  • Day 17 US FD ~500-800?
So far @booper.dooper and I made a couple servings of kale crisps. For brunch, Nice to have and the mineral content gives us consistent energy. Other than that only drinking water 💦 does make a difference in having energy and as per my fit bit my metabolism and heart rateis reaching fat burning mode more often when walking after drinking water.
I noticed when I was 181 lbs., my heart rate would be at 80 bpm or higher more often during the day and even if I was anxious about something. 80 bpm or above is the heart rate, based on fit bit, that shows your body is in fat burning mode.
Now that I’m @ 156 lbs my heart rate doesn’t go up as much. I have to drink more water and intentionally walk or do exercise to keep my heart rate in fat burning mode. So I’ve learned I have to drink more water and that it helps in increasing my metabolism in moving into fat burning mode. Hopefully I can continue with the weight loss.😊

@bert1802 I had read your question and wrote this response. Then I saw all the great advice from @coda @loubelles I will still post my response even though some of it is very similar.😊 Sometimes I’m concerned about the weight not moving downward also. By doing more exercise it might shake things up. I think ultimately eating less calories than what we burn will cause more weight loss. Maybe change your FD’s to different days or all water fast, or a b2b. Re check your TDEE for the lower goal weight to achieve your newer lower goal weight. Oh yes, there is always drinking more water.✨I hope some of this info might help.✨
@chumi My hubby had his blood work done and his globulins were down. Eating peas and driedi fruit such as apricots and prunes. Eating Kale (we like crispy Kale) will bring the globulins and the iron level up.
@scs That sounds like so much fun, going to the summer playhouse and seeing “Mama Mia” ✨Have a great time!😊
@coda Thank-you for your post💛 I will be doing the feasting 😅part of my plan this June at my Niece’s wedding and when we go to San Diego. ✨Also I’m sure very few FD’s unless I can muster up a lot of self control. I think it could be a way to get control of my NFD. I’m sure people who are maintaining often have NFD’s not much more calories 400~500 Than they have on a FD of 500. But then again so many family dinners with our extended family. I will try to eat salad and healthy fish 🐟 or chicken if I get a chance. 😊
@coda a 🎶🎉Birthday Surprise!🎶🥂How wonderful! Wishing you an early ✨🎶🥂Happy Birthday🎶🍰🎈🎶🎉 You deserve a wonderful Birthday and Good luck for this next year!✨🎶🎉

@strawberriesandcream Thank-you✨ also You are welcome and I’m glad you had a wonderful vacation!✨🎶🎉
    I am long winded today.😊

    Day 17, Germany, NFD

    Day 17 UK NFD

Had successful controlled FD yesterday. Had planned for 800 calories but ended up only eating just under 600 so very pleased with that. Enjoying reading all the inspirational posts, tips and hints!

    Still day 17 –

@loubelles – TY for your sharing how you began moving the weight again after a plateau & @coda your comments are also helpful. I’ve been staying steady basically since the beginning of April.

@scs – sounds like a wonderful start to summer. Enjoy Mama Mia!

@lindasue – you made gave me a chuckle reading your description of making it through the wee hours of the morning.

Still Day 17 | Second post

FD going ok so far. Only taken sparkling water during the day and a few pieces of sugar-free gum to ward off the munchies.
Had 2 cups of Roobush tea after coming home from work.
Have had a few tummy rumbles but managed to get through those.

7-8am tomorrow will be my 36th hour of fasting. I’m going to try and hold out till lunch time and make it a >40h. I feel motivated after my 0.9kg eradication!
@coda and @okeydokey – great alternatives for weight ‘loss’ – I agree, I don’t want to find any of it again!

No plans to fast between Fri-Mon – in fact it will be quite the opposite I think, with the whole family coming together for a 7-yr old’s birthday! My sister’s cakes are well known 😛

Welcome back @strawberriesandcream. Glad you had a good holiday.

And YES PLEASE to the sweet potato curry recipe – I love that stuff! Thank you @fatrabbit!

