Hi everyone,
Had a great morning at the gym which surprised me after two weeks away with a sore back as I thought it might be difficult. Everything went well and after my workout I had a lovely 15 minute swim to wind down and a nice few minutes in the jacuzzi.
As I turned the corner into my street on my walk home British Gas range to ask if the engineer could come early so the boiler has been serviced and I have a free afternoon π
It is scorching here πππ
I’m aiming for a food free FD today and despite being up early and working hard all morning I’m not even peckish. Long may it last!
Jo do you think the likes of Slimming World are just banging the same old drum without considering the evidence, or do they think that compliance is/will be better with the diet they are suggesting?
Every time I see the Muller Light advert where the woman is astounded that the yoghurt (if you can call it that after all flavour has been removed and the cr*p has been added) has only 99 calories.
Give me 100 calories worth of full fat natural yoghurt any day.
I make my own yoghurt these days and I’m always amazed at how smooth and creamy it is and that it tastes sweet to me. I guess my taste buds have changed more than I thought. There are many thing I can no longer eat that I used to enjoy on occasion and I’m happy with that as most of them are processed carbs that I can do without.
My builder is doing some work next door and he said he’s very upset π π that I’ve not offered him any cake as no-one makes nicer cakes than me. I guess I’m going to have to make one for when he comes to replace the garden stairs in a week or so or I’ll never hear the end of it. I hope he enjoys it with half the sugar π
As for Bay, have you looked on our fb page today?
Morning all,
I’m feeling much better now. As Jo predicted, it’s progressed quickly, perhaps helped along by Monday’s fast?
It’s been a warm few days, but nowhere near the mid 30s thankfully! I don’t even want it that hot when I go on holidqy π
Re: life with no/low sugar. I have a few friends with very sweet tooths who pity me because they think I’m living my life deprived of food joy, but i know my every meal is a taste and flavour sensation that they will never experience unless they kick their sugar habit π
Morning/evening all,
Hi Jo, not sure where the spinach lady got her information from but if she believes it works I’m sure it makes her feel better.
Happy, good to hear that you are feeling better π
Purple hit the nail on the head regarding tasting natural sweetness when we eat less added sugar. Replacing it with artifical sweetener isn’t the answer. How many of us used to take sugar in tea and coffee but have given it up? If we can do that and enjoy the sugar free versions we can do it with many foods.
I have no intention of giving it up completely as I love a nice cake or an ice cream or dessert, but I can happily live with having them as occasional treats.
Yesterday’s food free FD was really hard but today I am wearing the smug “I did it” grin π
HCB is MIA, I hope she is OK.
Time to go,
have a good one everybody π
Hi all,
Thanks for asking Jo, but still waiting for the bub to arrive! She was only due last Friday, so I guess it could still be another week…. Mother Nature knows best it seems. Its times like this I wish I hadn’t been a paeds nurse for so long though, hard not to worry. At least I have last minute wedding stuff to distract me!
I had lunch with old friends today, one of whom has an 11 year old great niece with an aggresssive bone cancer. For a knee replacement on Monday to attempt to eradicate it. It sure puts everything else into perspective.
The positive thing was seeing my friend after 2 months of 5:2 (after being so impressed with moi) having lost 12kgs!! She is certainly convinced of the power of fasting. She is super fit, walks her dogs an hour every day, plays pennant golf almost every day, but has that dreaded sweet tooth! She does feel that fasting has tamed it though.
There are a few ‘regulars’ who have gone missing Amazon – HCB, Slimnhealthy and Nearly Slim Jim to start. Hopefully they are all still fasting.
We are back into winter down here – worst of the cold weather seems to have left as Spring arrived, but not very much sunshine and so much rain! At least our reservoirs are filling up. Lots of Victoria is flooded at present though and Flood Watches everywhere – hoping our little mud brick cottage at Jamieson doesn’t get washed away….
Good Morning,
Hi Nama – I’ve reading all posts. Just a little discouraged lately. Haven’t fasted on two weeks. Thanks fir the thought.
We are going on a 10 day trip out west today. The weather here is beautiful but thee a little cold. Little challenging to prepare what to take with. I try to carry minimum … I bought a new camera. The iPhone can make so much.
