  • Evening Cakey Wakey,

I’m often the on the late shift on here!!

I usually fast on Mondays and Wednesdays too, but the great thing is you can always swap if it doesn’t fit with whatever you’re up to. It’s my birthday pretty soon and it’s a Monday so I won’t be fasting that day!!

Sounds like you have a sensible approach to the fasting – depending on you, you might be able to forget about calories on your non fast days, I have always just eaten normally on my non-fast days and not worried about the calories too much. It’s worked for me and is so liberating!! I have just found I don’t seem to want so much on non fast days, so I suppose I have cut my intake without even realising!! Experiment find what works for you, we’re all different.

Hope tomorrow goes well for you Cakey Wakey and anyone else fasting.

Hi LittleDragon & friends, I hope it’s okay if I join your group? I’m on my third month of 5:2 and this thread is really positive and supportive! And there seems to be quite a few people from England in here – I’m from Finland but lived in England for six years to go to uni so it’s like a second home country to me:)

Welcome to all the new joiners, it’s really good to have you on board, the more the merrier! Tiamarie I would love to visit Finland one day, I heard it’s really beautiful, whereabouts in England did you study when you were here?

Cakey Wakey I think that sounds fine, and if you’re able to stick to the 2 fast days, that’s the main thing. I really enjoy yoga but unfortunately the gym I go to only runs classes on a Wednesday night which isn’t too convenient for me. Would prefer it to be on a Friday like yours!

Rallika welcome and I hope this is the start of a long and happy journey on the 5:2 for you. This is the only diet I have managed to stick to long term and I hope to continue with it as long as possible. The health benefits are brilliant, even when the weight loss doesn’t seem to be happening! I am very impressed by you and anyone who can exercise on a fast day as I certainly can’t!

I did back to back Monday and Tuesday so feels nice to be done today but wishing you Wednesday fasters the best of luck!

Hi Hilly66, little dragon, other newbies and everyone else too.
Love love my yoga on a Friday even though I’m hopeless at it. Friday is such a good night as by 8.30 all the stresses of the working week have evaporated and I can enjoy the weekend.
I’m hoping too that in due course I’ll understand my normal calorie intake on the non fast days and won’t need to count but thought that in the early days I should just keep an eye on it. I tried to do this last year after reading the book and think I wasn’t watching those days. My fitness pal is great but some huge variations in calories.
Hope everyone having a good day.
    CW

LittleDragon, I was in Luton, Bedfordshire for three years, then went up North to York and Manchester. Really great times and I definitely wouldn’t rule out a move back to England one day. Finland is nice in the summer and it’s starting to be more spring-y now which is lovely after the long, dark days of winter. But I don’t think winter has given up yet:)

An eating day today, gearing up for a fast tomorrow. I don’t think I have lost a lot of weight during this (hate scales so I didn’t weigh myself when I started) but have lost inches definitely – all pants are loose and my mother is telling me to start eating. I told her that I do eat, five days a week!

    Evening everybody,

welcome Tiamarie great to have you joining us

I have a Finnish friend already so was lucky enough to visit her last summer with my son. Absolutely loved Finland, would love to go again, who knows later this year!

Just had my evening meal, so think I’ll make it through my fast day. Have had another Skinnylicious Soup. Today’s one was called Starry Thai Sky and was 192 calories for the entire pot. For those of you new to this tread, I’ve been really cold these past few months on a fast day, so have been a bit lazy and buying these soups because they’re delicious low calorie, very filling and warm me up! There’s all sorts of flavours; they were stocking them in ASDA but seem to have disappeared but are still available in Tesco.

Glad my fasts are over for the week – anyone fasting tomorrow?

    x

I agree with the soup and feeling really cold. I had a lovely minted pea soup on my last fast day and it was really low cal too. I heat it so it’s scalding hot and just sip it, it’s lasts for ages then, whereas if it just warm then I eat it too quick.

That’s one of my top tips. Have you food piping hot to slow you down and savour your good. But don’t burn your mouth.

Just finished my tea and kept within my 500 cals today. So off for a bath to warm my cold bones up.

    CW

That’s cool Hilly66! Did you go to Helsinki or somewhere else too? I live in the southeast on what’s known as our Lake District.

I’m fasting tomorrow, aiming to get in 24 calorie-free hours. I’m really cold on fast days as well, which is probably my biggest problem – I can deal with the little hunger coming and going but I hate feeling so cold. If it gets really bad then I have a coffee or something else hot to drink, that really helps like CakeyWakey said.

