  • Hey everyone!
I’m 23 and I’ve decided to start 5:2 tomorrow. My goal is to lose 28lbs/ 2 stone which I’ve put on in the last year.

I currently weigh 11st 12lbs but for years I hovered around the 10st mark which felt like a healthy weight for me.

Strangely, I am exercising more that I ever have at the moment as I’m training for the Edinburgh half marathon in May, do Pilates once a week and have recently started some light weight training with dumbbells in the house.

At first I thought maybe I had just put on a lot of muscle as my legs feel really strong but 2 stone seems a lot and I still have that annoying belly bulge that just will not budge.

So, having never dieted, I thought I’d give 5:2 a go. Reading all the success stories on this site is really motivating me to try it – I can’t believe some people’s results!

Nice to meet you ladies! πŸ™‚

    Hi,

I am 25 and have been doing 5:2 for a year. I didn’t have much weight to lose but just felt as though my weight had been very slowly creeping up for a few years. I LOVE food, cooking, eating out, take away…you name it. I couldn’t get my head around constantly depriving myself and feeling guilty about enjoying what I love so this seemed the best way forward. In the year I have lost a stone which is pretty much what I intended to do and am now happy maintaining my weight. I generally follow 5:2 but as I am a teacher find it difficult to do this in the holidays when eating out becomes a regular thing so I adapt and sometimes only manage 6:1 and then on the run up to going away and squeezing into a bikini I will some times do a week or two of 4:3.

I can honestly say I think I will continue for the rest of my life, give or take the odd week. Fast days are sometimes hard but the thought of being able to enjoy the food I love the next day always gets me through and I maintain a weight I am happy with. I have also noticed lots of health benefits, better skin, more energy, less colds and other general bugs I am normally prone to catching working in a school.

Hope all of you who are new to 5:2 enjoy the results as much as I have!

    Rachael x

@treat89 Wow! Congratulations!! You’re halfway there already, that’s brilliant! πŸ˜€

And wow, so quickly too! How did you do it – are you still doing 4:3 and loads of exercise or…? Nice to hear I’m not the only one to go nuts with the fridge from time to time…

I feel like my progress has slowed down incredibly after an Easter week at my Aunt’s – today I’m doing my second fast this week so hopefully I can kickstart my loss… 23 lbs in 5 weeks would be lovely for me (I’ve got about 50 pounds to lose) but I don’t think it’s possible as I’m halfway into week 4! πŸ˜›
Again – congratulations on 40 pounds!!! Amazing. (Any tips are more than welcome!)

@lj12 Wow, half a stone down!! Congrats πŸ˜€ How much do you want to lose in total? Nice to hear that you’re also feeling the benefits beside weight-loss.
Gosh, I hope you can pull through the placement with ease! Maybe you could just do 6:1 if it gets too tough to do 5:2? How long is the placement?

Weigh-in this morning (I don’t know why; maybe I just enjoy torturing myself?) and I seem to be up almost half a stone since my last weigh-in last week when I was at my lowest. Demotivating. Big time. Gosh. Down in inches – or, well I’ve maintained my loss of inches during a week of temptations and indulgence… so that’s good. Feel like it’s getting harder and harder to lose weight. Have to keep my spirits up!

All the best to everyone! Would be lovely to hear how you’re getting on…
    Alex x

    Hey Alex,
Well done you for resisting temptation. I’m in awe that you maintained inches over Easter! I hoovered up 12 creme eggs, alongside a roast lamb and other terrible bits and bobs… All in one day! Not my finest moment! And I paid for it scales-wise. Oh well. I’ve been on Easter holidays (I’m a teacher) so I found not being so busy really difficult. I’ve not lost anything since the last post. But here’s to a new start!

Try not to be too disheartened. You CAN do it, and you WILL do it! It’s one weigh in and it could be down to lots of reasons – water retention and the like. So draw a line under it, and start afresh this week! You’ve done so well so far, and you will WIN!
πŸ™‚ All the best, Tracey xx

    Hey Tracey,
Thank you! I’m in a slight state of awe as well… especially because I really didn’t resist ANY temptations. And there were many. So, so many. Haha! 12 creme eggs? Wow! I think that’s up there with my daily intake last week… I know how you feel with regards to not being busy! I’m currently between jobs so I’m basically constantly “lounging about the house” (as people I know kindly put it) with no real work to do beside whatever I can muster up the will-power to do. It’s painfully difficult not to snack ALL THE TIME. Haha.
You’ll start losing again now you’re back at work! I’m sure of it. As will I. (For some magical reason.)

