“The other one is an implant that instead of tracking steps ,tracks me via gps.”

I suspect implants of various sorts are going to be more prevalent in the future.

I had thought that implanting the ability to communicate (like a cell phone) would be interesting. I know that research is ongoing on various approaches.

One approach of having an earpiece for accessing information is being developed as an alternative to Google glass. Implants may be reserved for internal health monitoring and healing.

As Jojo alerts you to giving your GPS location, many of us will be tracked in some form in the future, whether we want to or not. Permissions are already given in many apps on our phones. I’m able to track my wife when she is traveling, and there is a reassurance about that.

There is a dark side to tracking via GPS and the light side will continue to make enhancements for the better.

@jip, I have been doing 16:8, i.e., 16 hours between meals, and eat in an 8 hour window. Dinner by 7pm, next meal 11 am. Only thing between is coffee with a small splash of skim milk ( cannot go entirely black) and water. Still waiting for my book!!

@rocky, glad to see you again. Will look forward to seeing your results with the 24 hour fasts. I am doing mine Sun-Mon and Tues-Wed this week. Good luck!

Hi Jojo and company, I cannot keep up with the threads because I had yesterday off.
I must not miss one. LOl
Jojo I have always gone in at the waist, at largest was 47 37 47, it is considered the figure is 12 inches larger bust than waist and hips same as bust. Well I got that bit right in those days. LOL
Jojo scales are still in bathroom but I did not weigh today. Fasting B2B like I said I will weigh Tuesday two in a row of not weighing will be good for me. What is the 235 calorie egg meal please.
Oh well got to go again looking after bowls club duty,
    Be good all. JIP

Hi fast trackers, fasting today, no calories until evening meal, worked this AM, did not get up early enough to walk to work, still have all my walking ahead of me today, beautiful day here.

Started thread in the food section, under recipes, ‘Recipes for the challenge thread’, put one recipe there, now everyone contribute!

Jojo, I hate cooking for just myself, would absolutely not bother to do much. One thing I do to save time is make things in large batches, then we re-heat several times. This works out well with vegetarian dishes, which can be time-consuming to prepare. I don’t like meat, but like spicy and strong flavors from cuisines all around the world. I don’t really dislike my shape that much, just worry about visceral fat and get really tired of clothes not fitting properly. I used to sew for myself, now only knit.

ply, thanks for your suggestion about the tailoring, I’m afraid I live basically in jeans and knit tops, I can go months without putting on a skirt or dress, lol. But I do like to fix up my long hair (tailbone length medium brown hair with a couple of silver streaks) in fancy braids, buns, and ponytails, and love to play with makeup. So I’m not just shlepping around like a slob, I like to look put-together, at least.

SAMM, you are too funny, teasing us with the GPS-tracking implant pedometer!

    JIP, what is Nordic walking?

jojo, I’m impressed with your new challenge to yourself! I’m not averaging 15,000 steps per day yet, that’s for sure! Headed that way, though. Yesterday my son showed me a strength-training exercise for upper body where I lay on my back and use free weights to do motions the equivalent of push-ups, only not having to support my weight, and able to swivel my arms. So not so much strain on neck and traps, but I can exercise all arm muscles and my pecs with one exercise. Using 2-pound weights to start.

Hi Jojo and Amy, I can not ride a bike, i think I will keep on my feet. Walking and trampolining and I am trying Nordic walking tomorrow.
I am going to try something new on Tuesday. 1 egg and 1 very ripe banana mix and cook as an omelette. Sounds nice to my fasting taste buds today. I will let you know if it’s nice. LOL

Hi franfit, Have you ever used a hula-hoop, there’s a new one on the market with magnets in it. That might get your waist smaller. Worth a try they are under £10 in UK. JIP

    Hi Jojo,
have you found out the going rate for a gardener by the hour, give your ex the invoice or swop houses. LOL. JIP

Careful Jojo (stop and smell the roses ( even in your garden ) good luck JIP

Hello all, I have been out in the sunshine all day, looking very brown. Not lazing about of course. Bowls practise followed by a trip to the tip( yesterday’s gardening cuttings, three builders sacks full plus three trugs) then I went for lunch in Sandwich with my ex, we sat in a beautiful pub garden, full of flowers and families enjoying lunch. I had a seafood starter followed by sausage and mash with veg, yummy. Thought I would have a final fish and meat meal before I start my veggie month tomorrow. When I came home I walked the dogs and started work in the garden for an hour or so. Very tired now but happy.

