  • Fill up on low cal veg and herbs with a little Parmesan as an accompaniment to your one wonderful whole egg, Pent. Stick to full fat dairy too. Eat well, but in moderation. There are SO many options for reducing your calorie intake without resorting to corrupting a beautiful perfect egg.
Better still, do what many of us do and skip breakfast to reserve your cals for later. P

    P. food for thought….or is it thoughtful food..?
    ’till then, later alligator

Well even if I didn’t prefer a whole egg, it would be just too disrespectful to our girls to waste the yolks. It takes an immense amount of resources to lay an egg every day. Every egg is precious 🙂

Oh P., I missed the last part of your comment….the part about ‘skipping the most beautiful meal of the day, breakfast!’
I LOVE this meal like I love breathing air…on the other hand suppertime can easily be forfeit but never my happy morning meal; break-fast starts my day with vigor and good cheer! Just for me though so it seems.

Dearhearts, I don’t through a way the yolk! Me eternally slim husband gets his weekly vanilla custards and I add extra yolks to my homemade Soda bread and Sourdough biscuits and in other foods that I cook and even add then to my husbands omelettes. We don’t waste good food in this household!

Pent, I was always a breakfast lover. I used to dream of great breakfasts. It’s what got me out of bed! About 18 months ago, Happy convinced me it was possible to eat breakfast at another time…same food, different time. When you can only eat so few calories every day (and I’ve been maintaining for nearly 2 years), when you eat your favourite food is unimportant. What you eat and how much is what counts. Mealtimes are random now, but the quality of the food is SO much higher. Go on, enjoy your eggs and full fat dairy. They will sustain you while you lose weight. P

Thanks for your feed back P. For me only, it’s not the actual FOOD that I eat at breakfast as I often, (pre-5:2) eat what would be called traditional ‘supper’ foods for break-fast but rather it’s the TIME of day that I want to eat. I’m an early riser, 04h30-05h00, after my writing, correspondence and spiritual time finishes, circa 08h00-08h30, I am VERY hungry and I eat. After my FOOD/FUEL and pretty regular like rain, (new post 5:2). I go do my cardio exercise. This life-rhythm only changes in the summer months as often by 07h30 it’s too hot (for this northern girl) to move a muscle outside but then I will get to swim for cardio instead. Ahhhh such is the pleasant life of the retired folk…

    Hi everyone,

Just back from the gym. After my workout I decided that I was going to buy myself some hot cross buns which meant walking five minutes from the gym to the shopping centre. As I walked out of the gym a bus came along and saved me from myself 🙂

Happy, my bedroom was such a mess I have no desire to have a record of what it looked like. I might take a photo once it is finished and my new furniture has been delivered.

I only eat one egg unless I’m frying it and I accidentally break the yolk as I feel cheated, and to be honest I can’t see the point in not eating a whole egg as the yolk is nutritious and delicious.

I do miss my egg sarnie on a Saturday morning and am looking forward to breaking the bread fast with one at Easter 😋

I’ve just had Bircher muesli with a fresh fig and home made full fat yoghurt for my brunch 🙂

    Hi Ladies,

I managed to graze two panels of my car on my own drive wall today. My head was not there when I was reversing. Sadly the proximity alarm goes off everytime I reverse because the drive is narrow which is why I ignore it. That mistake has spoiled my driving record of no damage caused by me since I passed my test at age 17. I am so cross with myself, I am usually so careful reversing.

I do usually have one egg at a time but as I have been on rations I was starving this morning. It was enought to see me through to my dinner thanks. I love eggs and find them very filling. It was great getting out in the sunshine this morning, I didn’t even wear a coat, just a fleece.

I have tried egg white only meals, didn’t think they were as good as the whole egg version. My calories are counted so it’s not as issue what I have when, just so long as I don’t exceed the total of 1200 non fast day or 800 on BSD.

Another good win at bowls which cheered me up after the car situation.

Hello all, been laid low by flu for the past 2 weeks, it really has taken some getting over. Feeling much better today, especially since I got my hair cut too – I feel presentable again! I have not been on the scales yet but my appetite (and exercise) has been virtually nil of late. Looking forward to getting back to routine and catching up with you all.

