  • Day 11 NFD Pacific Northwest

    Wt 155 … down 1#

    Plateau, I don’t know. Little frustrated with not dropping more after yesterday’s Fast. Oh well, nothing comes easily. Going away this weekend (arghh! always difficult) will be with my daughter and friends for Mothers Day.

    Happy Mothers Day to ALL!

    Onward and Downward!

    Been a while…

    UK

    Day 5 FD
    Day 6 NFD
    Day 7 NFD
    Days 8-9 48 hour fast
    Day 10 NFD
    Day 11 FD

    So, I’m still on a weight plateau, but I’ve been exercising quite a lot and my legs in particular have more muscle on them so overall I’m not expecting weight loss until next week.
    I’m also still eating too much rubbish when I come off a long fast and need to plan better to avoid this – but it’s proving easier said than done!

    I’ve decided to mix up the eating and fasting regime I was on (midweek 600kcal via one evening meal) so that I’m eating more. I was worried I’d killed my metabolism with that regime, so I’m doing 1 long (36-48 hour) and one or two short (24 hour) fasts per week. I’d ideally switch to ADF, but this would interrupt weekends/family time.

    Hope all are good. Happy fasting people. You are impressive!

    Hi

    Nothing food related at all but am putting it out there to see if any in this world wide group can identify the problem.

    I have noticed that some of my shirts, tee shirts etc have little holes down near the bottom at the front and I am at a loss to know what is causing them. I noticed some of my sons had the same but put it down to them perhaps wearing a belt with buckle. I don’t. I mentioned it to a girl in work and she says her Mum has the same problem and they were putting it down to having a granite work top – but I don’t really think that would be the cause as the edges are not rough to cause holes. My OH thought I was catching the tops in a zip but don’t think so. Could it be a seat belt? I just noticed I have 4 little holes in the top I am wearing today which I didn’t notice when I put it on, could I have missed them – has it just happened? I have ruined a few nice tops with whatever is doing it – has it happened to anyone else and do you know what is causing it.

    Day 11 – NFD – Toronto

    By some miracle I actually lost 0.3 kg this week! After my eating WAY over TDEE on Friday and another two indulgent days my only hope was to get back to last week’s post-two-FDs weight (69.5). Am currently sitting at 69.2 and while this would likely be misery to most of you who lose more than 1lb a week with this WOL, I am content.

    Got in a good lower body workout this morning and only broke my fast when I got into work (i.e. 36+ hr fast!) Needless to say I was feeling almost weak by the end of my 30 min walk to work until I got my breakfast in at my desk!

    @bert1802 – So very sorry to hear of what you’re going through with your mum. Impressive that you are able to continue with this WOL despite the personal life stress. Do you find it is affecting your appetite by making you want to eat less/more? I have no advice except to say I am thinking of you as you go through this season of life!

    @pissupoosa Don’t think I’ve properly said thanks for volunteering to organize and lead this month. I am Malayalee in origin (kerala, south india) and we say poocha for cat, so your explanation of your username put a smile on my face 🙂

    @wellme

    I sympathise. My plateauing has lasted blooming 3.5 weeks now! I was even contemplating shaving my body hair off to try and get some scales movement 🙂
    On the positive, my jeans are looser and I feel great!

    The weight will drop eventually, it has to with the effort you are putting in.

    @pissupoossa can you please share the link to the spreadsheet. I keep hearing about it but I’m not sure where to look. Thanks.

    BTW, I don’t understand the Pocket Fasters…can someone explain?

    Location is lancaster Pennsylvania in the US. We have York pa as well about 30 miles west of here.

    DAY 11 – UK – NFD (again!)

