  • Day 9 UK NFD Aiming to keep busy to keep my mind off food . Had a bit of a wobble yesterday afternoon when I felt I needed to eat ( I know it’s in the mind but grrrrrr) but kept it light and compensated at dinner so not a 500 but at just over 600 I’m still counting it as a successful FD

@onahealthyhigh – with you in the wine & beer ! I’m trying to drink slower and eek those drinks out but 40 years of bad habits can’t be reversed quickly

@debster251 well done on the trousers

    Day 9 Notts UK NFD

Lunch with my sister today so not expecting to be under 800 cals.

    Onwards and downwards everyone.

    DAY9 – UK – NFD

    Day 9 – UK – NFD

Another gloomy cloudy day here. Feeling very down today – can only get better, right?

    London | Day 9 | FD

Wrote a whole big long catch-up post last night on my laptop but forgot to post it (too busy updating the spreadsheet!) – Doh!
So in summary, Day 7-NFD and after the stressful weekend I had Day 8 was meant to be FD but only managed until lunch time (so also NFD)
Today I’m determined to get through the FD and complete it. Got started on water first thing this morning. I have a big bottle of sparkling water, couple of OXO cubes and sugar-free gum to help me get through the day.

Slowly catching up on the spreadsheet. I’ll post the link here soon. We’re up to 112 fasters now – amazing! I’ve certainly got my work cut out for me 😀

Catch you all later. All the best with your FDs and NFDs xx

    Day 9 | Northumberland, UK | FD

I managed a 500cal fast yesterday, despite feeling more hungry than normal, and despite the kids still having lots of half eaten Easter eggs around the place – go me. Also managed to avoid carbs pretty much and feeling much better for it today, with the bloated feeling of the weekend gone.

Going to try another FD as Tuesday is usually the best day of the week for me to fast, but might have to let it creep up to 800cal and do another 800cal day on Thursday, will see how it goes.

    Day 9 – NFD

@pissupoosa – thanks for organising us all, a great group of supporters! Good luck for your FD. Never thought of having Oxo as a hot drink, top tips appreciated 😊

Day 9, London, UK, FD (Yay!!!!)

This weekend has been the hardest since starting this WOL Nov 1st ’16, excluding family celebrations, Xmas, Easter, my B’day etc. As I only work Tue-Thurs, I find fasting on these days very easy, so B2Bs or even B2B2Bs have been ok, however, that then leads to my 4 day weekend where I should be controlled and mindful ……………………I’m not sure who I’m trying to fool, ‘cause I KNOW If I could eat mindfully for that length of time I wouldn’t have needed to turn to 5:2 in the 1st place!!!!! I’ve started to allow treats to creep back into the house, and temptation sometimes proves too much, I KNOW that sometimes I’ll have NO self-control so if it isn’t in the house I can’t self-sabotage…………………… I can really talk the talk, then stumble when I try to walk the walk!!!!!

Having re-read my previous posts, here’s my entry from Day 20 of the Feb challenge,…………..……..

“Aiming for a liquid fast to counteract a weekend akin to ‘feeding time at the zoo’!!! I didn’t just fall of the wagon, I positively hurled myself off…….. can you say ‘self sabotage’……….. Glad to be back on track, I NEED this FD!!”……………………….Deja vu anybody????????

My learning curve isn’t even curved!!!!!!!

So I’m going for 4:3 combined with 16:8 with (max) 2 day B2Bs, where necessary. I know 5:2 worked fantastically for me initially and for the 1st couple of months, but shaking things up a bit and not getting set in a routine, seems to help topple me off any plateaus………. (my body’s not a clever as she thinks!!!)

Just saw your post @allie123………………………. ‘- Red wine (75ml)’ …………………………..thinking, if it were me, there would need to be a big fat ZERO after the 75!!!!!! It’s been a BAAAAAD weekend!!!!, let’s not mention it again………..ever!!

Good luck everyone, so glad to be able to share without the disapproving looks, just knowing you won’t judge means I can admit to self-sabotage without guilt, but knowing I ‘must do better’ because I’m accountable with so many of you holding my hand or keeping me in your pockets!!!