I went to the pub with my girlfriend last night. Locals were shouting
paedo and other names at me just because my girlfriend is 21 and I’m 50. It completely spoilt
    our 10th anniversary.

My budgie broke his leg today so I made him a little splint out of a
couple of Swan Vesta’s,his little face lit up when he tried to walk..
Unfortunately, I forgot to remove the sandpaper from the bottom of his

I got sacked last night from the Salvation Army soup kitchen,
    ungrateful bleeders.
All I said was, ‘hurry up for goodness sake, some of us have got homes

Last night I was sitting on the sofa watching tv when I heard my wife’s

‘what would you like for dinner my love, chicken, beef or lamb?’
I said, ‘Thank you, I’ll have chicken please’

Have a happy weekend all you beautiful losers 😆
    Peace RT

RT- you are skating on thin ice
Racist, Ageist and sexist jokes, wait for the onslaught!

But seriously, if you don’t laugh you have to cry.

Penti- that is seriously early to get up, I thought I was an early bird at 6.30 am. I used to feel the same about breakfast but rarely have it now, sometimes at the weekends. I found missing a late meal stopped me getting my shut eye, missing breakfast was no problem except changing my routine. The first time I left the house having not eaten breakfast I felt like I had lost a leg, very strange indeed, breaking a 60 year habit is quite an event.

Good luck whatever method you take to win the battle of the bulge, we are all different and need to find our own way. It’s only when we stop losing we need to reassess our habits.

Fresh laid eggs everyday would be amazing. Don’t think my dogs would cope with chickens on the premises though, they chase everything in site.

Getting back to 800 calories tomorrow- finally found some pomegranate seeds, hurrah!
Have a good fast my friends

Oh RT! Thank you for a great start to Friday. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I really needed a laugh. Just heard last night that my long-standing colleague, the one for whom I had been filling in on Wittunga weekend duty died yesterday. He had bowel cancer and wasn’t yet 50. He was a cheerful friendly man who lit up everyone’s day, lived a healthy life of good food and was physically fit and active with his job as a Botanic Gardens of SA horticulturist and black belt karate instructor. Sometimes lifestyle and attitude are not enough.

Enjoy the long weekend my SA mate.

Hi Nicky thats terrible not 50 wow that is reality in one big slap in the moosh bugger when i heard the Geelong football player Paul Crouch had suffered a heart attack and died last weekend whilst bike riding the same thoughts i have when reading your post healthy lifestyle good diet excellent physically top bloke good scout happy aussie fella do anything for anyone that phrase only the good die young is very shallow and empty one 😥
    Peace RT

Hi everyone, RT love the jokes. Nicky so sad to hear such a void to fill. I’ve been “listening in” on all the conversations, but not got around to posting even though I’d meant to, so here I am 😀

Not going so well still but endeavouring to keep within TDEE limits (which I AM achieving albeit not managing fasts just yet). One thing that keeps nagging at me is to perhaps kick start and do a liquid only fast (non-alcoholic I promise lol hahaha) for a minimum 24 up to 72 hours however will need to time it so OH doesn’t go all “you must eat” on me which he’s liable to do so need to get my strategy right first 😀

Nothing much to report other than I’m still hanging in by a thread … good luck to you Jojo and hope you get that gall bladder removed soon, so difficult for you. Have fun all and chat later 😀

    Hi all,
AO lovely to hear from you. Hanging on by ‘a thread’ is all you need to do for now! If you can stay around TDEE you won’t undo all your good work. I think considering what you have been through with your shoulder and your job changes, you are doing well! Lots of lesser mortals would have just gone back to overeating!!
Nicky so sorry to hear about your friend/colleague. Way too young. Every day is precious.
RT, so funny! Jojo is right re the non political correctness – aren’t we lucky to have this thread where everone has enough common sense to just enjoy them for what they are…..mmm liquid viagra, imagine if you got the dose wrong….. the mind boggles.
Have a great weekend all. Long one here too, to celebrate the eight hour working day on Monday….its a funny old world where we get a public holiday to celebrate working less!!

