Amazon,
Exciting – hope you have a great holiday.
Checking out Holland and Barrata for Oat Milk.
Kefir not doing well in coconut but keeping it going.

I don’t like almond milk in coffee and I never drink latte as it tastes like hot milk to me. I prefer strong coffee with a small amount of milk.
I always forget that it isn’t as easy for everyone to buy certain products but I think Happy uses oat milk so you should be able to find it and I know H&B sell Oatly and Provamel oat drinks. ๐
Thanks for the good wishes, I’m getting very excited now and just want to get on the plane ๐ซ
Yes, I do use oat milk, in coffee and porridge but not tea. Eew.
Itโs widely available in most supermarkets, so not at all specialist or hard to source. And there are several brands available (Oatly, Alpro, Provitamil).
I prefer it to almond milk in coffee, a much creamier flavour. And a dose of healthy oats too!
Amazon, Iโm very jealous of your holiday! Last nights snow has melted today, but itโs bitterly cold. Iโm getting fed up of living in thermals โน๏ธ
Happy,
It’s cold here too. Obviously not as cold as where you are but cold enough!
There is a need for thermals and fleeces up in the Andes as it gets chilly at night but the 20C daytime temperatures compensate and we only spend a few days at such high altitude between stays in cloud forest and Amazon rainforest which will be humid and full of bitey flying things ๐ฌ
I like unsweetened almond milk and oat milk but I think it’ll need to be cows milk for my tea.
Not sure what is available in Ecuador. Alpaca? Llama? Guanaco?
Maybe I’ll stick to Pisco Sours ๐
Hello,
Today I needed to change my walking routine. It’s been too warm therefore I was up a little earlier to have my beautiful walk followed by a bike ride with Sasha inside the basket.
Flag up with my Fast and doing well so far. Monday also became my cleaning day.
Later on a vegan doctor will be in Town for a speech. His name is Dr. Neal Bernard and the tittle is The cheese trap.
Jumping on the milk conversation here – I never tried oats milk. In the morning I really need that strong coffee with a little 2% milk. Almond or rice is horrible but soy I liked better.
I’ll look for next trip to the store.
Safe travels Amazon. I am sure the weather is beautiful and similar like here.
Stay well Gals and RT.
๐ด
Hello,
It’s cloudy here this morning. For the last couple days is so warm. Yesterday I turned the a/c on because the humidity was so high. It wasn’t set to cold… only to keep the air inside the house a bit dry.
That speech Monday the Doc was advertising his new book The Cheese Trap. According to him cheese produces a chemical in the body that can makes us addicted to it.
The part the struck me most was referring the baby cows being separeted from their Mums and both crying looking for each other. I think Happy spoke about this once. Heat breaking ๐ฅ. The dairy and beef corporations here are big business $$$.
My week is doing well mentally and physicaly.
It’s Valentine’s Day today. Today is not a gods day to dine out. All restaurants are packed. We’ll go out tomorrow maybe. Good excuse for me to Fast today.
Stay well everyone.
Happy Valentine’s โค๏ธ
Well there was no romance in this house yesterday! Itโs just another day hijacked and now driven by rampant commercialism. I see that you can now buy cards, not only for your sweetheart, but from/to the dog/cat/your mum/Dad/grandparents/daughter etc. Valentineโs Day was a day for romance and lovers, but now itโs just another day when businesses try to part fools and their money. Perhaps Iโm missing the point, but it just seems creepy and wrong for adults and minors to be exhorting one another โto be my valentineโ.
Bah humbug ๐
Morning/evening all,
IMO Valentine’s Day is a very successful commercial enterprise. It used to be celebrated properly back in the days when eating out wasn’t a regular occurrence for many and it was a rare treat for a couple to spend an evening out together away from the trials of life. It was also a good way to ensure that someone knew you were interested in getting to know them better by sending them a card with a loaded hint as to your identity ๐
Nowadays it’s all about extracting as much money as possible on mawkish tokens of “love”.
I find it sickening that organisations such as the US Open and WTA wish everone Happy Valentine’s Day via Twitter.