Fasting is definately more effective if you don’t eat any calories for the 24 hour period but it is tough and quite difficult to maintain (I think). I will do it until the end of this month only. It only works if you drink plenty of water and no cal hot drinks like herb tea. I am drinking Fennel at the moment, tastes like liquorice. You could have miso soup as it is very low cal. I think you could also add zero noodles and get away with it if you are feeling hungry. I tried 2.30 to 2.30, leaves you hungry at night, prefer 6 pm to 6 pm.

The recipe is eggs cooked with spices, posted it on some weird recipe thread as listed. I will break my own rule, find it, copy it and post it on here until Fran starts her recipe thread. It’s great for a quick filler when you get in from work, cooked in 5 mins and really tasty. I think I will be making gallons of soup this month, I have found it so effective when breaking a fast, really hits the spot quickly, less digestive issues.

Only 11,288 steps today so I need to get out on another walk later, phew, it’s going to take some effort this 15, 000 commitment. The dogs will waste away.

I will try my first whey drink after my walk which I will try to do fast pace. Let you know! I am not a keen smoothly person especially sweet ones.

Welcome Rockyromero, we meet again. Good to hear from you. I have lost lots since I set my 2lb per week challenge and try all new ideas I hear that might help with the challenge. Drinking 4 pints of water daily and cutting carbs has been very effective for me. Also using zero noodles as a carb substitute has been great. What tips have you to offer?

Jip – go girl go, can’t wait to hear how you get on – don’t you need poles for that type of walking.

SAMM – thank goodness you were joking but frankly in that job it would not have surprised me. Ply is right I have Gps on my phone and ipad. My son had GPS on his stolen mac but it hasn’t been found. I think I am going to steal your big bouncing exercise ball idea for watching telly while you bounce. Makes good sense. From tomorrow I will be stepping 15,000 so I can’t see me ever getting to the level where I qualify for my sofa. Boohoo

Ply- we have something else in common apart from gardening and dressing to impress, my mother lived in a Granny Annex( self contained flat) we built on our house for her. Sadly she went into a home when I couldn’t cope with her Alzheimer’s. She died at 90, ten years ago. They were happy times when she lived in the annex (12 years), quality time with her and a great connection with my children. She really enjoyed her home though, mixing with friends her own age and lots of social activities. She even got a boyfriend, she was very attractive, never looked her age. What on earth is a candle party, do you make or buy candles? Or is it whatever we call a dinner party( posh style) with candles on the table and several courses. Of course you need to do what your mum requests, trust me ?I would love to spend time with my mum. I think of her daily still. So glad you are joining me on the veg month, I think it is a good idea to mix things up a bit, not the body a chance to get used to what is going on. Keep it guessing? What a good way to start Summer today – determined.

Franfit – just had a measure up, figure more hourglass by the minute – bust( no change), waist -8 inches, hips -7 inches. But those white legging are still not really the ticket so wearing white pedal pushers instead. Dramatic loss this last two weeks, don’t know why? Often the case it seems, one minute you see it next it’s gone, like magic!

    Ply,
Fran has set up the thread, very efficient. Here is recipe, but I will post her her thread too.

    Nanny’s eggs.

    4 free range eggs
    1/2 tsp chilli powder
    1/4 tsp turmeric
    2 tablespoons of coriander(fresh best)
    3 spring onions
2 green chill is, de seeded and chopped
    1small onion, peeled and diced
    1 tbsp olive oil

Which all ingredients together and cook like an omelette using oil in the pan. Low heat better result. Prepare 5 mins, cook 5 mins, eat with green salad, serves 2 . 235 cals per portion.

Fran – great we won’t need to drool while we are fasting, good girl.

    @jojo

“What tips have you to offer?”

Many of you already have great tips and ideas, especially all the ideas that the FD books have.

I have re-discovered mirrors for reflecting my image.

It seems obvious to have mirrors. Having mirrors placed strategically to assist in workouts and for fasting is a different angle, so to speak.

