Hi everybody
As always it’s lovely to read your posts – it’s such a motivation just to read a page or two of others comments – let alone the details about your daily lives – some of which make me hoot with laughter!
It’s been a while since I posted but I’m still going strong with the odd blip now and again. I’m understandably not getting the loss I did at the beginning and have been pretty static for the last two weeks so I’m thinking of upping the FD’s to three. I find them relatively easy to do, like the fact that I don’t have alcohol on those days (one of my big weaknesses)and going up to three might just do the trick. Any thoughts or tips guys??
Jinkins
Hi Jinkins, we all have our lives to live as well as removing excess weight. To me, and please this is just my opinion and later on my suggestion (which you can take or leave as you wish as it is your choice), we can have everything we want in moderation, including alcohol, but we need to choose our calories carefully including WHEN we consume them … all sugary things are, to me, wasted calories and for me this includes alcohol and soft drinks. I used to have one to two cans of coke every Sat and Sun and sometimes a few in between plus an occasional can of premix scotch and cola. Since commencing this WOL (way of life) or WOE (way of eating) I have had 3 cans of coke and no premixed over the past two months. The first one I’d been “hanging out for” for over two weeks before I gave in and let myself have one … guess what, I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. The next was with the family at my OH’s birthday. The last one was last Friday night while out with others only to be sociable as otherwise I’d just been drinking water or black coffee. I really did not enjoy it, it was not as nice as I remembered and I really don’t miss it any more. My suggestion to you is to just check how many calories per serve of alcohol and make your choices from there. You would need to use standard measures to ensure that your calorie count is correct. I made my choices based on that and have found that the first two to three weeks are the hardest but that I also need to keep a check on my own consumption of empty calories too and make an allowance for those things but not consume any for the first couple of weeks of restarting in earnest. In the end it’s your choice how you do this, we can only offer suggestions or give experiences (such as mine above) and that way you can make more informed choices of what you want to put into your body. Hugs and hope that you can work out what works best for you π
Hello Fast Trackers wow wee Purple Vegetable Eater PVE I took the liberty of running your numbers through mr google and he tells me thatβs an amazing 29ishkg weight loss gob smashingly brilliant may I ask over what time frame has this been? Bay has shed 17+kg as I understand it since early this year 2014 to me thatβs powerful and emotional evidence right there that this really is the ONLY WOL/WOE..ok enough of the Sunday Sermon π
This week I am mixing it up a notch with a Mon/Tue FD Wednesday feed the eldest lads present girlfriends π― birthday out for dinner and finish off with Thr/Fri FD and a Saturday weigh in
9 weeks in now 83.5kg I LOVE LIFE !!!
RT
Hi RT
I took exactly a year to loose 28kg and have been maintaining, with slight downward movement since April.
My OH lost 30kg in that first year and, like me, has maintained and continued to lose a kg or 2 in the 7 months since. He has reversed his diabetes, going from insulin dependent to no diabetic drugs at all and really steady low blood sugar levels (he measures every day)
We continue to fast on Mondays and Thursdays (although he is much stricter than me) and have slackened off a bit on other days, but the changes to our diet, reduced white carbs, increased veg, minimal snacking and portion size, have become permanent. We are not soft drink consumers, but have wine 5 days a week. We have homemade sourdough, one loaf lasts more than a week, and have introduced fermented foods into our diet too.
I’ve even dug out my old books from when we did the alternative lifestyle thing back in the late 70s, early 80s. Nothing is new under the sun! We just forget how good home produced foods are.
Keep up your fine work with 5:2. You have done fabulously. P π
PS Your rain is coming tomorrow, apparently. We have a predicted 42 (and humid) here today. π
Hi AO,
Here in the UK the Royal Society for Public Health has recently said that alcohol should be labelled with calorie content. The drinks industry has said it is open to suggestion, but thinks labelling with alcohol units is more important… Funny that!
I agree that if you’re serious about losing weight and then maintaining that weight loss then you do have to be aware of where you’re getting ALL your calories from, and you do have to make difficult choices.
I like alcohol, and that hasn’t changed with 5:2 (although my tolerance has as I’ve lost weight!), but now it’s mostly a weekend ‘treat’. Initially I cut it out on fast days, then Sunday – Thursday. Better for my liver, my weight and my bank balance! And now that’s just a habit, no deprivation, just life.
Good to hear from you again jinkins.
