  • Day 8 second post.
Survived dinner including cheesecake ( yes it simply DOES have to be done occasionally!). Had salmon and steamed veggies then shared cheesecake with my sister and gave my DH over half of my serve so ended up satisfied, not over full but enjoying the taste sensation of lemon cheesecake – light as a feather it was!
As someone who enjoys a glass of white wine or 2 I am now starting to have a glass of red – medicinally – as DR M says it is good for you.
The one I had tonight was pleasant – but I prefer white and I don’t go so red in the face as I seem to be doing with the red wine.
One other person at dinner is doing the 5:2 with good effect so far and another was so interested and keen to lose weight that they were asking how to go about it.
The message is slowly getting out there!

Day 8 – SW WA USA – NFD

Rain today after several days of sunshine. The grass at school is in need of some moisture.
The FD went well yesterday even with all the chocolate, donuts etc scattered about at the day of meetings. I did enjoy a small mandarin orange & 3 squares of dark chocolate – a controlled choice. Today is a controlled NFD with dinner at a new Greek restaurant with a friend. I’ve already checked the menu for good choices.

@chocolatemilkshake – @strawberriesandcream gave you a great link to check. Also, as you’ve probably seen by the posts, different people design their days differently. Most of us find it helps to have hours for an open and closed kitchen so we don’t snack incessantly. We’re trying to get in a rhythm of fasting & feasting. Most people in our culture just feast continually without giving their body a break. I try to stick to a 16:8 mostly – that’s an 8 hour eating window.

    Day 8 – scotland – NFD
I had planned to fast today but I was really without energy, which usually doesn’t happen on FD. I think it’s because of another sleepless night. My kids woke up 4 times (usually is only the baby who wakes once or twice) and when I was awake at night I could actually feel hungry. Yesterday was a controlled day, I probably had just over 600 cal divided between lunch and dinner. The scale today was my friend, 500 gr less than yesterday. Anyway, I’ll have to be more flexible until my husband comes back as I need lots of strength to look after my two boys on my own. Tomorrow won’t be a FD either (pizza with friends who want to help me in the evening) but I’ll try to eat only soup for lunch.

    Day 8, FD.

I did it! Well, according to me, I did it, i.e. 715 cals today, and it feels good. All I have to do now is sleep… My tummy is complaining a bit, but it’s bearable. On all my other successful FDs I went to bed kind-of hungry (but not desperately so – just not ‘full’ as usual), and I had to put effort into not getting up and eating throughout the night (‘Whatever you do, don’t get out of bed!’), and the next morning I have woken not hungry! As well as with a light, clean feeling. Wanting this feeling again helps to keep me on track – when it works!

I felt in danger of abandoning my fast around breakfast-time this morning – as has happened too many times! – but then I had 6 black teas with lemon juice almost in a row. Yep, 6. I ate at 2.30pm – a boiled egg and salad – then went for my hour-long bush/forest walk which includes a steep climb. Half the time my brolly was up as it rained – it was misty and quiet and I didn’t see a soul. I am grateful to live near this walk. Dinner at 7 was a big bowl of steamed vegs with pinenuts sprinkled on top. At 9 I had a few grapes and a kiwifruit with a little plain yoghurt. I probably could have done without that – I’m working up to it. Overall, for me, it was a good FD. I find it easier when not working.

@debster251, thanks for your kind words. Yes, hunger does come and go. I’ve never dieted before as such, so <800c is a good place for me to start. Your upcoming caravan weekend sounds wonderful! Enjoy. 🙂
Thanks to others, too, for the hugs and encouragement (@Onahealthyhigh, @basyjames et al…). @bert1802, yes, it’s sure not instant for me! @queenbee20280, well done!

Goodnight All! Or morning or afternoon.

Day 7 FD St. Louis USA
My last festive the week. Will weigh tomorrow morning. My new goal is 132 pounds.