    Hi again

Thanks RT, AO and Nama for your kind words. In his final months he set a wonderful example of how we should all live our lives as if each day was our last. Cheerful and brave even when he was so thin and haggard he looked like a living corpse.

AO good to hear from you. As Nama said, hanging in by a thread is enough when times are tough.

Take care all and enjoy the long weekend. Nama, ours is ostensibly for the Adelaide Cup which isn’t run until May but they changed the holiday because the weather is better in March – go figure that one out!

Jo, sorry to hear about your error of judgement with your car – dents can always be fixed but it’s so irritating. You asked about my planned 3-day fast. Like AO I have to time it right because of my OH’s concern about me not eating. He’s going to Perth for the week before Easter so planning to do it then. I love him to bits but sometimes I like being on my own…. 😉

A man went to the doctor because his foot was sore. The dr gave him a large pill and left him in the office while he went to get some water but took so long the man found a drinking fountain and, with great difficulty, swallowed the pill. He then returned to the office. A short while later the dr came back with a bowl of water to dissolve the pill so the man could soak his foot.

    Brilliant Nicky woops 😳 😆

    Morning/evening all,

Sunshine and frost again this morning,

    Another FD beckons.

I forgot to say yesterday that I had unearthed the scales and I’ve lost 8lbs in just over 4 weeks which is very satisfying and feel confident that I can lose the 12lbs I’ve set as a goal for my trip to Rome 8 weeks tomorrow. If all goes well it might be more. Setting a mini goal with a deadline usually helps and as soon as the bedroom is back in order those skinny pink jeans I bought last year and never got into will be hanging on the wardrobe door to remind me.

Have a good weekend everybody 😜

The skinny jeans are a great visual goal! They are for me too!!

    Hi pen nib,

I’m already wearing skinny blue jeans but they have some lycra so they stretch a bit and the pink jeans don’t. I would love to be able to wear them when I go to Rome.

This article is about the link between cholesterol and heart disease and is very interesting
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-35775318

The sentence that interested me the most was

“It is worth noting that exercise both increases HDL and reduces the risk of heart disease.”

Well done Amazon!! You’ll look gorgeous in Rome!!! P 😀

    Hello from Milton Keynes

A bit sad to leave beautiful summer behind downunder!
A long silence, as leaving NZ was a fulltime job.

Now a big effort needed to counteract the excesses!

Off to Rome on Monday where I hope to find my wee grandsons, some sunshine and then back to France when we get tired of Italy (unimaginable).
There will be no pasta in Italy for me, but instead, hopefully those wonderful vegetables of Rome will be available.

I will catch up with the thread and answer when we are in Rome.

    xx Wiwi

    Hello all,

Congratulations Amazon, 8lb gone despite the cake and the renovations! Pat yourself on the back, thats a real achievement.

Lovely to hear from you Wiwi – safe travels and keep us posted. How lovely to see your grandsons, a great compensation for leaving the sunshine behind. And how you will enjoy getting home to France and the Spring garden!

I will be AWOL til at least Tuesday as off to Jamieson for long weekend and no wifi this weekend. Walking shoes and new gardening gloves packed, plus my oil paints in case I get bored with gardening…..
Have a lovely weekend all xx

    Good evening all,
Busy thread today. Nicky I am so sorry to hear about your colleague, it doesn’t seem very fair as he made good life style choices. Was he a meat eater? I regularly chat about lifestyle and healthy eating with my bowls colleagues. The reply is either, everything in moderation or I am too old to worry about dieting. Most feel they are doing enough by playing bowls. It really isn’t enough, a brisk one hour walk exceeds the steps of a two and half hour bowling event. Weirdly though many bowlers also play cards, do crosswords or play scrabble so at least their minds are getting a workout too. According to a TV programme the best thing we can all do is learn a new skill. Now this is something I take really seriously as I am learning a language, an instrument, a new sport ( Archery) and Bridge. For feel good factor its bowling and Rock Choir.