I now have mirrors on three of my doors. My bat cave workout area have four mirrors now. I have a mirror by my desk. Further, I have recently placed a video camera with motion detection facing me while I’m working and it follows me whenever I move. This further continually encourages me to look my best.

    So, you asked.

Here may be other ideas for you and others.

    http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/visualization-strategies-and-recipes/

Hi franfit, Nordic walking is using poles something like if you were skiing but walking one leg and arm swinging in time and propelling yourself along does that make sence? Hoping it will do my bat-wings some good too. JIP.

Jojo just to let you know, poles are provided and then you could buy some if you want to do walking on your own. Good night JIP.

    Thanks Rocky,
That’s exactly the sort of tip, well done.
Your mirror idea is good. Actually I only have one long mirror in bedroom and I don’t exercise in there, no room. i don’t have a mirror in the lounge. I think I could organise one though. This is my usual exercise area if not done at the gym. Strangely I always choose a non mirror area deliberately in the gym. Never considered them useful before your thread thought they were just for the vein body builders to admire themselves.
Visualisation – now that will take practise. I have used it in relaxation at the end of a yoga class but that’s only a few minutes.

    You know what?
I’m thinking the very large exercise ball is best for watching tv.
    http://www.fitbie.com/sites/default/files/swissball-op-arm-leg-female.jpg

After reading about the lymphatic circulation of jump rope, jumping jacks, and trampoline. I suspect the sitting on an exercise ball and bouncing up and down on the butt for 2 sets of 15 minutes. Might also circulate the lymphatic system! If you do it once with enough intensity you might agree!

If you ave an exercise ball there are a lot of things you do that much more gentle. My knees ache, not whining. I’m promise! But getting on the floor when I was sedentary was , well I just avoided doing core.
Once I got out the balls it was much easier to get down there and get busy. Especially with push ups. I have an awful rotator cuff. So push ups are out of the question at 265. That was then. But doing push ups and other exercises being aided by the ball. Definitely got me off the couch!

As time went on I did learn a few things. I could do hit. But my stamina was still very poor. If I wanted to keep my heart rate up after jumping rope . In other words to extend the sweating activity. I would get on a ball and bounce On my butt . Music. Help pass the time. Seems very silly when there are so many more effective activities. For muscle tone and core strength for exercise ball. It’s that lymphatic circulation thing that rolls around in my head. Very low impact, easy on the rotator cuff, ankles and knees.

As far a watching tv . Exercise ball is simply superior to the couch. Its easy to find charts and search images on how to use the ball. So I use commercial time to crunch. The six pack… Don’t laugh I know it’s in there! I found mine doing crunches on the exercise ball while watching TV.
    http://s2.hubimg.com/u/5715353_f520.jpg

Not to mention my floors got really really clean.I got out my vacuum with hose one day and just obsessively sucked every last bust bunny. I spent a long time in bed, the floors needed it. I wa simply glad to have a day alone to do it. A friend once told me to enjoy the boredom while it lasts. I did! When space for the multiple balls became an issue with my wife I simply maned up and just deflated them and reinflated them back up by hand. Takes about three minutes.

Further I use my kettle bells as way to weight my feet or hands . Hand and feet weight are a great compliment to stability ball.
I can’t find it now after looking for few minutes , but there is an area of the body that is not legs and arms. Nor is it core. It’s the muscles from the arms and legs that attactch to the core.

Walkers can strengthen those muscles on stability ball on days when it’s not good weather or time .

And then there’s this for yoga walkers
    http://www.fitbie.com/workout/yoga-poses-walkers

    Thanks SAMM,
I agree,I think this is an exercise that any ability can practise, plus it is a cheap and effective tool. Shall we all try it, just for this month, see how it goes?

We have used them at yogalates very effectively for push ups and twists. I am definately thinking this will add steps to the pedometer score too(bit of a cheat but probably strengthens core muscles very effectively)and avoids going out in the rain at night when I have not hit 15,000 steps. I think my ball is stored flat too, I will search for it tomorrow.

I am doing my hit swim tomorrow, with me luck, looking forward to it and ballroom fitness. Missing yoga tomorrow as I have bowls duty. Badminton in the evening though.