For those who are having trouble sleeping, I have found something that is working for me quite well. In the past, I have used melatonin and sometimes magnesium. I had to stop the magnesium because it made my bowels too lose. My new go to favorite is banana tea. I kept seeing the recipe and decided to try it and was very surprised how well it worked. You take a banana and cut off both ends then you boil it for about 10 minutes in 3 cups of water. The recipe said to strain the banana but I didn’t really see anything to strain so I just took the banana out of the water. You can sprinkle a little cinnamon into the tea. I think the cinnamon is optional but I like it. One recipe said to add chamomile flowers but I didn’t have any so I haven’t use them. I think it might enhance the effect.I drink a cup about a half an hour before going to bed for the last three nights and have slept incredibly well. I forgot what’s in the banana that supposed to help. I think potassium but might be magnesium also. They say there is more right under the peel which is why the boiling helps. You can also sprinkle some cinnamon on the banana it is it is well.

All my best to all of you on our shared journey. Tip of the hat to those of you who fast over the weekend. Not my cup of tea, banana or otherwise.

    Day 8 – Portland, Oregon – NFD

Yesterday went great! After my half bowl of soup around 12:30 we had a dinner of cod filets baked with asparagus and yellow squash and mashed sweet potatoes on the side. It was delicious and I barely missed the butter I usually use to do the bake… 🙂

@flourbaby – I love making soups so this will probably work very well for us. It is a bit tougher when the weather is nice though. Also, I’ll have to gather up some lower calorie soup recipes!

@saffy420 – Also a good idea. I wish I could just tell him to prepare his own darn meal, but that would make it harder for me in the long run, so…adjust we will! I’ve never tried making a single serving of rice or noodles just for him, but that really does sound not to hard as a solution.

Day 8 Lancaster, US FD @happymargo Sounds fun floating down the lazy river, even if we aren’t in bikinis yet. ✨Have fun!😊
@songbirdme He liked, likes the soft white foods… not a healthy diet. But he wouldn’t eat ice cream and candy till he was 9. So he was actially underweight, because he wouldn’t eat other healthy foods. Now we have gotten him to eat meat, and veggies, (he’ll eat about 4 different kinds now.) I’ve managed to move him to brown rice away from white process rice. When he was younger he would go for days without eating anything if I didn’t make him the the processed chicken nuggets. He didn’t like anything with spices.. so I would make his meal and I would make our meal. He is willing to eat healthier foods now with my husband and myself. It’s his twin sister our darling booper.dooper that has had allergic reactions to chemicals and added sugars in food. Also things like orange juice causes inflammation, headaches, allergies, inability to breath. So I make her dinner separately.
@coda I just saw your DH’s name is Roy. My hubby’s name is Roy also.😊
@redrockgirl302 I have found the @1,000 mgs. of amino acid; tryptophan with b6, and magnesium tablets helps me sleep soundly all night. While fasting I need to take an extra 500 mgs. But I have had this sleeping disorder since I was 14 years old.
Other things that have helped myself and others in the group are the magnesium oil spray that you spray on your feet. Warm water with lemon, Neuro sleep has the ingredients that you’ve been taking. Whether I’m fasting or not, sometimes I take all three to help me sleep. 😴 Thanks @sirisan I just saw the information about banana tea….I’m going to give that a try as soon as I get a chance. @redrockgirl302 I will copy and paste her post here, in case you haven’t seen it so far.

@iaminthefuturenow I really like your name on the forum. I’m not sure 🤔 if you mean it the way I see it. But I always tell our children, we are already connected to our solutions and our best future, we just have to calmly connect to the calm flowing energy and follow our inner wisdom and the energy will bring us the solutions to our most beneficial future, that is already happening. 😊wow, I don’t usually share that with people except hubby and twins. I guess that shows I feel comfortable in this group.😊

Fast day again for me today and tomorrow 😊

@okeydokey: Thank you very much for all this good information!😊 I need to sleep. With 8 hours sleep per night I am feeling like a different person. Ready to take on life, not yawning all day long! 😄😄😄

@chitown-gal — no, you’re right, I could not get back to the city again as I had a graduation party I had to attend. SOME DAY when I am near there, I will let you know, and we’ll do dinner somewhere again!