Is anyone else learning a new skill?
If anyone hasn’t tried baked portobello mushrooms stuffed with onion( pre-cooked), tomatoes, corgette and peppers- they are georgeous and very filling. If you can spare the calories add goats cheese to the top. Enjoy – calories per weight.

The sun was out here so I made use of the warmth to do some gardening, pruning, at the flat garden. Did not tackle the Holly though, use the electric hedge trimmer for that job. Met my new tenent, all I can say is- yummy! Charming, handsome, likes cooking, cleaning, gardening and motorbikes. What is not to like? He of course is divorced and has a girlfriend but you can’t have everything. He will rent the flat for 6 months while he sells his own house and chooses a new one here. So I am happy that the flat will be in good hands, I will be checking it every three months this time.

    Morning All,
no change on the scales today but OK with that as I am still taking anti- inflamatories which usually make me retain water. Still having some pain but tolerable.
Cancelled my plans to perform with the Rock Choir today as I had a bad night. It will be nice to get out in the garden today as it is mild and there is much pruning to be done at this time of year.
Amazon- great job on the eight pounds. You will be on maintenance before you know it. Looking forward to seeing the bulbs at Kew, what else do you recommend?
Wiwi – sounds like you are having a busy time of it, enjoy Rome and your grandchild.
Spoke to Beccy last night on FaceTime, she is very happy and will likely get full time hours within a couple of months. Her friend has bought a large new house and asked her to stay on to help with bills, she has agreed as its only a 30 minute walk from work. She used their car for the first time last week so she is getting used to the road system in town. Since she can’t get a house pet she is planning on rescuing a rabbit, her chef housemate has promised not to cook it but he thinks she is a little crazy. I was showing her the picture of the four feet rat found this week in London by a gas engineer, scary prospect is it not? Apparently they found a huge one in New York too. My old dog brought a live standard size rat in my kitchen once, that was quite bad enough. It kept jumping at us while we were trying to catch it. Safely rehomed in wasteland eventually.
This cat I am house sitting is really enjoying exploring my house, gives it plenty of exercise. My dogs are very interested in the new scents around the place but they won’t be meeting. The cat is ok with dogs but my dogs would chase her which would be very unfair as she is 20 years old. She likes to watch television wheras my dogs never show any interest in it.
Have a great weekend everyone, enjoy Jamieson Nama, thinking of you gardening like me.

    Morning/evening all,

After going to bed hungry I slept until 8.30 this morning!

It’s a bit dull here this morning but no frost and the difference on temperature is noticeable ☺

Jo, there is usually a big blackboard just inside the entrance at Kew telling everyone what is worth looking at/in bud/bloom. If not ask one of the staff at the gate.

I have a way to go until maintenance but am determined to be there by the summer. It is nearly 3 years since I first begain 5:2 although I did have an 8 month break in 2014 when I regained 18lbs, so it has turned into an epic. Having said that if someone had said to me at the start that 3 years later I would weigh what I do now I would have taken it!

I’m trying hard to remind myself of how far I’ve come and how close I am as it does help in moments of weakness or disappointment if the scales aren’t moving.

I’m having a haircut later then meeting my friend for coffee. She’s been in NZ since the end of January so we’ve much to catch up on 😎
Have a good one everybody 😜

    Amazon,
Yep it’s a long journy to lose nearly eight stone but I will get there, like you I had a big gain on the way but hopefully learnt not to be so hard on myself as its a downward spiral. I am keen to Lose the rest on a low calorie system as I can’t face another year. I think a goal date is essential to our motivation. My general goal is still 2 lb per week but I will settle for one if the social life is too fraught to focus 100 %.

I am going to have to rethink meals at bowls, I asked to bring my own healthy option but they refused. Lately I have been doing three competitions per week and stuck to tuna salad, no dressing, no jacket potato and no pud but it is really tough as I don’t really like tuna and I watch the others eating big traditional dinners. I suppose I could just have salad ( no protein) and smuggle in some honey and mustard dressing. Their salads are not wildly exciting though just lettuce, tomato, red pepper and cucumber.

They all think I am mad resisting meat and two veg plus apple crumble and custard.
When it’s cold outside I agree with them.