Oh, bless your heart. Yes – I know, it must be water retention or something. It has to be! It can’t be the fact that I hoovered up one – no, two bars of chocolate. And a take-out chicken tortilla wrap. Ahem…
So I’m aaaall for starting afresh now. Oh, you’re terribly kind. You will win too! Everyone will win! πŸ™‚ And you’re halfways… it’s still amazing, don’t worry that you haven’t lost anything since the last post with that amount of progress πŸ˜‰ you’re doing fabulously and the tide will turn…

I actually just measured my upper arms and one is down (almost) 1″ while the other is down 1″ almost 1.5″. Nice!

Hope to hear from you soon! πŸ™‚

    Alex xx

Hi ladies, your posts have been inspirational. Since starting the 5.2 diet 2 weeks ago during my Easter holidays I’ve become a bit obsessed with reading other peoples success stories so finding this forum has been ideal!

I found it was super easy to fast during the holidays (I’m a teacher) but now I’m back at work I find my energy dwindling towards the end of a 12 hour day! Any suggestions on how to keep it up would be great! Fortunately I am encouraged by the scales to continue (lost 9lbs in 2 weeks). Still have another 42lbs to go to reach a 10 stone goal but have set what I hope is a reasonable target of next May as a close friend is getting married in Greece and I’m a bridesmaid (a triple whammy week of bridesmaid dress, lots of photos and bikini weather is my motivation!!)

Hope you’re all grand and enjoying the 5:2 life style πŸ™‚
Already looking forward to reading more positive stories and suggestions as you all continue to post πŸ™‚

    Molly

    hi guys!
I’m 24 and from California. I’ve been doing 5:2 for about 3 weeks now! It’s much easier and more manageable than I thought! I love it. Only thing is… on some of my non-fast days I just EAT SO MUCH. I’m definitely a binger, it’s always been a problem for me. Still trying to figure out if 5:2 is making it worse or better? I haven’t lost much weight, about a pound, I’m ok with that. I’m not super overweight just want to lose about 10 pounds and conquer my massive issues with food. I’m SO SICK of obsessing about weight and dieting. I hope I get some recovery one day.
All you ladies are awesome, keep it up!

    XO,
    Lacey

    Hi and welcome:

Sounds like you are doing well. Focus on doing your diet days properly (500 cal. or less) for another 5 or so weeks and see how it is going. The binging often subsides the longer you do 5:2.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Lacey,
Thanks for posting, I’m fairly new and struggle with over eating non-fast days too and thinking it’s just a mind thing I’ll get over soon (have a few other things going on at the moment so a bit of comfort eating happening and stopped with slimming world). Keep it going and think of the health benefits too!
    Manda x

    Hey Alex,
Snacking is my downfall too, I just can’t resist… Anything! I need to sort out some self-control. This week went well-ish. I fasted 2 days (I usually do 3), and I kept the calories down over the weekend. But wow, it was hard. I could hear the crisps calling me…
The Easter eggs are finally gone, so now I have no choice but to eat healthy stuff.

Wahoo!!!! Congrats on the inches! It looks like your measurements are on the move again, good luck with the next weigh-in!!

Where abouts are you from? (If you don’t mind me asking!)

Here’s to a new week, new start πŸ˜€

    Take care xxx

Glad some other people are relating here. Also SO happy to hear the bingeing goes away (or gets better) after some time, I believe it. I think it’s definitely (partially) psychological. Like, OH, I’ve been so good and technically I can eat whatever today so CHIPS AND SALSA forever. Haha. I don’t eat sugar because I’m a sugar addict (It’s bad!) so now I binge on chips and nuts πŸ™
Especially if I’m tired or stressed. And night time is the most dangerous! If I’m on the couch, I want snacks! Thinking about taking up knitting to keep my hands/mind busy while I relax.

I just have to keep the faith and I know i’ll heal if I keep at it. Thanks for the support.

    Hey Lacey,
Ooo knitting… I hadn’t thought of that. But I know what you mean! I know I’m not hungry, and yet all I want is food!!