    Day 8, Germany, NFD

    Day 8 lancaster pa. NFD.
Started as a FD which died around lunch. 🙄🙂😊

Ok. I just gladly killed it. There. Whew. That’s a load off.

    Day 8 Oregon USA NFD
Messed up yesterday and ate over my 800 calories. Today is a new day.

#Rainbowsmile – I had physical therapy for my painful shoulder for several months with no relief. I was then sent to an Orthopedic Surgeon who ordered a MRI, which showed a torn rotator cuff. I had surgery the next week. No driving for 6 weeks and pain meds for about 2 weeks.
After months of physical therapy I regained my full range of motion and no pain. It’s a difficult recovery but was very successful for me.

    2nd post.

What is it with the human mind? I’m 17kg down and have 10kg to go. And my FD is going well. And tomorrow’s B2B will happen.

So why do I find myself thinking about what I would like to drink on Saturday night? Why should the fact that England are playing Argentina in Rugby have any bearing on my attempt to reach my goal weight? It’s only 10kg for crying out loud! 2 months or so and I will be in maintenance where drinks are allowed outside fasting days! Frustrated!! 😡

Given all the mentions of booze, for those in the UK who like hoppy beer, brewdog do a low alcohol beer called Nanny State which comes in at around 30cals a bottle (250ml I think) according to MFP if I recall correctly. You do need to like the hops though, otherwise it would very much be an aquired taste. I’ve had it from Waitrose and Tesco’s as an occaisional something else to drink, particularly in BBQ weather.

    Day 8 | Alaska | FD

Feeling pretty good today, actually feel like I’m making some progress. I was 145 on Tuesday after my fast day on Monday, then Wednesday (NFD) was 145.8 and today was 145.2, to have a loss after a NFD feels victorious and was just the motivation I needed for my FD today. The least I’ve weighed since starting the program May 1, was 144.8, I believe I will break that after today’s fast.

I also added a HIIT bootcamp exercise class 3 days a week since starting this 5:2 program in addition to my daily yoga practice, so I’m feeling stronger to. I’ll be 45 this year and maybe in the best shape of my adult life.

Unfortunately, my OH is in the worst shape of his life and refuses to do anything about it. He was pushed too hard as a kid to be an athlete and be the best, so as an adult he has rebelled and refuses any kind of diet or exercise. I don’t nag him about it as I know that will just compound the problem but I worry for his health. All I can do is lead by example and hope one day he will tire of feeling like rubbish and want to make a change. He’s younger than me by 4 years and is approaching his 40th birthday, I think there’s is an awakening that usually happens with that, so hopeful he will have a aha! moment.

Like I always say, every moment is a new chance to turn it all around.

    Good luck to everyone today.

    Day 8 UK B2B

First day of B2B, going well so far. Broke fast at 6 Pm so approximately 21 hours since last night’s food. Really busy at work so quite easy not to eat! Same again tomorrow. Hopefully!

Day 8, Germany, FD turned into NFD.

    Day 8 – Cumbria UK – NFD

Ate and drank slightly above TDEE but a good day with a 1hr Aerobic class this morning

    Catch up tomorrow

Day 8 Massachusetts USA NFD Three day road trip finally over. Looking forward to my FD tomorrow. Had 1/2 of a Philly cheesesteak for lunch and 2 pieces of pizza for dinner. An ice cream cone mid-afternoon. Still under TDEE but nothing green and no fruit. Now that I’m in my own (vacation) home, I’ll be able to shop and cook. Good good news about my LDL (bad) cholesterol. It’s dropped from 215 down to 190. I’m sure it’s the intermittent fasting. It hasn’t been below 200 in decades. How’s everyone?

Day 8, USA, Missouri Ozarks, NFD

Hello all, maintaining below goal weight of 145.

Spent the day out with friends, took a big bag of great clothes to the resale shop that benefits the women’s shelter – and bought a cute brand new burgundy purse while there !! … Ate at Wendy’s, had chili and a root beer float.

Had a great day, hope the same for all.

    Day 8, Guildford UK, 2 day B2B

Made it through. Slept today, still in pain.

