  • Hi again everyone, just back from the dentist.

Purple, only scrape and clean for me too so came out again with perfect teeth 🙂

Nama, yes very sad about the two horses yesterday. I’m seen as a bit of a party pooper but never take part in sweeps (or buy lottery tickets &c…). Grew up with parents hammering ‘no-one wins from gambling’ and ‘God wants you to earn money from doing work not from games of chance’. Still believe the first, left the second op. behind long ago but old habits are hard to break.

Happy and AO, sadly, can’t say I’ve lost my sweet tooth, such as it was. I’d still walk over hot coals for a cream bun or the like. Just enjoying first coffee of the week, especially so as it was delayed from usual 7.30am by dentist appt.

Take care all and keep up the good work.

Nicky the weight was 135 grams the calories was 247 calories per pasty …

    thanks for this post

    Nicky
I too am a work in progress with the sticky sweet stuff.
I had to learn to be vigilant about counting those foods. I made a simple rule for myself. If I dont know how many calories it is . I dont put in my mouth.

I was glad it didnt take too long to get fast with finding calorie info. Its all become less like cheating and more like counting.

    hmm
to be silly . Counting calories is like a get out of guilt free card 🙂

Aussie Oma what a fantastic achievement a 10kg loss is significant a milestone if you like congratulations to you. And in double quick time a matter of weeks.. In the year 2013 i went from 99kg to 89kg and it took ALL 365 days to do it and only just..
This WOL is truly life changing..

    Buenos Dias Amigoes,

Just finished breakfast and killing time before my last game of bowls. Went to Neeja and Fragiliana yesterday, very enjoyable. Seafood lunch and shopping for my daughter. Today I hope to buy a half price short red leather jacket, always wanted one, but a bit concerned about the size issue. I will think about it seriously before I splash out. I have been dancing every night for four hours so I am hoping this will counteract the breakfast. Don’t usually eat lunch and I don’t have pudding after dinner. I feel fat nevertheless as this much food is twice what I would have at home. Also there are gin and tonics and cafe lattes uncounted.
But at the end of the day I am really enjoying this break of routine. We leave lat morning tomorrow.

The sun is shining but it is a little chilly today.

I am very glad you are all doing so well. It will be your turn to nag me upon my return. I will be back on ADF Friday

    Regards jojo xx

    Morning all.

What a lot of interesting posts to read from the Southern hemisphere gang and SAMM. Everyone is well and happy, which is good to know.

I just got on the scales. It is 12 weeks and 1 day since I started this WOE again and I have lost 25lbs! YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am pain free this morning too. I can hardly believe it 😛

Jojo, I’m happy to hear that you are having a fab time. Don’t buy the jacket unless it is really really tight, because otherwise it’ll be too big in a few months time.

    Have a great day/evening everyone, I know I shall 🙂

Congratulations Amazon, 25lb in 12 weeks is unbelievable!! You have obviously worked very hard to achieve that and should be so proud, you must feel amazing. Jojo will be so happy that so many of her team are meeting her challenge! Also great news that your back is so much better. Very hard to stay focused when in pain.

Thanks for setting such a great example for those of us who still have a long way to go, it doesn’t seem so hard when there are so many of you out there making such amazing progress.

Rolling Stones playing in Melbourne tonight, wow I wish we had tickets! We have seen The Beatles (yrs ago) plus Paul Macartney and Wings every time they have toured, but never the Stones. Would need to sell the house to afford tickets though!

Amazon it sure does get easier as you get your head (and mind) around the fasting/non-fasting.

So far today on a non-FD I’ve only consumed 779 calories and I’ve had my main meal for the day. I’ll maybe have some Ryvita’s or some yoghurt to increase at least to 900 or 1,000 today as tomorrow is another FD for this week (hoping to lose another 800g to make the 10kg mark on Friday). Regardless I’m absolutely rapt with the the results to date and all without stress and hard/fast rules.

Nama you’ll get there too if you follow the simple way of doing this WOE/WOL 😀 … never would I have thought almost 7 weeks ago that I would have lost almost 10kg … I’ve never lost weight so effortlessly before in my life and the fact that I don’t feel deprived and in fact feel terrible that I’ve got to try and increase my intake to make a reasonable amount for the day goes to show just how easy it is as usually it would be trying to cut down enough to only eat 1,200 calories for the day (real hardship) where now on a FD I eat 400 calories or less and it’s no effort at all as it’s only for ONE day, the next day, if I so choose, I can eat anywhere up to my TDEE but preferably no higher than my BMR, so there’s no feeling of “missing out” or “suffering” or any of the other negatives that usually come along with a “regular” diet program.

