  • Day 5 Australia NFD
    Thanks all for the warm welcome-back. You are a wonderful group of friends.
    Half-way through the week and down 1kg. Just need to keep going down, not bouncing back up each Monday!
    Stay strong and happy everyone!

    Day 4, Ottawa Canada NFD

    I ate well within my calorie limit today. I got 10k step today, also did a Jillian upper body workout. I will do another FD tomorrow.

    Hi @coda – thank you for your messages and support. And for establishing this wonderful group and keeping us all together! xx

    Day 4, Mountaintop PA USA, NFD

    @coda Love your highlight to the maintainers. Just like a gold star or medal. Thank you!

    I am 5 lbs below my original goal weight and am so into the WOL that each day gets easier. Enjoyed several days of July 4 fun meals. Steak, chicken, hamburgers and tonite pasta. Am very satisfied with small portions. Enjoy a Cosmo or two now and then and balance the day with a nice mountain hike.

    I don’t worry about calories day to day as I devised a solid nutricous breakfast years ago and on FD’s it is the same but with a huge salad and some protein for dinner. The little bit of”hunger” that comes now and then tells me that I am on the right path. Eat fresh real food and good health is the result.

    Day 5 Thailand NFD

    Struggled terribly yesterday with first FD ever on holiday. I was so ravenous all day long. I don’t get that when I am at work.

    I would be interested to hear what people in very hot climates are eating on FDs. My food yesterday (salmon patties, cauliflower rice) ended up in the bin, despite me being really hungry. @mirandash – watermelon and feta sounds refreshing.

    Best wishes to all on the board. Hoping to do better on my next FD tomorrow.

    Hello,

    I’m brand new to this fast diet and I’m super keen to try and even though I’m a few days late I’d like to join.

    I was planning on starting tomorrow and will try and keep my fast days as Mondays and Thursdays.

    I live in Sydney and I’m hoping to lose 5-10kilos. I’m not sure what is realistic for a month so I’ll aim for 4 kilos.

    Looking forward to it.

    Day 5 * Germany * NFD

    Extra post – This Mediterranean Diet is just right for me at the moment. I had a pan-fried fillet of white fish (just a spray of olive oil), with mixed salad leaves, one large cherry tomato and 2 tsps of a homemade saffron yoghurt dressing for breakfast; a nashi pear for a snack; mixed green vegetables for lunch plus some carrot and celery sticks and 4 strawberries. I will make seafood and pearl barley risotto with homemade fishstock for dinner and I will still be well within my TDEE! On top of that I had a 30-minute walk this morning followed by a 20-minute walk at lunchtime. Now to keep it up.

    DAY 5 UK FD

    FD not successful yesterday – now to try again.

    Day 5 UK FD (3rd FD of AFD 2 weeks) 🌈

    AFD working for me ATM, all I have to do is say, I will have it tomorrow and temptation disappears.

    Water intake good 💦🐉, although yesterday was very tired. Might have been my food choices, cake – homemade cannot resist, (had to forgo lunch)and rice with dinner, haven’t had rice for a while, felt immediately tired.

    Also had a little late night snack, still trying to break that dragon 🐲,Maybe if I set it as a challenge I might be successful. It’s definitely mind set not hunger.

    Love the way someone explained that you borrow your new low weight on the scales and finally it sticks. I get excited seeing the new low, then up then new low, then up, then finally it’s there and I’m going for my next new low. ⚖️

    👊🏻Keep on keeping on, a good habit is formed by good practice, and we all know practice makes perfect!

    Day 5 – FD,UK

    Got majority of my food prepared for today; lots of raw vegetables, couple of slices of breaded ham and a couple of hard boiled eggs. Feeling positive that it will be okay like Mondays fast.

    Aching after FightKlub last night and didn’t have the best sleep either.

    Onwards and upwards… Good luck to those on a FD today, let’s do this 🙂

    Day 5 NFD/Melbourne Australia

    Not a fast day but getting back into the zone.

    Thanks @at enjoyed every🍷🍺 just a few too many!

    @fatrabbit loved your new approach to the scales. As a serial weigher I loved jumping on and off the scales during the day. I agree rather than feeling down when the scales moved up or down, it was a great motivator and really made me understand how my body worked. The only weight that mattered was my regular weigh in on waking every Thursday. This is the one I record on my tracker.

    To all who post about the pound/s gained after a dinner out, weighing myself regularly made me realise the pound ‘gained’ was usually food in transit or water retention due to excessive salt intake and not an actual pound of fat! It takes a lot of calories (3200) in excess to gain that fat back! My weight could rocket up a good kilo and a half but it was soon flushed away.