Happy, I’ll see your Bah humbug and raise it to Bah Scrooge Humbug ๐คฃ
Anyways, today is packing day and my living room resembles a clothing emporium. I am about to dust off the iron for the second time in a week to ensure that everything is at least crease free to start with.
I got up in the middle of the night to check in for my flights and am pleased I didn’t wait as they had me in a window seat. The airline obviously didn’t check the biggest fidgets in the world blacklist…….. ๐
I’ve got my preferred aisle seat reserved for outward and return flights so I can now relax, watch some skating and tennis then get packing.
Food free fasting hasn’t worked this week but that’s OK as all my clothes are comfy and an extra pound lost wouldn’t make a noticeable difference.
The final countdown to goal starts when I get back.
Have a good one everybody ๐
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43064290
As usual the BBC illustrate the article with a photo of a woman eating cake……….
Theyโve obviously given some thought to the photo though. Itโs not an article about processed food making you fat, so theyโve chosen someone who isnโt overweight to eat cake!
I hope the packingโs going well Amazon. I know Iโve found it harder since losing weight because everything fits and looks good, and Iโm not just faced with a choice of too tight (overstuffed sausage) or voluminous (beach changing robe). And it certainly makes clothes shopping a more pleasant (and expensive) experience.
The packing went very well and the bag is already in the car so I don’t have to lug it down the stairs at 3.30am and try not to wake the neighbours in the process ๐
I used to go for voluminous mens shirts and baggy trousers but am now fond of wearing clothes that show off the fact that I go in at the waist rather than out!
I’ve also discovered that skirts are much cooler than trousers so I tend to wear them except when trekking/cycling or jumping on and off boats. All the tops go with all the skirts/trousers which used to be a major failing and led to some interesting last day of the holiday combinations…………
Hello Friends,
The result of my Fast yesterday was only a half pound lost. Maybe my body was protecting my muscles after running and god knows whatever is in transit. Doesn’t matter… all is well.
Valentine’s Day – yes! Everything in the US is over-commercialized. I don’t want chocolate, cheap gifts or else. I gave already enough of what I need on this earth. In Brazil that day is called friendship’s day.
We are going out tonight where we can sit with Sasha outside.
Jo I am so happy you are already good to go on your busy physical schedule. It’s wonderful to have a pain free life.
I thought Amazon was gone… now I think she’s on her way to her vacation.
Waiting for the funnies ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Bad news – yesterday 17 kids were killed in a schoo in Floridal by someone with an AR 15. Say no more ๐ก

There’s a sudden hush on the thread, with Amazon on the wing! We enjoyed a lovely dinner and conversation with Wiwi and her OH on Saturday.
Hatches have been battened down as hurricane Gita, having had her way with Tonga and Fiji, has curved through the Pacific and has our corner in her sights. It’s being recommended that those who don’t have to travel in Wellington tomorrow should stay at home. I will certainly check the trains before I make a decision. It’s only been two weeks since the last one hit ๐
Four power points put in place is the sum of the kitchen work today. It’s getting a bit ridiculous. The very least we can expect is to be kept up to date. Today was supposed to see the flooring laid.
I agree with all of you re Valentine’s Day – commercial crass. I would much rather have recognition and hugs, flowers and wine (hold the chocolate!) on any day of the year!
Well done your daughter on her run, Jo. And good news that we can expect to see you here next year. I just hope we can have another summer like this one (or not another like last year – totally forgettable!), hurricanes excepted.
Hi fasters
Did a good fast yesterday.
Today it feels as if all hell will break loose in Wellington with the cyclone arriving. I walked to the train earlier and it was wet, but as the rain is vertical not the usual 60ยฐ, I used an umbrella and didn’t take off. It’s funny to be in the calm before the storm, and reminds me of a work trip to Bujumbura in Burundi, when there were a calm few days between battles. Plenty of tension, no noise, but the wait almost unbearable.
I have a friend arriving from France via Melbourne in 2 hours and the flight will meet the NZ coastline at the same time and place as cyclone Gita. Most flights have simply been cancelled.
