

Wow what a great group this is !

Someone pls tell me something about the Pocket List. I might just join : )

I might be able to give full report on First Fast Day tomorrow. So Far So Good for me.

Here are a couple things I’ve learned HERE and also something I’ve immediately applied, just in case might be helpful … And also, if you have commentary, I’m all ears !

    1. Dinnertimes: Day prior to FD – Sunday night, dinner at 6pm abt an hour earlier than usual. Start Fast after dinner, let’s call that 7pm. Fast Day — Break FAST (not breakfast, silly) at 7pm and HAVE DINNER ! Almost seems like cheating, but there it is and I learned this here (!). So, I now have 500 cals to burn and those are before dinner. Whaddyathink. ?

    2. LowCal Density foods sound like they’ll be real good today. Fresh raw vegies and fruits should keep me chewing ha ha. Also gum and maybe some non-fat or even low-fat greek yogurt or kefir, organic of course and mixed with frozen mixed berries.

I’ll count cals today and report back to you all tomorrow. No worries, won’t do that every FD but I am excited about this.

Thank you all for being there !

Oh, yah some replies, more later : )

@annemarilyn ! You are in SW WA – hey then, you know very well where I am in the Columbia Gorge ! I love this being so international but it’s also fun to see someone close to home : )
@catch87 – so sorry to hear you and your mum are going through all this. Wishing you the best and prayers.
@annemarilyn again – Is PocketList the list of those of on FD today ? In that case I’ll add myself below ! What happens next ?
@flourbaby – pls tell me what do you mean by B2B ? Is this Back To Back Fast Days? Would be interesting to time dinners in this way, would have to advance by an hour a day or something, maybe have a <24 hour fast but seems wd likely still count a bit at least.

Gotta run, more tomorrow : )

    Hi Ah:

What you have described in your #1 is an every day reduced calorie diet. It is not 5:2. It can cause you to lose weight if you insure that you eat below your TDEE on all of your seven days of the week. But if you eat over your TDEE on Sunday, and over your TDEE oh Monday (including the 500 cal. you mentioned), then you won’t be losing any weight.

    5:2 is a 36 hour ‘fast’, not 24.

    Good Luck!

    Day 14 Second post

@ah-tee the 500 calories are not during the day and then you have dinner, but the 500 calories are ALL you would eat that day, and many people have them at dinner time.

To take the example you’ve given: Sunday evening have your dinner as usual, then fast. Monday you eat a TOTAL of 500 calories sometime between waking up and going to bed – that’s a Fast Day. Tuesday you eat what you like, up to your TDEE calories – that’s a Non Fast Day. Each week has 2 FDs and 5 NFDs – that’s 5:2. There’s information about all of this and a lot more in the Resources section via the link at the top left, and a TDEE calculator via Your Tracker top right.

In the monthly challenges we set ourselves a goal for the month, eg to get into a good pattern of fast days, to lose a particular amount of weight, or to add in some exercise. We mostly check in once a day to keep ourselves accountable, ask questions or share ideas and keep up with each others’ news & progress.

A Pocket list is a list of all the people who are sharing a challenge – usually fasting on a particular day. It helps to make the commitment and we’re stronger together. Some people print them off and carry them round, hence Pocket List.

@catch87 so sorry to hear about your mum, I hope she continues to make good progress in hospital

    @anna6 get well soon

Thanks, @simcoeluv ! And wow, I’ll have to look back to see who here suggested this and if anything else’s been said. There is a difference bw 24 and 36 hours fast, for sure. I like the fast idea a lot and it has great science behind it. Probably even good for our telomeres !!

    THANKS !
    Ah-tee

    Hi Ah:

Many have said it. It apparently was listed as an ‘alternative’ to 5:2 in the Fast Diet book at one time. But the people that came here and followed it in large part have gone away, probably because it does not work very well. They eat more on day one because they are going to be ‘fasting’, and then eat more on day two because they were hungry after their ‘fast’.

The FAQ at the top of the page explains it.
