  • Jojo im so veery pleased about skipping.

if you get easily winded then less than 1 minute.
    Can you watch the video

    the truth about exercise.

in it explaind the neat and hiit

but also vo2 max. I may have it wrong stated wrong.

I strongly believe the winded factor to be a key to getting into other sports. But more importantly is pinnacle health benefit.

Other than swimming I dont know what else can be as effective as skipping. And if we combine walking, swimming, skipping, and weights like kettle ball and a bit of stabilty exercise like yoga . Your one the track and rolling full steam ahead.

I dont like spirts as much as I like sailing . So I ditched sports for the social aspect of sailing and joined a gym that is for boxers . Yes at 46 I get in the ring and fight. More of a spar . But only when no elsewill do it. I dont like the treadmill thing its just not my cup o f tea. . Niether is boxing , but im tired of not defending myself. Give a fast five and then jump on them and whail like I mean it. Thing is when I was guard I got alot of traing on take downs. As well as judo and jujitsu when I was teenager . So the boxing gym is where I go to my seven compound lifts and help out the young boxers.

Its the sailing I love though. I spmetimed sail in way that I hold three ropes and the rudder arm and is like a tug of war with the wind. Other sailors just figure out why I do it cause its not tactical . But I love the the pull of the wind and ability to hold it eith all my might. Jump in and swim .treading water to . Then fish for my dinner. I grew up from 10 doing it . My boats are 26foot clipper marines one for racing at lakes within 100 mile radius the other for keeping in a slip at the lake to escape my neighborhood.

I used glucosimine condrotin when I staryed jumping because my weight of 260 was pinching nerves. In mt hip and spine.
Im so close to 224. 50lbs. But I know ill get there. So im just staying my course till I do then at 224 im going to pour on the body building tac. Being and feeling strong is very motivating to me espevially while im not in as much pain . I keep on with the therapy for my foot and ankle. And also the therapy for my torn rotator cuff. No need to take chances of additional injuries. ive already been on sports teams. Im more into martial arts than scoring though. My favorite weapon skill is the long staff. I would love to use a katakana some day I have one. I practice with it but view it a dangerous and impracticle. So I use the staff instead as when I walk with a lady by my side . We will not be mugged. As long as I have the staff. Nope not even the crazed animal could get a bite off my butt. See when I was a paper boy I got bit . Several times. The dogs were destroyed by the police. It made a profound influence on me. Weapon wise. I wont carry the gun in public. But I can carry a cane or walking stick. From the age of a teenage it hasstayed with me . I can defend myself.
Well enough of that. Now that im trying to improve my health im finding the fasting approach much more more doable than typical dieting.
Learning how to get my body yo fat burning stste and then keep on keeping on. Its coming off jojo. Im as committed to seeing it through as you are.

Im starting to look very closely at carbs though.
I dont think anyone will follow the path im may go for time. Reason is because I know from previous experience I dont need good tasty foods to kerp me. O n my diet. And my next approach will not be tasty. Eell maybe to a billy goat. If works I may share. But

    Yes I csn relate.

I have had few weeks where I tried to fast but wasnt really Into it due to things beyond my control.

I learned to have a menu just for that.

one I can send to to the grocery and the delivey guy leaves at the door. Done and done.

Mostly chicken and shrimp and eating fish when out

Back on tablet sorry for the misspellings.

Deelite , I have ankle issues too.
I’ve learned if I have to push on , I wear calf high boots the kind with zipper. when at rest put ice on it. I mean I can unzip and put a cold pack in it. I was in bed for 7 months after an accident. I kept waiting for the day that I felt good enough to push on. It never came! So I just decided I would have to live with it. Thing is it hurt just as much wether I was active or in bed.
If I ever get that ways Ian I’ll be I to the sit and be fit programs.

I finally choose combat , jump boots , the kind the military use to jump out of air planes . After looking through them I found one that had a two inch thick insole. For high impact falls.

    Good evening all,
Just back from a party. My friends were super impressed with how I look but not impressed that I refused alcohol, chocolates, trifle and cheeseboard. I refused to be bullied, made cups of tea and said I have worked bloody hard to lose this weight and I am determined not to spoil it by eating and drinking this unhealthy food. If they can’t accept my preferences then don’t invite me in future. Tough but necessary. Thing is they all drink far too much and are not rational when they have had a few.

We won our bowls match this afternoon, highest scoring rink again – afraid my team won despite my efforts. I had a bad day, over shooting the Jack all the time, just too strong I guess. Kettlebell and 10 pin are not helping my bowling. I did get two points in the last rink so my team were pleased with me in the end.

