Day 18 | London | NFD
Fasting days complete for this week, I will really try to mindful heading towards the weekend. Dinner with mum tonight, so today will be a 16:8. I don’t want to backtrack on my progress.
Good day all.

Day 15 : Cheshire, UK : NFD
Day 16 : Cheshire, UK : NFD
Day 17 : Cheshire, UK : NFD
Day 18 : Cheshire, UK : Not sure yet.
My intended FD on Day 15 turned into a NFD. I’ve been bingeing again on sweets/choc and refined carbs. I’m currently experiencing menopausal fatigue and it’s debilitating. I’m taking today and tomorrow off work to recover. My job can be intense and I drive, on average, 400+ miles a week. I’m hoping that resting today will help me with my fasting. It’s a vicious circle as I know I will have more energy if I get back on the wagon properly but it’s difficult to keep my resolve when I’m just exhausted. It’s hard to explain but my whole body feels like a lead weight and I find it difficult to concentrate. A pharmacist friend who is studying nutrition has suggested that taking high dosage of Vitamin C daily will help with the low progesterone. Hoping this helps. I’m taking Vit B complex and Magnesium too. I’ve been taking Magnesium for a while plus baths and my sleeping is fine.
@jmh44 – Your reflective post on Day 16 is helpful and I could relate to your comment on Day 17 ‘I may get a bit restless’. That was a lightbulb moment for me as I know that I’m not craving carbs, hungry or bored. I think I’m just restless so I will try and just be with the restlessness without reaching to eat something. Thank you.
@lola907 – thank you for the instagram link. I’ve seen this before on FB but it’s good to be reminded. I’ve put back on 8lbs but I don’t want to expel 8lbs again as I feel I looked too slim and wrinkly 🙂 Would love to tone up. Maybe yoga and dancing would help. I’m not a fan of the gym. I do indoor climbing but the extra lbs are really noticeable.
@fatrabbit – YES to the new recipe. Everything you cook sounds delicious.
@coda – how exciting! Your OH sounds lovely and thoughtful. How long have you been together/married? I can’t wait to find out your surprise 🙂 Also, thank you for sharing @fitnfast post.
@Strawberriesandcream – good to have you back. Thank you for the video link. I’m more a visual learner so videos are better for me in retaining information.
@at – hope you are enjoying your break away down south.
@pissupoosa = thank you for the spreadsheet. I’ve updated it. 🙂
Happy Thursday everyone! xoxo
Day 18 – UK – FD
@coda – Thank you for your latest interesting post. I have had a quick look at the dietdoctor.com site and it is full of useful information regarding low carb and intermittent fasting. I think it will be helpful with our journey on letting go of these unwanted pounds forever.
Your husband sounds just wonderful, lucky you. Have a wonderful time, whatever he has planned for you this weekend.
Hi
@goldensun – we will be married 37 years 21 June (all being well) lol we have USA travel to navigate soon, getting to and from hotels, train stations on time etc – that will be fun!
@Chiltown Gal and @songbirdme going to your neck of the woods first. So apart from Big Willie what other sights in Chicago should not be missed. OH was intrigued when I told him we would be seeing a big willie lol!
So I know we are only just over half way through the month but can someone remind me who if anyone volunteered to be our leader for June? I was also thinking with the technology that @pissupoosa has enabled and now we can all see the spread sheet and make adjustments – is it possible when the month is up to put a spread sheet at the beginning of the June challenge and those that want to sign up can add their name to the spread sheet, updating it as we go along? So it doesn’t fall to anyone to spend time updating it – the onus would be on us. @pissupoosa can you advise if this is possible? I only know the basics of spread sheet use and have never used google spread sheets before. You did an amazing job @pissupoosa 🙂
Day 18 – USA (Utah) – NFD
Good travel day yesterday although I had more bread in that one day than I have had in quite a while. It was okay; needed the carbs to navigate all the walking I did.
Looking forward to some good time with daughter and 2 granddaughters who live here. But it is so cold compared to what we had in Illinois before I left! Crazy weather we’re all having.
I’m looking forward to meeting @coda in Chicago in June! How fun it will be to connect with a nickname from so far away and over a year ago when she began these challenges. Also anxious to hear more about that birthday surprise that will happen!
Onward and downward.