    @hannahwatto glad you are enjoying the Mediterranean diet. Dr Moseley highly recommends it.

    @alandem welcome. Have a read of @coda ‘s post at the top of page 1 to see now this works.

    Some may remember I was doing a calorie audit before my recent holiday to work out why my weight was creeping up. I hate counting calories but record my estimates each day.The slice of sourdough bread my tracker recorded as 80 calories, when accurately weighed, actually contained a whopping 189 calories. That was the worse but I realise I was eating way over TDEE. Maintaining really requires constant vigilance. I’ve been maintaining below goal since April 2015.

    I love this WOL. I wish you all a similar journey because 5:2 can work.

    Day 5, UK, FD
    Scales still not cooperating.

    Day 5, Northumberland UK, NFD

    Good FD yesterday around 550 calories as I was hungrier than normal in the morning and ended up with an eating window of 11am to 3pm, plus a couple of cups of tea with milk. However, I successfully drowned the snacking dragon so that is a good reset. Still trying to find my balance for maintenance as I want to keep one fast day a week, but don’t want to fill up my TDEE with too many sweet treats and wake all of the dragons.

    Second post. I’ve downloaded google sheets. Can anyone help me import the spreadsheet? It’s such a pain trying to access and edit it in Safari. Thanks. I have an iPad.

    Hi @onahealthyhigh

    I also have an iPad and when I downloaded google sheets and clicked on the spreadsheet link, it duly appeared on the sheet. I don’t think I had to do anything more “technical” than that as would have been well out with my computer skills! I am also able to add and edit on the sheet without saving. Just click on the square you want to write on, type in your info on the little bar at the bottom and it should appear in the right slot.
    Hope that works!

    Day 5, Newcastle UK, FD

    Good to see you back @hannahwatto – I hope time is helping you heal. And good to see you too @lilymartin – I called out to you on Day 2 – along with a few others I’m missing. Good to see you too @endellion and welcome to all our newbies this month. You’re in good company.

    @sirisan – I banned the ‘sorry’ word last month and yet I have to apologise for not having achieved my 2nd B2B FD yesterday (since I was meant to be your B2B buddy). For a good reason though – OH took me out for an impromptu lunch to cheer us both up on a very wet and miserable day. Today I ought to be able to achieve an FD. The good thing is that this month I decided to start logging calories again and still find I was just under TDEE yesterday. This WOL has definitely changed my overall eating habits for the better.

    Congratulations @redrockgirl302 – great news so early on in the month – you’re going to have a good one!

    Another wet and miserable morning but hoping it fares up this afternoon so I can get at least one customer’s garden done today. I missing too much exercise recently. Thank goodness my poorly knee (which I didn’t mention given I’d only just got over a poorly back) is better and I can go to dancing tonight.

    Keep on keeping on – together we can do this.

    Day 5, India NFD

    Day 5 | London | FD

    Morning all, I’m back with my second fast day of the week and July.

    Reading the comments on the Mediterranean diet, I tend to follow it, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. For dinner on those nights we have a piece of fish (haddock / cod / salmon) cooked in the oven with mixed veg (tomatoes, courgette, peppers, mushrooms, red onion). Thursday onwards is more sociable, I go to mums on Thursday for dinner and the weekends we may go out, or I will cook – only something like pasta, but now pasta feels like a treat.

    What I wanted to say was I started the FD in May and went down 9lbs. I didn’t maintain fasting in June, going on holiday was the main reason BUT i didn’t regain any of the 9lbs, i put this down to the med diet mon-weds and although I didn’t fast, I was more mindful eating in June. overall whilst there wasn’t any weight reduced my mindset is changing and I think this is half the batttle for me.

    My point is I recommend the Mediterranean diet 🙂

    Have a good day all. I’m working from home and planning a lunchtime run.

    Onwards and downwards!

    Day 5 UK FD Really want to get a 2nd fast under my belt this week, then I’ll feel as though I’m back to good habits, nice and sunny here so hoping to get out and enjoy

    @coda will try with the spreadsheet – it seems i have to find some old Google password from years ago x

    Day 5 Newcastle UK NFD.
    Over ate again on a non fasting day.
    I’m finding the fasting days very easy but need to take more control on the non fasting days. Although I don’t eat till 12 noon and most dinner times at work is soup and fruit I fall down after evening meal time that extra bowl of cereal or Weight Watchers chocolate bar it’s like I’m telling myself it’s alright to have a little bit extra because I’ve had no breakfast and I do the two non fasting days lol it’s amazing how I lie to myself. Focus and control definitely need more of this after meal times. Have a great day everybody

    Day 5, Wales UK, NFD

    Day 5 UK NFD

    170.4 lbs. Bertha isn’t bouncing! I have had a lower number every day this month so far. Eating lots of berries clearly agrees with me. I grazed heavily off the raspberry canes again yesterday afternoon but ate nothing else until half past six. I have noticed that I am getting very hot while I sleep, maybe that is burning extra fat away. Probably to do with hormones but working in my favour for once. Whatever is causing Bertha’s suddenly improved behaviour I like it! I probably jinxed it now though, sure to be up tomorrow…

    Thank you for the advice. @mia 139. It worked.