I’m sure it will get easier for you over time, we just need to keep at it, and we’ll get there. Luckily there’s this brilliant forum with tons if support to help πŸ™‚ xx

So nice to hear that other people are experiencing the same issues of me. Had great results initially, and then completely went off track with some serious comfort eating! It’s def become a bit more like fast one day, binge another as against to fast one day, eat normally the next! Don’t think I can remember how to actually eat normally anymore, as bizarre as that sounds! Been on so many diets, hard to get my mind to just eat normally and healthily on the non fast days.

Anyhow, hearing from all of you has really spurred me on to stay focused and on track, gotta be on a beach with my skinny mini sister in a month so gotta get back on track! Not expecting miracles but would be nice to shift at least 7 pounds before I go, which I feel positive that I can actually achieve!

Well done so far ladies, great hearing about all your success and nice to know I’m not alone!

Hopefully Il have some encouraging results on my next post!

    Good luck xx

Hi girls! I was really pleased to find this thread as the 5:2 does seem more popular amongst older people and I wondered if it would be as effective for people in their 20s (I’m 24). I have known about the 5:2 for a while and my boyfriend’s parents have both lost lots of weight on it, and I’ve decided to give it a go as I’m off to Ibiza in a couple of months time and really want to shift some pounds! So far I’m on my second fast day of my first week and I’ve actually found it really easy – it’s definitely the thought of being able to eat normally the following day.
I’m just wondering whether you find if it matters how often you eat on a fast day? I’ve been having fruit for breakfast, a salad for lunch (literally just lettuce and veg, about 50-60 cals) then an evening meal. Would it be more effective for me to miss lunch so I have a longer period without food, or does it not matter as long as you keep to 500 cals?

Hey girls! I’m 21 and just started today with my first fast!

Everyone seems to be losing a lot which is very encouraging!

I want to loose 5kg by my next weigh In (4weeks)

But I was wondering if we are supposed to eat on fast days or not?

deelite you’re supposed to eat around 500 calories on a fast day πŸ™‚

Hi! I am 26 and have 120lbs to lose. I am a week and a half in and have lost 5lbs. I am also doing a 80% clean eating diet on nonfasting days.

I am very excited to be doing this. I know someone that lost 115lbs in a year doing this diet. I believe in it

    Hi

I’m 27 and started April 30th ’13 at over 190 lbs (I didn’t weigh myself until 2 weeks in) and have lost 32+ pounds since. I’m now around 156 pounds and counting. I went from a UK size 18/20 to a size 12. Even though I seem to go from plateau to plateau, I never stop losing inches. Yesterday I went cycling in shorts (without leggings underneath!) for the first time ever because my thighs don’t rub together anymore when I’m on my bike.

It’s sometimes hard to keep going when I’m on the same weight for weeks and weeks. But I know that when I’m maintaining, I’m not gaining. The fact that I’ve been on a ‘diet’ for over a year without yoyo-ing is pretty much a miracle. And then the lovely moment comes when all of a sudden I’ve dropped 3 pounds and all is well again and I’m more motivated than ever. I even managed to lose 800 grams over the holidays (God knows how).

I love everything about this WOL. I have more natural restaint now (I can eat 1 pringle and leave the rest, even when I’m by myself). I can have my treats, not feel guilty and still lose weight. I enjoy my foods even more than before (something as simple as an apple tastes like heaven most days). I don’t obsess about food anymore (I’m not scared of going hungry, and turns out I almost never do).

I don’t know if this is the type of information you are looking for. All I can say is, I wish I had known about it sooner and thank God I ended up watching that Horizon documentary when I did. I think it saved my life. God knows where I’d be now if I hadn’t stuck around to watch it.

    Hi Everyone,
I’m 26 and in Aus… in kg I have 28kg to loose (61.6 pounds). Can i just say that reading through this has been so encouraging.

I’m getting married in January, and while my wonderful fiance keeps telling me I have no reason to weigh less I would still like to get rid of a number of kilos to be able to feel much more confident.

These stories have been so encouraging!

Hey there, I’m 24 and started 3 weeks ago. I am not seeing many results yet other than an initial loss of 1.5kg but I’m just gonna stick with it.

I think I’ll stay away from the scales for a while because seeing the same numbers is not encouraging and makes the good feeling of a morning after a fast disappear right away. Also promotes emotional eating response, ugghhh

    Erica

    Hi esingocerze & welcome!