Thanks Ply, it really was a good day yesterday, I am not usually indulgent unless on holiday. I tend to be on the go all the time. It’s why I started Yoga thirty years ago, I needed organised downtime. It is essential to my positive outlook and calm disposition. I also find it leads me to creative thoughts and helps me with problem solving.

Just found out another friend has divorced after 30 years of marriage, us ladies are rebelling it seems.

Feed day tomorrow, yum, butternut squash and chicken teriyaki made today in readiness, smell was incredible, fasting really difficult when you are cooking but I held on and had some homemade pea soup, huge bowl full.

SAMM, you are being very mysterious with your secret menu, enjoy it.
I skipped for 1 minute and 40 seconds, not bad for me, breathing hard after that. I
    will try again next sat.

Must get some shut eye now, very tired

I’m going to make a menu on carb minimum , where it’s mostly high density vegetable skins in a hummus.

And go for 3 weeks on protien and fats to see. How it effects my sugars and weight. Not a typical ADF , if , or 5:2

But I want to see how it works .
Just like cutting out the soda , replacing with hydration and anti oxidant fluids.
I’ll try to cut carbs except for nutrition. Like red peppers, mushrooms, red beans, blue berries, apricots, and Broccoli.

    Hi SAMM,
I have been doing this for some while hence ‘zero noodles’ plus lots of stir fry with peppers, mushrooms, courgette, onions, carrots etc. very filling. It also means I can have larger portions of protein usually prawns, fresh fish or eggs. Refined sugar is non existent in my diet and I don’t buy these products, so not in my cupboards, luckily for me. My treats are nuts of all types and fruit, mainly berries and oranges but occasionally banana and dries fruit or prunes, ensures good health. Don’t forget to take supplements, cover the bases.
I still miss bread and cereal but no longer crave them. If I am out to dinner or at a party may take a slice of French bread ( but only one). I feel amazing, full of vitality with clear skin, shiny hair, supple body. I will warn you that I have had some low energy bouts but that could also be down to long term dieting and full on exercise programme. I am trying to build in a bit more rest time. Of course do not forget water, water, water and more water.

But I do not drink alcohol at all anymore and suspect after six months that I will not go back to it. Having been at a very boosy dinner last night nothing I saw amongst the guests tempts me to drink again. Drunkeness is an unpleasant sight, intelligent and sensible friends turn into ridiculous, judgemental, irresponsible, loud mouthed people in the space of a few hours. Sad really. What is worse is they pity the sober amongst them as if they have a defect. Yet it is them with the sugar addiction which is destroying their livers. I love my friends but I love them more sober. One guy there, a head teacher of a special school, spent the entire evening telling embarrassing stories about his wife, his children and friends, right in front of them. Seriously! When I suggested quietly to him that they might be embarrassed he replied ‘oh they don’t mind, but they did, they were cringing at his public outbursts. This is a person who is a ‘very considerate and caring individual’ when sober. Makes you think doesn’t it?
Obviously not everyone drinks to excess, some manage to stop at a couple of glasses of wine, surely that must be preferable for everyone including their own body.

I think I will choose to spend my free time with my active and sober friends from now on. Oh God I have just remembered that I have another garden drinks party this afternoon. Maybe it will be cancelled as it’s raining heavily here.

I’m right there with you on drinking alcohol. I’ve played the fool too often. But from a health stand point it’s the combination of hangover and NSAID that broke my need for it. Made a decision not to use tablets for headaches due to drinking. After a blood test for insurance , I saw a doctor and asked about the test result. Went for more blood work. The doctor said if she were in my shoes she wouldn’t have anything with alcohol in it not even cough syrup. That was in 2000. My life is on a better path. Im just one of those that doesn’t thrive with constant drinking. Got in many fights due to it. For a time i drank red wine for health, but after reading all I can. To me the wine is not as healthy as the grape skins themselves.
I’ve drank enough to say I’m an alcoholic , but it’s been 9 years sober for me. Also since 1991 that I smoked cigarettes. However on the 4th of July I puff on cigars in order to light firecrackers and rockets, but not inhale it. It’s something I do enjoy very much going to a cigar dealer and picking out a pack. But that’s just that one day a year.

When I decided to be clean and sober at age 26 , I felt like I was lying to myself by saying I would never drink again. So I started saying I could drink on new years eve Everyother year. Eventually I just didn’t need it on those years either.
    BUT THE FOOD!
Oh have I indulged . I deserve to be obese after all I’ve eaten . And holiday food is just like the alcohol an excuse to just stuff myself.
I do need to learn to eat till no longer hungry instead of until I feel full. If I can do that it won’t matter what’s on the plate. Fasting has helped with eating without needing to feel full.
Learning to eat slowly on feed days. Over twenty minutes if possible.
Fast day tomorrow for me. Taking a can of beans to put in locker in case my lunch will not be enough . At least I can have a half BMR day.