Day 18 – USA – NFD
Got up to 913 calories yesterday, so I’ll declare it a CD rather than a FD! @songbirdme and @coda, @Chitowngal is my BFF from Chicago, where I lived until 2012. She doesn’t really read the threads apart from checking in, so I will tell her about @coda‘s visit and I’m sure she will LOVE to meet both of you! @basyjames, may I suggest you eat more healthy fat and that will satiate you. @lmrenfrey, congrats on the loss! @Strawberriesandcream, forgot to welcome you back; good to hear from you again…Dr. Berg was one of the first videos I learned from about nutrition in general and specifically IF and LCHF. @coda, happy birthday in advance and we are all in suspense to see what your OH has planned for you! I watched the Dr. Westman video the other day about the “page 4” list….I heard it was free to download, but I wasn’t able to do it. Do you have to pay for it?
Day 18-Albuquerque–FD
Back on the wagon! I’m going to try and just drink all day, then have 800 calories tonight for dinner (but brought a hard-boiled egg to work just in case.)
@bigviking – What kind of scale do you use? Do you think maybe you’re building muscle and that’s why your weight isn’t going down? If you buy yourself a scale that measures body fat, muscle mass, bone mass and water, you can really see how other factors influence weight. I bought a Tanita scale but there is also another manufacturer (Omron) that gets good reviews, and probably others as well. Tanita recommends you weigh in every day for a week (or even a month for women because of water retention during our periods) and average all the numbers in order to get a baseline. Rather than weight gain feeling like a setback, it’s interesting to see how the amount of water in your body changes the fat % reading.
Day 18 US FD
Mornings are always pretty easy for me on FD’s it’s the evenings that I have to watch out for.😊 Although I want to keep up the burning of the fat. ✨keep on burning, baby. Wishing all a great and Controlled NFD or FD.😀
@lindasue Wow, I’m impressed. It seems that counter pushups and triceps dips helped to stop the eating impulse. I’ve been using Hand weights in the day. I could use that tip …. on nights when I find myself awake and fighting the urge to eat. TY😊
@skinnylove Situations like that can be awkward. Good for you for handling it the best that you can. Remember we are sending you the good vibes.✨ I think sharing can be empowering.✨
@coda TY✨For the empowering information and also TY✨ @fitnfast. I have seen when I have eaten or drankthe carbs, sugar and yes alcohol, It can take at least 3 days to get back to FB (fat burning mode.) Thanks for sharing.😀
@lilymartin Seinfeld, I know we would enjoy his show also! Have a great time! I’m thinking your probably drinking water. I get headaches if I don’t drink at least 1.5 L of water on FD’s.
@fraub I think staying below your goal weight TDEE is going to help you have great FD’s and weight loss. ✨Keep on burning ✨
@bigviking Oh sooo Frustrating. Remember the water and the whoosh effect. If you like I can repost the link. The burning off of fat is happening now, it’s just being replaced with water (to keep homeostasis). Then the water and fat will flushed away forever. Also check your measurements, they’ve may have gone down.✨
@strawberriesandcream I’m looking forward to watching that video.
@coda Very Awesome of your OH. It sounds very romantic and exciting.✨🎶Where in the USA are you going to be traveling? Also, I think keeping the spreadsheet and starting new with people adding there own names and info is a great idea. I’m for that.✨

@keetseel I’m adding you to the Pocketeers! Have a great FD! Has it been easy enough to set up your scale? Has the weight been accurate? We have one from Greater Goods. It’s been ok, but I have questions about it.

Thanks @metatauta can’t believe it’s only a few weeks away.
Day 18 US FD
@coda That sounds like so much fun! Lots of great things to do in Chicago and Seattle. Train rides can be very romantic.✨
I had to make an update on the Pocket list. @fordprefect had a very low cal dinner last night, and no snacks as usual as of lately. I thought yesterday he had, had a FD. He’s having a FD today so I posted a b2b. Then I saw he posted he had a NFD yesterday. So now I need to correct it. 🙄🤣

Please call or email me when you’re going to be in Chicago, I would love to meet up with you both together or separately and show you around. The lakefront is a sure thing to see. I don’t know if either of you ride a bike but we have bike rentals all over the city, we can take a ride on the lakefront. We also have comedy clubs, navy pier, museums and endless tasty food of every kind. My phone number is 773.875.3269 and my email is marykrzywicki@gmail.com Please keep in touch with your travel plans to Chicago.
@coda I have family in the midlands of UK, they are from Warrick. Went there about 12 years ago for a memorial for my brother in law that passed away. He is from there. Loved it!!
Day 19/NFD/Melbourne Australia
@coda what a wonderful OH. So exciting and thank you for the inspirational posts.
Have a great and mindful day everyone.