Onward and downward and still keeping the faith xx

    Hi @onahealthyhigh

I saw a post earlier on this page from @lindasue, and I think someone else referred to the poor ranking of 5:2 elsewhere.

    http://health.usnews.com/best-diet

Interesting the dieting strategies that rank above 5:2😀

    Day 9 – UK – NFD

@ FlourBaby – we learn from our mistakes, the important thing is not to give up, as long as you keep coming back, your winning. I am the queen of starting over so I know how you feel, lets hope this time we figure it out !

    Have a great day everyone.

    Day9, Germany, FD
    Day 8, FD

I am getting very lazy these days in doing my regular exercise 🙁 Today is my second day of b2b. Hope I eat less than yesterday!

@pissupoosa haha it always happens for me, because of forgetting or technical problems

    Day 9 NFD NZ

    Day 9– Colorado USA– FD

Picking up lots of extra work hours this week. Not my favorite thing, but glad to be a team player & helpful. Hope the bosses appreciate it!

Today I’m planning on just having homemade Kefir & soup. Two of my favorite things! That should keep me below 500 calories. I hope.

    Day 9 – CARDIFF UK – NFD

    Starting Weight : 159.0lbs
    Today’s Weight : 158.4lbs
    Target Weight : 154.0lbs

Good controlled day yesterday with an unexpected bonus of 1lb loss this morning – always good for the motivation. Hoping for a similar day again today.

@flourbaby your post this morning made me laugh. So much honesty and love the humour. My favourite was ‘My learning curve isn’t even curved!!!!!!!’. Definitely no disapproving looks, sharing your stumbles helps give me resolve when I falter.

@edzeko — agreed. I recall clearly when skipping a meal & getting hungry felt excruciating,

I was definitely a sugar-burner then. My bag or backpack, locker, car glove box & desk at work all had snacks stashed in them… “just in case” I was late to a meal. Something to tide me over.

Then I found 5:2 intermittent fasting & LCHF. It’s taken me years of weaning, but I’ve cut out sugar (except for special occasions like my birthday & Christmas.) What a difference! Hunger no longer causes headaches & shaky hands & mood swings. Those are thankfully all gone!! Such relief.

@lindasue — def glad we have our “meetings” here to keep us on track!

    Day 9 – UK – FD

    Weigh-in tomorrow!

    Day 9, Germany, NFD

    Day 9, Belfast, NFD

My FD went well yesterday – I usually have a Slim-a-Soup at lunchtime but I’d ran out. However, I felt ok without that ‘safety net’. Had a brilliant yoga class at 6pm (lots of shoulder stands and back bends) and didn’t get eating dinner (lovely prawn stir fry) until 9.30pm. Happy days, the day was nearly done!

@pashaw good luck with the GCSE season. My nephews are just starting too, and my step-son did his a few years ago. It’s such a full-on time for them, but they just have to get their heads down 🙂 ‘Little and often’ was my study advice to them, just chip away at the revision. Best of luck!

    Good luck all FDers today!

    Day 9 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

Busy day yesterday with Silver Sneakers exercise class, pedicure (going to San Diego for the funeral and will wear sandals), then some yard work. I did manage to eat 3 meals trying to use up some leftovers before I leave for 4 days, but weight holding its own. Today will be 16:8 because of going to lunch with eldest daughter who cannot make it to her uncle’s funeral. She lives 2 hours away from here, so we don’t see each other all that often.

I do enjoy times of fasting, even if it is 16 hours of a day, as it saves me from having to worry about what to eat for a meal! And even snacks are easier to find as the ones I find acceptable are few (string cheese is a great one for some protein and flavor). Diamond makes Nut Thins http://store.bluediamond.com/Nut-Thins-_c_5.html that have been recommended by a local healthy person as about the only cracker/crisp she finds good. They do seem to satisfy any potato chip craving I might get.

Must run – will try to read posts soon. Onward and downward!