Are you able to do any of the HIIT exercises?
Or walk 10,000 steps a day?
About 6 months ago I started doing the 4:3 for two weeks a month.
It’s nearly an ADF schedule
Mon
Wed
Fri
Mon
Wed
Fri
I then do the same schedule , but not as fasting days but as calorie restriction days . I’ve found my magic # of 1,200 calories on restriction days I can sate my hunger on the weeks im not fasting. BUT. On those weeks I’m strength training and try my best to do the 7 compound lifts. To share with you . Today i was taking off my jacket and my shirt came off with it. I for first time in decades saw a different me. I don’t oggle myself , but I is first time I see more than the obesity image of myself. Now down to wearing size 36 jeans from size 46 two years ago. I’ll just keep on Keepin on though. Im On a mission to lose it all. This woe , this WOL is slowly working. It takes effort , but it’s doable compared to most other woe.
Then I tried the b2b castings on threats that myscheule fit best.
the b2b did get the scale moving , but I wasn’t a happy camper!
I know this isn’t in any book , but for feed days!
If you want to reach goal at 150lbs. Eat 1,500 calories on feed days .
Or if you to reach goal at 120lbs eat 1,200 calories.
So armed with that. You have several ways to get there .
I struggle with alcohol it’s like I’m drawn to it in a bad way. I down it as fast I can until I get sick and go back fo more til I’m passed out In the street. So. It’s out for me. I tried wine , but fell into the same alcoholism I just can’t seem to be moderate with it. I ve turned to teas as my drinks for pleasure and relaxation now.
Good morning all.
Lovely day here with all the foliage looking bright in the sunshine after yesterday’s wash – 8mm in total so 21 for the week to date. That’s the best in ages.
Jojo, hope you have a lovely break. Never been to Ireland but it’s on my bucket list. Long time since we were in Europe so Ireland then not an attractive place to visit for risk averse tourists. Was reading a big promotion in yesterday’s newspaper travel section. OH of Celtic stock, even down to his colouring of very dark hair, in earlier years at least, π combined with blue eyes.
All go here this morning with my mechanical ‘slaves’ working away – dishwasher, washing machine and robot vacuum while I read all your lovely posts. OH about to go to Landcare so will then leap into things my slaves don’t do, e.g. hang out washing, some Christmas baking and wash floors. Life is good!
Happy Sunday all and keep up the good work.
Hi again
Sorry I missed some of your posts because I only read to the end of p87.
Jinkins, good to hear from you.
SAMM your weight loss/fitness recipe is something I will try – such a sensible approach. After nearly a year on this WOL and losing 14kg, I now feel more confident about stepping up the effort and will do so seriously when I return to work next January after Christmas holidays. In the meantime I’m planning and practising parts of the routine before launching the full scale assault at both sides of the energy equation. Will keep you posted.
AO, I also eliminated empty calories as a first step. When out socialising I have sparkling mineral water. As I’ve mentioned before, not into alcohol so have always had a soft drink but now one step further. Amazing how festive the tingling bubbles feel on my tongue.
RT glad to enjoyed your trip to the ‘big smoke’ and more importantly, arrived home safely. At least you didn’t have to spend too long on the death trap Dukes Highway before branching off to Naracoorte.
Have a good day all.
It truly is a delightful day. I have finally entered my no. Fast day food onto my fitness app and as I have it on my iPad which fits into alll but my evening handbags there is no excuse not to fill it in. Was tempted to have toast with my poached eggs but stopped and considered what would
Work for me so sautΓ©ed some mushrooms. I enjoyed them and did not miss the bread at all. Will take a long walk this evening so I will be ready in mind and body for tomorrow’s fast.
Oh I have noticed that my tolerance to alcohol has changed completely. I have stopped having my two glasses of wine most nights to just Friday and Saturday but discovered on Friday that the effect was rapid. Assume a change as a result of new eating plan. It makes choices easy over Xmas although I spend
my Xmas in Clare and the wine there is great !
PVE that really is fantastic stuff unreal hey and never a better advertisement to give that demon soft drink a miss and get into the plonk π the good stuff of course not that chateau cardboard caper π―
AO yes always nice to come home or get home safely for sure you do see some very silly moves on country roads and Nicky you are spot on although from the Keith turn off to here is in my mind anyway the longest part of the trip..
Happy Sunday Friends
RT

I came with a similar name for what your describing.