Hi Tiamarie we stayed at Porvor(sorry about the spelling! ) about 1/2 an hour from Helsinki. Sneaked a day in Estonia too 🙂

Can you sneak in the sauna to get warm?

Hot Drinks work forme too But Do Tend To Be A lot Then! ! Sorry about the random capitals – my crazy phone!

    X

    good morning all,
hope you have a good start today! I am struggling a little bit with sleeplessness, I go to bed really early and wake up at 4 am, wide awake. I think I have read somewhere this might be one of the ”side effects” of my body adjusting to this new way of eating.
Hilly66 I am fasting today but I must say I find it less and less difficult each time. I am really cold in the office in the mornings but it might be because I cycle to work every day and as soon as I cool off after my ride, I am freezing.

Measured myself today. Lost 1.5 inch from my waist already, well pleased!!!

Oh dear! what has gone wrong this week? Weighed myself today after end of fourth week and have gained 1/4lb. Yuck! My measurements haven’t changed either. After four months of the bad virus that was going around, I really thought I was getting over it. Went shopping and very kind young man sneezed all over me, spent yesterday in bed. hardly ate a thing all day, then terrible nights sleep (waking every hour) Not hungry again today but had a light breakfast and vege soup for lunch. might just make this a fast day too as I really don’t feel like anything. So disappointed but will keep on with it and hope to shake this cold/virus soon. On the bright side OH has now shed 6lbs in 4 weeks and is delighted.

Phew!!! Half term has finally arrived! Thank God!

I stayed the same this week – Boo!! Had a bit of a melt down yesterday caused by a guy!! How dumb am I, still the icecream with chocolate biscuit hit the spot and I woke up feeling terrible; my body obviously doesn’t like too much over indulgence anymore!!

1/4 lb isn’t much 3rd time lucky – hopefully it will start to show soon and that you feel better.

    Hope everyone else is ok.

    xxx

Had a much better night but still have woozy head and sore throat. Didn’t eat much yesterday and the scales show this morning I have lost the 1/4lb I put on last week. Will try to stay within my calorie allowance this week and decided to weigh myself once a week on Fridays, otherwise I just get too down and fed up. Realised I am doing the old obsession thing again. I just have to give it time. Sun is shining in Bonnie Scotland this morning so will go for a walk later and get some sea air. Hope everyone is well and avoiding this horrible bug. Have a good weekend.

No weight loss for me either, I keep going up and down within the same 0,5 kg but measurements are getting smaller so that’s positive. I treated myself to chocolate last night (Friday night dinners are a bit of a “cheat meal” for me and of course these things probably slow down weight loss but heck, life is for living!)

Third time lucky, sun and sea air sound so lovely! We’re getting more snow, again. So ready for winter to be over…

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

    Happy Valentines day everyone!!

Must be something in the air we’re all staying the same!! Hope you have had more success Little D. Glad you’re starting to feel a bit more human 3rd Time Lucky – I have been ill since fasting back in November but it does seem that I don’t get ill so often, another pleasant benefit.

Good to hear you’re shrinking Tiamarie and Rallika so worth doing as the scales can be sooo cruel.

I have been shopping for clothes!! Have bought a new skater skirt and top – very exciting!! Think I may be a bit broke this year, as now have hardly anything that fits!!

No valentines for me, so bought a new lipstick instead 🙂

    x

Hello all, hope we all had a nice weekend.

Hilly what a lovely feeling that none of your clothes fit! I think you definitely need to treat yourself to a shopping spree in the near future!

Tiamarie staying the same is better than gaining! It’s definitely important to treat yourself every now and again, I tend to fast Monday and Wed, be good on Tuesday and Thursday, and then eat more liberally on Friday Saturday and Sunday. I will always try and do exercise about 3 times a week to balance it all out and generally I see a downward shift.

Week before last, I was down to 10.7 but then crept back up to 10.8 the next day. Then last week the scale was wavering between 10.6 and 7 so there may have been a slight decrease. Not too worried though and I will try not to get too hung up on numbers as I think I can feel my clothes fitting better. On the weekend, I wore a top that I’d bought in the summer when I was about 10.4-10.6 and it fitted quite well at the time. Then about a month ago, I tried it on and it was really tight around my arms and chest. I wore it again on Saturday and whilst it was a little tight, it was definitely wearable, so there must be some progress. I am also getting fitter and stronger and focussing on fitness and strength.