    Jo,

Do you have to eat with the team during competitions? I know you enjoy the social aspect of a group dinner but if whoever makes such decisions insists on being so intransigent then you must take matters into your own hands. The first thing you can do is arrange your own meals. If you are travelling or at another local club you can always try calling the hotel/club and asking for a vegetarian or grilled fish option. If they are unable to accomodate you then you could ask if they would be able to heat up something if you provide it.
If you are playing at your own club then you’ll just have to say goodnight after the match and go home to eat a healthy and satisfying meal if they won’t accomodate your request or allow you to bring your own food.
You must not allow them to scupper your diet.

Let them think what they like, it’s your life!

    Sermon over 😉

You need to be tough at bowls Jo. I meet with friends every week on one of my fast days. I have done for a couple of years now. They eat yummy food and drink wine. I just have black coffee and water. They know it’s my fast day and never question it. I’ve learnt to ignore the smells and enjoy the conversation. Excellent training, I think. Steels my resolve.

Interestingly my skinny friend often has one tiny strip sandwich and coffee. My larger friend will have 5 sandwiches and 2 wines. Hmmmm…P

    Thanks All,
The meal is included in the cost and it is a requirement that you stay unless you have an urgent problem. After the meal we have the speeches and scores plus the raffle. Other clubs usually offer better food choices for vegetarians.

I have stuck to my guns and resisted temptation plus put in a written suggestion that healthier vegetarian options should be available but they are very old fashioned and anti- change. Symptomatic of the generation and Island mentality around here. What is on offer, 99 % of the bowlers want so I am a minority voice. The food is all prepared from fresh ingredients and well cooked so no one complains. There are cold puddings with fruit and cream but none just fruit. The vegetarians put up with the rather dull grated cheese salad on offer each week.

I have noticed that the larger bowlers often ask for bigger helpings and second helpings. The slimmer ones often choose salad. You are what you eat, no doubt.
I have considered pulling out of competitions to make my point but it seems like cutting off my nose to spite my face, I love the game.

In that case you have to think outside of the box.
Choose the cheese salad and take a small container with strips of raw veggies, peppers, courgettes, carrots, mushrooms in a yoghurt, mustard and lemon dressing and add it to the salad. The whole thing takes minutes to make.
You could add a hardboiled egg or some fish of your choice and leave the cheese.
If it is cold take a small thermos of your lovely soup that you can drink from a mug with your salad.
You’ll just have to say no to dessert.

    You can do it ☺

    Amazon,
Not allowed to take food or drink in, even an apple. I think I may get away with the ‘dressing’ on health grounds but that is about it. I will survive. I can eat in the car park but I don’t get a refund for not having the meal so it’s a probably best if I stick to the salad option with tuna. Can’t have cheese, remember! Not worth the pain I will get. Actually the custard is the biggest temptation, the smell is Devine, I used to love it over stewed apples or rhubarb crumble. Perhaps after surgery I will be able to have it once per month as a treat. We will see.
Off to the theatre tonight, Alan Bennett play about Spies, should be good.
Still lovely weather here, gardening done and off cuts taken to the tip. Good days work.

    Hi Everyone,
Jo-jo asked if I am trying anything new. I signed up for a math class. It will be 90 hours of math this year. They are going to give us a test the next time we meet to see if we get better. The class is to help teachers teach math better. Algebra equations baffle my mind.
I am enjoying reading the posts and relaxing. Made some veggie soup today and a green been casserole.
Also, I started a new food journal, hoping to figure out why I overeat. I think I fail to plan. So it will also be my planner.
    Take care everyone,

    Sarah103,
I am with you on Algebra, I took a degree in teaching in my 50’s which included doing a GCSE in Maths, it was an education that’s for sure. I can am generally good at maths but that area was a task. My mental arithmetic has always been good, blame it on the playing darts and cards. I usually mentally add up my shopping too, just to exercise the brain. I also did accounts in several job including running my own business, never really needed algebra in my working life.
Planning is indeed a vital key to success. Try keep a store of frozen soup, it’s great when you need a calorie controlled fix.
Looking forward to another day in the garden. Cutting the grass today. Sun is out and it is mild, makes life so much nicer. I may need to consider moving abroad in winter like Wiwi, it just makes sense, especially as I have a daughter on the other side of the world. Now Barata- that empty room Ha Ha! Actually in all seriousness I may be returning for a month in Jan/Feb next year as my ex has decided to celebrate his 60 th with our daughter and explore NZ.
Ok so now I really have a goal to hit and maintain 10 stone.