I call it. Fat attack week.
But I moved to two weeks . Where I’m just doing as much as I can to lose it.
If it weren’t for the diabetes , I’m sure I would of gotten so chuffed I might of gone with full on fat assault.
But when I decided to take a step , back, heed my doctors advice, and be practical. The question I asked her was . In her opinion was the fasting responsible for my diabetes . She said absolutely not. But I needed to lose weight. Asked her for a dietian reference, but she said I was her last patient of the day and would be happy to discuss my weight loss agenda.
First she said I need to exercise.
Then gave me standard diet . With menus .
I then reworked the menus to bethefoods I was eating on. The 5:2, but that the macro nutrition ratios needed to match. For every item her menu . I would replace with the same ratio, but other foods.
It wasnt that hard , but it took a long time to wake up every morning and test each of the foods to see if I was spiking sugars , to know wether to keep in my menu.
After three months making the same appointment time in the hope that I would get to be 1on1 weight loss discussion . I got to show her my log and ask if I could reststart fasting based on my foods andd my levels.
About the only thing different is tthat I test my sugars 6 times a day especially if I’m fasting at work .
Wish it wasn’t as a bother, but life goes on and just want to keep on Keepin on.
I cant recommend what i do to anyone else. But the attitude I have is the what’s helping be safe and lose while I lose weight. The fat attack week attitude. Where I follow the plan , whole plan and nothing but the plan. I consistently lose 2-3 lbs over 12 days. And have not had a single month of plateau.
When I reflect on what motivated me to give it go!
Dr mosely being given the advice to do what is doable.
After much testing and logging . I have no guessing. About what is doable.
And while I tend to be slightly grandiose about it.
My typical fast days are simply. 300 calories of red beans at noon
And stewed catfish in chili sauce for another 300 at 5 pm.
Or flipped. To midnight and 5am
It’s not easy , but there’s no surprises . I’m not every feeling starved. I still eat the buffet once a month.
On feed days I simply log it and test regularly. No matter what winds up in front of me. My phone app tells me exactly my calories . And know when to save room for later.
Then it’s like I said in the other recent post. Two weeks of calorie restriction on The same schedule.
What I saw in the mirror today was not whom I’ve been for the last 14 years. I’m no longer shaped like a whisky barrel, round all around. Still a ways to go , but no doubt that I’ll get there.
I know what my doable is now.
Two weeks/ of adf fasting then two weeks of low carb strength training with the correct nutrition to gain muscle.
I suspected what I wa really after was not making myself more attractive. But more active. A goal I reached this past summer was get back to boxing strength. Though I don’t enjoy the boxing anymore I did step in the ring for two weeks of sparring. I reached that goal. When I bought the army jump boots and out walked a young girl from the local track team at work on day from hell where we both were mandated to work two days of double shifts. My pedometer had 64,004 steps on it. I finally realized I no longer had to prove it to myself. There nothing to stop me. There’s no reason to keep on with hope, because I’m Keepin on with my decision. Im committed to what’s doable! The scale says I’m 211 today. And I’m as chuffed as ever!
See I know there other programs out there can shred the pound insanely. I know I cando those.
But I also know. I’m an eater. Not a fighter. Not an athlete. I’m just a simple husband and father that likes to eat tasty food! And that’s hoe got to 274 lbs In the First place. I’m going to buffet tomorrow. Choosing the nutrition dense foods, avoiding the starches and the high fructose foods. Damn good fillin. Looking forward to it. Looking forward to being with my relatives as we gather after church sometimes as many as 18 of us. I still get asked if I’m losing weight? ” still fasting “? Yes I say and still skipping. And I go out in parking lot with kids . And skip next to the car if the weather is good.
It’s doable ! Eating good, skipping rope, and then fasting responsibly.
Falling asleep, sorry for not editing the run on and on sentencing .
Best wishes!
Hi Samm:
I assume you have seen these and decided that intermittent fasting will not help your type 2. But if you have not seen these, maybe they will give you a way to get rid of your disease – it has worked for many others: http://intensivedietarymanagement.com/category/lectures/type-2-diabetes-lecture-series/
Good Luck!
Hi everyone
Thank you for all your replies – particularly SAMM, jojo Happy Now and Aussie Oma – I need to think about them and decide on a plan. I’m sure I need to look closely at the calories I consume on non-fast days and that obviously means thinking about the alcohol I consume.