Bad bottom burps. Glad its today not yesterday on plane. Still have grumble tumm.

    Hope everyone got through.

    Day 9 – Brisbane Australia – NFD

Broke fast at 12.30pm today after dinner last night at 6pm, with 2 poached eggs on mushrooms & spinach. So tasty!!

Going to enjoy my NFD with a Chinese dinner tonight with my hubby. I can smell it & taste it already!!

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone!! 🙂

    Day 9 | Germany| NFD

    Day 9 UK FD

179.6lbs. The election results giving me a little hope…

    Day 8 USA NFD

    Day 9, London, UK, NFD.

Quick check-in today, aiming to be too busy to sabotage the good results of my B2B2B. Today will, hopefully, be a very controlled 18:6 or better.

I hope everyone has a great day today, good luck fasters!!!

    Day 8 UK NFD 🌈
    Day 9 UK NFD🌈

Hi all, so many posts to catch up and squats to do. Had a busy few days but still here, hope everyone is ok and doing well. Catch up tonight, and over the weekend, missed my global group, Keep on keeping on xxx 👊🏻

Days 8 and 9 Tasmania Aus NFD

Sorry yesterday got away with me so didn’t get on here. Down a bit from the b2b2b, whoever asked about them, sorry can’t remember, but I find they are sometimes convenient and sometimes give a boost, sometimes scales wise, sometimes just mentally to feel like you are in control. Interesting @fatrabbit that you find you don’t lose any extra with the day in the middle. I can see how this could work. I often lose bigger either the first or third day but not both.

    Day 9 Newcastle UK NFD.
Two very steady NFD needed then my weigh day on Sunday. Hopefully a good loss.
I use the 5/2 tracker anyone not measuring I would recommend it.
It’s a great spur to push you on your weight loss seeing the inches fall off has given me a great lift and drives me on to succeed. I also leave little notes on there about my failures and successes which is interesting to read back and help me keep on track.
Good luck and keep at it.

    Day 9 | London, UK | NFD

Pleased to be putting yesterday behind me as I didn’t have a very good work day yesterday. Nothing major, but one of those days when things don’t fall into place.

Getting back on track after a slack week, I let a couple of snacks creep in. I will have a controlled 16:8 today.

Happy Friday, have a good one people.

    Day 9 NFD Wales UK
Thanks for all of the welcomes.
I fasted Monday and Thursday I think it went well I only ate evening meal and some fruit…. did my best to work out calories without kitchen scales. I used an app on my phone.
I have been reading on here….soooo much to catch up on.
I am trying to just keep it simple for now… not counted calories in years as I’ve been following other diets sobuts quite strange again.
I am pretty short and don’t do exercise so my bmr and tdee are disappointingly low😏
Best how off here and get to work. Chat later.xx

    Day 9 NFD
Fd yesterday went well -02kg this morning my garget is set for October hope to reach it, Keeping to 5:2 is working for me and hubby we control are eating on NF days but do have a treat at the weekend.

    Day 9/NFD/Melbourne Australia

Nice to see you back @taraga. Very impressed with your fasting.
    @songbirdme we call trousers/pants dacks!
    @coda what a wonderful holiday!
Stay strong everyone. Enjoy your day.

    Day 9 Belfast NFD

    Day 9, Germany, FD
    Day 8, FD

Last day of my b2b2b. Things go well and I am happy with my fasting.

Day 9 Post 1 Huntingdon UK FD…. some progress with weight loss. Pleasing .

    Day 9, Belfast, NFD

Yesterday’s FD was ok – not so busy at work and I found myself researching 5:2 recipes which is pretty much like torture. But I made a lovely low-cal spiced sweet potato and red lentil soup for dinner. It was really wet and miserable here in belfast so a big bowl of soup kinda suited the evening. Had a cracker swim after work though…60 lengths and nobody else in the lane. Amazing. Love it!

@lmrenfrey thanks for teh Brewdog beer tip! I don’t mind the hops.