Fasting today and Wednesday. Got dinners out planned for Tuesday and Thursday and Friday which will be interesting to see if there’s any downward movement on the scale.

Anyone else fasting today? Sticking to my coffee for lunch and then I’ll probably have am omelette for dinner.

Fasting too little Different. Have just watched my two eat their McDonald’s!! But doing okay.

Bought some more and save meals (3 for £8) to help half term week is hard!!

    X

Hilly you are a strong woman for not giving in whilst watching others eating McDonalds, just the smell of it is enough to drive me crazy on a fast day.

Not too long til I can get home. I think it’ll be an omelette for me tonight xx

Oh well, couldn’t wait till Friday to weigh myself so weighed in this morning (told you I was obsessed!) Delighted to say the scales showed a loss of 1 .1/4lb down to 10 stone 6 lbs. Yeh!! That’s bang on losing 1 lb per week overall albeit up and down a bit. My trousers do feel a bit looser especially around the thighs, but will measure on Friday. At the doc again today to try and knock this virus on the head, lots of blood taken for various tests to check my immune system. Anyone got any ideas to boost it (preferably natural) I am taking, Zinc, Vit C, Vit D3 and of course lots of fresh air and fruit & veg. So fed up of not feeling well this has been going on since October! Don’t sleep well either. Help! Hope everyone survived the weekend, ready for week 5.

    Morning all

Well done Third Time Lucky. It’s great to see that you’re seeing results both on and off the scales! Keep us updated on your progress. Sorry to hear you’ve not been well – I always take magnesium and echinacea, but I think that’s a natural remedy for colds. I also swear by lemon and manuka honey (active ingredient 10+ is best) which helps keep illness at bay.

I weighed this morning (despite saying I’d stay off the scales) and I’m back down to 10.7 which I’m okay with. As yet, I don’t think I lost anything last week, maybe just under a pound, so would be nice to see some downward shift this week. I went for an early morning run today, which was difficult as was feeling quite unwell during it, but managed the fastest run I’ve done in a while which was a surprise.

Fasting tomorrow. Good luck to any Tuesday fasters.

    Evening everyone,

has been a day of socialising and food today, so am looking forward to my fast day tomorrow to redress the balance!

Sneaked on the scales this morning because I fasted and did a long run in the rain (and the dark, forgot there are not lights at Epsom Downs! Interesting for a while staggering down the path blinded by headlights!!) so was hoping to see some movement!! The scales teased me, looked as they were going to go through a stone and then changed their mind to remain the same!! Teach me for cheating!!

Third time lucky great to hear things are starting to move and sounds like you are on a roll too Little Dragon.

Right time for me to sleep, night all

    x

    Morning all.

Woke up quite hungry and sad to be fasting today but hoping today will fly by and I’ll be at home enjoy a nice dinner before I know it. Also feeling pretty tired, as didn’t sleep at all last night and woke up with very sore shoulders.

Haven’t weighed myself since earlier this week but will probably weigh tomorrow or Friday.

Hilly well done on your long run, especially in the cold, dark and rain – I’m quite the fan of a long run these days and it’s really nice to be getting back into exercising regularly. Sounds like quite a terrifying run though! Nice to see you posting more regularly on here now that it’s half term!

    How’s everyone else doing?

Good luck to anyone else who is also fasting today x

Hi Little D I’m starving am at my parent’s for a cinema afternoon with kids! Have watched them chomp through kitkats followed by kitkat cornettos and now my Mum is cooking big fat juicy bergers!!! Aghhhh!

    Feed me now!

Hope every one else’s fast is a little easier! !

    Hi hilly

I hope you managed to stay strong despite all the delicious food around you! Responding on my phone which I hate doing. I am surprised they haven’t developed an app which makes the website easier to use on mobiles

Today started off hard. Was very hungry this morning but then it passed around 10am maybe about 11 and I was fine for the rest of the day. It always feels impossible til it’s done as they say! Going to have some salmon for dinner which I am looking forward to.

Hope everyone has had a successful fasting say. Roll on the weekend! xx

Just off to bed – been one of my hardest fasting days in a long time! Did go slightly over because I ate two slices of roast beef!! But I’ll take it.

Think I’m going to struggle to sleep am ravenous, can’t wait for breakfast!!

Going to see the Lion King tomorrow, only slight downer is I have to go with my ex husband but my two are looking forward to it and lunch out in London not all bad.