Meanwhile it’s a very wet and miserable Sunday here so my OH and I are off to the movies – perfect way to spend the afternoon of a FD!
Jinkins
Hiya Jenkins nice to meet you . I am a wee 72 year old from Scotland . I have RA and this WOL has made such a difference to me . I have lost almost 2 and a half stone since July . The difference to my RA and IBS is brilliant . I feel better than I have in many years .
Hello everyone else . I have been out all day a FD for me so just going to make dinner . Have a brilliant day/ night all
Wee xx
Hiya SAMM …..PVE AO . Trying to catch up with things tonight so sorry from me too .
jenkins I hope you don’t mind but I have copied and pasted fro another post . I hope this explains things about me .
I have not ruled out too much on my WOL except potatoes and sweets sugary things . I feel at my age as I donβt smoke or drink that I need to eat things I like π . I do try to keep low carb on my FD . Some days on the β normal days β when I have ice cream the carbs are pretty high but that is only now and again .
I am quite happy to dodge along like this as my WOL forever .
I just realized that I am only 8 pounds off what I got down to 5 years ago so if I loose another stone I will be lighter than I have been in about 25 years SOOOOO my friends that will do me .
I will still be well over βthe norm β as they say BUT I will be over the moon with that . Maybe 3 or 4 pounds below so I can have a few pounds to play with . I NEVER thought I was ever going to be able to say that .
Thank you all for being here BECAUSE without all of you this never would have happened
WEE xx
Wore myself out at home with skipping, hand weights , kettle ball, and stability ball.
This week I learned that it may be best not only to sleep on an empty stomach, but to exercise between the last meal of the day and bed time.
Going to work in 7 hrs. Getting some shut eye.
I will make this my last fast day before I take my planned break. As I ate at the buffet today, so I find it isn’t a complete disaster to eat at a buffet as long as I exercise , walk 10,000 steps , and fast.
Hi to all my fasting mates.
SAMM, hope you sleep well. Thanks for the information – I will ‘warm up’ with 1 fat attack week first to get into the routine then crank it up to 2 out of 4.
Even though I successfully lost weight in the past, I was pretty miserable with the thought that the foods I love would never pass my lips again. Consequently, the moment at goal …. you all know the rest of that story!
However, now I have mastered 5:2 it’s time to broaden the approach a bit more by delaying the gratification to next week, not just next non-FD.
Happy Monday fasting everyone and thanks for all your contributions.
Happy Fast day friends for a little extra motivation people have a go at this the before and after capability is extraordinary
enjoy people Samm for us fella’s switch to change is in the top right hand corner

Excellent rouge . Outstanding !
Very motivational.!
My link is to the same site. The image represents my weight and height. , then the what I should look like when I reach goal. That’s freaking great for affirmation . I will transform.
Hiya all . busy busy . Out with Dad yesterday then over to Ross house . Out this morning and just off out again in a minute for a couple of presents .
Just wanted to share another pound off . that’s 35 pounds down . Christmas here I come so much slimmer than this time last year and 10 pounds off my 5 stone that will make me slimmer than I have been for well over 20 years.
Thank you all my lovely friends for all the tips and encouragement π π

Hello FTers
Good to hear progress.
Happy holidaying in Ireland, JoJo.
Purple, it is interesting to read the story of your progress. Reversing diabetes2 is a real success.
Jinkins, I find what Aussie Oma said to you is good common sense. Glad to see you on this thread.
Wee, you are a star. I have to convert your loss to kilos, but as we started about the same time, you are ahead of me!
At present, I am still on ADF. But in addition, because we are summering over (without much summer) in Wellington, New Zealand which is a city of hills and forest, I am concentrating on doing my 15K steps a day. Feeling great and getting my Wellington legs again. In 10 kilos time that will be even easier!
Happy Fasting Tuesday from the outermost post of the British Empire.
Jojo, lucky girl. Your Irish trip must be fabulous. It is such a fascinating place.
Hi Wiwi and wee Wee! You both seem to be cruising well at either end on “the Empire” π
Keep up the informative posts Samm. I am always intrigued.
G’day everyone else. Missing a few regulars…hope you are all ok.
We’ve had 22 deg overnight, so feel a bit drained this morning. At least it’s not a fast day. P

Challege accepted .