    Day 5, Hampshire, UK – FD

    I have been feeling a little bloated recently, I am purposely avoiding the scales because I have a feeling that I wont like what they show, I will weight myself on Saturday morning only to see if I have managed to loose anything for the week.

    Having said that, I was feeling rather down yesterday when my online shopping arrived and to my surprise, my Topshop size 12 dress was too big, I was a little surprised and I am still convinced that it just could just be the stretchy material but there is a small chance that my weight loss is starting to show, I have ordered a size 10 replacement which arrives this evening, if i fit into it then this could be the boost I really need as the scales have stopped moving down.

    I am starting a pocket list for Day 5:

    @brightonbelle
    @jmh44
    @Strawberriesandcream
    @bigviking
    @msraven
    @lynzm
    @jarbia
    @lilymartin
    @xrox

    Good luck with your FD everyone…

    Day 5 – Woking, UK – FD
    251.4lbs
    The scales are not my friend this morning. I have the Fitbit Aria wifi ones and they seem to be developing a habit of not syncing when I get a nice looking lower weight (like Tuesday when they twice showed me 249lbs). This morning when they showed me 251.4lbs they have resynced the same reading 4 times already. I’m starting to think they are taunting me. @fatrabbit I’m glad yours are being better behaved – well done on the lower numbers.

    Anyway, I’m refusing to take them seriously today as I made the rookie mistake yesterday of failing to drink anything at all until about 12.30pm. One of those crazy days at work where I kept getting interrupted and just forgot to fill up my water bottle or even get a cup of tea. That coupled with a 45 minute session with my personal trainer last night makes me think I’m probably a bit dehydrated and that extra pound and a half is water weight.

    I see there are quite a few of you who seem to have this drinking 2-3L of water a day sorted – any tips or advice? I start the day with best intentions but seem to get distracted far too easily and next thing I know I’ve gone 4 hours without drinking!

    Adding myself to the pocket list for day 5:
    @brightonbelle
    @jmh44
    @strawberriesandcream
    @bigviking
    @msraven
    @lynzm
    @jarbia
    @lilymartin
    @xrox
    @liathanail

    @stevetoontaxidriver I haven’t eaten a bowl of cereal or poured myself a glass of fruit juice since I started this WoL in February, and I think that has helped massively with the cravings. I have introduced Oats occaisionally of late, but usually cold with fruit and yoghurt – but that was more for the possible gut health benefits, when I look at the calorie count I’m still a little put off.
    My brain has retrained somewhat for fasting/controlled eating with a weight loss target, now it needs another retrain for maintenance as I want to continue with a regular fast day as I do feel much better for it.

    Day 5, London, UK, NFD.

    Still on the ADF path and it seems to be going well. Usually the 1st NFD after a FD is very controlled because I mentally don’t want to undo the good work of the FD, the second is usually a ‘normal’ day then, if I have 3 NFDs in a row, all hell breaks loose on the 3rd day!!!! So, I think ADF is the way to go at the moment, controlled NFDs are far easier and the binge-dragon doesn’t have the opportunity to sink his claws in!!!!!

    The summer sun means drowning the numerous dragons I have acquired, (binge/ carb/ red wine/ snack) hasn’t been too difficult, 4L water yesterday, aiming for the same today and the squishy bits hopefully signal an impending Whoosh!!!!

    @liathanail, this was my earlier post to @taraga regarding water consumption, I think he found it helpful, so I hope you do too. ”[For me] it’s usually a minimum of 3L and I get 1L out of the way 1st thing after I wake up (we get dehydrated during sleep…. Apparently!!), then I use a 750ml water bottle which never leaves my side and I make sure I have 3 refills/day so usually 2.25L (+1st 1L) which I try to sip throughout the day and I’m usually finished by 7pm dinner. On the days when my body didn’t require that amount I’ll get up just once in the night. You get very used to it quickly, your body adapts and trips to the loo get less and less particularly when the empty fat cells start hanging on to the water, and then the magical elusive WHOOSH, once the cells realise you aren’t starving and release that water!!! It REALLY does help with whooshing!!!!!”