Have a date on Friday – oh God what to wear!! It’s a second date, wore something new when we met for coffee on Saturday, this time it’s dinner, so little fits!!

Good luck to all my Thursday fasting friends.

    x

*creeps in from out of the shadows*

Good morning all! I’ve been keeping up to date with this thread for a while now, so it’s about time I introduced myself! And LittleDragon did say I could pop in and say hello!

Beetle, 29 years old, constant craving, cake munching vegetarian.

Started 5:2 on 6th(?) January, and have lost 11lb so far. I only weigh myself once a month, so I won’t know of any further changes in weight until 10th March.

Ideally I would like to lose another 16lbs in total. This would bring me down to a weight I haven’t seen since I was about 12 years old!

Best of luck to anyone fasting today (not that you need it!).

    Morning everyone – just about!

Hilly hope your day out in London isn’t as bad as you expect – Lion King is a great show and it’ll be nice to be out for the day – I don’t see any rain yet! hope your second date goes well, and what a lovely feeling to be too skinny for everything you own at the moment! Let us know how the date goes.

Click Beetle – nice to have you on board, we are a friendly bunch and there’s lots of encouragement to be had on this forum! It sounds like you are doing really well so far. 11 pounds is an incredible start. I hope you see success in March too. I wish I had the willpower not to weigh every day. Unfortunately I do! What is your target weight? My interim target is 9 stone 11 but I’d like to be a comfortable 9 stone something – maybe 9. 7 or something. We will see how it goes – Hilly has had so much success that I’d like to follow suit! I’m taking it a week at a time.

Went on a morning run before work today. I’m still stuck at 10.7 which is frustrating but I have learnt from last year not to give up in the face of a plateau. I’ve averaged a pound loss per week since I started in Jan so I’m happy so far. Might hop on the scale tomorrow and see if there’s been any change.

Started at 11 stone 3 last year. Got down to 10 stone exactly by May, but plateaued, got disheartened and went back up to 10.4-6 then back to 11 stone after Christmas. I am back for take 2 and hope to stick to it better this time.

Hi Little D, thanks for the info – have honey in the house so taking a hot honey lemon drink at night. Next time will try Manuka. Oh well, I guess I knew this weigh in was not going to be a good one. 3/4lb back on, although 1″ off my waist. Out for lunch the other day and lots of carbs, followed by delicious meringue, then pie with puff pastry at night for tea. Why do I sabotage myself after doing so well? I think it’s a case of ‘I’ve done well so I’m going to treat myself’. The thing is I wouldn’t normally eat those things eh??!! OH disappointed too, he’s put 2 lbs back on for the week, although his Tiramisu wouldn’t have helped. Meeting a friend for coffee this morning, so will have to be very strong and bypass the lovely cream cakes. Thinking I might pull in another FD this week to catch up, but will see how the days pan out. Back to the drawing board as the weeks are counting down now to holidays and determined to be down to 10 stone by then. Have a great skinny weekend all.

    Hi Third Time Lucky

Don’t be disheartened, sounds like you are doing well regardless, sometimes you gain, sometimes you lose, don’t forget how much your body will fluctuate. I was also a bit disappointed this morning to see that I haven’t seen a decrease in the scales for 2 weeks now but told myself not to be too upset, I’ve been exercising, doing my fasts properly, making better choices, I’ve also given up chocolate for lent for the first time ever. So hopefully I’ll see a shift soon. As long as the overall picture shows progression, it’s fine. Don’t forget also that there are lots of benefits to be taken from fasting, not just weight loss. So think about that! 🙂

I also had pasta last night for dinner, but balanced it out with a run in the morning, and another run this morning. Still no change on the scale, but that’s okay.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Hi again LittleDragon.

My target weight is somewhere around the 10 stone mark. I’m 5’8″, and quite long-limbed, so that would be a healthy weight for me. I honestly can’t remember the last time I weighed any less than 10.9!

I’m currently 11.1, down from 12 stone at the beginning of the year, and my clothes are starting to fit me again!

I have to resist the urge to weigh myself more often. That has always been my downfall in the past, as my weight does fluctuate considerably throughout the month.
I’m really hoping I see a difference on the scales at my next weigh-in. Even 3-4lbs would be fantastic, as that would bring my total weight-loss to a stone.

Well done on your weight-loss last year, and for getting back into it this year. It’s not an easy thing to do, but hopefully all the lovely people on this thread will provide you (and me!) with enough encouragement and support to go the distance.

I’m seeing other health benefits of this lifestyle, so I really do hope to stick with it.