    Morning all,

Well it’s definitely milder here, and my thoughts turn to the garden…first things first, get some seeds started! Chillies and broadbeans (for the polytunnel) are germinating, I’m going to start my tomatoes, courgettes and cucumbers today, and maybe sow some carrots and beetroot in the polytunnel too.

I’m going to ‘sacrifice’ a couple of raised beds and prepare them for the asparagus I grew from seed last year. I’ve got 10 plants, but need to start more as I think I probably need 20 to get a reasonable crop for two people. Do any of the other gardeners here grow asparagus? And if so, how many crowns?!

Jo, I don’t have time to take up a new hobby, I don’t have time for my existing hobbies! Now if only I didn’t work…and had a cleaner…and a gardener…!

    Morning/evening all,
    Happy,
When I first got my allotment I had no idea what asparagus was and was very annoyed with these funny green stalks that kept appearing all over the place seemingly overnight and I dug them all up. When I discovered the taste of asparagus the penny dropped and I was so annoyed with myself. I bought some crowns and planted them but they died and I guess I did something wrong as they obviously could survive in the soil 😤
I think 20 would be a good number and you may find you want more but IMO there is no such thing as too much asparagus!

The weather is definitely more spring like so let’s hope winter is over. I was going to plant some chillies this year, I have an electric propogator that I put in the living room in the bay window, but what with going away at the end of January and the building work I didn’t get round to planting any seeds so it’ll have to be some seedlings this year. I’m planning on growing them in window boxes so they get lots of sunshine.

Only two weeks until Easter, I can taste that bacon sarnie already……..

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Thanks Amazon,

I’ll aim for 20 in the first instance.

Re: starting seeds. I have a couple of heated propagators too, but I’ve found to my cost that if you start some things too early you don’t get an earlier harvest, you just get weak etiolated plants. And things like cucumber and sweet corn want warm growing conditions, hard to provide if spring is cold and sunshine scarce!

    Happy,
Yep, working for a living sucks, I love retirement. When I ran the school I had a cleaner and gardener as I worked long hours but now I am head cook and bottle washer. I imagine your hens and home growing take up most of your spare time. I am only growing tomatoes and flowers this year because I plan to travel quite a bit. IT must be great having a poly tunnel, does it have automatic watering system.
Just spent three hours mowing the lawn, the grass was very long so it was very hard work. Looks lovely now, can’t see all the weeds in the lawn when it’s short.
Back on the BSD plan today, picking up where I left off. Hopefully I will manage 8 weeks from today.

    Hi Jo,

We haven’t installed the automatic watering system…yet! It’s on the list though. It will obviously save time, but it’s also much more efficient use of water, particularly important as we’re not on mains.

I’m the plantswoman, but OH is the lawnmower. Thank God I don’t have to do everything!

It’s been a great day, not wall-to-wall sunny, but 15 degrees!! I know the Upsidedowners will laugh, but we’ve been out in t-shirts AND sweating working outside!

I’m glad to hear you’re feeling well enough to restart the BSD. Sounds like the sooner you get rid of your gallbladder the better?

    Happy,
    15° is positively balmy 😉
I think you’ve had warmer weather than me today. It has been a glorious sunny day but the wind was bitterly cold when I went out this morning and I was wishing I’d put a warmer jacket on!
I went to the local Sunday market which consists of less than a dozen stalls but there are some great foods on sale. I came home with olives, some fabulous cheese, pork belly and a huge bunch of ruby chard which made me very happy as it isn’t something I see on sale very often in London.
It has definitely warmed up as I haven’t had any heating on today.

My garden is very small and there is not a blade of grass in sight. When I first moved in there was a small patch and I dug it up and laid a patio using paving slabs.