Day 18 – FIN – NFD
Yesterday I came to the conclusion that two liquid fasts in one week is probably a bit too much after only trying them for the first time. I started feeling a bit dizzy in the afternoon and decided to thus break my fast – it’s hard to concentrate if you can’t really focus on the computer screen. I broke my fast with an apple, a few slices of cheese and a few pecan nuts. Later, I had a box of mini plum tomatoes and a few cherry tomatoes, cheese and a turkey cold cut on a thin crispbread, 100 g cottage cheese and cucumber. Ended up at a little over 500 kcal, about 506 according to my calculations.
Today hasn’t once again been that great in terms of eating. A lack of sleep has probably contributed in leading me to indulge a bit too much for my liking – after a smoothie (avocado, celery, apple, mint and spinach) during a meeting in the morning left me a bit too hungry for lunch, I tried the taffy left at the coffee table as a dessert treat, and it was a downward spiral from there – I ate most of what was left of the taffy (oops) and then, after returning home, had many (probably about 20 or more) mint chocolate drops and half of a twisted bun (as in bakery, not a hairstyle) bought at the fair, dipping the pieces into strawberry puree and later, yogurt. No surprise I’m feeling a bit stuffed now, after having dinner on top of everything else. Glad I have a FD planned for tomorrow.
@okeydokey Thank you for the tips! I don’t know if I can do much at this point anymore, but if my Hb levels indeed are too low on Tuesday, I’ll certainly start incorporating the food items you mentioned into my diet. I love kale chips, so seeing you (and others) talk about them earlier really got me craving some. Should keep that in mind the next time I visit the store.
@songbirdme I hope so too. I did visit the Alps in March, so perhaps the high elevation has helped my body increase its Hb levels. I also just read a bit more into the matter, and apparently our blood cells die after 120 days and get replaced. I can certainly understand the way you see it – donating blood forces the body to recreate a lot more than it does on a usual rate, and new (blood) cells are naturally healthier than older ones. I’m also donating to the (Finnish) Red Cross, so it makes sense that the Hb limit is the same (125 g/l = 12.5 g/dl).
@pissupoosa Great to hear that you’re donating as well! I have to admit that I only started recently – last year – but I agree that it’s great that you can help so much by doing seemingly so little (filling in a questionnaire, getting picked in the finger and then laying down for a while, and even getting a free snack afterwards).
It’s interesting that the resting period between donations is so different in different countries.
Day 18 – SW WA USA – FD
What glorious sun we have today! Feels so good!
@imrefrey – congrats on moving so much weight & getting below a 25 BMI! That’s wonderful!
@coda – it sounds as though you have a wonderful hubby! Enjoy your celebratory weekend. It’ll be fun to hear what he had planned.
@strawberriesandcream – Thanks so much for the video link for Dr. Eric Berg’s video. I watched two of his immediately & look forward to checking out more. He does make IF clear & easy to understand.
@krisnia – I was wondering if on your FDs you might want to try a cup of Herb ox chicken granulated bouillon for only 5 calories. I find it quite satisfying and there’s no msg in it & it does help with sodium. On another challenge someone mentioned the importance of salt on FDs. I buy this brand at WinCo in Washington so it’s quite reasonably priced.
Day 18 : Cheshire, UK : FD
So today is a successful fast day in that I had 507 calories at 8.30 pm. The rest of the day was just water and herbal tea. I was going to make it a liquid fast day but I don’t feel strong enough for that.
@coda – wow.. congratulations on the length of your marriage. It must be lovely to have spent a lifetime with someone and still have lots of love and affection for each other.
xoxo
Day 18 – NFD – Toronto
I was a naughty girl at the Italian restaurant last night and then had legit nightmares through the night which has happened just once before when I went to sleep drunk on red wine. My googling tells me that Chianti may be the culprit. Has anyone else experienced this?
As a result, I was up early, got in a good lower body workout before 8 a.m. and ate the largest salad of my life for lunch. The clincher is that tonight has tacos and margaritas in the forecast – something tells me that 5:2 is going to get harder in the summer months for a reason! lol!
@goldensun like most we have had our ups and downs but we have weathered the storms like in 5:2 we keep on keeping on lol.
@metatauta I’m still trying to locate the Dr westman video. Would seem some are free others you can just see a preview. I’ll have to ask @fitnfast if he has a link or maybe he is a member.
Day 18, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD
Hello all, today’s weight was 141.4 – below goal weight of 145.
Went out with friends today, committee meeting and lunch. I just had a grilled cheese and water at lunch, had a McDonald’s ice cream cone a bit later, some of my husband’s taco rice when I got home – now am eating pancakes and sausage for dinner. What a wacky bunch of food….