Amazon that is truly A M A Z (on) I N G results go you, really happy for you, that’s an awesome result 😀

Hi Jojo, Wee, Nicky, RT, SAMM and everyone else, please forgive me for not mentioning you by name if I haven’t done so. Has anyone heard from Smiffy lately or have I missed her posts? Hope all is well with her and all of you 😀 .

AO, if you’re not hungry don’t eat anything else. There will be days when you are hungry and will want more. Thanks to you and Nama for the well dones. I can’t quite believe it myself, I’ve been on the scales at least a dozen times this morning 😆
I am very happy and am going to really enjoy my trip out to the cinema followed by dinner 😛

    Hi Amazon

I wrote HUGE congratulations to you on your wonderful weight loss, and my post has vanished. Well done!

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

good morning from a sunny but cold Scotland ..

Aussie 10k and 25 pounds Amazon congrats you are doing great ,so proud of you both isnt this WOL brilliant ..

RT i HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR PASTIE

SAMMI have what I want too pal as long as it is Under my TDEE

Nama the beatles/rock and roll /Elvis was our era .Was married in 61 🙂
Amazon I do roughly what you do too . around 100 cals a day ,sometimes less .

Jojo so pleased you are having such a good time . I agree though that you only buy it if it is tight . Mine (tan) was too small and now is too big BUT I could wear it with a large scarf round the shoulders ( I have loads of scarves now as I know they will ALWAYS fit lol .

I am going to hoover and polish upstairs today as this is another FD ( I think ) that will be BTB

Hello to everyone else and keep up the good work . brilliant thread this .

    Wee xx

AO, I agree with Amazon. Why eat if you’re really not hungry. Congratulations on your weight loss. Cheers, Bay 🙂

Thanks Bay, if you saw me this morning you would think I was the Cheshire cat 🙂

i want to go for 2lbs a week but i think the gym was putting alot of tension in some of my muscles and its not alwys good weight loss unlss you sick to exhausting cardio which i aoid really

I was peckish so had a couple of Ryvita with vegemite. I kept it light and ended up with 1007 calories for today. Tomorrow is a FD so under 500 calories then my official weigh in day Friday.

DavidRob I don’t do any gym or hours of cardio. I just walk at home and work but as I’m losing weight I tend to walk faster. The rest of my weight loss is following the 5/2 plan adjusted to fit my WOL as sometimes I do 4/3 as I’m doing this week.

I don’t exercise either But I do a lot of running about .I have a vibration plate but I did too much on it one day a few weeks ago and I was sore all over so I am getting back slowly at just a few minutes every second day . I just like the feeling that I am doing SOMETHING.

OMG I am turning into an auld wimp . I was brought up in the country and beasties don’t usually worry me But I hate worms . I was preparing a sweetheart ( pointy )cabbage a few minutes ago and when I WAS CLEARING UP I LIFTED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A WEE BIT CABBAGE I picked up a wee green caterpillar AND IT CURLED UP yuck!! it felt horrible .I then put it all in the bin . This from a woman that used to let the big hairy caterpillars walk all over her hands . Now!! how sad am I lol .

    Wee xx

You’ll be forewarned next time, Weemam, so it won’t shock you. I kick myself (metaphorically of course 🙂 ) every time I see my adult son shudder when he has to deal with a spider. When he was a toddler I opened a folded pair of old curtains that had been stored in an old fashioned pantry, notorious as a home for enormous spiders. I’d forgotten about them and yelled and jumped away when I saw a big one as I lifted the folds even though it was dead! My son learned in that instant to be scared of spiders. I’d never fussed about them before. It was the unexpected sight that made me jump.
    Lizzypb

I think your right Lizzy . I thought it was a wee bit cabbage and didn’t expect it to roll op in my fingers . Just glad I had been to the loo BEFORE I picked it up lol .