To add something to peoples posts/comments about ‘scale numbers’ – I’m on the camp that, a number isn’t everything. A few 100 grams gain here and there isn’t worth getting mad/sad over.
My experience has been that changes in (my) body measurements – waist, hip, chest – correlate better with fat loss than actual weight on the scales. So I tend to rely on those more.

@skinnylove – sorry to hear about your encounter with your ex-! I’m sure many of us can totally relate to emotional eating in such situations. (Easier said than done, but…) think of it like this – you’re making active and positive changes to your body and wol, (as the rebel in me would say…) that must be apparent to him and may be that’s why he’s being like that towards you – a bit of jealousy and resentment…maybe?

Gosh is that the length of my second post?!
    Right time for bed.
    Good night all xx

    Day 18 / UK / NFD

@strawberriesandcream, @pissupoosa and indeed the forum as a whole, thank you so much for the support! That’s the thing that annoys me: change has been positive but by allowing myself to indulge over the ex I sabotage this very change and while that’s okay once or twice I have formed a habit all too quickly!

Technically I had more than would befit a FD today, but I skipped dinner in exchange. This isn’t quite how it works but I am taking baby steps. It’s been a blergh week. I won’t even make it to the gym once this week, just too much going on in all areas of my life. Planned indulgence tomorrow, so be it then.

@chumi – hope you are able to donate. I honestly think I am healthier because my body regenerates that pint! In my blood bank (American Red Cross) everyone can give every 8 weeks, 56 days. I do take a small 13 mg of iron about every other day to keep up my level. For us it is a hemoglobin of 12.5 g/dL or higher. Mine is generally about 14.

@scs – enjoy your summer stock theater! “Mamma Mia” is ever so much fun. In my younger years, I did a lot of community theater, but not so many roles for 69 year olds. I had some very fun ones, some big and some smaller. Generally now they ask me to be musical director or accompanist. Sometimes I give voice lessons to some participants. Your gathering of friends sounds perfect!

@bert – hugs and wishes for strength with co-workers and cookies!

    Day 17-Albuquerque-NFD

Spent the weekend in Boston/on airplanes so did the opposite of fasting–that is, ate all day long. I still get airsick like a little kid so I need a steady diet of saltines to keep things mellow. Plus Boston has good bagels.

Today was the health fair at work; only gained a pound after the weekend so that’s good. Also, they took my blood to test for lipids/glucose and cholesterol. I am curious to get a baseline to see if IF will help with my slightly high levels.

@lindasue–I’ve spent many a sleepless night thinking about what I’m going to eat as soon as the time is right!

Hoping everyone else is having a great Wednesday! Or Thursday if you’re on that side of the world.

    Day 17 lancaster 🇺🇸 NFD

Day 18 NFD country West Australia 72.6 kgs
Had another good FD yesterday. I felt a bit faint about 4pm but a mandarin settled that.
Drank lots of water, had a small dinner and was busy congratulating myself. However the scales haven’t really changed.
The worst thing is that the headache is looming . Am trying to stay off the meds but have a long day at work so will see…. Bit of a nuisance as I thought I had conquered the fasting headaches.
Possibly should have eaten a little more during the day.
An odd thing with fasting is that I find I am really clear headed for thinking on FDs. Does anyone else find that?
I felt like George on Seinfeld when he is having all these ideas. His eyes light up and he goes around talking 10 to the dozen and snapping his fingers .
I LOVE that show and am so happy that our children got us tickets to see Seinfeld when he comes to Perth – can’t wait!
@strawberriesandcream, welcome back. Yes a good rant IS cathartic and helps us get over disappointments and just get on with things.
@bert102. I’m not sure what is happening with my body but weight loss isn’t!! despite some good FDs and reasonable NFDs, except for the last weekend, I can’t get under 70kgs and I’ve been stuck for months.
Have just decided to admire the view from this plateau until the Fat Fairy decides she’s had enough and takes herself and her family off somewhere.
Plus I console myself with all the other health benefits of fasting. I am eating less and I love the way I feel when I have less for my body to digest.
    Tally ho! Onward we go!😸

    Day 18 – UAE – FD
    Day 17 – UAE – NFD
    Day 16 – UAE – NFD

Goo day all. A quick check in …

    Day 18 Brunei NFD

Today will hopefully be controlled. I had some homemade toast with marmite and a boiled egg to break my fast. I’ll have a very light lunch and then penne arrabiata and salad for tea and probably a dash of red wine….