But, enjoyed it all.
Have to hit the exercise room and get some more water in me.
Also have to check out the thread. Wishing you all well.
Day 18 Maine NFD
Such a fun day yesterday – Mama Mia was delightful.
I was fairly controlled all day yesterday, but had 2 white wine spritzers w/ dinner, then a glass of white wine before show. Big glass of water w/apple cider vinegar before bed. Woke up in the middle of the night w/horrible leg cramps – so bad that my legs are still sore today. Does anyone else get these? I think I was dehydrated – yet have felt horrible all day, like I have the flu. Just drinking ice water all day. I take magnesium – usually that keeps cramps at bay. But, it’s been warm here & w/having friends for dinner, just didn’t drink the water I usually do. Lesson learned…the hard way.
Postponed fast day ’til tomorrow….looking forward it!
Day 19 FD
Struggling hugely today.
Since last week if found it really really really difficult to stick to a FD, I have no clue why but my head is just not in it.
I’ve had an apple and cheese then followed up two hours later with Greek yoghurt and raspberries.
I’ve planned a Quorn and vege stirfry for dinner but I want so much more!!!
I just keep replaying in my head that I can break it and do it another day…I know there are no more days this week and I just keep delaying and putting it off.
Normally I just have one meal at night on a FD but I knew that wasn’t going to work today so I’ve tried to keep the cals under 500 and spread it out to sustain me.
I needed to login here and let out my struggle, I have no clue what I’ll do to get through until dinner…or after dinner for that matter but I’m trying hard
Day 18 | Alaska | FD
Today went pretty good. I had to go to a luncheon for work but sat at the coffee only table, it wasn’t so bad. Frank lots of water and loads of green tea all day. I now save all my calories for dinner which is much more rewarding than spreading them out. Find that I’m eating the same thing every Fast day cuz it’s simple and satiating. A 6 oz burger with two runny eggs. Hits the spot. Now I just have to fight my need for a piece of chocolate and go to bed.
Hope everyone had a good day.
Hello all uk Co Down day 19 nfd
Woke up before the alarm so thought I would check in early.
@scs I use to get terrible cramps that would have me leaping out of bed and walking up and down the hall trying to stretch it out. It seemed to coincide with lots of trips to the loo and a drop in weight. So i was maybe not replenishing enough water. Touch wood they haven’t happened for a while. Things to look out for – water and minerals/salt.
@lany36 – ease up then, give yourself permission to have an extra few hundred calories to have something nice. Better that than feel you have blown it and add a thousand more! Then fd the next day or 800 cals for a few days until you feel better. Try waiting till your evening meal but plan a healthy meal, one you will really look forward. Before you give in to that urge to eat off plan, drink water first it maybe you are dehydrated, especially given your job.
Day 19 UK NFD
185lbs again. Stuck here despite a perfect fast day yesterday. Didn’t eat for a full 24 hours then 500 calories. No change:( Sometimes it seems there is no rhyme nor reason to this. Last week I splurged on cheese and chocolate and I ousted weight, this week I stick to the plan and gain! Still there is no denying my loose clothes, I know it works, if only on its own mysterious schedule. I just need to carry on regardless.
The rain has spurred the garden on to new bursts of colour and rampant growth. Everytime I go out there something else is flowering and the paths are being narrowed by plants spilling out of the borders and my hair is being attacked by climbing roses and clematis and leaning lilacs as I work. The rabbits are loving their long days out following the sunny patches around their enclosures and digging and foraging and doing what rabbits do best (we would have thousands if not for the vet). Now the jumpers are off everyone is commenting about how slim I am. Even with another 20kg to go. It just shows how big I had let myself get, but that is now in the past. Onwards and downwards…
DAY 19 – UK – FD (??)
Am trying my 4th fd in a row. Yesterday went well BUT I ate over my 400 cals allowance – probably 600 again…but had an amazing nights sleep…..and had lost 1lb this morning, so am delighted. I am finding it too difficult to keep to 400 cals…, but 600 is definitely do-able, so I’m sticking with it for the time being.
I went to bed at 8.30pm (!!) to keep away from the cals. and had a read but must have slept for 8 hours which is a record…I had forgotten what it felt like to fall asleep and wake up in the morning, instead of 1 or 2 am. Have no idea why this is happening, I have sent away for some pre-biotics as experimented by Michael, but they haven’t arrived yet…perhaps I won’t need them. Headaches are decreasing too….perhaps my body is just now accepting the rhythm of fasting. It feels good.