Perth is a good intermediary stop, Jojo, but so hot in summer (40ยฐ). We can’t exclude cyclones in summer now in NZ, with the higher than normal sea temperatures, and today it is warm as well as wet. I just think about the local forest which is lapping up this warm rain, and will look even more magnificent when the sun comes back.
Barata, I am hearing that Wgtn will go from flat calm to 50km/hr then a lot more in a short time. Can’t you go home early?
All battened down and waiting. Fast tomorrow.
xx Wiwi
Urrrr…hold on to something secure girls. I wouldn’t fancy landing at Wellington airport in severe winds, it’s very exposed. We are getting a bit of wind and, finally, some overnight rain. We are desperate for more.
I continue with ADF for the month of Feb. Very easy as it becomes second nature and I have to do so little shopping or cooking ๐ It has definitely reduced my non fast day appetite. An excellent reset. P
It was calm as a summer’s day on the commute home, Wi. Oh, that’s right, it is a summer’s day ๐ And this morning my umbrella only blew inside out once! Wind will get up later in the evening. I have just emptied 80mm from the gauge, it has certainly bucketed down!
Happy, we sit astride the Roaring Forties, and as Wi says, increasing sea temperatures are not doing us any favours.
Hello,
Really! I didn’t know NZ had crazy weather like that. I hope your building are better made than our here. They for sure changed the the building code for new ones but we still have some many cheap constructions made out of cheap plywood.
I fasted yesterday! Well this week so far no major developments. I am counting on the Thursday one.
Amazon is enjoying herself so much she forgot about us. It must be the warmer weather ๐ด
๐ป
Very warm wishes to Wi, who celebrates a milestone birthday today. Have a great one, Wi, and travel safely xxx ๐
And yes, HCB. Our buildings are built for weather, and earthquakes, and … Looks like a nice weekend coming up, though.
FD, but the computers are down at work, so no progress on jobs that need to be done, and no distractions ๐
Wi, belated many happy returns! I hope you celebrated in style?
Iโve come across a few interesting health snippets in the last couple of days which may be of interest.
Firstly, a study which reports that hypertensive adults who eat yoghurt regularly, especially in the context of a healthy diet, are at reduced risk of developing CVD. Since yoghurt is a fermented milk product, I guess kefir is similarly beneficial ๐
Those of you drinking fruit flavoured teas or water with lemon between meals are Iโm afraid risking tooth erosion. The advice is to stick to non-acidic drinks http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43141587.
Trust Me Iโm a Doctor has looked at the relationship between different exercises and bone health http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/60k0tWT6Jnz8WZgS4f73cyl/which-type-of-exercise-gives-you-the-strongest-bones
In a comparison of elite cricketers vs gymnasts vs cyclists, cricket came top for spine and hip density, with cycling actually resulting in reduced bone density (cf the average). So jumping and twisting puts a load on bones which results in stronger bones. Dancing and star jumps good (and running Jo!!), cycling and swimming bad (if thatโs all you do!).
I am looking forward to running again this year, although with temperatures hovering around zero for the next couple of weeks itโll be running on the spot and star jumps while the kettle boils for my non-acidic hot drink!
Interesting article about the benefits of short chain fatty acids found in fermented foods. Husband has always been slim, but started fasting regularly last year for the supposed health benefits. We also enjoy daily kefir.
He has recently weaned himself off BP medication as home monitoring was showing his readings to be a bit low.
I wonder if the kefir is having the anti inflammatory effects the researchers are so excited about?
Thanks Nama
I’m going to tweek my fibre intake to include more on the list (although as a girl born in banana growing country I will NEVER eat underripe bananas!).
I was able to lower my BP meds, early on, after starting 5:2, but ended up back on the same level after another couple of years. Let’s see if I can change this again! Cheers P
My sister-in-law just shared this on FB, so lacking RT’s Friday funnies I thought I would post…
A PLANE IS ON ITS WAY TO TORONTO , WHEN A BLONDE IN ECONOMY CLASS GETS UP AND MOVES TO THE FIRST CLASS SECTION AND SITS DOWN.
THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT WATCHES HER DO THIS AND ASKS TO SEE HER TICKET.
SHE THEN TELLS THE BLONDE THAT SHE PAID FOR ECONOMY CLASS AND THAT SHE WILL HAVE TO SIT IN THE BACK.
THE BLONDE REPLIES, “I’M BLONDE, I’M BEAUTIFUL, I’M GOING TO TORONTO AND I’M STAYING RIGHT HERE.”
THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT GOES INTO THE COCKPIT AND TELLS THE PILOT AND THE CO-PILOT THAT THERE IS A BLONDE BIMBO SITTING IN FIRST CLASS, THAT BELONGS IN ECONOMY AND WON’T MOVE BACK TO HER SEAT.
THE CO-PILOT GOES BACK TO THE BLONDE AND TRIES TO EXPLAIN THAT BECAUSE SHE ONLY PAID FOR ECONOMY SHE WILL HAVE TO LEAVE AND RETURN TO HER SEAT.
THE BLONDE REPLIES, “I’M BLONDE, I’M BEAUTIFUL, I’M GOING TO TORONTO AND I’M STAYING RIGHT HERE.”
THE CO-PILOT TELLS THE PILOT THAT HE PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE THE POLICE WAITING WHEN THEY LAND TO ARREST THIS BLONDE WOMAN WHO WON’T LISTEN TO REASON.
THE PILOT SAYS, “YOU SAY SHE IS A BLONDE? I’LL
HANDLE THIS, I’M MARRIED TO A BLONDE. I SPEAK BLONDE.”
HE GOES BACK TO THE BLONDE AND WHISPERS IN HER EAR, AND SHE SAYS, “OH, I’M SORRY.” AND GETS UP AND GOES BACK TO HER SEAT IN ECONOMY.
THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT AND CO-PILOT ARE AMAZED AND ASKED HIM WHAT HE SAID TO MAKE HER MOVE WITHOUT ANY FUSS.
“I TOLD HER, ‘FIRST CLASS ISN’T GOING TO TORONTO.”
๐๐๐๐๐๐ sorry all my blondie friends ๐
ps I’m brunette.
Nama,
Thanks for the link. Itโs powerful stuff, this food!
HCB,
It seems to be a bit of a myth that running is bad for joints. Running is within the natural range of motion for which our bodies are designed and actually strengthens bones and joints. Research on people who run marathons has found the incidence of arthritis to be lower than in the general population. Age, family history and surgical history are independent predictors for increased risk of hip and knee arthritis, but there is no correlation with running history.
Of course this doesnโt mean people donโt get injured running, but thatโs more due to poor technique and overuse rather than running per se being damaging. I think the key is to listen to your body. If it hurts or doesnโt feel right, stop.
Barata,
Thanks…from a brunette ๐
Mr P and I were just discussing what we miss when doing ADF. I miss cooking and planning exotic meals…we are basically sticking to salads. He misses the wine!
Now, if Happy suggests we can still eat our favourite breakfast later in the day, can we switch that around to have wine any time? ๐๐๐ท๐ท
Now that has NOT happened to me before – losing a post! OH is not to be introduced to the fruit of the grape, P, until he retires! Get thee behind me! (only Christmas bubbly escapes that prohibition ๐ )
I’ve been awake from 3.30 this am, and am drooping fast. Off to dinner again with my cousin (who’s son is married to Wi’s niece) while the kitchen is still in stasis. At least the oven and cooktop are installed, so have had bacon and eggs this brunch on an induction cooktop. Unfortunately some of the pots, including my big stock pot, are not suitable, so we have had to go shopping for new cookware, and curtains, today.
Have a good weekend, all. xxx
Good work Barata I enjoyed it there has been a few family health issues 3rd born flown to Adelaide by air ambulance after finishing night shift he is only 26 with suspected kidney failure which it is not (his urine looked like stout very frothy and bubbly and his whole body swelled he put on 10kg in 3 days) but some rather intense times and some very disorganized chaos right now he is on the road to recovery, thanks my cyber family i will be back…!!