I’ve been sleeping really badly for the past two weeks and that hasn’t helped my overall feeling of well being. I’ve also discharged the easy 2 kilos and the one that’s gonna be really tough is the one I need to wave goodbye to before the month is up. So that means taking really care on NFDs, especially at the weekend and going below my TDEE as much as I can.

    Onward and downward everyone!
    🙂

    Day 17 | Alaska | NFD

I did pretty well yesterday with control on my NFD but I still had a 1.2 pound bounce back increase today. I know this is because I indulged on mothers day and gained 3.5 pounds and then lost 2.8 pounds on my fast day. The bounce back always bums me out nonetheless. I’ve been really controlled today, but am about to go to a work function which entails booze and buffet. I’m really going to do my best to be controlled. I really want tomorrow’s fast day to count and not just negating bad choices made today. Sometimes the constant battle is just exhausting.

In an effort to be accountable, I’m going to post here after my function. I really want to post my victory…perhaps this will help me stay in control. Stay tuned.

    LOL 🙂

Day 17 NFD St. Louis USA
    Weight 138.2 lbs
    Will be fasting tomorrow.
I’m not fasting today and indulged in a couple of treats. I’m not a big sugar eater but I love white cake with White icing and I had a small piece along with a cake pop. That should do me for a while as long as I avoid parties.

@pissapoosa most grateful for your efforts.

Got a chance to skim through posts. Sorry not to post more. I do enjoy reading and think of many of you.

    Good luck all.

    Day 18 Tas Australia FD

Hoping everyone on a plateau has some downward movement on the scales or with the way your clothes are fitting very soon.

    Day 18: Northumberland, UK: NFD

Bit of a carb rich day yesterday, though inside TDEE – home made pizza for tea. Thoroughly enjoyed but as expected a bounce back on the scales this morning. Terrible nights sleep thanks to the littlest sleep thief, so not expecting to find it easy to avoid the carbs. Hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze in some gym time as I know that will help and as I’m giving blood tomorrow I won’t be having my usual Friday morning exercise. Having said that 3.5 months ago when I started this I did not expect to lose this much weight (and inches) this quickly, or that I would own gym clothing, and especially not that I would be starting to feel comfortable being seen in public wearing sports leggings etc.

Tomorrow will also be a NFD, and quite possibly I will allow myself some extra treats after giving blood. Might not check in properly again until Monday but will try and get in to at least read the posts or it takes too long to catch up 🙂

    So:
Day 19: Northumberland, UK: NFD (feast day?)
    Day 20: Northumberland, UK: NFD
    Day 21: Northumberland, UK: NFD

    Day 18 Oman NFD
    16:8 today

    2nd post.

I think I did fairly well. Abstained from wine didn’t go back for seconds, no simple carb, and only had fruit and one bite of chocolate dessert.

Hopefully I will not have an increase tomorrow, little concerned about the dried figs… they were like candy.

All in all I think I did well.

    Day 18 UK FD 🌈

    Keep on keeping on. 👊🏻

2nd post – just realised that despite this mornings 2lb bounce I am 3 stone lighter than when i started this journey and my BMI has dropped below 25 :D. I don’t think I ever really accepted I had that much to lose, despite what the BMI said. Being this light definitely last happened in my early 20’s and I feel so much better for it.

    Day 18, UK, NFD

The scales keep going the wrong way! Since Monday I’ve added 0.7kg. This is after 2x 0 kcal FDs and 1x NFD, which probably finished around 3,000 kcal. According to my Fitbit I’ve expended over 10,000 kcal over these 3 days, So with a deficit of 7,000+ kcal I was hoping for a reduction – NOT an increase 😡

    Day 18 UK FD

185lbs again. Need a good fast day today.