The reason I am down is because the result of my Pap smear showed some “abnormal cells” as the nurse put it. I have an appointment with a Gynecologist scheduled. I am a little concerned.
Jo soon will give us news weight loss tips, Amazon and Purple is busy with her kitchen gadgets and delicious food, Happy I am glad you are feeling better and yes I agree that when cut down sugar many things taste real, Wee has a nice little garden shed.
I will try not to eat much on this vacation and jump on my fasting schedule when backβ€οΈ
Hi Fast Trackers and Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) π
Despite the attention grabbing headline there is a wealth of great knowledge to add here excellent graphs and in general just a bloody good read.

Food for thought happy Thursday letβs get the fast on !!
βItβs is easier to avoid eating than to stop eating once startedβ

Vegie Eater – how are you liking 16:8? It sounds easy, but after 2 days of doing it and trying to stretch it to about 17:7 it’s not as easy as simply “skipping breakfast” when your body is used to eating later at night and at SOME point in the morning. But it feels like a manageable plan for my life so am giving it a shot…curious to hear how it goes for you as well!
Hi Paleo
I’m not new to 16:8 or fasting, so I don’t find it difficult. It’s always easier to eat nothing than a little.
I’ve been maintaining my healthy weight for 2 1/2 years now (fasting for 3 1/2) basically by 24 hour no food fasts, a tiny low cal meal, then a further 16 hours, twice a week, and 16:8 most other days. I learnt not to snack, so don’t think about food most mornings or evenings.
HOWEVER. …and this is a big however! …I get slack, call it complacent, sometimes, and reintroduce an occassional brunch, a late, light lunch and a reasonable dinner. This has meant my weight has crept up a kilo, still within maintenance, but I know the fat is starting deposit around my middle again. π Reality check!
So I decided to be strict again. It is a good way of developing mindfulness and resetting the appetite. Strict days remind me of techniques I used initially to lose the 28kg in a year. It is all about mind games.
If you find you snack at certain times of the day, change your practices so that a new activity, not eating, fills that space.
We can all do it. It just takes willpower/ determination.
Good luck…and remember, new habits take time. If at first you don’t succeed. ..
P ππ
Morning/evening all,
I’m going out for the day and looking forward to walking along the Thames from the Southbank in this glorious weather. We plan to have dinner in one of the many riverside restaurants.
All is going well food wise this week as I’m managing too keep my eating in check on non FDs. Fingers crossed that I can keep it up. This weather makes it easier as I don’t feel like eating very much.
Have a good one everybody π
Hi all,
Well we have just come home from meeting our brand new grandaughter, Chloe! Thank goodness all went smoothly and she arrived safely just 24 hours ago. They have already been discharged from hospital which worries me a tad as she is only a little munchkin – 2.9kg (6.4lb). However, I will try to put my nurses hat away and just remember she seems perfectly healthy and alert. Hopefully she will teach her brand new, very green parents how to care for her!! They asked me to leave my phone on overnight, hopefully I wont get a call! I think they are both so exhausted they will sleep, if Chloe permits it! So, a big sigh of relief from me ……. for now!
Nothing to report fasting wize, just had a late “dinner” (10pm) of a coffee and lovely piece of toast and peanut butter – rather a nice celebration I felt! Back on the horse tomorrow though as the wedding outfit is very, very, fitted!! And that is only 10 days away, with a night out tomorrow at the ballet (dinner with friends first) and a High Tea at the Grand Hyatt on Sunday! Asian girls dont go in for drunken, rowdy hens nights thank goodness, don’t think there will be any male strippers at the Hyatt. Actually, I will have more problems keeping my hands off the cakes I think! Just have to remember the Vietnamese outfit that I have to fit into – it does up all one side with press studs, now that would be a funny sight on the dance floor if those start popping!
Well done on your 3lb loss Jojo, great you have rediscovered your mojo! The word Syns intrigues me – or am I missing something. Maybe its a play on the word ‘sins’?
Sorry to read you have been down HCB, its hard not to worry at such times isn’t it? I hope you can put it away for now and enjoy your break.