    Day 11 FD St. Louis USA
    Busy day today so need to catch up on posts. Not sure if I’m on the pocket list and haven’t had time to pull it up. However if I’m not, I’m there with you in spirit. Good luck everyone.!!

    second post
    @okeydokey, no problem holding your hand. I did think of you during the day too and it helps to know others are with you across the globe.
    My poor DH has a dental appointment for Monday but he has the worst toothache/pain and has resorted to painkillers which he rarely ever takes. It is affecting his sleep so we are going to see if we can get an appointment tomorrow ( by some miracle perhaps as most dentists are so busy). He is really suffering and I don’t know how he will manage another 4 days.
    @belfastsink – Re up and down weight loss. I weigh daily but only record Saturday morning’s weight. Scales are very fickle and bounce up and down and all over the place, often without apparent rhyme or reason.
    Weighed at 3am this morning ( cold weather + fasting+ lots of fluid = super efficient kidneys!!), weighed 72.1 kgs. Got up at 6.30 am ( normal time for me), weighed 71.5 kgs. So 3 hours in bed sleeping resulted in 600 gm loss! ?? I usually allow 1-2 kgs either way , and although disappointed if it goes up that much, I realise that the number depends on so many factors.
    A bit like the current economy, as long as it is a downward trend ( bad for the economy but good weight-wise ) I am happy.
    @big-butshrinking-viking – congratulations . WOW !!!!

    @coda could it be your washing machine? Mine did that when a part fell off!

    Day 11 FD London UK

    Day 11 – UK – NFD

    Checking in, day 3 of having visitors and I have been making the right choices so far, still quite nervous as we are eating out a lot, but at least I am trying my best which is all we can do.

    @ pissupoosa – your spreadsheet is great, what a lot of work for you. Thank you so much

    Day11 UK FD

    Good luck to all the fasters today! Many thanks to @pissupoosa for the great spreadsheet this month!

    Day 10 UK NFD

    @slogan15 – I thought about washing machine but the holes are in the same place in each garment so ruled out washing machine.

    @basyjames – if you click on pissupossa’s name and click on replies created it will take you to all posts – scroll down and you will see the link. But for convenience here is it – hopefully
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SLq0JjjWe8jvsiubsJSS8owJ-qYfGYtY1ceZPkWphLM/edit?usp=sharing

    @wellme – a few challenges back Ciren2 was doing a fast day and wrote down all the others in the group also doing a fast day so she didn’t feel she was on her own. Others thought it a great idea and also started writing the names down and keeping them in their pockets – hence pocket fasters. A collective name of all who are doing fast days together for added support to get you through the day.

    2nd Post

    @coda – I have the same problem – I think it happens either from the belt buckle if I wear one or from the button at the top of my jeans, or the thicker waistband of some trousers rub on the material – I have ruined some lovely tops that way too a real pain!!!! I try to wear a thin spaghetti strap vest under my nice tops now and the problem has disappeared. It did not happen when I wore a flat front trousers with the zip as a side fastening.

    @bert1802 – it sounds like your mum’s behaviour is definitely due to the oxygen deprivation and you cannot force her to use the oxygen nasal specs – it is such a difficult situation and all you and your family can do is pick up the pieces and support each other – HUGS

    @wellme – Pocketeers (pocket fasters) has come to refer to a group of people on the forum who are fasting that day – the idea is to realise that you have support if you feel yourself sliding away from your intention to have a FD – initially it was used for a small group who might be doing a special fast e.g. Water only FD or B2B or more FDs in a row. Anyone can start the list if they are fasting on any given day – Hope that explains it x

    @wellme and @johnnyr – I was stuck on a plateau for a few months prior to joining this forum – then I started doing the odd B2B FD and eating on 16:8 NFD (only 2 meals a day)…..etc. Basically trying to mix things up a bit and I found that my weight started to drop again – The other thing is have you reviewed your TDEE as you have lost weight – unfortunately the less you weigh the less you actually need to eat to meet your TDEE! – Good luck on your journey

    A few have asked for the link to the spreadsheet that @pissupoosa has posted – it’s on page 19 about 3/4 of the way down the page but here it is:-
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SLq0JjjWe8jvsiubsJSS8owJ-qYfGYtY1ceZPkWphLM/edit?usp=sharing

    Still feeling full from my brunch this morning – this may turn out into another FD of 800cals but will confirm for @pissupoosa records

    Stay strong all the fasters today and a mindful eating day for the NFD

    Day 11 — Albuquerque, NM — FD

    @flourbaby, thanks for the Magnesium oil tip! I went to the local co-op and found some prepared ‘Magnesium chloride brine from the ancient Zechstein seabed of the Netherlands.’ 🙂 The woman there told me it’s used as a general muscle relaxer and she puts it on her feet and calves to manage pain from her plantar fasciitis. Anyway, I bought some of that and also homeopathic remedy pleasantly called ‘Quietude.’ That and some serious exercise and I was asleep all night long. Success!