I bought some soda water yesterday as my plan is to get onto the white wine spritzers, to reduce the calories. I’ve thrown some grapes in the freezer to be a garnish. I’m not really a spritzer girl, a pint of Carlsberg would be my tipple, or a big glass of red, but needs must 😉 If anyone has any wine spritzer or low-cal cocktail recipes or tips, please post!!!

    Good luck everyone today!

    Day 9…..Florida…… FD

I woke up feeling like a Mac truck had ran me over, then I was put into the washer on the spin cycle for a couple hours! Not sure, I can only speculate that I either slept very hard or my potassium levels are low. The only thing I did out the norm yesterday was to pull the potatoes out of the garden.

I do have some good news to report, I’ve been doing 5:2 since Nov., been on a nasty plateau and even gained three lbs back from my lowest weight but since Monday, I’ve started to track my calories on both FD and NFD. This is something, I haven’t done in years but it truly seems to be helping and the scales have been nice to me all week.
I’m going to keep doing this through MFP, and see if I can use it to finally get into the 130’s and actually stay there!

@ Belfast sink….. I have a friend who uses carbonated flavored water in her wine to make a spritzer type of drink. She says it makes it bubbly plus, the flavoring increases the flavor of the wine. Basically, it helps it not taste watered down. She started to do it not for weight loss or anything but to stretch her bottle when times were tight in her household. She always said she would buy a bottle of vino and a litter of the flavor water on Friday and she could enjoy a glass or two everyday all week long.
Unfortunately, I don’t drink, so having a glass every night escaped me…..

Well, I’m off. I’m going to really try and not be late today!

I’m sure if everyone was Kung-fu fighting, we’d be able to tell because everyone would be black and blue!

    Day 9, Newcastle UK, FD

Ok @bert1802 – got that. When you get a minute would you give me your days for June 1st to 7th to save me reading back and I’ll track you from now on. Ta muchly.
@fordprefect – you pretty well summed up my week – I just gave in.
@bigviking – why don’t you build in a couple of drinks for the duration of the match on Saturday? That’s perfectly normal on this WOL. Pre-planning is a good tactic.
    @lola907, @Schatzii & @safarigirl – great progress 🙂
Pleased to hear you arrived safely @mogaman – how exciting – a 4 month vacation!
Hi @lynzm 🙂 @lindasue – sounds like a very satisfying day all round.
@jmh44 – I’m climbing into your pocket in the hopes you can drag me back on track too. I’ve had one of those weeks too – but that’s life. Like @loubelles – I need to do a B2B today/tomorrow to try wrestle back a bit of control.

Update on Dad situation – he’s moving on Tuesday – putting all his worldly goods into storage and going to stay with my aunt & uncle who have the space to have him. Fingers crossed the property viewing tomorrow goes well.

As for the election result – what a nightmare – we must be the laughing stock of the world right now.

Day 9, Northumberland UK, NFD (16:8 ish)

NFD planned today, but been out for a meeting this morning and other than milk in a cup of tea I haven’t yet broken my fast. About to head for the gym, and do some shopping, so potentially quite a low cal day.

    Day 9 – UK – FD

Day 9 Akron Ohio, 2nd day of B2B. I usually stay under 500 cal on my FD, but was closer to 800 yesterday; was making dinner for my family and indulged. I thought about breaking the fast completely but so glad I didn’t follow through on the thought.
Since I’m in maintenance, I fast during the week so that I can indulge in desserts and alcohol on the weekends – so far it’s working out for me. We leave for Cancun week after next, for the first time in a long while, I’m looking forward to spending all day in bathing suits and not worrying about the way I look in it. Thank you IF.
Make today awesome my friends, onward and downwards.

Day 9, Rocky Mountains, BSD 800 cals

Day 9 Chicago, Illinois USA – FD

Day 9 FD- West Yorkshire UK

    Day 8 NFD

Started my day a bit bleary eyed after staying up to watch election results into wee hours nevertheless I did my usual spin class this morning.

I usually have lunch and dinner on fast days and skip breakfast, this only work if I exercise tho.

Tomorrow is weigh day my fingers are crossed.