    Day 9 UK FD

Going for another FD today as feel quite motivated. Have some soup made purely with butternut squash, red onion and ginger , but won’t eat till later. So should be well under 500 calories for the day.
Been out for a walk in the lovely sunshine here and just have to stay out of the kitchen for the rest of the afternoon. !
@flourbaby… I think we can all identify with your post at some point in the past! That’s why we’re here supporting each other… we’re all holding your hand as you jump back on that wagon!!

Day 9 Chicago, Illinois USA – NFD

@pissupoosa might have missed it, but what is the link to the spreadsheet?

    Day 9 USA NFD

    Day 9 Tas Australia NFD

Today started off well in that I continued with my 16:8 on nfd’s. So had my first meal of the day at 12. That was probably the only thing that went to plan, and I has boiled eggs and smoked salmon which was delicious and healthy and stayed away from the bread so that was good.
Stepped on the scales this morning after my b2b and found myself 400gms heavier than after my last b2b last week! Not really happy about that! Have been doing more exercises again after a break because of back issues, so great to feel my muscles sore again from use, so kinda hoping some of that is from the exercise and hopefully muscle gain!
The day has been unrelenting, OH is away and after running kids everywhere and all the normal dinner and craziness and trying to get kids to do anything because they are totally feral tonight! So now it’s 2 1/2 hours past lights out and my gorgeous children are finally quiet, probably just the last 5 to 10 minutes! Hopefully they are asleep but I’m not checking yet incase they aren’t and I get sucked back into the madness! ! 😂 ha! Needless to say I have completely gone off the plan today after my good breakfast. I don’t even want to put them into my fitness pal, that’s not happening today! But I’ve got everything ready to make a lovely soup tomorrow and I’m back to a fd tomorrow!! Everyday doesn’t always work out how you plan but it’s not over, just another day on my way to my goal. Just keep going!! Looking forward to sleeping tonight!!

I’ll start a pocketeers list for tomorrow if anyone wants to join just copy and paste and add your name. I’m going to need all the help and support I can get tomorrow after today’s craziness!

    @lou-belles

    Day 9, London UK, FD

Second day of B2B. Feeling so hungry even though I had porridge for breakfast and an apple just now. There’s a packet of crisps on my desk which is just saying ‘eat me’. I’m putting it in a drawer now. Just an orange on my desk now, waiting until after my lunchtime walk (hopefully 45 mins today). Right, I’m going for that walk now, let’s hope it doesn’t rain.

Day 9, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Hello all, bright sunny day here. My husband is working the fence lines today (and all you country folk know what that means.)

Today’s weight 143.8, below goal weight of 145.

Everything went as planned yesterday, even managed a nice stroll in the sunshine at lunch. I am blessed to work within a block of a beautiful city park with a stream running through it, a lovely gazebo, pretty azaleas in bloom – it was very relaxing. Plan to do the same today.

back2thefuture, I found the articles very interesting as well and was not surprised that fasting gets such a bad rap. People think days of deprivation and sacrifice when they hear the term fast. Actually, people used to fast a lot more just in their daily lives before the need to constantly have a huge Slurpee with them at all times accompanied by a couple of hotdogs or whatever the convenience store had that looked good at that moment.

I heard a car dealer say that they couldn’t sell a new car today without big cup holders for each passenger. I was watching a young mother at church with a toddler, during the hour service she gave him a sippy cup of milk, one of juice, a package of Honeygraham bears and a package of goldfish to eat along with a baggie of Cheerios to throw around. haha… I doubt the child was evn thirsty or hungry but he is certainly being set up for a life of “I feel like I should be eating or drinking something right now”…

I think of all the diet plans mentioned, my family is most in line with the Mediterranean lifestyle (but not too much wine).

Wishing all a happy, sunny day !

    Day9- USA- NFD

LouBelles, kids are totally feral. I love it ! Made me laugh indeed.

Song Bird Me, sending thoughts of serenity to you and your loved ones today.

    Day 9 – Cumbria UK – FD – 800cals

Another gorgeous sunny day – been very spoilt with the weather so making the most of it – went for a walk with my usual walking group then had a flat white afterwards and caught up with the runners…….