    Wee xx

PS Lizzy I know what you mean . I have nightmares and once when my sons were small I had a dream where there was a man in the wardrobe with a gun and he was going to shoot us . We don’t see guns here in Scotland (I have never seen one ) . When I have a nightmare it takes hubby a long time to calm me down sooo the boys saw me terrified . They were really scared and for a long time worried that there might be a man in the wardrobe with a gun ….so I know what you mean xx

Amazon you shining star your success is our ‘the fast family’ success 12 weeks in 25lbs gone we love life congratulations
    RT

Weemam oh yeah ❗ you know it and didn’t have to wash the plate either 😯 straight back into the cupboard licked clean 😆

lol RT it MUST have been good :p

    Wee xx

    Wee,

I had a particularly grim experience earlier this year… I grew my own broccoli, but it wasn’t until I’d cooked some that I realised it was full of caterpillars. OH seemed happy to pick their little boiled/ steamed bodies off (they were still clinging on tight in death), but it put me off my greens! Next year I’m going to net my brassicas 🙂

HappyNow I just suggested to OH that we are going to the freezer market tomorrow to stock up on Frozen veg lol. I don’t want wee bodies /extra meat in my veg lol .

    Wee xx

Very groggy this morn. But wanted to congratulate amazon for finding the way.Great results Happy for you. Keep On Keepin On

Also keep in mind folks that the 5:2 method is a way to lose fat wether we exercise or not. However its not a meal plan that burns muscle protein. So its very safe. So if the goal is to lose fat… make the diet portion the focus point. It does work thank god!

im on a fast day and hungry as its a work day.
just simple red beans. I have to wait to break my fast until I go work much later. Looking forward ti shrimp and vegetables with oatmeal later for lunch.
but hoping I see a good result . If not I’ll keep on for another week.

    Evening all.

Thanks again everyone for your support. I’m still grinning 😆

I’ve been out with a friend. We went to the cinema and then for something to eat. I ordered gnocchi with gorgonzola and spinach and a side salad. I had to leave some of it as I was full. I did not have a starter, and was very disappointed that there was no room for dessert. The wine was good 😉

So funny Happy! Broccoli garnished with caterpillars! You and Wee would not like my compost….I dug into it yesterday and picked up a worm that I thought was a baby snake, at least 6″ long and very wriggly! You are right Wee, probably plenty of (lean) protein in them. I feel sorry for Happys little guys though, cooked alive!

We are off to our escape today, til Sunday night at least. Husband officially retired but still contracting so needs to be back for work Mon. Will be plenty of gardening and walks as well. Your turn will come SAMM, never thought I would be retired and still feel far too young for it, but the calendar shows otherwize! It has come round very quickly! Hope your day is not too busy.

Happy, everything that came home from my allotment was put in the sink and covered with water, then left long enough for the critters to float to the surface and be removed. Whatever was skimmed from the surface varied, but there was always at least one snail 😆

Just before the funeral services, the undertaker came up to the very elderly widow and asked, “How old was your husband?” “98,” she replied. Two years older than me.” “So you’re 96,” the undertaker commented. She responded, “Hardly worth going home, is it?”

I’ve sure gotten old! I’ve had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I’m half blind, can’t hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation; hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can’t remember if I’m 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God, I still have my driver’s license.

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. Hi Amazon,

I grow sacrificial crops, away from ours, and relocate the caterpillars to them. When I harvest, I pick over and release critters (except slugs) back to the wild.

The broccoli was odd this year though as the caterpillars were all tightly packed in the individual florets. I couldn’t see them at all until the florets were cut into. So no chance of picking off. And, although I don’t like killing anything, I did try as you suggest. They drowned, but they didn’t float off and I still couldn’t pick them out! So I left the remaining crop for the caterpillars and the butterflies…. And bought some netting for next year…

Netting is the way to go………………

Except for all the slugs safely munching away under it 🙂

Some you lose, some you lose!

My husband reckons I only grow my very expensive vegies just to feed the critters 🙁 P

Im very curious as to how many of the others on this thread keep a diary or journal of their fast days?

and if anyone has indoor edible plants?

I had chopped it all up and had it in the pot with cold water . When I saw the caterpillar I poured all the water out and put the cabbage in the council food caddy so the wee beastie will be united with lots of family now lol .