Hi Ladies,
I hope it’s okay if I crash your thread! After thinking about trying the 5:2 diet, I came across your chat and was inspired. Some great results ladies! And an even better support network! Awesome work.
I’m currently 68kg which is heavy for my frame as I’m short! i recently lost 5 kilos and was down to 63 which was great. Unfortunately I’ve hit a bit of a rough patch and have lost my motivation. I’m back to 68 now which is really disappointing.
I feel that the 5:2 will be a great solution for me, but more importantly i feel this community will keep me on track. I hope I can be apart of this group and help support you ladies with all your efforts, while having you keep me accountable too!!
I will officially start my first fasting day tomorrow, and weigh in with you girls next friday.
Wish me luck!
xx
Nama,
Congratulations, granny! No offence, but it seems unlikely that you will ever stop worrying about your first granddaughter π
I like your style too…some might have popped the champagne cork, not you though!
I had to google ‘syns’. It’s not a play on words, it’s short for synergy…apparently. I’m not even going to go there. As I think Jo said, mostly appallingly bad nutritional advice and no help understanding calories or how the body works. The group leaders main role is presumably to promote SW.. Just hope Jo doesn’t lose sight of Jason Fung end Michael Moseley and start buying in to SW marketing!
Hi Faith,
Welcome. Good luck with the fasting.
Hi Fast Trackers and Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) π
Fantab e osa congratulations Nama that is a significant and memorable moment life is a beautiful thing I hope mother baby granny Dad and Pa have soaked it all in π I think I have outlasted the remaining SA fast folk with Nicky AO and Emel I hope all is well ok Go Crows and lets have a laugh.
Differences between Men and Women β’ Women have more imagination than men. They need it to tell men how wonderful they are. β’ Women have a number of faults. Men have only two β everything they say and everything they do. β’ A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man. β’ Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night. β’ When women are depressed they either eat or go shopping. When men are depressed, they invade another country. β’ A man is a person who will pay Β£2 for a Β£1 item he wants. A woman, however, will pay Β£1 for a Β£2 item that she doesnβt want. β’ Diamonds are a girlβs best friend. Dogs are a manβs best friend. Now you know which sex is smarter. β’ Itβs not true that men prefer foolish women. Rather they prefer women who can pretend to be foolish whenever necessary, which is the very core of intelligence. β’ Men always want to be a womanβs first love. Women have a more subtle instinct: What they like is to be a manβs last romance. β’ To be happy with a man, a woman must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman, a man must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all. β’ A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesnβt. A man marries a woman expecting that she wonβt change and she does. β’ Men marry because they are tired; women marry because they are curious. Both are disappointed. β’ A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband, while a man never worries about the future until he gets a wife. β’ A woman will always cherish the memory of the man who wanted to marry her; a man will always cherish the memory of the woman who he didnβt. β’ There are two times when a man doesnβt understand a woman β before marriage and after marriage. β’ Only two things are necessary for a man to do to keep his wife happy. One is to let her think she is having her own way, and the other is to let her have it. β’ Married men live longer than single men, but married men are a lot more willing to die. β’ Any married man should forget his mistakes β itβs no use two people remembering the same thing. β’ Some husbands are living proof that a woman can take a joke. β’ Husbands are like cars: all are good the first year. β’ A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.
Have A Happy Weekend All You beautiful Losers π

Hi everyone, and a special hi to Grandma Nama π
Chloe weighs more than I did when I was born! Having said that, in those days Mum and baby stayed in hospital for 10 days. Put your nurses hat in the back of the wardrobe and forget about it, as I’m sure all will be well.
I’m also sure that you’ll fit nicely into your wedding outfit and look stunning.
I’ve had a fabulous day. We walked from Tower Hill to Wandsworth Bridge along the Thames Path which according to my pedometer is around 16k. I’m not sure how accurate it is. What I do know is that it also tells me I’ve walked 25,000 steps and my legs are tired.
The weather has been perfect, hot and sunny with a lovely cooling breeze coming from the river.
We had dinner in a riverside pub and were so hot that we sat inside in the cool of the a/c. Hard to believe that it is mid September.