FD yesterday went well, under 300cals consumed in the way of a latte and a drink of Kefir before bed – Still not broken my fast as yet, not feeling particularly hungry atm but will definitely be having some dinner tonight but aiming for under 800cals for the day – part of my plan to have a very controlled week before I head down south for a visit to old friends as it will definitely involve too much drinking and food……..😈

@erika45 – you can do it – this was me last year and I still find it hard to believe that not only did I get into the 50’s but ended maintaining around 54/55kg (I’m 5’4″)
@happymargo – glad to hear that the homemade Kefir is going well – I love the taste of mine, sometimes I second ferment it with fruit and drink some every day
@songbirdme – my thoughts are with you for your brother’s funeral this week – safe travels to San Diego, California on Wednesday
@dunk – when you are fasting and feel tempted just think of the group of Pocketeers across the globe who are holding on to you with their support – it does help!
    @annemarilyn – 🤗
@lindasue – totally agree with your sentiments – without the support of this forum I would not have got over the plateau I was stuck on for 3 months or so before I found the November Challenge – the support and advice here got me to and has kept me at my maintenance weight – daily signing in and weekly weights for me ☺️
    @allie123 – well done on your 4lbs loss in a week 💃
@chumi – the loss of a close one is always hard no matter what age they are – cherish all the lovely memories you have of her and especially your times with her – HUGS
@pashaw – you and your OH remain in my thoughts and I’m sure that i”m not the only one on here that send you their positive vibes to give you strength xx
@10se – that is the beauty of this WOL a bad day does not a bad week make – stay positive!
@skinnylove and @lola907 – it seems that there are a few of us on here that find Yoga of great benefit in our lives!
    @lilymartin – LOL – I’m on this WOL because I never met a calorie I didn’t like!! 🤣
@Deliska – I too follow 16:8 WOE whether I’m on a FD or not, although on FD if I’m eating I keep most of my 500cal for my evening meal apart from a dash of skimmed milk in tea during the day – it works for me – good luck with your journey

Pocket winos is growing 🥂🍷🍺☕️- @debster251 @flourbaby you can join our Pocket Winos group……. @onahealthyhigh @brightonbelle @songbirdme @at and @bert1802 (honorary member – coffee drinker but not alcohol!) 😇

“SHE (HE) BELIEVED SHE (HE) COULD SO SHE (HE) DID”

    Day 9 – USA – NFD

    Day 8-Albuquerque, NM-FD

@dellska and @annemarilyn, I’m also trying to to do a 16:8 today–well, depending on how long I can hold out, maybe even an 19:5. Just downloaded and read Bert Herring’s “Fast-5” book and it might be a good option for certain days, although it’s meant to be done every day (he says it’s actually easier to fast every day).

He also says that any bite of food, even cream in your coffee, can start up your insulin and inhibit fat burning. Well, I can’t give up my morning coffee with milk. Just can’t. I’ll just have to trust that the 50 calories or so worth of dairy won’t throw me off the rails. It doesn’t seem like it should.

Good luck all you fasters! We’re stronger together!

    Day 9 – NFD – Toronto

So yesterday’s FD *almost* went well. I was so busy at work that I only left the office at 8:30 p.m. at which time I had only had a cup of coffee with a splash of cream. I was feeling a bit foggy/weak though so decided I should eat a bit of the egg curry I made on the weekend before bed. Well, I ended up making a proper meal of it because it was so DANG delicious (if I do say so myself :p) and went from a FD of 50 calories to an FD of 550 calories – booooo! In hindsight, especially since my weight has crept up after the indulgent weekend, I should have been disciplined enough to have just a fried egg or some other small, satiating protein before bed. New rule – avoid fan-flippin-tastic-delicious food (even if healthy) on an FD.

Taking my MIL out for an early mother’s day dinner tonight as she is out of town on mother’s day this year. Hope the rest of you have a wonderful day!