Samm loved all the jokes pal I keep a record of EVERYTHING I eat and drink on FD and nonFD

Tomorrow I am having frozen turnip and frozen sprouts 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Hello all

Just to say I’m still here. It has been such a ridiculously busy time that I don’t seem to have stood still for for more than ten consecutive minutes. I’ve been following most of the posts though, just haven’t had chance to write anything myself.

Amazon, Weemam and Purple – what inspiration you are, and everyone else. There is so much lovely friendly, positive spirit on this thread.

Glad you had a good time Jojo have a safe journey home. Great that you could enjoy yourself knowing that any excess baggage you bring home will soon get ditched. This WOE is fantastic in that we can enjoy special occasions and holidays without any guilt or watching every mouthful because we know that a couple of careful FDs will soon put it right.

I have had a lot of social events over the past two weeks, and fully expected to have gained a few pounds, but thankfully not. I have been losing and gaining the same pound, and am still two pounds away from a 2.5 st loss, so am making a determined effort now. My short term goal is to lose four pounds by the time we go to York. (I can’t believe it’s only a few weeks away!). I’m happy to stay at that for a while as I can now get into so many things that have had very little wear and want to enjoy them before they get too big!

Aussie – I’m so glad the pups arrived safely and hope you are not too tired doing your nursing duties. When ours were born, mum had 10. It was her first litter and she was not a big dog, so OH and I used to do half a night shift each to make sure everything was ok and to keep her well fed so that she could feed all the pups. We seemed to be permanently cooking whole chickens, liver and sausages. We were exhausted, but it paid off and they all thrived.

Wee, Lizzie. Happy and Nama – I share your revulsion of creepy crawlies. Only a few weeks ago OH and I realised we were sharing our bed with one of the largest spiders I have ever seen. Urgghh!

Hi to everyone else – Nicky, Tangatawiwi (hope the move went well), RT and Bay. Samm – thanks for making us laugh as ever. The ‘oldie ‘ jokes were great, and some not a little near the truth!

Haven’t seen any recent posts from Hermaj – hope all ok. No doubt busy translating.

Hi also to anyone I haven’t mentioned.

Hope to make a quick trip to Wales for a few days on Friday. Looking forward to a bit of a rest and some good walks.

Keep up the good work all.

    Smiffy x

    Hi smiffy
Nice to hear from you pal . We were all wondering where you were . Midnight now and I am off to bed . take care ..Night everyone ,

    Wee xx

Hi Smiffy. I was wondering about Hermaj too. Hope she’s ok.
Well done to all with your continued fasting. It IS so easy and flexible. As I’m in the 57kgs now I was able to take the glass of wine offered me today at an ‘end of year’ celebration…on a fast day! …. One doesn’t have to be a saint for this to work.
I’m with you Nicky re the Melbourne Cup. I was also raised to believe gambling was a waste of money. I’d rather spend it on something worthwhile. …wine anyone? P

Hi Smiffy, Good to hear from you. 🙂

Samm, did you ask if anyone keeps a food diary? I record water plus what I eat as I don’t count calories. I use it to manage quantity of food, and also to make sure of nutritional contents. And to balance my food intake. 😉

    Cheers, Bay 🙂

Hi SAMM I keep track of everything i eat and drink fast and feed on myfitnesspal although it wont calculate as according to the site any thing under 1200cal is no good for me 1200-1500cal and 1000-1200cal for the ladies still an excellent assessment tool..
As for indoor plants no mate not this little black duck..

    Hi SAMM,

The only recording I do (with pen and notebook as I am a Luddite), is daily weight and general description of food on fast days. Plus any relevant comment relating to activity, mood, reflections on progress etc. I keep it brief though. I calculate calories somewhat roughly as a lifetime of weight watching has given me a good basic understanding, plus the big attraction of this plan (for me) is it’s flexibility. I find cal counting a real drag and if I can continue to lose weight then I really have found the ‘perfect diet’. I don’t own a smart phone or any smart apps, the iPad and my digital camera is the most technical I get! And it’s not in my nature to hurry!

The only edible plants I have ever grown inside were various herbs on a sunny windowsill. Edible but don’t go far if you are hungry! Are you trying to outsmart the weather? I can’t see why it wouldn’t work if you researched it, what about all those hydroponic “substances” some people grow….