It was such a nice walk and I know that I’ll be asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow π
Congratulations Nama and Mr Nama, welcome little Chloe. You are going to LOVE being grandparents. ..SO much easier than parenting, with still that wonderful love βΊβΊ Don’t worry about her. Babies are tenacious little things. She’ll have them trained soon…if they listen to her ππ
Ha RT. All I can say is vive la difference! !
Good fast. Excellent low weight. All looking good ππ P
Hi all. No RT you’re not the last. I am reading but not “talking” much as had not been able to get my mind into line for FDs. Still working on my mind and it’s games and working on getting it under control lol.
Huge CONGRATULATIONS Nama the grandies are such special people. My youngest is Chloe too. She’s 7 now and a beautiful young girl and such a funny little character ππ.
Must keep going … I’ll be ‘lurking’ but only responding when I can add something relevant ππ
Have a great Friday all ππ
Hello,
Girls thanks for the thoughts!
We arrived in Rapid City very late last night but was a good flight and the place where we are is nice too.
This morning we went to see the face of our presidents carved on the Black Hills Moutain. It isn’t as big as I thought. After we went to see Crazy Horse monument. That one is huge and looks like forever to finish.
It’s a slower pace of this country. We enjoyed ourselves and I was not overthing.
Congratulations do Grandma Nama! Chloe is beautiful and healthy π. You’ll look fabulous on that fitted dress. How’s your son doing?
RT my husband loves to remind me how I’ve changed. He “thinks” he still the same person … Sureeee not π
Be good my friends β€οΈ
Morning/evening all,
It is cool and wet this morning βββ There has been rain across most of Central and South East England all night, torrential in places, some flooding and power outages due to lightning strikes and reports of people being cut off by the floodwater which must be very distressing. Luckily for me, we’ve just had lots of beautiful rain here. When we were out yesterday we were commenting on how parched everything looks, not quite Australia, but brown grass everywhere and lots of dead foliage.
The roads and pavements were looking very dirty too as there hasn’t been much rain in London during the summer.
I slept really well last night and slept in this morning so no time for the gym today which is probably a good thing as my hip is a bit sore. I’m considering going tomorrow morning. I’ve never been at the weekend so have no idea how busy it might be, but worth finding out.
Jo, I’ve not seen the type of treadmill you are referring to which sounds good for someone who unlike me is time poor.
Hi AO, I hope your arm is OK now that the metalwork has been removed. Good to hear from you, and I’m sure you’ll get back into fasting soon.
I’ve adopted my great nephew as my grandchild π
Only 3 weeks until my holiday which is incentive to stick to eating healthily and not over indulge and also a reminder that I need to put some serious thought into what is going into the bag and what is staying in the wardrobe.
A wet day like today is a perfect excuse to put my feet up and read the guide book π
Have a good one everybody π
Evening everyone! Well I finished my first fasting day! It was easier than I thought during the day, but I have to admit the evening I really struggled with it. Old habits and routines die hard!
But I pushed through, distracted my self with a mediation class and I’m ready to hop into bed now. I’m hoping that these days get easier as time goes by.
I am so grateful to be a part of this group ladies, it really did help keep me on track. Knowing that you have all been in my position and that I am supported was really wonderful. Thank you for welcoming me! Also knowing that if I stay strong, I’ll be better able to offer you my support in return, was a great motivator.
Well done Jojo! Amazing results – keep going!
Chat soon! xx
Hi all and welcome Faith, nice to have another Melbournian on board!
Thank you all for your lovely comments concerning my new ‘status’!! Very exciting time for us. And thanks HCB for enquiring about the other son’s knee injury. Happy to say its almost better, he is back to work next Monday after 6 weeks off! Just in time to have a bit more time off for his wedding next weekend! Luckily his boss appreciates him…
I am just home from the ballet and a bit too wired to sleep. It was a very unusual ‘modern’ ballet, quite frantic at times, not as relaxing as a more traditional one. But still lovely to have a night out with old friends, dinner in the city etc. I REALLY need to fast tomorrow! Also missed my swimming this week due to the lurgy that possessed my body, thank goodness thats cleared up and I can get back to the pool on Monday.
How strange that you are also having flooding in the UK – Victoria is so bad at present I have asked husband to build an ark, just in case! Our biggest worry is the cottage at Jamieson, mud brick and not far from the river – it would probably just melt if it got too wet!