    Hi Franfit,
Found this from a link of Samm’s – about the benefits of kettle bells

“When you’re swinging, passing, or flipping the bell, your body intuitively counterbalances the weight,” says Lorna Kleidman, the three-time kettlebell world champion who created this workout. “This teaches your muscles to respond faster in other situations, whether you’re playing tennis or trying not to fall on a slippery surface.” What’s more, the moves in this routine also train multiple muscle groups at once and on every plane of motion, increasing your strength and overall calorie burn.

Could be beneficial for bowls, badminton?

    Rocky and SAMM,

    Mirror mirror on the wall,
Who is the fatest of them all?
Jojo of course, sitting on a ball
Bouncing up and down the hall
Ain’t she got no sense at all?
Don’t she know she just might fall
Have to admit she has some gall!

I bet you’re cute in the mirror.

    Hmm
Not sure it should be the main exercise!
Just that if for some reason we don’t make it to 10,000 steps.
The butt should be on the ball if the tv is on.

I triple dog dare anyone to bounce as hard as they can for ten minutes! 3 times a week.
Not sure about burning calories , but will make you sweat.

Please inform me of the other things you do that make you sweat while watching TV?
    I’d be very Intrested?

Bouncing with you, lol! My ball needs a bit more air, need to find the pump.

Walked to the mall, got some groceries, carried them home; very tired, took nap, went to co-op,

    *posted some more meat-free recipes*

10,000 steps only, enough for today, I carried the groceries and still have to cook dinner.

You guys are a riot, make me smile 🙂

Who, fast and furious posts tonight! I am 10 minutes and 148 steps away from accomplishing my 24-hour fast and 15,000 step day! Thank you Jojo for the challenge…would not have happened without you! I passed the last two hours walking at the mall to get the steps and avoid the fridge!

I wish the candle party was any one of the choices you mentioned, Jojo, but alas, it is simply an updated Tupperware party where one is coerced into buying overpriced candle-like wax melters. I would have much preferred a dinner party or candle-making craft! It was good to spend some time with my mom, though, and I also got to see my brother, sister-in-law, and 9-month old nephew. Food was served, but nothing passed my lips except water! On fast days I don’t even swallow my chewing gum!

Recipes look great on the new thread. Going to try the tikka masala lentils next.

Jojo, will be laughing all evening about your poem. I keep my ball at work and sit on it at my desk instead of a chair. Even without bouncing it is good for posture and core. My students get a big kick out of it. Thanks for the reminder about the benefits, SAMM!

Interesting about mirrors. Rocky! I guess they are friendlier once one has lost weight. Over the last couple of months I have been traveling and staying in hotels which generally have a large mirror right across from the shower. My thought usually is, “no one needs to see that first thing in the morning!” Same reason I avoid the treadmill near the door of the gym…no one needs to be greeted by my ass when they walk in the gym!

Seems it is time for me to pull out the kettlebell as well. This thread brooks no slackers!

@jojo, question on the veg challenge…assuming eggs & dairy included? Also, “granny annex”, my new favorite expression!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lMZ0mQBRw0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Trust me you want to able to do these exercises if you’re a walker.

This one is the one I kept in bed with me always. When I hurt too much to walk.
    I still use it.
It occurred to me that I could do some of these in bed or on a couch. Thought I would share.
Check out this video on YouTube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFk5RpxS6FM&feature=youtube_gdata_player

    I trust you, SAMM!

And if the scale does not cooperate tomorrow, I resolve to eat nothing but half a Brazil nut and orange pith!!

    @jojo58

    “Mirror mirror on the wall,”

I haven’t spoken to my mirrors.

The reflections are stern warnings of accountability for me.

Bless you ply Im hoping you do well.
    The true reward is trying.

Only eat orange pith if you like orange pith. 5:2 is so much better , than other plans because of the flexibility to choose what you enjoy so that it’s doable.

    Good luck everyone!

    Good morning FT’s,
Ply – yes definately include dairy but watch carb levels in beans. Actually that might not be the only thing you will need to watch if you are eating beans. Be careful where you ‘fluff’ polite term for ‘fart’ especially in the classroom, the embarrassment could stay with you for years. We had a teacher nick named Fartypants, also a vegetarian. Although I honestly believe bread and butter is more of a culprit.
This thread is getting very busy, it’s great, so upbeat and fun.
Well done everyone for your efforts

SAMM- I am as you say very ‘cute’ for my age, but I assure you I will not be sharing any sweating stories, we English do not kiss and tell especially about perspiration, what ever next? Please remember I am a school teacher, very prim and proper.
Rocky- god I talk out loud to inanimate objects, myself, the dog, spiders – anything. Madness or loneliness, or just plain talk too much(ness).