    Sending out energy and light to everyone fasting today….let’s go!

    @wellme pocket fasters are the people who are fasting the day of the post.

    Still trying to find the spreadsheet,HELP!!!

    @basyjames You asked for help regarding how to easily locate this thread. This is one of the most active threads on the forum, so you can usually find it on the front page under ‘Recent posts’ (you probably need to scroll down a little). Another solution is your browser’s web page suggestions (if you have those on) – if you visit the thread often enough, it should be on top of your suggestions when you type, say, ‘may’ or even just ‘th’ (short for thefastdiet – I have it as my third option at the moment) in the address field of your browser.
    AT also just posted the link to the spreadsheet (the Google Docs one) two posts above you.

    @coda I’ve gotten those mysterious holes on some of my (usually cotton jersey) tops as well, and like @slogan15 suggested, my bet is also on the washing machine. Haven’t found any new holes after moving last fall (leaving the old washing machine behind).

    @basyjames lol it has been posted about 3 or 4 times since you asked – look at the posts above and follow the links provided.

    @chumi – so why only some tops and not others and why in and around the one place? Investigation continuing lol

    @coda Very odd. I’ve noticed I have gotten holes mostly on tops that have in comparison the longest hems. I would assume it’s because longer hems are more likely to get caught in the machine. The locations of the holes on my tops are not consistent (other than being located near the hem) like yours, though – some are in the back, others in the front. Could it just be a coincidence in your case? If you think it’s unlikely that the holes are caused by the machine, I think monitoring your behavior (as you’ve done until now) and looking for behavior patterns that are likely to cause the damage is the best idea.

    Day 11 – SW WA USA – FD 800

    Just got bumped off the internet. Will try again. We’re really having downpours today after 5 glorious days of sunshine!

    @fatrabbit – good for you still making great progress. I’m glad your son has lost a good amount so far. Hopefully that’ll encourage him to keep going.

    @bigviking – What a great weight loss!

    @fivetwofan5252 – 800 cal in 16:8 is a great plan. It just means that you’ll be doing your eating in an 8 hour time window. That is what I’m doing today as well.

    @at thank you for you inspirational quotes. I jotted down the Socrates one as well today.

    I would add myself to the pocketeers but can’t seem to swing doing it on the iPad.

    This might be the best and most supportive group I have ever been a part of. You guys are great. Thank you so much for sending me the link. Thank you so much @pissupoosa for creating such a detailed spreadsheet, just wow!
    I hope everyone has a good day today. Blessings and happy fd or nfd as appropriate.

    Day 11 | Alaska | FD

    Was thrilled when I stepped on the scale today and I didn’t have a gain. I really thought I would since I ate off plan at the potluck yesterday. I was pretty controlled in my portions but still indulged with sugar and carbs which I typically avoid on my LCHF WOL. Just the motivation I needed to get me through my fast today. I’ve decided to only eat OMAD and enjoy my 500 calories at dinner. Went to yoga this morning and drinking lots of water.

    Add me to the pocketeers 🙂

    Day 11 2nd post 🌈

    Must just say today is going well, I find once I start and hit my goals, i.e. Plan food, ✅ eat what is planned ✅ drink water, first bottle ✅ on the second now, exercise gym and a cycle class done ✅ once I’m being “good” I tend to continue, with me the hardest part is starting, making that commitment to that day!

    Catching up on posts tonight so that will keep me busy. Keep going my Fast friends xxx 👊🏻👫👬👭

    11–MA, USA–NFD

    @coda re the clothes. I have a friend who is a fabric designer for one of the large retailers in the U.K. We were talking about this a couple of years ago and she told me that when manufacturers are cutting fabric to be made into clothes they stretch it, not only to keep it flat and true but also to get the maximum number of pieces from the material. Some will over stretch it to get the most they can. This can damage the fabric and cause the threads to weaken, so when we start to wear them and put them through the normal day to day such as washing and drying etc those weak threads can give way – leading to holes. Apparently jersey fabrcs are the worst as they can easily be overstretched. I never thought that I would ever use that pice of information again in my life! I hope it’s true as it made sense to me at the time.