    Quick check in here,

    been a mad few days!!

Hi Clickbeetle, welcome to our merry gang. This is a great little thread with lots of support and encouragement.

Had a mad few days, very tired now, think a spot of falling asleep watching House is in order.

Fasting Tuesday and Thursday next week as it’s my birthday on Monday.

    x

The way my day panned out yesterday I ended up doing another fast day. Got on the scales this morning and another 1lb gone! down to 10st 5 3/4 now and another 1″ off my waist. What a difference a day makes. Had a fabulous sunny day here in Scotland and took ourselves off to Cambo House in Fife to see the snowdrops. Fantastic. Perfect day for a long walk. Turned my back on scones and cakes and had soused herring salad for lunch, which was delish. Have saved enough cals to enjoy my haggis, neeps and tatties tonight without wittering on about calories. (Going really Scottish today)
Thanks so much everyone for your comments, they help me get through the tough days and out the other end.
Clickbeetle – wow 11lbs off since Jan, that’s great, well done you. Keep up the good work.

Well done Third Time Lucky, feels great when things are going well doesn’t it?

I went for a walk today too to see the ancient tree where the Magna Carta was reputed to have been signed or in the neighbourhood of. Was a beautiful day here too and lots of beautiful snowdrops were out down here too.

Have had a lazy day otherwise, am tired after several active days.

    xxx

    Morning all

Well done Third Time Lucky, sounds like you are doing well. I hope you had a good weekend.

Hilly hope you’re doing well and enjoyed half term.

So I’ve stayed the same for 2 weeks now, which is frustrating but I’m okay with it, as it is an ongoing process. I think my ongoing friend has something answer to for that! I had an indulgent weekend, and had a lot of cheese! But glad to be back on the detox today. Feeling quite hungry and looking forward to my slow cooked healthy beef stew/curry tonight.

    Roll on 5.30!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HILLY! Have a wonderful day and make sure you enjoy all the cake you deserve 🙂 no limiting yourself today! xxx

Helloooooooooooo LD, Hilly et al. Hilly hope you are having a fab birthday. Just thought I would pop in an say hello as I haven’t been around for a while. My birthday is this weekend and I am pleased to say I will be 17 lbs lighter than I was on my birthday last year!! I still have another bit to go but I have not set myself ridiculous targets and have been enjoying life as well! However to give my weight loss a boost I have given up my favourite tipple – wine – until Easter but will have a couple of glasses at the weekend. I am going to go for a run this evening when I get home as it will still be bright hopefully!!

Hope are you all well and have a great week 🙂 x

Helloooo Jfitzy good to hear from you.

An early Happy Birthday to you. How fab are you being 17lbs lighter than you were this time last year!! We’ve missed you.

Have had an oddly quiet birthday (it’s the big 50 next year so will perhaps make up for it then!!). Had an INSET day at school and thought my daughter was going trampoline training up in Berkshire tonight so didn’t arrange anything – now she isn’t going! Doh!
Feels very odd not fasting on a Monday but haven’t gone completely nuts!!

Will be back on the Fast Train tomorrow.

How have my fasting friends fared today?

Keep going Little D, may have to command you to hide those scales soon, they’re holding you back – you know you can do it and you will.

    xxx

Oooo birthdays all round! Send me a piece of cake….. 😉

Fasting day for me today. I went out for a 4 mile walk through the woods this morning. It was ridiculously muddy and slippery (thank goodness for wellies!), and my legs were certainly working hard to keep me upright!

I had a nap midday I was feeling very cold and a little tired. I think the late night chocolates last night messed up my blood sugar levels a little, as I felt quick weak and shakey this afternoon.

I broke my fast at 6.30pm with a yummy stirfry, followed by a banana.

I then went swimming for the first time in 7 years!! I was a bit nervous about getting into the water as I had a very bad experience when I was younger – both calves went into a total cramp whilst swimming in the deep end and I had to be pulled out by the lifeguard!!

Swimming tonight was brilliant. It took me a little while to get used to it, but I was soon back in the swing of things.
I could feel my heart pumping and my muscles working hard. Amazing what your body can do on so few calories!

I’m going for a trip to my favourite garden centre tomorrow. They have a lovely cafe, so I’m going to enjoy a baked potato for lunch and a scone with jam and cream for afternoon tea. Really looking forward to it.

Bedtime for me now. I think I’ll sleep like a log tonight!