    DAY 18 – UK – FD

B2b went well – but again probably ate 600 cals (Should be eating 400)…but despite promising myself not to get on the scales for a week after my hols. couldn’t resist a sneeky peek! Am back to pre-holiday weight – so thank you Fast Diet – it certainly is keeping my weight under control – I just need to be more vigilant about what passes my lips so that I can start that downward trend again. That last 6lbs to lose is so elusive!

Off on another long walk to-day – and hope that I can stick to my 400 cals. my last fd for 3 days.

Fatrabbit I shall certainly be making the curry – and kale crisps…

    Have a good day everyone.

    Day 18 NFD NZ
Fasted until 2pm then had a NFD rest of the day.
Will have a full FD tomorrow

    @bigviking – Scales are fickle creatures….

I added 0.8kg overnight despite a NFD under TDEE. I blame the carbs I consumed yesterday as I definitely got enough fluids in and a decent amount of fruit and veg but almost half of my calories were simple carbs.

How are other measurements going – are you losing fat, but gaining muscle? Sounds like you’ve been pretty active this week?

Day 18 UK NFD feeling good about how it’s going being able to go through the day on liquids and then enjoy a nice meal has got me back on an even keel ,hoping for a couple of controlled NFDs now

    Day 18
    West Midlands UK
    NFD

    Day 18 – UK – FD

Checking in quickly before heading out to look after 18 month old grandchild. Will give me an insight into how all those of you with small children cope with your FDs at feeding times!

    Day 18 – UK – FD

Hello day 18 UK Co Down FD

@bigviking I never use calories used through exercise to off set any additional eating but use them as a bonus. Eat to your TDEE on your non fast days. Some use exercise as a reason to eat a little more – but not sure if your body sees it that way. That little brain may think this person is working out a lot more I’ll hold on here in case they need a little extra energy. I know muscle weighs more than fat but if you build muscle they use more energy so maybe in the short term your weight could go up but then you should start to see decrease or certainly take up less space as your body tones and tightens.

@imrenfrey – 3 stone in just over 3 months – did I read that correctly? WOW It has taken me soooooooooooo much longer and I have not lost that much ha ha I have certainly taken the scenic route!

Big thinking about this birthday surprise – My OH likes to mislead people and throw them off the scent. Like the time he was taking me away for another birthday – he left printouts of Paris around the house, talked about Paris etc except when we got to the airport as he parked the car I found out there were no flights to Paris. We were actually going to New York! Or for my 50th – we were all driving to a restaurant to meet family for a meal (or so I thought) and passed this limo parked a few miles from our house. He then did a U turn and it turned out the limo was for us! It took us around Belfast while we drank bubbly and brought us to the SS Nomadic (this is the boat that took passengers to the Titanic and now sits in the Titanic Quarter) where lots of friends and family were waiting. So am not quite sure what is happening this weekend lol.

    Day 18, Newcastle UK, NFD

Gorgeous blue sky and sun today – long may it last. All going well on my post holiday downsizing programme. Fridge packed with fresh fruit, salad, lean meat fish and cheese.

Thanks to all for the interesting posts and links over the last two weeks – I have copied/saved to read later. Here is a link from Eric Berg who I follow on you tube explaining the power of intermittent fasting. I find he is very good at being able to explain things in a simple way that has helped me understand a lot more about the effects of insulin and other hormones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwCRjwDs1Ek&feature=em-subs_digest

@coda – thanks – you jogged my memory re @dykask – I remember reading his post on the last morning I posted before setting off on holiday – it seems so long ago – sighhhhh.

Onwards and downwards, together we are stronger.

    2nd post

You need to tell us your actual birthday date @coda – would hate to miss it. Your Hubby’s plans sound very exciting!!!!