    3rd post 🌈

    Replying to @basyjames, might be a bit late but just reading through the posts, to find the thread, I go to my profile, my replies, and then you can see all your replies, then just click on the header of the reply and it will take u to the link i.e. May 2017 31 Day Challenge.

    This is also where you find your favourites too.

    This is also good as you can review all your posts sort of like a diary. I also use it to check that I haven’t missed a day posting.

    @wellme – another simple reason for not showing much loss at times is that food is “in transit”. If you’re mindful today, tomorrow might still show further loss from your FD. Someone else said it on another challenge. Thought it was worth mentioning it.

    @lola907 – whats OMAD?

    Day 11, 2nd post

    For all those struggling with sleep……….I’m not sure how, when or even if it may be available worldwide………… but Dr. M is just about to present a programme on BBC1 – 9pm – ‘The Truth About Sleep’

    @annemarilyn I do love a puzzle………..OMAD = one meal a day, I guess!

    2nd post
    Okeydockey, I wish I had found a way of eating in a balanced way. After that cake, I had a couple of monents of weakness (sunny day in the park with baby so I could have an ice cream, or one of those lindor chocolate after dinner with my husband), but TODAY I managed to resist. And this makes me happier than having a good fast day.

    Pissupoosa, thanks for the spreadsheet and for your efforts of gathering all the info for such a big group! Btw, my goal is to be 57.9 by end of May. No so easy for me – I go up and down like a swing!

    Will try to skip breakfast tomorrow but only because I’m meeting a friend (and her baby) at 11.30 for coffee (and cake…)

    Day 11– Colorado USA– NFD

    Wow! Cannot keep up with this high flying thread! I’ve got 4 pages to try & read up on.
    Saw Bert is back! Welcome home!

    I’m off work for 5 days because I had a contaminated sharps cut exposure to my hand in the OR. Waiting for my lab tests to come back. Praying everything is clear! This danger unfortunately is just part of my job.

    Wish me luck that I receive the all-clear, healthy report on Monday!

    Day 12 / UK / NFD

    @okeydokey Thanks for picking this up! Actually everybody’s been pretty supportive… in a way that’s my problem: this week I have been getting “God, you look FAbulous” A LOT. And my brain goes “hey, wait, what, I already look fabulous? CELEBRATION!” when I need to remind myself that I am not yet where I want to be. I hope having figured out what throws me off the bandwagon is the first step to holding on to and staying on it in the future!

    About today? I’ve had a lot of food. I’ll leave it at that.

    @happymargo fingers crossed!

    @saffy420 thank you, very interesting all clothes that have been damaged have been stretchy material. But why in the same area, why not round the back or under arms where they would be stretched? I’m going to look at the damaged clothes and compare holes.

    @basyjames i book mark the challenge when it begins on both my phone and work computer and then I just have to go to the latest page. Or you can usually find this challenge in ‘latest posts’

    Those that have tried the magnesium oil on their feet – do you feel your feet quite warm? Mine do but my OH who is also trying it doesn’t have same feeling but so far his restless legs have been at peace 2 nights in a row!

    Day 11 | NFD |UK

    Not so great decisions food wise.. aiming for a FD Friday xx

    @skinnylove I can relate to that! When my OH had said in the past how he can see a difference or im looking good etc I seem to take my foot of the pedal completely. I have told him not to say anything, lol feel for him, he can’t win! Complacency can rear it’s head about now. We start the challenge full of enthusiasm, we keep on track and then we feel we have done well, we allow a few treats to sneak in or don’t keep track as well as we did. Then come towards the end of the month we are not where we thought we should be and we start a last ditch effort to regain some of the lost ground. It’s keeping the focus on the bigger picture. For me this month has been remembering the million dollar question. So far its working!

    Day 11, USA, Missouri Ozark, NFD

    Today’s weight 142.4, below goal weight of 145.

    Had a fun day out with friends, ate a bunch of yummy food – Aldi’s (LOVE Aldi’s) had eggs for 49 cents a dozen – we’re having egg salad sandwiches and soup for dinner. haha….

    Off to the exercise room and to try and catch up on my water intake.

    Will have to try and catch up on the posts that I missed today.

    Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday (big time, it’s Mother’s Day! ) will be NFDs as well if I don’t get to check in – we are having some more severe storms so I might not be able to get on too often.

    Take care all…..

    London | Day 11 | FD turned to NFD

    Woke up with a stinking cold! Bunged up and a crazy itchy throat. So only managed to fast until lunch time. I was feeling more and more ill as the day wore on.

    Thank you all for the lovely compliments on the spreadsheet 🙂
    I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to such things (except that I may have made a few errors along the way, with FDs and NFDs getting mixed up – sorry about that…) If any of you want make any corrections, please do (the settings should allow that?). I’ll finish the rest of the updating over the weekend.
    I don’ feel any pressure doing the spreadsheet at all – I enjoy it and have learnt a lot about all of you. Every time I’ve recorded even the little’est loss for anyone, it’s made me feel excited and happy for them 🙂

    Time for bed. I’ve just taken some paracetamol to help me sleep. Will catch up again tomorrow. Thanks again for all the lovely comments. Good night all xx

    Day 12 NFD Country West Australia 72 kgs ( up 500 gms).

    Ate ‘normally’ yesterday as in less than before 5:2 but what I would think are normal portions – and 1000 calories over TDEE.
    Whoops!! Not helped by 1 slice of bread and a few Celebration chocolates.
    Back to the drawing board.
    Was going to make today a FD but at breakfast ( often only meal I get to eat with DH due to work), 1.5 serves of fruit, a small hot cross bun ( last packet!! DH loves them so I buy lots and freeze) 2 cups tea and at 493 calories already.
    Will very optimistically try for 800 calories but out to lunch and dinner.
    @lynz well done!
    @pissupoosa, commisserations on the cold. Hope you feel better soon. Thanks for all your work on the spreadsheet.
    Have a good weekend all.

    2nd post

    I’ve done fairly well on this fast day. Getting off work in an hour and cannot wait to get home and break my fast. I’ll have dinner finished up by 5:30 and then it’s smooth sailing. Looking forward to the weekend and being free from this fast. Really happy with the results I’ve had in the past 11 days. Feeling hopeful that I’ve found the thing that is going to work and be sustainable.

    @annemarilyn OMAD = One Meal A Day

    @at — thank you for understanding. Working in health care can be taxing. Very long, exhausting hours. We take care of others over ourselves sometimes.

    My OH would love it if I learned to say NO to my boss more often. I’m currently trying to change my schedule to fewer hours so I can concentrate more on myself and family. Then have the option to pick up Per Diem shifts during busy season for extra money. I hope that pans out!

    @keetseel — I definitely have issues with insomnia. But even as an RN, prefer natural methods to drugs. First, do all you can to fix your sleep hygiene. Then try something natural like melatonin. If needed, ramp up to Benadryl or Unisom. Save prescription mess like ambien as a last resort.
    And take any of these sporadically so as no to build a dependency or tolerance.
    Best of luck! And happy dreams!!

    Day 12/NFD/Melbourne Australia

    Day 11-Montreal- FD
    Day 12- “. “. – NFD

    Day 12 – UAE – nNFD ( 81.3kg)
    Weigh-in today, lost 0.3kg after b4b this week. Closer to my target for the month, 0.3kg to goooo. Looking forward to next week fasting 🤗

    Day 12 | FD | London

    Nearly the weekend ! Good day all.

    Day 12 UK NFD

    Well yesterday didn’t go to plan, I had yet another cheese incident. This time an entire carton of cottage cheese somehow found its way down my throat after I had already eaten my planned meal. So closer to 1200 than 800. But I still lost weight! 185.2 lbs, 84kg this morning. I think only eating veg and cheese is working really well especially with the short eating window. All in 2 hours yesterday. Processed carbs really are the enemy, they are unnecessary stodge that muck up our appetites and pile on the pounds. Now that I am weaned off them the weight is just dropping away, even when I am much less than perfect in executing the plan. When I consider all the mistakes I have made in the last week – a box of chocs and 3 whole packets/cartons of cheese and look at the weight loss anyway! I think my setpoint must have shifted. It seems to have the same momentum downwards that my gaining had in the past when I was eating pasta and bread constantly. It is so not just about the number of calories! What and when really do make more of a difference.