    Morning All,
More bad news last night, my brother in law has had a massive heart attack and is now in renal failure. My sister had sent me a text, would you believe it? She thought I was already back in the UK or else she would not have told me. What a shock? I stayed in my room last night and kept in touch by phone. He is comfortable and in one of the best London hospitals so everything is being done. Sadly I have a chest infection which started yesterday so I cannot go straight to the hospital from the airport? So sad, he is not even 60 but has always been at least 5 stone overweight. Be warned my friends we need to beat this killer that is fat and immobility. He is such a sweet and gentle guy with a great sense of humour, one of life ‘s gems, I do hope he makes it.
I admit that I do feel really poorly today and am not looking forward to the journey home, very sore throat, non stop coughing and very little sleep. I can’t even focus on reading, too much effort. Sorry to bring you all down but I don’t have a positive vibe in my body today. I will try to buck up tomorrow, if not I may be off line a few days.
Be good my friends and well done on your weight loss efforts, I am very, very proud of you all. Jojo xxxx

Oh Jojo what very sad news. Everything is crossed for your brother in law, and I do hope you are feeling better soon. What an awful end to your holiday. Look after yourself xx

Thanks all – it’s so nice to be in touch with such a great bunch. I’ve just hopped on the scales and the dratted pound has gone, plus a few ounces. Feeling very pleased. A fast day today so maybe some more good news tomorrow. x

Hi Jojo. Thinking of you and your brother in law and hoping for the best. Bay

    Morning all.

It’s a cold, sunny and frosty 😮 morning!

Nice to hear from you Smiffy. I guess the dogs have recovered, as you haven’t mentioned any ongoing issues.

Purple, you are truly a woman after my own heart, life without wine is unthinkable 😉 My Adelaide friend and her husband own the farm that he grew up on in the Clare valley. We spent a lovely weekend there this year, driving around and stopping at as many wineries as we could manage in order to sample the goods!

Indoor edible plants………………..only a pot of basil 🙁
I jot down what I eat every day and how much and what type of exercise I do, along with weight loss. I’m doing it because writing down what I eat really makes me think about whether I really want/need to eat it. I’m not sure if it will be of any use as a reference, but you never know.

Jojo, so sorry to hear about your brother in law, and sorry to hear that you’ve become unwell on holiday. Look after yourself, XX

    Hi all
No sunshine here but no frost either.

Jojo – Sorry to hear about your brother in law. This story is very close to home for me so my fingers are crossed for him.

Like Amazon, only a pot of basil on my kitchen windowsill. There’s often parsley and coriander too, bought as and when needed. We do have thyme, mint and rosemary in a pot outside but the mint is looking a bit sad now.

I had a really good fasting day yesterday. I managed to wait till almost 6pm before eating so I combined my two planned meals (2 small slices of bread and 1 egg made into eggy bread with 400g tinned tom’s on top, tomato juice slurped off a spoon 🙂 ) Then I went to karate class and had a really good time. I had a nice pear at bedtime.

This morning the scales hadn’t budged but the tape measure told a different story with half an inch off my waist. Yippee!

    Lizzypb

Dear jojo, sending very best wishes to you and your family at this difficult time and hoping your brother-in-law is ok. Don’t apologise for being down, it’s only natural at a time like this and made much worse by being so unwell yourself. Take care of yourself.

Jojo my thoughts are with you during this awful time. I hope and pray that the medico’s are able to heal your Brother-in-Law. I also hope/pray that you are well again soon as this is a double whammy for you at this time, hugs.

SAMM loves the laughs, Smiffy glad to hear from you (puppies are really no problem at this age, we just give a little top up at night to give mum a little bit of a rest … tonight between the four of them they consumed 25mls only … and mum only needed the “special” brekkie for the first three days)

Another FD done and dusted here … hoping that the little I need to lose this week to get to my first goal is gone … already lost most of that this week just need a little more to get 10kg gone. Today 475 calories but only because I ate some cheese … needed a little dairy/calcium.

Hiya everyone . A cold wet and pretty miserable day here n Scotland .
Was to be a FD but phoned Dad place and he was still in bed so I just did a wee quick shop and back home . So I will make tomorrow Dads day and my 2nd FD, That is the beauty of this WOL.

Jojo I am so sorry about your bad news pal BUT the can work miracles now and I still have my OH as proof of that . I hope your journey home isn’t too bad and you feel better soon pal

catch up with you all later …

    Wee xx