Hi I saw another post from someone and although I have asked if its ok to copy it they haven’t come back to me yet but I am sure they won’t mind. This is from @fitnfast

So I began 5:2 again, religiously, NO EXCUSES, but beyond that, I had started watching some videos on dietdoctor.com, having followed the link from Dr. Jason Fung’s web site. The one video that really hit me was the one from Dr. Eric Westman “How to Do an LCHF Diet”. In his presentation, he “role plays” his actual position as head of nutrition counseling at Duke (I think) University hosital, and he treats you as if you were a patient signed up for his program.

The one thing he says that THUNDERSTRUCK me is this: He has a list of approved foods, and he holds it up and he says, ANY TIME YOU DEVIATE FROM THIS LIST, YOU SET YOURSELF BACK 3 DAYS.”

I thought to myself, wow! That is why I was never losing weight! I would eat really good for a couple of days, then to congratulate myself, I would treat myself, thinking it was only hurting me for a couple of hours or a day! But 3 days! I never thought of it in those terms! But once that hit home, I was done “cheating”. I don’t even think of it as cheating anymore. Since I watched that video, I haven’t eaten ONE piece of bread, muffin, cookie, fast food item, ice cream, and my one low carb “treat” that I used to have every other night (or, yeah, sometimes every night, to be honest, and in large quantities) is now once a week, and a smaller quantity. What a huge impact that man and his words have had on me.

Another change is this: On Dr. Fung’s web site, it was said, and I do believe, and it is said here, that steady state cardio has little to do with weight loss. And I agree. It can even derail your weight loss. I am not so sure any more. Since I restarted what I explained above, I thought, I sure would like to be a firmer thin than I was last year. Sure, I was thinner. But I never had that flat belly (I am in my 50’s, so probably never will but could expect to be firmer). So 3 weeks ago, I restarted working out. Lightly at first, to see what would happen, then increased. Guess what? The weight is still pouring off! My average is 2 lbs a week. I couldn’t be happier! I wish I had figured it out sooner, but better late than never! And I may not have all the answers, but maybe a couple. I will update as I go along, and hope maybe this will help others.

Me again – I will have to see if I can find the video they refer to. So maybe if we think that an indulgence will knock us back 3 days – not just the day after we may decide its just not worth it?

    @strawberriesandcream lol its the 24th

    Day 18, Gozo Malta, NFD

I’m 2 kilos above my target weight of 64 kilos. I had about 350 calories already this morning and want to eat within my tdee as sometimes I go over this. I’m only fasting on mondays but want to eliminate these two kilos so I hope to fast even for a half day sometimes. Today I went for a 20 mins walk .

    Have a great Thursday everyone.

@coda – it’s nearer 4 months, but yes the weight has gone incredibly quickly. The rate has slowed down, and now there is much less fat left to lose I expect it to slow considerably. This WOE has just clicked for me. It’s the first time I’ve managed to get my head in the right place to properly look at my diet, and calorie counting EVERYTHING has kept my brain in the game. I did start more with BSD than 5:2, all be it at nearer 1000 calories, and as a result reduced carbs from the start, which I think it probably a big factor as I see quite a large bounce in weight when I over indulge in the carbs. After the first 2 stone I felt much more motivated to exercise too and joined the local leisure centre so I am now adding in gym or swim sessions regularly in addition to my Aquafit classes, and overall I have a much healthier me.
I echo @strawberriesandcream about the birthday – does sound very exciting.

London | Day 18 | FD to NFD…coming to the end of 40h fast.

An early post as I wont be able to check in tonight – we’ll be driving up to Scotland.
Still fasting (38h and counting) hoping to make it until lunch – feeling quite good because this is the longest I’ve done in quite a while – since Jan/Feb maybe?

@skinnylove – habits are hard to break. I’ve been in very similar situations with ex’s. While you know it’s a destructive habit, you still do it. Don’t despair – allow small changes (baby steps as you say) and you’ll get there.

@chumi and @songbirdme – I’m regular blood donor too. We’re allowed to give every 16 weeks in the Uk and I try and keep to that. I usually time it for my mom’s b’day (Oct), dad’s b’day (March) and mom’s death anniversary (May) 🙂
I find it such a rewarding thing to do.