Well done on your first fast Faith, yes it does get much easier. (Easier than saying First Fast Faith in fact!) Initially I only got thru fast days by promising myself a treat the following day. Once that came I did not actually want it, its all mind games. But fasting does get easier and you are right, the secret is to keep busy away from food. Hanging around this lot is a huge help too, so many lovely and smart people to inspire you.
Jo I will post a few pics of bub on F/B – her parents are not fans of F/B but I guess on our private group it will be just that – private! She is rather cute and will get even cuter when she gets a bit of fat on her!
I am glad you are adopting your great nephew Granny Amazon, we can learn about being grannies together. Actually Granny Nama sounds much better than what some of my friends have called me: Grannie Annie – horror!
Night all xx
Hello everybody.
You may remember me mentioning that after losing 2st 5lbs and getting down to 19st 6lbs five weeks ago I was so hungry after my third fast of the week I decided to treat myself to a takeaway pizza. Unfortunately because I then got a taste for the pizzas I had one at the end of my third fast every week for the next three weeks. I then had a little holiday from the fasting and pretty soon found I had gained 8lbs back. I then stopped the pizzas and my weight has remained constant at around 19st 11lbs for the last couple of weeks.
So it’s now been five weeks since my last fast and I had come up with a plan that when I went over 20st I would start fasting again. Well I weighed myself yesterday and I was 20st 1lbs, so I thought I would start as I mean to go on by doing the first fast today instead of waiting until next Monday. I’m finding it quite easy at the moment, hopefully I’ll feel the same later tonight.
I had been doing 24hr fasts 6pm to 6pm for the few weeks before my little holiday, but found that I would sometimes eat so much at the end of the fast that I might as well not done one at all (over 4000 calories once; this was pizza, a tube of Pringles and some walnuts), so now I’ll be doing a full day water only fast like I did when I first started this mad obsession about four months ago. As RT says, it is easier to not eat than stop when started and in my case it’s impossible to stop when I’ve started and I’ve got the taste for something.
Jo,
Thanks for asking, the cold hasn’t completely gone but is thinner today so I don’t feel totally gunked up anymore. I won’t go into detail, but it’s been the worst cold I’ve had in a long while.
Well done on the weight loss this week, and wow have you thrown yourself into exercise too!
I’ve had another good eating week, with non-fast days feeling under control. That may fall over this weekend though! Although I managed not to buy a bag of dark chocolate brazils in town today (the bags were huge and I know I can’t trust myself once the bag is breached), I have just made a spelt soda bread. I tried to be strong, but it was calling to me from the cooling rack…”what would I taste like warm from the oven with a bit of butter melting over me…?”… Nyom nyom nyom, very tasty π
The oven is now occupied by poblano peppers hopefully drying into anchos. Much safer!
And Grannie Annie! 24 hours on, have you relaxed yet?!
I thought it was a bit early for you, Jojo. Sorry to hear that you are enduring such pain, sounds like a gentle walk is what’s called for. Congratulations on the recent losses, though.
I’m just back from a wonderful Chinese lunch (no breakfast, in anticipation) – hate to think how many calories were in that! And I am threatening my top limit, a kilogramme over my usual narrow range. It’s all this winter eating, I will be pleased when barbeque and salad season starts.
Great news, Nama, and she looks a darling on FB. π
And it’s great to see us topping the medals-per-capita from the Paralympics, both in gold and total medals – well done our team !!
Morning/evening all,
Much cooler this morning and overcast with the possibility of the occasional shower but I’m going to go out for some fresh air once I get my act together π
The toddler next door is going through the terrible two’s which means daily screaming and tantrums. She is in full flow at the moment and I’m contemplating putting some music on until she calms down……….
Have a good one everybody π
Oh Amazon, I don’t envy you that! Come and stay here! Except for trains all I can here is bird song. And it’s a beautiful morning, definitely autumnal, but blue skies and sunshine.
OH has been away for a week, due back this weekend. Much as I’ve missed him, I haven’t missed cooking for him. I’m just looking through recipe books for interesting vegetarian meals that I can supplement with animal flesh for him.