Enjoy tomorrow, whatever you’re all planning to do!

    x

Hi everyone and Happy Birthday to those who have had one recently. Another 1/2 lb off today. Only 5lb more to go to target. I’m amazed how quickly the weight is coming off. OH now lost nearly 7lbs in 6 weeks. Clickbeetle – I have been thinking about swimming, haven’t done it for years, but feel I could do a bit more exercise now. I do Pilates and lots of walks, but feel I need to firm up the loose skin that’s beginning to hang a bit. Your comments have given me the push I needed, thanks.
Ended up with a headache again yesterday even though drank lots of herbal tea and water and didn’t sleep well last night, but put some of that down to this virus I still have. At least my blood tests from the doc came back all clear, so now just working on building up my immune system to try and knock this on the head. Been four months now and am fed up with it. Roll on Spring and the warmer weather. Good luck everyone, onwards and downwards!

Happy birthday to JFitzy (hello there old friend, and well done on your continued weight loss, that’s so impressive and must be a great feeling to be 17 whole pounds down on last year!) JF would love to hear from you more, it’s great to be back in contact.

Hilly happy birthday, hope you had a great day, can’t wait to hear all about it. Quiet ones are the best, I think I’ll be doing a low key dinner this year too and keeping it simple. Wishing you health and happiness for the coming year.

Clickbeetle sounds like you are enjoying some time off from work with everything you are doing, I am jealous! I find fasting a bit easier (I think) when I’m working at a desk as it tends to keep me busy. Well done for going for a swim without food, I actually haven’t tried to exercise on a fasting day yet – I tend to fast or exercise. Yesterday I fasted and today I went for a run so it’s one or the other for me.

Third Time Lucky, well done you, sounds like you’re steaming ahead and doing all the right things! I am most impressed. I also suffered with a headache yesterday, I was sure it wasn’t dehydration because I was chugging water and nipping to the toilet every two minutes!

Had a good fast yesterday, held out til dinner and had a healthy beef curry, made with beef stock, spices, onions, veggies, and chopped tomatoes. Had it with Slim Rice and broccoli.

Isn’t weight loss a funny thing? I fasted for 2 weeks, exercised 3/4 times each week and the scale stayed the same. Then I did no exercise over the weekend, ate what I wanted (which involved a lot of cheese) and my weight was down one pound this morning. I’m glad I am moving in the right direction. 6 pounds to go to get me to where I reached last year and then hoping to continue into the 9 stone camp!

Good luck Hilly for your fasting today, you will do great!

Thanks for all the replies ladies – I promise not to be a stranger! I have not been fasting that much more doing low carb but plan to start fasting again soon as I always enjoyed it (strange though it may sound)!!!

Good luck to everybody on their fasts this week.

    xxxx

Hi JF – well done on all your loss, great to have you back. How have you found low carb? Have you been quite strict? I think I would struggle on low carb as I really love pasta, bread, rice, potatoes, and have them on weekends sometimes. I try and keep it low carb in the week days though.

Had a burger and chips for dinner last night, but had gone for a run in the morning and I’m fasting today. It wasn’t even that nice! Oh well. I am fasting today.

Small non-scale victory, desperately needed a new pair of skinny black jeans. Went into Fat Face and tried on a size 12 and size 10. Size 12 were far too big and size 10 fit me much better. Wearing them today, admittedly they are on the tighter side, but I decided on them as it may spur me on to lose some more weight. The size 12 were too big to contemplate. It might be generous sizing but I am pleased. I do have size 12 jeans at home that fit quite snugly too, sizing can be quite arbitrary in different shops I have found.

    Onwards and downwards.

    Hi again all.

Swimming again this morning before work! I never thought I’d be getting up at 7am to go swimming…..

I really surprised myself this morning, as I managed to do 60 laps of breaststroke without a break. Ok, so it was in the deep end which is about half as wide as the main pool, and I certainly wasn’t breaking any world records with my speed, but still!!
Felt really invigorated and ready to start the day!

LittleDragon – yes, I have had a few days off work! Trying to use up my remaining holidays before the new tax year starts.
It’s been lovely just to have some time to myself. Spent hours and hours pottering around the garden centre yesterday, spending more money than I wanted to… But that scone with cream and jam was absolutely delicious! A real treat. That’s what I love about this way of life – no food is a sin!

You run fairly frequently do you? I did couch to 5k last year, and made it all the way to the end of the program, but then stopped. I am determined to restart it this summer, and then hopefully progress onto the next level.
How far do you typically run?