You have been through a lot, SAMM. Congratulations on your continued triumph over your addictions.

    Hi SAMM and Ply,
I have had a very sociable day, both lunch and dinner out. Chose turkey roast lunch without Yorkshire pudding and dessert. This evening I just had a little chicken, a spare rib and a little lobster salad – all good. Now confession time, two very small servings of home made pudding, a strawberry pavlova and banofee. That will probably have wiped out the weeks fasts. No drinking today of course, apart from water of course.
Steps very low (7156), far too much sitting around.
Fasting tomorrow – fish and veg for dinner. Chicken teriyaki in freezer, no chance to eat it as I have not been home much.
SAMM – you have overcome many hurdles – be proud, hopefully this is your last battle. What area of US did you say you lived? I am getting a new American neighbour soon, how exciting? I think they are from San Fran.
Ply – how are the holidays going? Good luck with Pilates this week.

I live within earshot of the indianapolis 500.
yes everyother hurdle didnt need to be jumped 3 times a day. But I realize now the role carbs has played. Im confident ill reach my goals to be strong and healthy

Sounds like another great day , Jojo. My party was good yesterday. Playing lawn games, a little too cold to swim for me. Managed to fast–ate a tiny piece if steak, green salad, and a corn, radicchio, and red onion salad. I drank one diet soda and a lot of water. My cake turned out beautifully!
I think I am going to switch up my fast days. I have been managing ADF okay, but I find that every other day feels like I am focusing on fasting constantly! I also want to coordinate fasting days with my husband, and he is doing Monday and Thursday. So, I am going to do 2 B2B fasts per week, Sun-Mon, and Wed-Thurs. that leaves me with flexible days on Friday and Saturday, which are the 2 nights that my husband does not work. As always, tweaking to make it work!
Pilates is awesome! I have been to 3 classes this week (no class Friday holiday) with three different teachers. Each a little different, but all good. At yesterday’s class, two women near me who were new said that they were glad they could see me during class because I had really good balance and looked like I knew what I was doing! Haha, but it gave me a lift!

    Good morning fast trackers,
Sun shining again today so all is good with the world. Expecting more rain tomorrow, I hope this is not the trend for summer this year.
Not weighing is both scary because you don’t know what damage you have done over the weekend but a relief for the same reason, head buried in the sand.
Whatever works Ply, you know where it’s at, just as SAMM does, we will beat this eating obsession.
I did not count calories this weekend but I am starting today (fasting day)because I think I am having too much. Just don’t feel slimmer this last week, we know our bodies so well by now that we know if it isn’t working. I am determined to lose half a stone per month, that is set in stone.
Loads of compliments again yesterday which helps me focus but then everyone tries to get you to eat more. Interesting how they all say, you can’t possibly lose another 4 stone, you would look awful, yet that is the top range weight for my height. None of my current friends have ever seen me at that weight so they can’t possibly know what I will look like. At the end of the day it’s my decision and I will stop when I am happy but certainly not smaller than a size 12, no ambition to be thin just slim.
Active day planned today starting with dog walk, bowls, ballroom fitness, yoga, then badminton. That should burn 20,000 steps I reckon.
Another day, another pound off, I hope.
Enjoy the sunshine all, be good.

I will suggest you to include protein in diet. High protein diet usually takes time to digest and thus burns a lot of calories during this process. Proteins will help you burn calories in the process of digestion, but also help in enhancing metabolism.

    Hello CarlosCont,
Thanyou for your contribution and in reply I assure you I never go without protein, it’s my favourite food. I eat fish, seafood and eggs mostly but I quite like meat/ poultry occasionally.
I did my classes today and then decided to go shopping, it was great, i bought some clothes in the sales. They were 4 sizes smaller than this time last year, no longer am I forced to use the outsize rails, Hooray, Hooray. Whats more they fit nicely, not too small, I am so happy.
I bumped into a former parent from the nursery at the gym , he did not recognise me, he was speechless. He said I looked absolutely fabulous and 10 years younger. What can I say(It’s all true). i could not stop smiling, wasn’t even wearing makeup.
Off to badminton soon, that should finish off the 20,000 steps.
How is everyone, it’s quiet out there in cyber space. Come back everyone I need you.
Really backlogged on the water today so I need to get cracking before I go out, still on pint three.
Speak tomorrow, good wishes to you all.