I would love a bigger garden so I could grow some vegetables but I can’t see that happening unless I win the lottery or move to John o’ Groats!

Sometimes you’ve just got to love Spam! This is an excerpt from the thread Overnight Weight Loss, worth saving before the thread is deleted.

“Being overweight does not necessarily make a person unhealthy. It just makes the person a bit unfashionable.”

Seems we’ve all gone wrong! The answer isn’t weight loss at all, but a make over/ personal stylist 🙂

I read that one too and the last part made me laugh. I was tempted to respond with “no sh*t, you mean it won’t work if I don’t stick to the plan”

    Smiley

    Evening All,
Amazon- freezing here too and seriously cold wind chill factor. Off to Kew tomorrow with my garden group. Looking forward to seeing the bulbs.

Happy- a friend had a timer watering system in Spain for her roof top plants, it was brilliant. Definitely a good investment.

I am planning what plants I need to get for planters in my front garden. I want bright colourful ones that don’t mind dry conditions. Thinking some double geraniums and bizzy lizzies

Jo, I went to Kew today and the bulbs are spectacular. The woodland glade is full of scillas, there are daffodils, crocii and snowdropes everywhere, and if you go round the back of the Princess of Wales conservatory, the funny shaped mini conservatory at the end of the rock garden is full of delights!

Sorry I can’t join you, maybe next time!

I don’t have any bookings for the spare bedroom in January, Jojo, so let me know dates 🙂

I’m off to my personal stylist on Thursday, should see a drop on the scales on Friday morning (nothing to do with Thursday being a FD, or course).

Fortunately my OH does the lawns too, Happy – but I do the rest !! Just need a bit of rain overnight for the grass to grow, there has been so little in the last two months, and February was the warmest on record here in Wellington.

    Morning All,
Very bad pains last night, back to soup diet today, can’t ignore the fact that the BSD diet does not agree with me and my current gall stone issue. Maybe it’s the combination of foods or a single ingredient causing issues but I don’t know which it is as there are so many foods in the programme. I don’t like to give up but it’s too much of a coincidence to ignore. Taking painkillers with me to Kew today, hope it isn’t too bad today. Hopefully a walk will do me good.
    Have a great day everyone

Or of course, it could be exactly that, just coincidence? Two things happening at the same time aren’t necessarily cause and effect.

The Mediterranean diet, low in refined carbohydrate and saturated fat, seems to be exactly the well-balanced healthy diet recommended for gall bladder…Well in fact everything!

Oh well. Hope whatever you decide to do instead works.

    Morning/evening all,

Jo, I think your symptoms are more to do with your gall bladder needing to be removed as soon as possible than the BSD diet. You’ve been having problems for ages and the time between attacks of pain and feeling unwell has been diminishing.
As Happy says, the diet is very healthy and low in saturated fat so it is the best eating plan you could be on at the moment. If you don’t mind me saying, I think you need to slow down a bit and stop making such physical demands on your body until you’ve had surgery and are fully recovered. I know you have always led an active life but your body is telling you that it is struggling to cope with everything at the moment.

    Cold and cloudy this morning.

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Hello all,

Back in Melbourne after a wifi free weekend. Now wondering if the long silence on here is due to a crisis for Jojo’s gall bladder! I certainly hope not!

Kew Gardens sound wonderful, I would love to be heading into Spring/Summer instead of Autumn/Winter! The Victorian countryside is so dry though, we do need some winter rain. Crossing the Bonnie Doon arm of Eildon reservoir was a shock this weekend, it looks like a moonscape with just a narrow channel of water. It has dried up considerably in the four weeks since I last went to Jamieson. My ‘gardening’ weekend consisted mainly of watering the poor garden.

Happily though, minimal weekend entertaining meant sensible eating and fasting! Finally removed the “Vietnam” kilos and moving downward again. Its amazing how complacency is never far away. Losing 23 kgs was a challenge, but the extra few that crept on in December have been determined to stay with me! Obviously I can never lose focus, but its well worth it to be able to wear size 12!

    Hoping you are ok Jojo….