I’ve also realised that he’s responsible for most of the fluff and bits of matter on the floor! When he’s here I run the vacuum over downstairs daily. I’ve only needed to do it once this week. And there I was blaming the cats…
Good to hear you are all chirpy over in the UK.
We’ve had a beautiful day of watching whales, walking beaches and drawing (me) after a great night at a comedy festival with too much wine π·π·π·π· Yes, it is very easy to reach too much when you weigh less π
Today, oysters and prawns with salad for lunch, barramundi, wrapped with leek, capsicum and lemon, lightly steamed, served with baby carrots and snow peas. All home cooked and delicious. Nothing like fresh, flavoursome, homecooked food.
Enjoy your Saturday Western Hemisphere P π
Happy, I would love to come and stay with you! Fortunately the family next door have gone out so we just have to put up with the dog yapping :rollseyesheavenward:
I went out and did my 10,000 steps in a quiet and peaceful Kew Gardens. The weather probably means that tourists went elsewhere but members know that the gardens are beautiful in all weathers. The newly replanted Broad Walk is looking wonderful as the plants have matured over the summerand is full of flower varieties too numerous to mention, and the formal beds are also stunning and full of colour with plum leaved red begonias, bright pink salvias and silver leaved foliage plants.
I stepped off the paths and walked through the trees which was like being in the countryside. Lots of squirrels and birds working away as there are acorns, beech nuts etc everywhere waiting to be eaten and/or stored away.
I visited the lake and saw the 9 cygnets, all chirruping away to each other and as large as their parents.
I came home and had my weekly bread fix in the form of a bacon sarnie and am now watching tennis and reading jam recipes!
Jo,
Sorry to hear your back is bothering you. As a long-term back sufferer, I sympathise. Although you might prefer to rest it, rest is generally not prescribed these days, but walking is!
Pleased to hear your neighbour’s builders have finished. That’s the kind of thing that quickly gives me a headache. Mind you I’m generally pretty intolerant of noise pollution. Our nearest neighbours are half a mile away, as is the road, although that’s only one car’s width with passing places. I even get grumpy now if I meet one car on my 3 or 4 mile run! Perhaps best if I don’t move back to civilisation π
I’m just tidying the garden up. I harvested all the peas last weekend, and have today removed the netting and supports. Climbing beans and runner beans are still producing though, ideally we need a couple more weeks of nice weather…
After a cool start its been a glorious day, warm enough for t-shirt and shorts in the garden. We’ve had a decent summer this year, but I can’t help being a bit depressed that it’s next stop the depths of winter ββοΈ
Good afternoon everyone . The second glorious day for us in Scotland. Been a long time coming lol. We have been out in the garden getting the 10 planters ready for next years bulbs . Planted loads of winter pansies too. I am finding fasting much easier when the sun shines .
Jo I sympathise 2 pal . I have been stuck in bed not being able to move twice in the past . Now when I get a warning twinge ( Like today) I know to stop . I have red step paint I was going to refresh the back step with today BUT it can wait for another time .
I am managing to chat to our Granddaughter in Australia almost every day and that is amazing .
nama the baby is just so so beautiful . Grandchildren are a special gift :).
Amazon I would love to visit kew gardens but I don’t think we are fit enough now .
Jim is doing great he is looking just like his old self again. I am so pleased to see him like that again.
To everyone I haven’t mentioned I wish you well . I am still managing to maintain and I love it .
Love Wee xx
Jo,
If you’d ever been to a DC tie you would love the noise and the atmosphere. I was at last year’s SF and my Scottish friend is there all weekend.
I don’t get nervous watching any more, I talked myself out of it as it was seriously hampering my enjoyment.
I need to keep moving every day or my back misbehaves but I know how much exercise I can do in a single day and ignore the signs my body gives out at my peril.
It is cooler and cloudier in London than many parts of the UK today which is fair enough as we’ve had plenty of lovely weather and a cool day or two is welcome.
I was doing some research on Myanmar yesterday and went onto a website for a street map of Yangon and there was a weather report, 6pm and 31Β°C which means I’ll have 2 weeks of intense heat and then come home for the last week of October which will be considerably cooler π
I’m trying really hard not to think too much about winter just yet…….
