  • Hi everyone, I am a 52 year old woman, who gave up smoking a year ago yesterday, and have put on loads of weight since! Started at 65 kilos now at 72, hasn’t helped as a going through the menopause as well! Double whammy.

Anyway after seeing friends success on the fast diet, I decided to give it a try, I have never dieted before, so this is a first for me.
Started yesterday, last meal was Sunday night at 7 o clock, ( late I know but due to work family etc, its the earliest we can do) I hate eating breakfast so skipped it just one black tea and mid morning black coffee. Didn’t feel I needed any lunch , or though I had a back up of soup (53 cals). So carried on with lots of water and a couple more coffees. Got home from work the hardest part sat down with nothing! Normally a glass of white wine 🙁 hubby cooks so sat caught up on emails etc, at 7.15 dinner ready, the rest of the family had spaghetti, I had a piece of lovely fresh salmon 158 gr. carrots and spinach 160gr with a very small half teaspoon of tartar sauce. Really enjoyed it didn’t go to bed hungry.

Did have a bad night sleeping, not due to been hungry, didn’t even think of food, just slept badly :(. Woke this morning looking forward to a new day, not really overly hungry either 🙂

Hope this works as would really love to lose some weight, as I also have a bad knee, which more weight = more pain.

Hi bluesea and welcome. I stopped smoking 18 months ago and like you I gained some weight but it was additional weight, as I was already a big girl. I too developed a problem with my knee and bursitis in my thigh. At times the pain would be excrutiating. I saw a specialist and he said that our knees carry 5 times our body weight. Imagine that! It definitely made me realise what a strain I was putting on them. I’ve been offered an injection but I’ve put it on hold because I want to see how losing weight will help. Anyway, I’ve lost almost a stone, the bursitis in the thigh has improved and is much less painful and the knee is at least free of almost 6 bags of sugar 🙂

Lots of information around the forums and everyone is very friendly.

    Hello and welcome!
I’m also in France. Where abouts are you?
Good luck with 5:2. It’s very liberating.

Hello and welcome to the 5:2 community 🙂 the original thought of fasting is a bit more scary than the realality I believe! You soon find a selection of yummy healthy foods that you can eat and look forward to fast days to have! And congratulations in stopping smoking! Thankfully smoking was one thing I never started doing! Good luck and enjoy 5:2 🙂