I am 27-almost-28 for reference sake.

I agree on the avoidance of scales front, or taking the numbers with a pinch of salt, especially if it is promoting emotional eating! What I would recommend however is measuring. The number on the scales for me initially decreased very rapidly by a few kg but has remained static now for 2 weeks I think? Yet my measurements are still decreasing (overall from various parts 5 inches). From reading the forum, you are right, progress can be steady but slow, but then I would expect the effects to be more of a long term solution as opposed to a ‘quick fix’.

Also, how would you say your eating is on non-fast days? My eating started off pretty badly during non-fast days (i.e. lots of junk) which was most likely offsetting the progress from the fasting days. I am slowly but surely changing this to overall have a better diet filled with less unprocessed foods (at least for my main meals), though I’m still having at least one ‘processed’ treat per non-fasting day πŸ™‚

Good luck with your journey! Keep us updated!

I’m 19, but I hope I’m still welcome here! I started fasting in March, and my BMI is 21.5 so I didn’t exactly have to diet, but did want to in order to lose a couple of kilos and tone – I started doing stomach exercises simultaneously. Personally, my main reason is that I did sports intensively as a kid and stopped at 17, went on the pill and developed quickly in terms of hips and stuff so I wanted to take a step back towards my younger fitter self.
I’ve been very strict on the fast days, but on other days I have gone for the sugary feast and I am someone who drinks wine regularly. All in all, progress has been slow, but I am feeling much better and being told that I look more toned.
Slightly worried about how I’ll keep it up at university though – although I plan to go down once I reach 64kg (am at 5 ft. 9inch and 66kg at the moment).

Good luck everyone, it’s so encouraging to see you all doing amazingly.

    Hannah

    Oh to be 19 again.

    Hehe Amy C !

Welcome fasting anonymous ! I too sometimes go on a bit (too) crazy on the sugar on my non-fast days, something I am slowly adjusting as my body now reacts pretty badly to it after a fast day! I think it will indeed be difficult to adjust at university (or at least whilst I was at university a lot of socialising revolved around food & drinking..!) but if you’re switching to the 6:1 soon then I think it will be manageable with some discipline & careful co-ordinating.

Keep us updated with how you get on πŸ™‚

Argh so I started this diet awhile ago but only lasted two weeks but am ready to give it a proper go this time around. My new job is in an office and has me sitting all day which I’m not used to.. That combined with moving in with my boyfriend who despite being slim is averse to vegetables and healthy eating means I have gained I would say 10kg and I was already unhappy with my weight to begin with!

I am hoping to lose around 20kg, but I don’t own scales as they depress me haha so I suppose around size 10 is where I’m aimed at – I’m a 12-14 now.. Any my clothes are getting a little snug 😐

Do you think it’s possible to lose around 15kg by end of December? I don’t want to lose it too quickly but in saying that summer is right around the corner here in NZ!

    Thank you,

    Maddy xx

Hi! I’m 27 and am starting the 5:2 diet tomorrow. My food is prepped, my ‘my fitness pal’ app in ready to go and I’m actually looking forward to my first fast day tomorrow haha but we will see! Green tea is going to be my best friend on fasting days (I’m obsessed with green tea) and I’m going to make sure I mix up my meals to keep it interesting. If anyone has anymore handy hints for me please fire away!

    Hi everyone!
It’s been a while! Hope everyone is okay?
I fell/crashed off the wagon and put on roughly a stone! Ahhh! But I’m back at it, and 2 weeks in I’ve lost 9lbs. I’m determined to keep at it. I was shocked how quickly I fell into a downward spiral of eating rubbish all the time! So I definitely need to practise some self control.
Last week I was on holiday. I had my birthday (25!), a graduation celebration for my sister, and was constantly around people eating fish&chips and ice creams and … Fudge (mouth waters).
I’m proud to say I resisted everything bar one ice cream at the end, and a gammon and chips on my birthday! I fasted 4:3 and managed to lose 4lbs! So all that misery was worth it. Although watching my sister eat ice cream after ice cream left me feeling a bit sorry for myself!!
She bought me a swimming MP3 player to motivate me to keep at it – looking forward to using it tomorrow!
Feeling very positive, and LOVE reading about all you others and how you’re getting on, so please keep posting with updates!
    Onwards and downwards!
    Tracey x

    Hello ladies!

maddystella – I think 15kg in 4 months is a bit ambitious – I’m not doubting your discipline, more that the calorie deficit on the 5:2 means an average weight loss of 1lb/week – you however say you would like to lose 2 lbs a week. Apparently it is also harder to lose when you are not very overweight too but I’m not sure about this. You can try doing the 4:3 (fasting 3 days a week ) to speed things up a little in the short term.