I shall enjoy eating to my tdee on the weekend, but will exclude sugar and keep to low carbs, and try another 4 fd’s next week. Suddenly I see a break thru’ and I just might be on a downward trend again after months of plateauing. I am excited.
Good luck all x
Day 19 – FIN – FD
Wonderful weather – the sun’s out and the forecast has promised temperatures at around 20°C for the first time this year. Can’t complain. The colder period up until now has also meant that the pollen season is not hitting us that hard this year. I haven’t had any symptoms up until now (right now I do feel that my eyes are slightly puffy) even though yesterday I could see that some birch trees were already in full bloom.
Interesting read: ‘Fat but fit is a big fat myth’ (BBC)
@songbirdme No need to beat yourself up for things you’ve never been taught/learned – I still have a hard time wrapping my head around some of the units you (US & UK) use – especially oz and stones are a mystery to me, I always have to use a unit convertor to translate them into something I can comprehend.

Day 19 UK NFD 🌈
Just catching up on posts from the last few days, been busy. Must say that they have really helped as I was feeling very disheartened. Stepped up my gym visits and water in take and put on 4lbs!!! 😩
How can this be I ask myself? 🤔then I read the posts 🙏and it seems
1. Muscles are getting bigger,💪🏼
2. Water maybe being retained to repair muscles from exercise💧
3. Keep going eventually it will show a difference – whether in weight or body (hopefully both)😃🤸🏼♀️
So thanks guys, I will keep on keeping on 👊🏻
@jmh44 loved the list of points about what you have learned about yourself, going to write out my own list
@loubelles your comments really helped me stick to it, mentioned above
@coda – complacency not my friend either, good to write it down and realise, I do the “as I’m doing more exercise one little BAR of chocolate won’t hurt and helps replenish energy” er really??? Oops.
@lany36 – feeling exactly the same as u (day 15)
@flourbaby – LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️ Drown the Dragon 🐉 water sentiment, adopting (stealing) that one!
Hi 2nd post – @fatrabbit I think what @fitnfast found out that a splurge can set you back 3 days – so if you had a run in with the cheese, that may not show until 3 days or more later which may be why staying on plan this week is not showing just yet. The body is very mysterious in the way it works. You also have had a good run lately – have you relaxed a little?
Been thinking about the dreaded plateau and how frustrating it can be – what if we think about them in steps in our downward journey – sometimes we skip down little narrow steps quite easily but sometimes the steps are quite long and we have to travel quite a distance to get down to the next level. But the only way to get down to the next level is keep on keeping on. No use getting frustrated and angry as what happens then is we about turn and we start going back the way we came. We have to keep our eyes focused to see the edge of the next step down. What can we do to make sure the steps down are as easy as possible? Mix it up a bit – nothing like boredom to sabotage a plan, drink water, incorporate some HIIT and this doesn’t always mean hitting the gym – have you a bottom stair or step – use these, incorporate your arms or knee raises, rest and begin again. Anything can be turned into a HIIT session. And plan, plan what you are having, plan something nice, plan a treat. But if you do hit a long broad step – just keep on keeping on and you will eventually find the next level.
Day 19, Newcastle UK, NFD
The ‘Whoosh effect’ article is very interesting and makes lots of sense in terms of ‘the no rhyme or reason’ a lot of us feel about our results. What we do know is that if we stick at this WOL we do see a downsizing pattern in general. And there was me thinking that the ‘Whoosh effect’ was a colloquialism for something else. Another numpty moment.
Food wise this week has been going to plan (apart from the medicinal bottle of Rose that wheedled itself in).
@lany36 – sounds like your one meal a day does work for you on fast days vs letting your hunger dragon out early. But given your physically demanding job, sounds like your body is asking for more. If you like cottage cheese (with fat) it is still pretty low in calories but high in protein and a small tub is very filling. That could help sustain you until your final meal of the day.
Have a good Friday friends – together we are stronger.
also – what if we are dealing with these plateaus the wrong way? When we are stuck or going up and down we either try to do more fast days or reach for the wrong things to comfort us. What if we instead of trying more fast days we just take a few days to eat healthily (being the operative word) and then fasting again. No guilt, just resting and resetting? Just my thoughts but maybe someone who is on a long broad step would like to give it a go?
Day 19, London, UK, FD
Quick check-in; 3rd FD this week, hopefully it will go smoothly as I intend to keep busy with pilates and visiting my parents today.
I’ll catch-up later, keep the faith everyone, I had a 2lb whoosh this morning after a mindful NFD yesterday……… THIS WORKS, just don’t give up!!!