Ply- life is too short for Tupperware party’s, even for your mum and sister.we need to talk. Now I am helping at a Garden Party for Charity on Sunday. There will be lunches and cream teas and tours of a truly beautiful garden. This is a nationwide scheme where private individuals open their gardens for two days per year to raise funds for their favourite charity. Shame about the candles, I had a vision of you dipping candles until your heart was content. Maybe we should start a craft party craze? You are brave sitting on your ball at school, it’s a wonder they little blighters don’t puncture it?
Seems we are both adding to each other’s vocabulary. It’s great fun.

Who else is game to write a limerick? Laughing makes you slim you know!

Drumroll, pleAse…..finalLy down 1.1 on the scales. Drop since Friday, looking for just a teeny 1.6 to reach 25 pounds lost! Off to the gym, have a great day,, everyone!

    Ply,
Congrats, you have worked very hard. I have a busy day planned, Monday always full on. Off to ballroom fitness now, then swim, then bowls, then badminton.

Now seriously, what can we do to save time?

E.g. Stop dusting, ironing, cleaning unseen rooms until we need them, washing up instead of using the dishwasher every few days, week(live alone remember).

I don’t know about you lot but my active lifestyle is turning me into a slob, not much is getting done at my flat( well apart from a weekly hoover( absolutely necessary with two dogs)

    Ideas please

    Happy bouncing all

Warning to all – on 24 hour no cal fast I am exceeding calorie level both before and after it by at least 300 cals(500 does not do it for me) Good news is I am still losing weight, mystery. Why ? Anyone else found this?
I was so good at sticking to 500 cals with 3 meal day fasting. Is it a slippery slope or a life saver?

I think with intermittent fasting it’s also important to not strain yourself in the gym. Unless, of course, you are trying to reach a fitness goal (different story). I just stick to intermittent fasting and count my macronutrient intake (using Excel or Exotio – http://www.exotio.com/). With that, you should be able to lose 1kg (~2.5lbs) per week with no issues!

    Good morning, fast trackers!

Yesterday evening I had a strange new experience. After eating my 500-calorie dinner (after fasting all day), very similar to one I’ve eaten a couple of times before, I felt very hungry. So hungry that I put a tablespoon of cream on my strawberries for satiety. It did no good. I was still ravenous. This wore off by 3 AM. Now I am ravenous again *after* eating a breakfast which I will refrain from describing for the benefit of anyone fasting today. My opinion is that this (in addition to my ribs showing) is another sign that I have lost enough weight, I am not supposed to be as thin as I was in my teens and twenties. Will confirm with my doctor tomorrow, but, at least for now, I will be on the lookout for ways to reduce my middle without losing more weight all over (JIP, I’m remembering your hula-hoop suggestion!). At 117 pounds BMI = 20.1, tentative plan is to maintain within 2 pounds of that either direction (BMI 19.7-20.4). Maybe really shouldn’t be a lower BMI at my age unless it comes from increased fitness. All the various ‘frame size’ calculators based on wrist or elbow circumference and height put me at medium or large frame, not small (although I have some difficulty believing this). Body fat calculators put me at <20%, which I know is somewhat off, since I carry most of my fat above the hips, but, still. So I feel a little deflated at not going to at least 115 pounds, but this is what I really think is best for me at this time. At least I can say “I lost 40 pounds in 40 weeks”. That’s pretty darned good in my book! Since maintenance is at least as challenging as losing, will stick around if you all can put up with me.

Better get ready for work — more later 🙂

@jojo, you might have more ease sticking to the 500 calorie limit with the veg idea, since you can have such a HUGE portion when the more calorie-dense foods are excluded.

@franfit, you are probably right that your body is trying to tell you something! It will be interesting to see what your doctor tells you. And, yes, pretty darned good, fabulous even, on what you have accomplished thus far!