Congratulations, Jojo! New clothes and old acquaintances, what a boost!
I am having a lazy fast day today. Puttering around the house. Made a yummy lunch: shredded Swiss chard, spiralized apple noodles, and tuna with a lemon Dijon vinaigrette. Came in at 177 calories. Dinner is Spanish Stuffed Peppers from BBC site. I cut the olive oil by half, so 290 calories. Both full of flavor!

Im trying to restart this week with 4:3.
Already had my 600 cslories . So im looking for the pillows . Was an active day of walking. I two cans bean. I want to adf , the weekends are just problematic. So mon wedn fri.

its hard to believe sometimes jojo but we are getting smaller

    Hi ply and SAMM,
Good to hear from you. Do what suits you, I know the weekends are a bugger. It’s easier for me as I live alone. It would be a bit drastic for you two to leave home(Teehee)
God I am going out because there is only cookery programmes on tv, can’t hack them at all.
I will keep on with ADF for as long as possible but I have a couple of parties to attend in the next two weekends.
    Keep on keeping on

Wow, what a night at badminton, short numbers so we had to play a lot more games, I am dripping with sweat and totally exhausted but I really cracked the 20,000 steps tonight. Great fun evening. Life is good. Everyone said I appear to have lost weight since last week, who knows?, no weighing, but I suspect not after the two puddings yesterday.

    Hi Jojo
It’s fascinating how heightened our awareness of food promotion is on fast days. We are surrounded by it!
Drive down main roads and there are constant food ads. Wait in any waiting room and the magazines are full of food articles or the tv on a cookery show. I was on a plane last week on a fast day and, as I hadoto turn the Kindle off for take off and landing, the only reading matter was the Virgin magazine. Even the Travel section was about the best places to eat!
No wonder so many are obese. PVE

JoJo: huge round of applause for 4 sizes down!!! Wow. You should be so proud of yourself. And to not have people recognize you. That is such a huge accomplishment.

SAMM: you must have developed some amazing willpower to have kicked 3 habits that most people fail on. Food, drink and smoking. You have probably already doubled your life span with those efforts. Congrats to you. I took your advise and watched The Truth About Excercise. Very interesting video. I am so glad science is now looking hard at some of the assumptions they have made for so long. So much taken as truth because it seemed to be common sense. Now finding some things not true at all, others vary so much from person to person. Thanks for posting that link. I have shared it with a few others as well.

Ply, good luck on your two B2Bs a week. That sounds very ambitious. I know you will listen to your body if at any point it is saying “not today thank you….too much”. JoJo worried me a bit when she had her energy crash but sounds like she bounced back from that when she was ready.

Thanks, luvtocook, I will certainly listen to my body’s signals if it doesn’t want to cooperate with my impatient mind! I only have 11 more pounds to lose, so I am finishing strong!

    FEED DAY! Yay!

Wife made meatballs for breakfast lol.
    What a riot!

Thanks Luvtocook , but credit goes to dr .mosely.

I didn’t see much in that video about weight bearing exercise. And suggest compound movements with weight. Like JoJo bowls makes it fun. Visceral fat is the real danger. I found it fascinating how it pin points how to get into it even if I’m obese. Skipping rope is my Hiit . Because I can take it anywhere easily and only costs $10 for a good rope that lasts and lasts.

The second benefit we’ve been discussing and attempting is lymphatic system . The heart pumps the blood, but there is not a pump for the lymph system. There are three very good ways to circulate the lymph system. Jumping rope, jumping jacks, and trampoline.

So jumping rope can double as the Hiit. And the lymph circulation . It triples as the vo2 max. Increases the ability to get less winded. I’ve been working up to it. Now at 7 minutes of jumping rope after many months. Believe it or not , I have no reference , but jumping rope has a fourth and fifth benefit . It helps to lose weight, and provides thermic response . To it pushes metabolism if practiced sighing two hours before or after eating. Not bad for $10.

I’ll say swimming does it slightly better, but it’s hard to find a pool after every meal. Well I don’t jump after every meal, but I do aim to jump after every meal. As ten minutes of jumping burns about 170 calories.
If in fat loss diet. On fast days if I did do this . I mean what is doable. Ten minutes after every meal on my fat attack week once a month. In one week it burn 3570 + any calorie restrictions. It’s my ticket.

Because I’m such a poor cook. I realizing that it’s my cooking skill that I believe is my biggest hurdle. So you inspire me Luvtocook as well as many others on this site.. Making my own food, yet having the shopping delivered makes the transition , from being dependent on processed ready to eat foods , to being infirm control of what’s on my fork. I truly believe that will be the biggest factor in Maintaining my weight once I reach goal In a year from now. Cooking properly! For myself.