Awesome news about the jeans! You’ll be needing a belt for those size 10s before you know it!

Third Time Lucky – go for it! I was so nervous about getting back into the pool. I went over all the negatives in my head – will I remember how to swim? Will my legs cramp up again? Does my bathing suit look horrible? Will everyone be staring at me? How will I compete with all those toned regular swimmers?
In the end, I got into the changing rooms, noticed all the different shapes and sizes around me and realised that everybody is here for themselves. Nobody gives a damn about what you look like; they just want to swim.
I realised that I could do as much or as little as I felt like; nobody would be keeping tabs on my laps but me!

I’m so glad I got back in the pool! A whole new world of exercise has just opened up for me!

Best wishes to you all, whatever you’re doing today. x

    Hi CB,

I’m very jealous of your time off! Sounds like you’ve been filling your days with lots of lovely things.

Well done on getting back into swimming, I used to train a lot when I was younger and compete in meets, then as a conscious teenager I didn’t enjoy it so much. Then I moved to London and there was a lack of good swimming pools where I live, so I haven’t been a regular swimmer for quite a few years now. I do enjoy it though, it’s very good exercise, a good all over work out for your muscles and it’s very calming. I do like listening to music while I work out though – being alone with my thoughts gets a bit – cabin fever-y! That’s a bit of a drawback for me about swimming. I think once you get over the initial consciousness of “does my belly sag” “my cellulite is out” you just get on with it like everyone else does, so well done for conquering your fear!

I tend to run more than anything else, simply because it’s so easy, and you just pop your trainers on and get going. I tend to run in the mornings before work as it’s the most time efficient way to get a cardio work out in. I run on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings and sometimes either Friday or Saturday morning as well. I do a route near my house which is about 5-6km and it takes me between 30-35 minutes. Running is difficult and it took me a while to build up to being able to run continuously for half an hour. I ran a 10k a few years ago but that’s the farthest (recorded) I have ever run. There was one day I got horribly lost and ran and ran for about an hour and a half but I wasn’t sure of the distance. That was a few years ago though.

I feel like I’ve got over the main hunger bout I normally get in the mornings on fast days. I had a coffee for lunch so feeling alright at the moment but looking forward to the end of the day and tucking into some sushi.

    Hi everyone

and thanks for all the Birthday wishes!

Back to normal and on the slippery slope to 50!! Oh no!! But that said I’m in great shape, so I say bring it on!! 🙂

Fantastic news Little D slipping back into a size 10. Feels good doesn’t it?! Sounds like you have got back into this big time.

Clickbeetle good for you getting back into the swimming – such a great exercise and you’re so right no one worries about what other people look like because they’re too busy worrying about themselves.

3rd Time Lucky sounds like you’re doing fantastically well too. Have you tried having something salty on your fast day, sometimes the headaches can be caused by an electrolytes imbalance and something salt (bovril, miso, oxo cube type things) can help with that. Just a thought!

A slight fail on the fast front for me yesterday! Was at 493 calories but had a small handful of nuts and two chocolate truffles that I was given for my birthday so figure it must have been 6 – 700 ish but hey it was still a low day!

Am a runner too, like you Little D I find it easy to fit in, in my case all I need is my running shoes and a decent bra and off I go. Makes me feel fab, though have struggled to get out on some of these cold dark winter evenings! Somehow I have managed to keep to at least twice a week but usually three times. Started doing a local Saturday morning Parkrun and was over the moon to get my best time so far of 27.16 for 5K. Before 5:2 (though I have run before) never imagined being able to achieve that. Have entered the Worthing Race for Life on June 21st and am looking for a 10K run sometime in April.

Talking of runs, time to go!!

Am fasting tomorrow – anybody with me?

    x

Fast day for me today. Hilly – take on board what you say about salt for headaches. Will try this. I actually love beef Oxo cube as a drink but haven’t had it for years. Why? I ask myself? Clickbeetle – have checked out my local swimming pool and they do a special monthly rate for £20, swimming on four different days, then you get a free month if you sign up to continue. that will take me through March and April, perfect for my holiday starting in May. Tried my swimsuit on yesterday – oh dear -will have to put the towel over me till I get in! Porridge and blueberries for breakfast, then chicken and lentils tonight for dinner. We quite like Mimi’s recipes so might invest in her cookbook for a bit more choice. (I swore when I retired I wouldn’t buy another cookbook – it’s hard when you’re a chef!) Anyway, am off to Pilates so good luck to all you fellow FD’s today.