Jojo, you have the most determination of anyone I know, your list is endless.
I did my Nordic walking today and enjoyed it, you would be surprised how different it is walking holding the poles in the right position and swing the correct arm, it’s usually a 5 week training believe it or not and I was told two weeks should do it for me. Top of the class. LOL
Bowling later, my turn to take the car tonight. It’s at the top of a valley. Home about 9pm. I will not be eating to night so having something now. I am hoping for big things tomorrow. Here I go again why don’t I keep my big mouth shut. LOL
    Happy fasting all JIP

Fingers and toes crossed for you, JIP! Probably a good idea to switch up the exercise; Nordic walking sound like fun!

    Weekly tweaks:

    1. Sitting on my exercise ball as I type, bounce for 3 minutes when I sit down on it, provided I am alone! (Thanks, SAMM and Jojo!)

    2. My classroom is on the second floor of a three-story building. Every time I leave the classroom—to teach elsewhere, lunch duty, fill my water bottle, make copies, use the ladie’s room (lots of times considering 4-5 pints of water daily), etc, I am running up the stairs to the third floor, walking across the building and down the stairs to the first floor, across again, and running up the stairs back to my room or other destination. Got to meet Jojo’s 15,000 step challenge somehow!

    3. I am also going to eat a few more calories on non-fast days. Counterintuitive, but when I consider my sticking to 1200-1500 calories per day and the calories burned through exercise, I was often not meeting my BMR. Some nuts and a little extra olive oil on salad should do the trick.

    Happy fasting, everyone!

    Welcome Lambros,
Apologies but I do not know about macro-nutrients but I will look into it. The link was not too helpful, don’t really want to register, I get enough emails thanks. Sounds interesting though. I have never found it easy to lose 2 lb per week through exercise and I am very active. So cutting calories is the only answer for me. Can you recommend any other research sites for macro- nutrients?

Franfit, I too am finding that my body is telling me to eat more this last week, I am certainly no where near my goal. Perhaps it’s the season change to summer. Whatever happens please stay with us on this thread. We need to know how you handle maintenance.

SAMM – how are things on the diabetes front? Thanks for you good wishes. I will be catching up on you vis a vis stepping out soon.

Ply, sounds like you are doing 20000 steps. I am on 12,258 so far but I have three hours of badminton tonight yet, should mange my goal easily. Ballroom fitness used 6,500 steps in an hour this morning, in my case usually wrong steps(teehee)

Ok so my family and friends are not happy about me switching to vegetarian diet, why? Because last time I did it I got skin problems because I wasn’t eating enough protein. I will make sure I do this time by recording on fitness pal.

The reason I made this decision :-

    A) sick of my flat stinking of cooked fish
    B) I listed my greatest temptation foods, most are meat and high calorie.
    C) as Ply states, you get more for your calories and my body is telling me it needs more at the moment.

Jip, that Nordic walking sounds great, where do you go? Woodland, mountains? Please let the scales be kind tomorrow but I really think you should try a non weight watchers set before you go. Thinking of you, I will check your progress at lunchtime at work. I did admin duty this afternoon plus a quick roll up. Still working on my backhand. Hey do you ever travel to Kent to play? We could compete some day, how cool would that be? We seem to get tours from all over the country. You could suggest it? After all we are going to Torremolinos to play in October.

Ply, I am with you about upping non fast days now, you need to prepare for maintenance which is just around the corner for you

Franfit – 40 weeks and 40 lbs is brilliant. I hit 22 weeks tomorrow, 32 lbs on 5 : 2, plus 15 pounds previously so total 47 lbs. this is the first time in my life I have lost more than 3 stone. It’s really sad that having done that I am still so far from goal. 61 1/2 lbs to go – it’s like a huge mountain of blubber which seems insurmountable. It is for this reason that I am keen to loose 2 lb per week minimum. I think the FBD may help me achieve this. But I cannot give up, my health depends upon it, my life depends upon it.

Just noticed that we are nearly up to 500 posts on this thread in just over one month, incredible. Who will do the 500 th? Please make it special !

jojo, your weight loss achievements are truly awesome 🙂 And thank you for the compliments!

Macronutrients are protein, fat, and carbohydrates — you already know about them.