    Good morning Fast trackers,
I had a bad night with hip pain, guess I over did the exercise yesterday. I have decided to see a specialist about my hip joint, diagnosed as bursitus. I have put up with it over 10 years, it’s too long, time to get it sorted. My weight is going down and my exercise going up but I don’t want a life on pain killers. I am determined to win this battle too.
    Every action has a reaction.
I have a very busy last two weeks, so much to do! I will be working round the clock. This is usually when I resort to convenience food SAMM and it is never a good thing. Keep cooking fish and veg, it’s a winner.
Purple VE -god you are so right, food advertising is everywhere. I cut my tv viewing for this reason, I love cookery programmes but they make me so hungry.
LUVTCOOK – thanks for worrying about me, no-one else did, my family just said, what do you expect? Well actually with my healthy diet and lifestyle I expect to be energetic. Who knows what the body is up to? I promise I will observe and react, giving it what it needs.
Ply – go girl – 11 lbs only, I am so jealous. I appreciate all the work you have done and want you to know I consider you as a slim baby sister, we have travelled this road together for three months now. We will both get to the end, hopefully we will stay in touch.

    Hi Jojo,

I am not sure how much diagnosis has gone in to your hip issues (sorry if I missed this on an earlier post) but I had the same issue – lots of pain and a GP who insisted it was bursitis and prescribed lots of anti-inflammatories. An osteopath suggested it may be an arthritic hip, and that really made the GP angry (he didn’t like anything ‘alternative’) – eventually he told me that my hip issues were all in my head! So at the point that I could no longer reach my feet and I was in pain all the time and limped everwhere, I cracked and went privately -luckily I had this option via work.

Anyway – long story short – within 10 minutes they diagnosed hip dysplasia, apparently since birth, and after a few attempts at minor hip manipulation operations & physio, I has a total hip replacement in January at the age of 51. Best thing I ever did – I am ‘normal’ and out of pain. 6 months on I am a new woman!

I really think the bursitis diagnosis is a bit of a cop out. Btw the consultant said I did have bursitis, but that it was a symptom of my hip issues!

So I urge you to get it looked at further if you haven’t already – as it sounds to me that there may be something more than just bursitis.

    Wish you luck m’dear

    Cath xx

Hey Jojo, sorry to hear you are in discomfort. I won’t tell you sad stories of the people I know with hop pain, because none of them is as determined as you are, so I’m sure your outcome will be positive!
Great job at badminton last night! You are probably right about overdoing the steps, since you had an especially strenuous session at badminton.
My cooking suggestion would be to set aside a day, maybe when your daughter is there to visit, and make a couple of big batches of delicious and nutritious recipes. You can share the chopping veggies duty, which tends to be the most time-consuming, but is quite pleasant with someone else in the kitchen. Get a bunch of small containers, and freeze meal-sized portions. So nice and easy to be able to come home after a long day and warm up something yummy. Doing a few different meals keeps the variety interesting, and it doesn’t feel like leftovers every night, which I do not enjoy. I tend to do this on Sundays during the school year when I am very busy.
This thread has given me so much inspiration and support. I might have been satisfied with little or no loss for weeks on end if you hadn’t started it! We will surely reach our goals, then on to maintenance together!

    Hello Cathyork,
Thank you so much for your input. I have had X-rays and tests over the years but it was a very, very unpleasant consultant orthopaedic surgeon who diagnosed bursitus, not that it means he was right. He was almost abusive about my weight and told me there was no hope for me as an obese person because I am putting too much pressure on the joints. My range of movement is still good because I have always done yoga, no matter what size. He based his judgement on X-rays and ease of movement. I just did not want to manage it with pills which frankly do not resolve the issues, just mask them plus cause other side effects.
Ply, don’t worry about my ‘hop’ pain, was that a Fraudian slip, if so very appropriate. It’s on my list so it will get sorted. I have had the children gardening nearly all morning. We cut down over grown grasses and bushes, I did the trees. Then the fun part was carting up to the fire pit. The hardest workers were rewarded with a space hopper for their efforts. The school is on a third of an acre so there is lots of garden work but many hands make light work. Probably was not a good idea to do it in white pedal pushers though Ho hum, dirty bum.
I rewarded myself(non fast day) with a ham and cheese omelette, absolute bliss. God I really do appreciate this sort of food when I have it.
Like you I used to bulk cook on Sundays but I am no chef, mostly soup, spaghetti. Bol. Or chilli. These days I only do soup but I have made some corkers. I do not have any free time in the next two weeks, flat out. Three parties to organise, one with three hundred guests(my teaching retirement party).