Third Time Lucky the only way you’ll look silly in a swimming costume is if you look too self conscious of yourself, have some confidence and strut your stuff! Don’t worry what everyone else thinks, you’re there for YOU! Sounds like they have a great deal at your local pool, so no better time than now to get going.

Hilly don’t beat yourself up for going over, doesn’t sound like you’ve done much damage.

Despite being happy about being down to 10.6 earlier this week, it would appear that pound has reappeared and I’m back stuck at 10.7. Been the same for three weeks on the trot now, which is frustrating but I am sticking to my fasts and exercise regime and trying to do the right things so I just have to hope that the scales start reflecting that soon. It’s frustrating but I suppose it’s better than gaining and it has to be said that I do feel better in myself.

    Anyone else experiencing plateau?

Good luck to Hilly and anyone else fasting today.

Good morning all – trying not to be too disappointed – 3/4lb back on! Must have been that lemon meringue pie that did it! No change in measurements either. Hilly – the Oxo drink seemed to work, no headaches yesterday. Slept much better too, that is a real treat for me. OH lost another 1/2lb, so he’s happy. He’s brilliant at supporting me and pretty much eats what I put in front of him. He’s now lost 6.5lbs in 6 weeks. He’s where he wanted to be but has decided he could do with losing a bit more so is continuing with it. We are going to send for the Fast Exercise book. Sounds interesting. Oh well onwards and downwards. Meeting a friend for lunch today so will choose very carefully. Have a great calorie free weekend everyone!

Hi Third Time Lucky – I am also trying hard not to be disappointed, I am the same for a third week running – still stuck at 10.7. Trying to do the right things, have run three times before work this week, doing my fasts properly and nothing. Oh well, will keep plugging on!

    Morning all!

Third Time Lucky – get in that pool and don’t bother covering up with your towel!!
It’s great that you’ve got the support of your husband. I don’t know anybody else who is doing 5:2 (well, apart from all you lovely people!), so I sometimes struggle to get the support of colleagues and family members.
A gain of 3/4lb is nothing to lose sleep over! 3/4lb could be anything, even just a bit of water retention. That’s one of the reasons why I resist weighing myself more than once a month! The most important thing is sticking with it and hopefully reaping the rewards at the next weigh in!

LittleDragon – another way of looking at it as that you’ve successfully maintained your weight for 3 weeks! A lot of people might have thrown the towel in after the first or second week. The weight will come off – it might just take some unknown little trigger to push you over the edge into the next downward drop. 🙂

I had my first +500cal fast day yesterday! Everything was going fine until about 2.30pm…
I’d been emptying and reorganising our work archive room all morning, lugging heavy boxes around and traipsing up and down the corridor! I suddenly realised that I felt very spaced out and a little shaky, and I knew I needed to have something to eat.
I never bring anything to work with me on a fasting day (I don’t eat until 6.30pm), so I had to search around a colleague’s desk for food! Found a peanut brunch bar which seemed to do the trick.
I then had to go shopping after work, which made me very late for having my tea. Unfortunately, whilst waiting for my tea to cook, I succumbed to a few of chocolate coins I found lurking in a drawer! I had another couple afterwards!

All in all it worked out to about 750-800 calories across the whole day. Not a massive amount, but it’s the first time I’ve ever gone over the 500 calorie limit on a fast day. I’m blaming my TOTM for this little slip up! I was obviously in need of a few extra chocolate calories yesterday…

Oh well, today is a new day! I’ve got a delicious menu planned – started with a banana plus a big bowl of porridge, a gorgeous Skinnylicious carrot soup for lunch, lasagne, salad, olives and garlic bread for tea, and a bowl of chocolate weetabix mushed up with warm milk for my evening snack (I love it!).
A colleague has also brought a little chocolate fairy cake for me, so I’ll enjoy that with my afternoon cup of tea. 🙂

Getting out in the garden tomorrow to start preparing for the new season. Then on Sunday I’m going on my first walk with one of the local Ramblers Association groups – a 10.5 mile easy walk through the Lincolnshire countryside. I can’t wait!

I’ve decided to move my weigh-in forward to this Tuesday (1 week early). I’m fully aware that I’ve had one or two slip-ups this month, and I’d like to know if there has been any damage.
If I’ve lost weight, that will give me a boost; if I’ve gained a little, that might give me a kick up the arse! 😀

Best of luck to you all today! x