The_motivated_me I hope your first fast today went well! I love green tea too (matcha!) though use coffee as a crutch on fast days.

treat89 Sorry to hear about your crash but way to go for getting right back on the wagon πŸ™‚ Ooh in swimming MP3 player sounds awesome! I am getting into swimming at the moment. That’s great to hear the 4:3 is working well for you, I’m tempted to add in a 4:3 week whenever my schedule allows though I do definitely find it much harder psychologically!

I’m doing ok, my fast day today felt hard as I was feeling rather lethargic but thankfully the day is almost over… I updated my blog with week 4 progress pics too which you can see in the before & after section of the forums.

    Happy fasting ladies!

Luckylucy, lovely to hear from you πŸ™‚
I love swimming. I don’t really like being left with my own thoughts, I’m too much of a worrier! So the MP3 player will hopefully solve that.
I know what you mean about 4:3 being tricky. I might chop and change with 5:2 some weeks. Too many weeks of 4:3 might have partly caused my crash off the wagon last time. Mmmm.
Your pics are fab. You must be very pleased with your progress, well done!

The_motivated_me, I’ve just started using MFP. I had it before and really didn’t get into it. But this time around I think it’s my new best friend!! I’ve just started exploring their website too.

It’ll be a non-fast day soon! Hurray for breakfast.

    Tracey

treat89 thank you for your kind words πŸ™‚ Regarding 4:3 vs 5:2, I think I will do the same. I find in a way I am more likely to overeat on a 4:3 week as I have more ‘chances’ to fast, which defeats the point!

That said, I’d plan a 4:3 week this week so that is what I’m planning on doing… 2nd fast day tomorrow!

Luckylucy, I had my 2nd fast today too. How did you get on? I’ve been so hungry all day! Frustrating.
I find on 4:3 I’m terrified of “ruining” any weightloss I might have managed on fasting days, and frequently under eat on normal days! This must slow down my metabolism, so I guess I just need to be “brave” and trust in the fasting process. Easier said than done.

Think of not undereating as a way you can make sure you’ll stick with the programme. If you’re happy and content (without overindulging obviousy), you’ll be much happier during FDs and so much more motivated to keep doing this. I’ve noticed that if I eat a bit too much, I’ll be hungrier on FDs but the same goes for eating too little. If I undereat on regular days (it happens on occasion, usually Tuesdays), I struggle harder on my next FD. I find that if I eat between my BMR and TDEE (by approximation) my FDs are so much easier. In the long run, you will def lose more weight if you’re motivated to keep doing it. Because you’ll still be doing it a year from now, two years from now, etc.

Hi all, sorry, I’ve been a bit awol! How is everyone getting along?

Good point FlemishCurves – this is something I hope to work on for the next month that I am on the diet – not eating to excess on my feed days (I personally think I don’t struggle with the under eating part!) as it affects my fast days & general well being.

Anyway, I am past one month on the diet! I have updated my thoughts about the lifestyle so far on the blog but essentially there are pros (removing guilt from treats, fast days aren’t *too* difficult) & cons (the cold! & tiredness).

We’ll see where the next month takes me πŸ™‚

    Hey everyone,

I’m 27 and started 5:2 yesterday after seeing my aunty at the weekend who had lost 2 stone on it!

Im 9st 3lb and 5ft 4 so keen to lose just over a stone and get back to 8st and solidly size 8 clothes.

Wondering if anyone has tried 4:3?

I do 4:3 every week, and combine with swimming x2 and “running” (it’s more half run/half walk at the moment!)
I love it. It can be difficult, but getting into a routine makes it much easier. I fast mon/wed/fri, and my job means I can’t eat from 8-12/1-3.30 due to school hours, and I can find work to do to distract during the lunch hour.
I started in January and had lost 3 stone by April, so for me, I know 4:3 works. But I have a lot to lose, so that will have contributed to the initial fast weight loss.
I’ve heard its best to change it up with 5:2 to keep up the weight loss, so will be trying that!
    Happy fasting πŸ™‚

Wow I completely lost track of this post (forgot to push notifications). Well done on doing a whole month, @luckylucy. It does get easier. Although I’m still cold almost every FD, but I’m used to it now. My cherry pit cushion is one of my best friends these days.