Hey I just noticed that we are almost at a 1000 posts on this thread, better start thinking up something special Ply, your turn to inspire us. Probably just put your weight loss stats in, that should do it

Going to sleep after long day day that kept getting longer.
Next im going look into the different exercise I could do on fast day and feed day. I do walk alot at work , but want to do more than walk. Jump rope and weight lifting are ok . But I want to follow jojo lead have some fun too.
I like duck pin bowling., but it costs to play, so im looking for something that after equipment costs is frre to do.

JoJo you’ve been doing so well. Perhaps a therapeutic break may be in order at times.
And to start a menu of anti inflammatory foods on fast days?
If it sounds intresting I’ll share.
This is a short read/link to see the over view.
    http://www.naturalantiinflammatory.org/anti-inflammatory-foods.html

Medicines have their place! Very effective, but I suspect we sometimes can cause more inflammation throug our diet as well as putting anti-inflammatory foods in as well.

Serrano pepper is the highest anti inflammatory food. Damn hot. But I love it wilth a little Parmesan Red bean hummus.

    Hi SAMM,
Thank you for the link to inflammation buster foods. I have looked into this subject before and included many of the foods in my current diet. Nothing really seems to help though.
My hip is can play up if I do no exercise or if I do lots, there is no rhyme or reason.
I am not whining, it doesn’t stop me doing anything I want to do, mind you I haven’t tried trekking or climbing yet.
What about joining a badminton class, that is usually quite a reasonable financial commitment and friendly. There is no sport that is free that I know of, it’s a trade off.
I love my sports, they are fun and competitive, keeps you motivated.

I stopped by the gym. A guy needed a spar. He beat on me like we in fight. I dealt with it. Later ad I was leaving his buddies. The ones that wouldnt spar were cracking on me. When I stood up for myself the guy I was fighting with told me to shut up.

ill not be going back. Ill just say I was glad I had on my combat boots today because it got ugly.

I know thats a little off point of this thread. But it has bern one of my goals. To be at fighting strength. Not to be looking for trouble though.

Jojo have you tried eating cherries on a daily basis. I eat dried cherries and blue berries. It seems to help with gout occurances. I could take the pills for it but the cherries just 5 a day 25 calories is less expensive and have nutrition.

I suppose im a little shook up . Will look up the cherry reference later. Also. See if getting super hydrated makes any difference? Perhaps a long soak in theraputic bath. No soap because it can change ph . And bath water does get through the skin. Soap is very acidic.

My complete guess here. Is see if your body ph makes you more sensitve to the chronic condition.
If so daily cherries can keep you on the on one side or the other. Instead of teetering .

of course meds are superior. But like you said there are side effects and only mask.
Glucosimine condrotin. Do anything for you?
Itske it 3 times a week. About once a month

SAMM, sorry to hear about your trouble. It seems you live in a very aggressive area, this would be very unlikely to happen where I live. Violence generally is unusual in the UK unless alcohol is involved at a night club or party. Even muggings and assaults on women are reserved to rough city areas on a Friday or Saturday night.

Thanks for the information, I will add the supplements to my daily vitamin, garlic and kelp pills. I will also start eating cherries with my nut allowance on non fast days, I like them so that will be good.

Although .i cut my steps to 10,000 yesterday I had another bad night of hip pain so I need to do something.

Fasting today – hope everyone has a good day

    Keep away from trouble SAMM.

    Hi everyone,
Fast day cancelled, horrible day full of problems.
Trouble with two sets of parents, a child got an allergic reaction at Forest School and my dog has had a stroke. May be offline for a few days – reeling in shock.
Keep up the good work in my absence.

    Hi jojo

I am so sorry to hear about your poor dog.

If you have access to it (you don’t say whether it is at the vets or not and even if it is; you could still visit and do this simple thing); try to get some Rescue Remedy by Bach onto it.

Even if your dog is not conscious, you can still apply some remedy to it’s lips. Just put some on your finger and then stroke it onto the underside of their lip. You could also put some onto the underside of it’s paws.

This can’t possibly do anything for the serious condition of your dog but it CAN do something for the level of fear they might be experiencing and/or the shock they have experienced.

Try to put the angry parents out of your mind and concentrate on your dog.

    Best Wishes for it’s recovery.

Wishing you your people well JoJo .

Here’s a link good for arthritis foods.

SAMM thank you so much for that link . I have RA and didn’t know these foods helped . I will be putting them on my shopping list for this week and have put the link on my favourites xx

JoJo: keeping you in my thoughts, hoping all works out ok for your dog. My cat had a health crisis last summer and it sent me into a tailspin. Ate badly, gained weight. But all much better now. Hoping your path is easier but with same positive outcome. Also I am concerned about your hip. My mother had a knee replacement when in her 70s and them came to call it her “good knee”. It was a terrific impovement over the pain she was dealing with.