    Day 9 – Scotland – NFD
I’ve already eaten a chocolate cookie mid- morning (I took the kids to a play date at a friend’s house), a small ice cream (lovely day today so we had a picnic and ice cream in the park for lunch) AND we have a friend coming here for dinner, who may bring a desert. The important thing is not to feel guilty otherwise I’ll start a proper binge. The tooth of my baby is out (only 19 to go now… 😳) and last night we slept much better after a terrible week.
I look forward to another fast day tomorrow!

    @fatrabbit.
60lbs that’s a fantastic loss well done you.
Feeling more like away of life than a diet to me already. It might sound sad but I enjoy the fast days I can’t even say I feel hungry on them now.
My last three FD I’ve only had my 600 calories around 7pm after exercise.
Sun has come out to play 😁
    22°

    Day 9 Maine NFD

Haven’t had time to read posts – will catch up tonight. Wishing all a successful productive day! Trying to be mindful as well as successful – was mindful last night, but not too successful. “Bowling” as in scorpion bowling not the best way to begin a sucessful nite!

    Day 9 UK NFD
Not too bad if you don’t count the yum yums. Have invested in a soup maker, very excited about that just need a good low calorie recipe.
Good luck to you all for the remainder of the day.

    Day 9 – MT USA – NFD

Yesterday was ROUGH (so hungry!), but I made it through. However, the scale is up a bit this week. I’m blaming Sunday – up at 5:30 AM to take in a round of golf, giant lunch with cocktails, then flying/airports for 6 hours. Exercise + alcohol + travel = temporary bloat. So, I’m confident that after my second fast day, I’ll be back on track – fingers crossed!

Day 9 – Wisconsin, USA NFD

@happymargo Yes! Exactly. I love hearing that others are having the same experience. It is science, really.

I do not weigh myself anymore, as just in the last year I realized my highest priority was good health over hitting a specific number on the scale. I figured pursuing good health was an obvious path to being fit and healthy, therefore, my obsessive weigh ins were not necessary. And, now that I have broken the habit, I see that my weigh ins were detracting from my positive mindset. This is my story, and I do not begrudge ANYONE from weighing in; I know weighing in super helpful to most people.

What I can say is that as I dressed this morning, I saw lat and shoulder muscles that may be showing themselves a bit more. It’s hard to say. Just caught a glance, but it made me happy to see a body that looked strong and healthy that belonged to me.

We have a pull up bar in our kitchen. I aim to get three days of strength exercises a week, in addition to walking every day. On days I don’t find the time to do an official strength routine, I will try to 10 pull ups at a time, as often as I can. I don’t think I’ve done more than 50 in a day. I literally squeeze them in between putting my lunch together, and brushing my teeth before work. I’m in heels and work clothes most of the time. These are pull ups from a standing position, with bent arms…btw. Not the real deal. 🙂

At any rate, I have tried hard to build exercise into my day, even if it looks a little unconventional. I often close my office door and will crank out some push ups or squats. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. 🙂

Day 9 Lancaster, PA US FD

So many more posts I want to read😊 I’m looking forward to reading them later today!😊😀✨
@scs I’m curious what is scorpion bowling?
@steve-toon-taxi-driver I don’t think your sad. I enjoy the FD’s also… call me a weirdo.🤣 I haven’t been feeling hungry yesterday or today, so far. I feel better and I like not having to worry about whether I might have gotten the food amounts wrong in order to lose weight.😊
@keetseel I’m glad you read the weed killer recipe a second time also. Keeping you healthy is important.✨Thanks for the info; Bert Herring’s “Fast-5” sounds interesting, I’m going to look for it online.
@flourbaby sending hugs 🤗 for you! Trying all these months has definitely been a benefit. What if I or you hadn’t started the 5:2 at all? We are better off for trying! We are strengthening our self control muscle.😊 I’m very glad, I met you in our group.😊
@pissupoosa Wishing you well on your FD today. Also, Thank-you for your work on the spreadsheet. You are an 😇 angel to do it!
    @10se ✨✨Good Luck!✨✨

    Day 9 Hampshire UK NFD

    Hi all

Sorry for long hiatus in posting.

Have been too busy with work to log in, BUT I did an unscheduled FD on Sunday.