TBH, I’m pretty sure I overate immensely the first couple of months on RDs. I wasn’t keeping track of my calories at all, nor had I bothered to calculate my BMR/TDEE. I only started doing that after I hit a plateau. So you’re already ahead of where I was at that point and I’m doing swimmingly. So I wouldn’t sweat it too much. Forgive yourself and gradually adapt your eating habits. With all the Hare Diets around, 5:2 is sort of the Turtle Diet: easy does it.

    Hey everyone,
I’m 20 and it is so good to see so many of you around the same age, I’m in Australia and didn’t realise how popular this diet was! Over the past 3 years I’ve gained 30kg, so around 65lbs, and want to get rid of it. I’ve been looking today at what to expect as I plan to fast tomorrow for the first time. It’s wonderful to see so many of you have had positive results, can’t wait to start! Also just curious if anyone has the exercise app and if so, do you find it very helpful?
    Thanks!

    Hello!!
I am 21 from Ireland, and started this diet exactly one month ago yesterday! I have lost 9lbs so far which i am over the moon with considering i had my birthday party (which included lots of cake and drink) and every other day excluding fast days ive been eating till my hearts content! However, last week was the worst week yet only managed to fit in one fast day and didnt weigh in as i new i would be up. Soo new week, new month and this week i am aiming for a 4:3 but we will see how it goes.

@teega4 welcome to the diet hopefully you find it worthwile, the first few fast days can be hard but stick with it! i have never heard of the exercise app and havennt been doing any exercise on the diet so would like to try it too.

this month i am trying to keep the healthy eating for most days and if i need a treat maybe one day a week i will. Starting back to college next week so curious to see how that will go.

Goodluck to everyone this week – 1st day of September, make it count! πŸ™‚

    Hi there,

Today is my official first fast day and proud to say that it has gone well! I felt really hungry but had a salad for lunchtime and that has tidied me up well.

I am 26 yrs old and wanting to lose 8 kilos….current BMI is 25 so borderline to being overweight so I want to get myself into a healthy weight and also slim down for my upcoming wedding.

Would love to know success stories to people really changing their shape of their body.

I am a ‘hippy’ girl with a booty and really want to slim down and get those sexy legs back that I used to have πŸ™‚

    Hi girls!

Are any of you still doing this diet? I am starting tomorrow (nervous!) and looking for motivation from others of a similar age to me who are still doing it (I am 22)

    Thanks!

    Siobhan

Hello, I’ve been doing this for a week, lost 2.5 lbs which I’m pleased with. I had been on a calorie restricted diet of 1400kcal a day, and I don’t feel any hungrier on a fast day than I did on 1400 cal! It must be all in the mind. Before the 5.2, I’d been losing a lb every other week. I love this diet, especially how good I feel the morning after a fast day! I’m struggling to eat the 1900 cal I’m supposed to on the feast days though, I think I’m scared after calorie restriction for so long! I try and eat normally and then I feel really guilty!

    Hi pinkdodo and welcome:

5:2 does not ‘require’ you to eat 1900 calories on your non diet days – the guidance is to eat to your TDEE or less. If you don’t feel like eating that much, don’t! The less you eat, the more you lose.

    Here are some tips: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Hey ladies! Anyone still around? So it didn’t really work for me last time around, as I was trying to keep it a secret from everyone (to avoid disapproval). It got me down, and I quit…

However, I have restarted, and so far lost 7lbs in a month! Still have at least a stone to lose, but my clothes are fitting much better. The big difference is that my family are doing it with me this time, so we are all supporting each other.

Hoping to carry on for another 2-3 months.

    Best diet I’ve ever done!

    Hi!
I haven’t been on here in a long time but have been doing 5:2 on and off. Unfortunately didn’t properly stick to it as well as I’d hoped but I have been making better food choices and have slowly lost around 8kg in 2016 – despite still lots of lollies and what not, bad I know!