SAMM sorry you are in such a tough neighborhood. Never thought on Indianapolis as a rough city but there are rough patches every where these days. We were almost “neighbors” for a while. I lived in Bloomington in the 70’s for 4 years. Came from Pennsylvania and was not sure I would like the midwest. Ended up loving Indiana. Many fond memories there.

Jojo in my thoughts . All I can say is I can relate. I love my pets too. I lost my dear mean cat after fourteen years and became depressed and needed t o be o anti depressant for a time. My heart goes out to you jojo.

Feed day today. Oatbran with pumpkin. Great for walking.
still reeling from the info perlmutter and simcoeluv has enlightrned me too. There isnt any facts about carbohydrate being an actual require ment . That its a universal fuel.
So im going to take some time and make another 4:3 menu that is a minimum carb for ten days. Badically choosing only the nutririon dense carbs that are from the fat loss food list.

Indianapolis is a great city. However in its 100 year old nieghborhoods . Poor housing lends to gang activity. Especailly where houses are pacjed tightly together. And where larger gangs border other large gangs. Im just in one of those spots. Moving this week after 15 years.

    Good morning fast trackers,
Well all is well after a tough day yesterday, dog much improved with steroid injection and pain killers, they suspect it might have been torn shoulder muscle. Really weird, no idea how this could have happened. I thought the worst because she was walking with her head on one side and dragging one leg. Vet hasn’t ruled out a stroke but if it was she has made a good recovery. She will be checked again this afternoon.
Diet went out of the window yesterday as dealing with a very stressful day, just could not focus. Good news is that I am back on track today and looking forward to a good weekend with my friend who is coming down on Friday.
I cannot wait for the end of term.

    Hi SAMM,
Good luck with the move, I hope it’s a more friendly area.
Thanks for the link, I do eat all those foods, they are main stays of my diet.

    Hi PBB,
Yes I do use RR for days like yesterday, nearly drove me to drink but not quite. Did drive me to sugar though so I am obviously not purged of the need for a quick sugar high when needed. Luckily there was no chocolate around but I did eat some children’s sweets, rubbish of course, but comforting. What am I saying? Teeth rotters.

LUVTCOOK, I know that I need to prepare myself as both my dogs are over 10 years old but you would never know it, they behave like boisterous puppies. Fingers crossed.

I know I must get my hip sorted out soon because it is beginning to effect my knee too. So painful and very frustrating. I would love to improve my yoga postures too, no chance at the moment.

Thanks for all your support guys, my thread family are always there when I need advice.

    jojo,
how are you getting on with 2lb a week since april?

ply whats the link for the bbc site?
“Congratulations, Jojo!
Both full of flavor!”

jojo you do make me laugh!

If you read my post; I was suggesting the RR for your dog! It went without saying that if you had some you would have taken it yourself!

Glad to hear though that your diagnosis was probably wrong; a torn muscle is much more preferable.

Im not posting till we reach 1001 posts.
I dont want to take the privilege.

    Ii think ill go fishin

or get on the scales as a post 1001 post marker

    imm hoping to 224 !

    Hi PBB,
Yes Tilly(dog) got RR too, she loved it!

Hi Davidrob, diet and fasting is going really well, I am averaging 2 lb per week except when I am on medication. When off medication I usually catch up the weight loss. I try to average 7 lb per month minimum, so far so good. Now down 4 stone since this time last year, 3 stone since January, 1 stone 6 3/4 lbs since the beginning of April to the end of June. Not weighing in July, new scheme, hope it works.

SAMM, don’t be daft, you are welcome to be post 1000, you have contributed a great deal to this thread. We rely on your useful links. Mind you if you are packing you may be a little busy. Have you really got time to fish and move?

Off for a meal out, looking fab, starving too.

Oh God, so full. Should definitely not have eaten three courses even if they were healthy options. I have done 15, 748 steps today so earned dinner. Wore my size 18 dress, slimline fit in white, it looked great, everyone loved it. Shame it was raining.
Posh restaurant meal tonight, very expensive – starter- braised Leeks with goats cheese( minuscule portions) and beetroot with rocket and french dressing, followed by Lemon Sole with a potato and (mushrooms from my daughters plate) and a slice of mango with ice cream( one scoop) and caramel disc with nuts.
We were celebrating my daughters first day in employment as a qualified teacher for reception year. Thank god both of my kids are now earning a living, perhaps one day they will support me(though I seriously doubt it).
Doctors tomorrow to get a specialist referral for hip, no more delays, seize the moment.
Hey Ply where are you ? Having a good time I hope?
Hoping you will fill the 1000 th post, coming up very soon (my tomorrow).
Need to get some shut eye now.