@bigviking – I feel your frustration. have you tried hip/waist measurement to is if there’s any change? Possible some water retention is going on maybe?

All the best everyone – for FDs and NFDs xx

    Day 18 – Switzerland – NFD

Hi everyone – sorry for dropping off the thread there for a while. I’ve had my Mum and a friend over to visit, so 5:2 went by the wayside somewhat, and now it’s proving difficult to get my feet on the pedals again. Aiming for a FD tomorrow.

Thanks for your calorie song @lilymartin! One thing I’ve noticed over the last couple of weeks, is that if I’m about to sneak something from the fridge that I probably ought not to, I start to whistle to myself. Really odd, no idea why (but could use it to trigger some kind of alarm to bring me to my senses maybe…). Wonder if I need to go back to the old pinging-the-elastic-band-round-the-wrist therapy… Ow.

Need to join @strawberriesandcream with the epic catch-up reading…

    Day 18, London, UK, NFD

Quick post just to check-in, looking forward to todays’ NFD. I’ve calculated everything I’ll eat today and I won’t deviate………….. I need to jump-start the weight loss again!! All within a 5hr eating window before yoga after work.

Thanks for the post @coda, very informative (lightbulb moment!!!) I’ll have a look for the video mentioned too.

    Good luck everybody!!

P.S. I think the pocket list posted may have been for yesterday……………. Definitely a NFD for me today………. I need it!!

    @flourbaby
Oops didn’t check the date on the fasting list.

    Day 18, Belfast, FD

Wow, we’re getting through May at a pace! Had a bit of a wobble earlier thinking ‘can I do this today?’. I’ve just gone and bought a bottle of fizzy water and cracking on with some work to keep my mind occupied. Of course I can do this. It’s no bother at all 🙂
Some lovely posts….@coda, sounds like you’ve got a treat in store! Amazing. the limo around Belfast to the Nomadic sounds like it was a great treat.
I think FlourBaby was right, yesterdays pocket list seems to have been posted. It’s the different time zones, man! Awesome!
I’ve gone through today’s posts and added all the FDers – apologies if I’ve missed anybody or added you by mistake.

Another sleepless night. Maybe more teeth are coming through? The last 10 nights or so have been OK. Anyway, I’m glad today is a NFD as I feel exhausted and I need food. Yesterday has been a good fast day and the scale was nice to me this morning. Pissupoosa, you are coming to where I live! Hope you enjoy the birthday (and the yummy cake!!! 😜)

    Day 18……Florida…… FD

So yesterday, I ended up not doing a FD, I got to thinking on my way to work that I probably should switch things up a bit. So an NFD, it became. I am having an FD most definitely today!
Thank you for all the sound advice you all have giving me. I’m going to find out one way or another which way makes things fall!

Ford Prefect……. last night, I convinced my boys to watch the first episode of the 1969 hitchhiker guide series. They were not to keen, on it being from the 1960’s but I did hear them laugh andd they did watch the whole thing with me. So, I’ve gotten myself a towel and I’m in search of a fish. They way, I’m looking at it in today’s standards and civilization is calling for us to have these things!

Okay, well I’m off! I’ve got to get through today as I have tomorrow off! Yippee for me!

Chin up Princess….. your crown is slipping!

    Day 18 USA FD

Adding myself to the pocket today. My main goal today is even more water. Had a lot of headaches on my last FD. Salt seems to be my main issue, since they go away with a salt blast, but I don’t think I can convince myself to drink salt water! Going to try some coconut water today to see if the electrolytes help.

Day 18 Chicago, Illinois USA – NFD

    Day 18 lancaster 🇺🇸. FD

Akron Ohio.Day 18 second of three b2b fasts. My office mate has been so impressed with my weight loss success that she’s joined 5:2. We fast on the same days to support each other. I’m excited for her. Yesterday was a bit rough, I stayed beneath 400 but was really tired by 5pm. Also had the mother of all headaches. I notice that happens if I refine-carb it up the day before a fast day. Refined Carbs are not my friend, but I have trouble staying away from them 🙁