I’m actually back on 5:2 as of last week and cutting down portion sizes the rest of the time. 7lbs in a month is amazing, well done! Can I ask what and how much you’re eating outside of fasting hours?

I have about 30kg left to lose and I’d love to lose about 10kg of that by September 1st.

    Hi ladies,

I have just started the 5:2 diet and after reading all of your success stories it’s definitely pointing me in the right direction. i have struggled to find people on 5:2 that are in their 20’s with the same about to lose as myself. I currently sit around 64Kg but would ideally like to get to 60kg before i fly to Florida in August! Whether this is dooable or not i’m unsure but i will definitely be open to tips and your success stories!

today is my first fasting day and so far have a protein shake with a handful of raspberries and weirdly i’m not feeling hungry yet!

Hello! Good luck to you both, sounds like you are doing well.

@maddystella – Wow, 8kg! Do you have any tips?

I have no idea how I lost 7lbs. At the beginning I walked *a lot* for 3 days (almost to the point where I couldn’t stand because my feet were so sore – I was on holiday and determined to see *all* the sights!). And because it was the beginning of the diet, I think I lost more weight then too. Now I’m pretty much 1lb a week πŸ™‚

I only count calories on my fast days, and just try not to go too crazy the rest of the time. Now mostly eating a plant-based diet, making better choices (but still eating cake haha). And trying to get active and have fun!

    Hi All
It’s good to come across this thread. I’ve posted on a few other threads on the forum and do agree there is not many folk in their 20s, so I thought I would join this thread.

I’m 29, live in Scotland and this is week 10 on 5:2 for me. I have around 70 pounds (5 stone) to lose after around 3 years of serious over indulgence and minimal exercise. When I started 5:2 my exercise was still at a minimum and I only included things like increased walking and for the past 3 weeks have attended a cardio tennis class. I’ve since ramped this up this week to 4 times this week before my weekly weigh in. I weigh on a friday after my second fast day (Thursdays) so I’m excited to see the results of a substantial increase in exercise.

My progress has been slower than I hoped, and I put this down to the lack of exercise. My starting weight was 17 stone 2- around 240 pounds and now 9 weeks later and is now 227 pounds (16 stone 3). So 1 pound off my first stone that I hope to get this week! I plateued from weeks 4 to 7 which was also disappointing. I think clothes feel looser but I do also measure and think I’ve lost an inch round my stomach area but I definitely feel a difference!

On non fast days – I eat a max of 1500 calories (My TDEE is high around 2300 and BMR around 1700) I also have nights out around 2 to 3 times per month where I drink A LOT, have fun and don’t think about it. I don’t track calories on these days and don’t really restrict myself of anything. I feel I do enough the rest of the month and need a night off here and there!

I don’t want to turn this post into a novel!- but interested to hear other peoples stories and thoughts πŸ˜€

I did my first two days of fasting last week and found it surprisingly easy. I was away in London wedding planning so did have a few sweet treats at the weekend although did manage to get out for a run on both days! Hoping the results won’t be too bad.

I am down to 10 stone now, so lost 1.5lbs last week. Being really good this week and fasting Tuesday and Friday this week as i am working the evenings so should find it easier!

only 5 weeks down to holiday now so some motivation would be good!

hope you ladies are doing well x

I am 28, trying to lose about 50lbs before my wedding in December.

I have been eating like crap (ate 8 slices of homemade pizza last night all by myself!), so even though the scale said 206lbs this morning, I think that may be salt and water-retention; I’m probably closer to 200lbs.

Regardless, at 5′ 7″ I would like to get down to 135lbs. Obviously that probably won’t happen by my wedding date this year, but if I could get down to 150lbs by my wedding I would be happy. This summer I am doing the 5:2 (today is my first day), and working out three days a week – I do a 30 minute run/walk with my dog, get home and do a Kayla Itsines circuit workout (approx. 30 minutes), and then a good deep stretch for 15 minutes. I also do a super long walk with my dog once a week (5 miles) and am trying to get back into going to yoga at least once a week.

Hey laura!! WELL DONE half a stone is amazing!! You should be super proud of yourself for that achievement but i have no idea how you managed tp stay off the scales for so long!

I am also in my 20’s and have been doing it for two weeks now and have changed to 4:3 to see if this can give me an extra boost before my holiday and the end of August! You’re right with the mental side of things, the days i am fasting i have a totally different mind set!