Many people feel less filled up on vegetarian food even though they can eat a larger quantity. (I have been an ovo-lacto vegetarian who eats fish occasionally for 43 years.) The issue is that the larger quantity usually comes from carbs. So you have to be a bit careful about what kind of carbs. For example, I could eat white rice or white bread every waking moment and still not feel full. Skin problems can also come from insufficient fat. I avoid non-fat dairy. Some saturated fat from dairy or coconuts is necessary for cell membrane repair, especially in the vital glial cells in the brain, and for satiety. Fat is also needed for absorbing minerals and fat-soluble vitamins from the intestine. Even in a 300-calorie fish or egg based dinner I would usually use 2 teaspoons of olive, peanut, or coconut oil. For myself, I prefer to have regulated portions of high-temptation foods on my non-fasting days. But that doesn’t work for everyone.

There are several reasons why I think I should not lose more weight at this point. For one, if you look at me, it’s hard to believe that I would still look good if I lost an additional 10 pounds. Or even 5. Especially if any of it came off my neck or rib cage. Which some of it would. For another, an always naturally-thin acquaintance who I trust (not one who would just be jealous if I got skinnier than her) spontaneously told me I’ve lost enough. For a third, members of the Zumba Gold class I went to, in trying to describe me to someone I know, said I was ‘her sister’s carer who is very thin’ rather than the only one of the bunch who is Caucasian, or the one with the really long hair, either of which would seem more obvious to me. At this point I feel like my health would be better served by focussing on gradually, as I can, increasing fitness, rather than losing more pounds. Of course it would be good to get my body fat % measured and maybe check a couple of blood tests after a few weeks of maintenance. Just to be sure.

For maintenance I think I’ll start by scaling back from the 4:3 I’ve done the past two weeks to 5:2, keeping the non-fasting days pretty much the same (I haven’t been counting calories, just being mindful and careful). See what happens with that for a couple of weeks. Then decide what to do next. I think my maintenance window will be 115-119 pounds. But will talk to my doc tomorrow before I absolutely commit myself.

Too tired to look anything up. Just glad that you are all doing well!

I saw a doctor on the news said you can burn 80 calories by eating 8oz of ice?
I’ve heard something like this before. 80 calories isnt much even if it were pure fat calories burned.
    Let’s see 80x 104.
Hmmm. Almost 3lbs a year buy eating 8 oz of ice on fast day. Interesting ?

    SAMM
Is this another one of your jokes?
Who wants to eat ice? Not me! Where is the fun in that? For your information, I am not eating pith either. We need to enjoy our food, remember

Just finished badminton, uses surprisingly few steps actually just scraped over my 15,000 by 77. However I did win 4 out of 5 games tonight. Could not have done that a year ago.

Really going to have to consider tennis, that court is much bigger, sure it would use loads of steps.

Had Aubergine madras for dinner, not a winner, squishy texture and very, very hot, lips still burning an hour later. swapped basmati rice for zero noodles – 270 cals. Now on 24 hour fast no cal till dinner tomorrow. Seem to have been non stop eating for the last three days, not good. Haven’t exceeded 1200 but I think the contrast between fast and feast days are really hitting home. I won’t post recipe unless requested by someone.

Spend my TV hour cleaning flat, felt guilty about mess. Looks lush now.

Fran I would kill to hear so one describe me as the thin one – bliss.
One of my badminton buddies asked what my weight goal is, when I told her 10 stone, she was shocked, she said that’s far too low, you will look terrible. She said I weigh more than that, well frankly she also looks overweight, especially hips and thighs, she is also much shorter than me. I said I will stop when I feel I look good, no problem if that is 11 stone but current goal 10 stone. Maybe we need opinions from people who didn’t know us when we were big? Or professionals?

Tomorrow nights meal is Piperade – mainly peppers, tomatoes and eggs 243 cals, I will probably double it up, why not, live it up a bit?

Good night friends, happy fasting, sleep well

    Franfit,
have you had the fast beach diet book? It says that citrus fruit is good for reducing the waist, and also I read somewhere that kiwi fruit has 6 times the amount of vit C as an orange. I will keep reading.
After my Nordic walking today and my bowling to night and 17k steps I should sleep tonight. good night all, keep the fast. LOL. JIP

JIP, I’m glad citrus reduces the waist, I’ve been eating oranges and grapefruit daily all winter, lol! Just switched over to fresh local strawberries in the past two weeks. Nordic walking sounds like fun. I wonder if anyone around here does it.

jojo, everyone will tell you that you will look terrible if you weigh less than they do, lol. Yes, I think it helps to get opinions from someone who knew us when we were lighter and/or professionals. Thirty years ago I really did look good 10-12 pounds lighter than I am now, but I no longer believe that I would look good at that weight now. Back then my ribs were not showing even though I was lighter. Gravity has its effects. I did qualify my original goal of getting back to my baseline weight with “depending on how I look and feel when I get there”, and I still think that makes sense. I mean, I haven’t been this light since the 1980s.