This leads to the introduction of the topic being covered in this review of literature, the Anabolic Nutrient Timing Factor (ANTF). I first learned about the ANTF through Paul Cribb B.S. Sci. HMS. Paul is a research scientist whom studies muscular dynamics he is also the research director for the supplement company AST Sports Sciences.

Good morning everyone, another cool to cold day ahead with cloud cover looking a little threatening at the moment (but it IS only 6:30am)
RT love the simulator … helps put things into perspective.
Weighed this morning to keep a check on myself and happy to see I’ve finally removed those 10kg … next goal is a little smaller and that’s to get back into double digits rather than 3 so just a few more kg’s to go … working on making another strong loss this week.
Had a compliment yesterday about how my loss is starting to show, and was then told well it has for a little while. Happy that it’s showing now and that’s wonderful.
Hi to everyone, Wee, Wiwi, Tartan, PVE, RT, SAMM, Jojo, Smiffy, Hermaj (where ARE you?), Nicky, Nama, Jinkins and everyone else (you know who I mean π )
Felt really poorly yesterday, bit of an upset tum but not really that either, as feeling like a cold is brewing (fighting that will all my might) and very heavy headed so really it was a combination of it all. Today feeling not much better but just a little better is better than feeling worse π if you know what I mean ha ha π
I’ll try to catch up through the day if possible (gets busy at work but trying to ensure I take my breaks when I should rather than keeping on working).
Happy day to all whether fasting or not … onwards and downwards to us all π
Aussie Oma that is fantastic to see the building blocks of achievement form up a solid foundation of belief congratulations on your first 10kg. I am glad you like the simulator visualization is a great motivator I hope you ward off any nasty bug as we are in for some heat later in the week hey.
All the best
RT
Good morning everyone.
SAMM: firstly, thanks for the link to such interesting reading. While I’m not exactly an athlete these days π I’m planning my post weight training eating, based on the information. Secondly, how did you make the link to show your ‘new you’ on the simulator? We could post our future images for inspiration.
Wee, well done on your loss. Such an achievement and the beauty of this WOL is that, for all of us, it’s likely to stay off this time around.
Jojo, so glad you’re enjoying your trip.
AO, sorry to hear about the cold, hope the garlic helps. Compliments really boost the self-esteem and motivation don’t they?
Wiwi, glad to hear from you from this end of the ’empire’ and that you’re getting settled. I love Wellington, even the hills! π
Good FD yesterday with only 320C consumed and today shaping up well. Can’t imagine what was different about last Tuesday. Salad and steamed prawns waiting for dinner tonight.
Have a fabulous day all.
Hello again
Jinkins, yes 3 FD is easy enough. I think Samm’s idea of going on a fast holiday from time to time is good too. It’s a bit the shock to the metabolism of eating and then fasting which is quite a boost to losing those kilos/lbs. I find that regularity of life is the best way of maintaining the FD. But if one needs to compromise for social reasons, why not?I adf strictly even on Sundays if I can.
Someone talked about the ‘gates of hunger’ and I find that eating around 6 or 7 in the evening on FD is the best for me now.
I sometimes find that the morning of nonFD, I get a bit lightheaded if I have almost 24 hours without any food, especially if walking on hills.
Thanks JoJo, Bay Purple RT Aussi Oma Samm Weemam NickyF Hermaj Emel1962 Jinkins Simcoluv Tartan Smiffy Nama(you are all on page 88) and please forgive me for forgetting anyone(on page 87 as i can’t get back). You all help me so much in our common quest.
XXTW Hermaj, please come back. Tu nous manques beaucoup!
Just checking in after a week cooking for my daughter. Her baby is due in three weeks (or when he decides it’s the right time!) Her freezer is full of home cooked, easy meals, lots of soup, shepherd’s pie etc. I’ve cooked, sewn, cleaned, walked the dog, even done a bit of decorating! I’m heading home tomorrow to wait for the news to come.
Lost half my message!
Hi Lizzie, isn’t it lovely to be able to do things for our children when they’re grown up. Please let us know when you’re a gran.
Just come back from a farewell morning tea for a staff member.
I hope you’re all proud of me: I helped our PA to prepare the goodies without being tempted to the tiniest nibble, stood well back from the table sipping my black tea and afterwards, helped with the tidy-up and put some yummy cheeses, dry biscuits, grapes and strawberries on a plate for tomorrow. Such self-control wouldn’t have happened in my bad old days!
Enjoy the rest of the day everyone.