I was planning to do a FD yesterday or today, but ended up having to go to London to see clients and eat and drink!

So I did a FD on Sunday which I can highly recommend actually!

I was out all day so didn’t really think about being hungry so it was great.

I plan to fit in two more FDs this week which may be tricky!

Please can someone tell me what the pocket winos group is? I’ve tried searching for it, but wasn’t able to find the beginning of the thread…

    Day 8 : Cheshire, UK : NFD
    Day 9 : Cheshire, UK : NFD

Gosh, I’m really struggling not to binge. Today was supposed to be a FD and I did well right until 20 mins ago. I’ve just had water and herbal tea until then, almost 2 litres (which is really good at this time of day) but thought I a tuna salad would see me through until tomorrow. Went to the supermarket to get tuna but just couldn’t resist the crisps (chips) on offer and the sweets on offer. So as I write this I’ve already eaten the 150g of crisps and have started on the sweets/chocs.

I’m not giving up but I am now worried that I won’t be able to stop. The thought did come into my head, ‘you can have them tomorrow’ but I ignored it and just thought ‘I’ll try again tomorrow’.

    Pure sabotage.

I’m an all or nothing person too which is very challenging.

I’m reading all posts so I’m hoping something will click for me as it has done in the past.

    xoxo

Hello day 9 fd UK Co Down (11.7 or 161 lbs Thinks I’ve been here before)!

Going well far – quick check in as I am in a bit of a panic about my Maths – why did I do this again??

@pissupoosa – would it help if you didn’t have to log everyone’s fast day or nfd in and maybe just checked people in to keep accountability? We are all big people and surely we can keep a track on our own fd’s or nfd’s? This was the way it first started – I kept a roll book type spread sheet so I could record who signed up but more importantly who completed the challenge. We can have a start weight and end weight to keep it simple. I don’t want anyone stressing over it especially when life is busy. Really thinking ahead for July when I volunteered again as I know I will not be able to keep a spread sheet as detailed as the recent ones – sorry to disappoint but just letting you all know in advance lol. I know what it’s like trying to read posts if you miss a day without having to note all the details. Just putting it out there!

    Day 9 – SW WA USA – FD 800

So enjoying another sunny day and wearing an outfit that hasn’t fit for about 2 years. Getting compliments too.

@Deliska – I usually do 16:8 most days whether FDs or NFDs. I find it’s easier to control my eating that way. Last weekend I didn’t adhere to the 16:8 and began eating earlier in the day. I consumed much more food than I usually do. As others have commented, breakfast many of us only ate because we were told it was the most important meal of the day or because some fitness folks said to eat within 30 minutes of getting up. I really am not hungry first thing in the morning. If I feel like breakfast food, I can have it later in the day.

@songbirdme – I agree that the Nut thins are great. They satisfy the crunch factor.
Blessings as you go celebrate your brother’s life. Sending cyber hugs & prayers.

@Chitown Galk – Pissupoosa posted that she’d be posting a link soon for the spreadsheet; no link at the moment.

@edzeko – I admire your determination to get fit!

I love reading through the posts. We’re all very real people on this journey. Together we are stronger!

    Day 10 NFD/Melbourne Australia

Aiming for a controlled 16:8. Unexpected grandparenting duties. Have a great day everyone.

    Day 9 – UAE – FD (2nd of b4b)

Day 9, MA, USA–NFD. I’ve decided to go for ADF this week. Yesterday’s fast day was a little rough, and I woke up very hungry today. I’ve been making healthy choices so far, and hope to get in a good workout tonight, and also need to take some time to catch up on posts! Hope everyone’s day is going well!

@taraga, I’m interested in hearing how your 4-day fast goes. Is it your first?

    Day 9 | NFD | UK

Probably went over on sweet treats today at work
    Looking forward to tomorrow’s FD
    Mind over Matter…

    Day 9, Gozo, Malta, nfd

Successful fast day yesterday of 800 calories. Today I hope to have ate within my TDEE.

Have a great evening everyone. Onwards and downwards.