P.s. Had to borrow a pair of trousers from my ex( they fitted) can’t believe it, first time in 20 years, he is now only 6 lbs lighter than me(well as at the end of June) god I would have loved to have jumped on the scales but I have made a commitment and plan to stick to monthly weighing now, it’s more normal behaviour. After all it’s not all about the weight( I lie, it bloody well is)

Congrats on nearing the 1000 posts JoJo. 997 and counting!

    Good morning fast trackers,
Next post is 1000, try to make it special.
I slept like a baby last night, no pain keeping me awake. I guess a full stomach is powerful medicine. I had forgotten, it’s been so long. Not that I suffer being hungry often, probably only just before dinner on a fast day.
I thought I would add a list here of changes to my diet that have made losing 2 lb per week a reality, hopefully this will be useful to visitors to this thread. I want everyone to be able to lose weight at a rate because the reward is then equal to the effort. Also you know you are ‘in control’ which is very good for your level of confidence and self esteem. I want all dieters to feel good about themselves and be happy.

This is how I have lost 4 stone( still 4 to go) I estimate I will finish dieting in 8 months when I reach 10 stone, if I am content earlier .i will stop and then begin maintenance. I am 58 and have been obese 30 years.

    1) drink four pints of water per day, one at 7 am, one at 9 am, one at 11 am, last one before 4 pm. ( this will limit night time trips to the loo, try not to disturb your sleep)
    2) take vitamin supplements daily throughout diet.
    3) walk as many steps as you can manage every day, I average 12-15 thousand but I have two dogs to walk and my job is fairly active.
    4) stop drinking alcohol or limit as this will use food calories which you will value, sparkling water is an excellent alternative with ice and lemon.
    5) go to exercise classes( you enjoy) yoga, ballroom fitness in my case.
    6) do an active sport weekly with friendly group e.g. Badminton, lawn bowls and 10 pin bowling – commit to it no matter how bad you are at it, you are moving, trying and will improve over time. Try swing ball, swimming, use a trampet or exercise video three times per week. Even playing darts is keeping you moving in stead of sitting.
    7) do other hobbies you enjoy weekly- choir, reading group, art group, cookery lesson, knitting, model railways, historical society.
    8) make small changes to your diet at least monthly to get results. In my case I limited carbs on fast days, then non fast days over last three months. I cut sugar completely for the duration of the diet( but this was easy for me, I don’t have a passion for it).
    9) become a scientist and nutritionalist – record weight and calories on fitness pal, measurements, initially after each fast day and see what foods work best for you – with me it’s fresh fish, eggs, lots of veg.
    10) eat fruits that provide the maximum health benefits, blueberries, oranges, other berries, grapes – but weigh and count calories on fast and non fast days for at least Six months – become a calorie expert.
    11) most importantly – don’t be negative and don’t make excuses, find a way to succeed through your personal weight loss experience. Taking some medication can effect your weightloss find a way to compensate for water retention. Exercise really helps for this problem. If you health prevents exercise try sitting and bouncing on an exercise ball as much as possible, I do my ironing and watch tv whilst bouncing – adds steps and improves core stability – you can also use a foot bike to pedal whilst sitting.
    12) chat on a thread, if you don’t like the ones available start your own, meet like minded individuals who will support you on this journey to the real you – slim, happy and dynamic – not fat, miserable and pathetic. BE HONEST – are you really happy with your size! If not change it.
    13) don’t settle for slow weight loss, 1 lb per week or month is soul destroying, get tough, make lots if small changes that will help your efforts. I gave up eating breakfast permanently, I now listen to audio books whilst walking instead of laying in bed at night and reading for hours.
    15) when you are aerobically fit enough try hiit exercise, skipping, running up stairs, walking fast, running fast, cycling fast in the first hour if each day, it will burn calories faster for the remainder of the day. More effort but less time needed for exercise. I am not a fan(being asthmatic and not enjoying intense exercise) but keep trying to include it – it’s on my list as a goal.

Good Luck fasters and I wish you happiness and success with your weight loss journey.

My advice is focus on the doable portion of increasing longevity.

Look up wiki preventable deaths .

    Start walking
start eating healty and or fat loss foods
    dont smoke or drink
filter and humidify the air in your home.
    dont eat fungi
Make calorie restriction fasting your life style
make your brain the focus of your nutrition
by making your digestive tract geared for optimal absorbtion.
finally. Learn to drink liquid s that are as close to you plasma ph as pissible do same wirh bath water