Doesn’t it feel great to be able to do things we couldn’t have done a year, even a few months, ago?

My room is a disaster. My son does most of the rest of the cleaning, since he is not working. I really do need to buckle down and do some work in here. Even that should be a little bit easier than it was a year ago, lol!

Volunteered and worked in AM, worked again in PM, beautiful day, 11,000+ steps, see doc tomorrow.

Good morning Franfit, what are you doing posting at 3am. Are you having trouble sleeping? I had a bad night last night, hip playing up and one of my dogs had a stomach upset. At least he was well trained enough to poop on the kitchen floor instead of the carpet, but he woke me up four times to let him out. I am shattered this morning but I need to go to work.

Seems we all had trouble sleeping last night. My wake up mostly due to my husband! Anyway, happy surprise of another 1/2 pound lost this morning after a non-fast day. Considering B2B today and Wednesday, but may abandon today. Will see how I feel around lunchtime. Have a great day, everyone!

    Hi ply,
All in all, not keen on back to back or 24 hour fast but of the two I find 24 no cal most effective. Well done on your extra 1/2 pound.
Do I really want to know why your husband kept you awake? Just snoring?

All the parents at school noticed my weight loss today so it must really be showing. I am wearing leggings under a long(size18) sleeveless top. My favourite black and white combination.

Bad news three more Mosquito bites on one leg, they seem to like my insect repellent. So irritating as I will need to take anti histamine which definately makes me retain water and sleep far too long. Cream just doesn’t work. Gardening and playing lawn bowls has it’s price I guess.

Getting the children ready for sports day on the beach, crab race, sand castle race, all fun. Should help on the steps front.

    Jojo and co.
    Wonderful news……..
Back from WW Class and off to play bowls any minute now. So I only want applause please, I am back at go’!!!! JIP yipeeeeee.

Good morning fast trackers, sorry to hear about the sleepless nights, I was posting at 11 pm my time, the site seems to time-stamp by GMT rather than local time. Jojo, it sounds like you are soldiering on in spite of no sleep — congratulations on the compliments! 🙂

Did I mention that, around here, it would be possible to get the health department to make the neighbors do something about mosquito control, because of West Nile virus? Is that possible where you live?

JIP, I am thinking of you at WW this AM, all fingers and toes crossed, know you’ve already had your weigh-in, but waiting to hear.

ply, congratulations on another half pound lost.

SAMM, assume you are either working or sleeping. I used to like to chew ice when I was a kid. Haven’t thought of that in years!

My weight is hanging around the 116-117 pound range so far this week, instead of bouncing back up to 118 and 119 like last week, I am happy with that. Next fast day planned for tomorrow. Will have to post recipe for spinach and mushroom frittata that I use.

    JIP, YIPPPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    You go, girl!

The ice thing was on the news, and I can’t the story.
    http://www.livestrong.com/article/353251-does-eating-ice-help-you-lose-weight/

I’ve seen some CRONIES eat frozen fruit instead of fresh.
Hmm perhaps. Real fruit iceein very small portion . As ice cold tends to lower stomach acid production.this could help feel sated longer. For 35 calories. I’m just guessing

Perhaps also for a snack on feed day. Frozen orange wedge.

Here are some natural remedies for Mosquitos instead of deet.
I can’t remember but I think they prefer dark clothing. I believe in a few years a medical skin patch can be warn that will change our breath it’s our exhale gases that alert them to us from a long distance. They smell us before the see us. I’m interested in the catnip!

Factoid The Mosquito is #1 killer of human beings than all other organisms combined. They can travel over 40 miles in 24 hours. They are sensitive to sun is why they are most active at dusk and dawn.

JIP, please also join us for maintenance support on ‘Thank you Dr M for my success!’?

The next post is number 500, everyone, congratulations on some great support going on here!