    Keep the faith, fellow fasters, You KNOW this works, despite plateaus or gains, this does work, as long as you persevere!!!!!!

    Day 5 UK NFD

    Just back from an hour’s fast walk… trying to up the exercise when I can. Lunch with the “girls” today but have looked at the menu and decided what’s best to have.! Out for dinner later too with a friend. This might be more difficult but will try to be mindful. Have to take the car so no wine calories!!
    Glad the advice on the spreadsheet worked @onahealthyhigh… can’t believe I gave technical advice which worked!!

    Day 5 Scotland NFD

    I managed to loose another 200gr after a NFD, so I’m happy. Will fast tomorrow as on Friday I am meeting a friend in the morning and another in the afternoon, so I may have a treat (or two!!!). This morning I’m comfortably wearing some pre-first-pregnancy trousers, I am SO happy. When I’ll be reaching my target, I’ll be wearing pre-wedding clothes (and lots of nice dresses!00.

    Just a comment on the Mediterranean diet: I’m really puzzled about the fish for breakfast. We usually eat pastries with coffee/cappuccino, at least on the European side of the sea! 😉 Anyway, I guess the point is eating lots of seasonal vegetables, oil of olive and fish. But we also eat lots of carbs (bread, pasta and pizza), which I guess are fine if you are in maintenance.

    Day 5 Belfast FD
    Confession time. Yesterday was a complete disaster. I lunched with a friend and a FD turned into a NFD. I shopped, bought a whole lot of rubblish and promptly ate it, which released the sugar festdragon. 🐉🗡. Grrr Then, of course, I regretted it. Why do I do this to myself when I’ve been fairly well on the straight and narrow for a while now?
    @lola907 your story sounds so much like my own. My hubbie loves fried food is a heavy drinker (which he totally denies is out of control) and to top it all is type 1 diabetic. He does control his sugars very well – in fact it was him who put me onto 16:8. I have been married for 37 years and would attribute my weight gain to comfort eating. I retired two years ago, and had nowhere to hide. Last year I gave myself a good long talking to and started this WOL. You only get one life and you have to live it for yourself as well as others. Since Easter I have been on a mental journey too to sort my OWN life out. Hence Strawberriesandcreamcam’s post ‘I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions’ was so pertinent. Sending you a virtual hug.xo
    @xrox hope your size 10 fits. Nothing like a smaller size for a boost.
    Went to the pool this morning and swam like a demon to get rid of that sugar binge. I can’t fast today completely, as I have family meal tonight but I shall stick to water to banish those extra pounds. Onwards and downwards everyone.

    2nd post

    @flourbaby – thanks for the advice that’s really helpful. I have a 1L CamelBak on my desk at work, it’s the filling it up first thing that I keep failing to do. I can definitely put a bottle of water next to my bed at night though and drink that when I get up which will make a big difference.

    Whooshing seems to be the way I lose. I’ll have a slow creep up of about 1.5 – 2lbs over a week or two then suddenly drop 4-5lbs over the course of 2 days before the cycle starts again. Its not unheard of for me to go 3-4 weeks with my legs and tummy getting lumpier and squishier before it finally shifts.

    That’s one of the reasons I use Trendweight as it evens all that out and I can get a better idea if I’m drifting away from actually losing weight and need to readjust.

    @coda thank you for the spreadsheet. I have downloaded google sheets and can edit on the iPad now. Much handier. I love the fact you’ve highlighted those people maintaining. What a goal to aim for!

    @coda, thank you for hosting this month’s challenge! I hope you don’t mind me joining in a bit late. I’ve been contemplating on whether or not to join this month as I’m probably not able to sign in every day, but finally decided that the accountability and the support here are too beneficial to pass up on. I already took the liberty of adding myself to the spreadsheet.

    Starting weight for the month: 59.6 kg

    Goals for the month:
    – weight below 59 kg
    – fast at least twice a week (my usual days are Monday & Thursday)
    – get my sprained ankle healed (I hope to be able to run by the end of the month)
    – keep up the skincare routine I’ve reinstated + no picking/squeezing on impurities in skin -> clean, evenly toned, healthy skin
    – work at least 1 h/day on thesis

    My fasting so far this month has been as following:
    Day 1 – NFD
    Day 2 – NFD
    Day 3 – FD
    Day 4 – NFD
    Day 5 – NFD

    Day 5 – St. Louis, MO USA – FD

    Hello everyone! I’ve enjoyed reading all the posts since yesterday – lots of new and also familiar faces!

    @at,@SongBirdMe, @coda – thank you for the replies. I had forgotten about the whoosh effect studies/data and now I am thinking that is what has happened to me too!!! I have been plugging along pretty well without too many FD but being pretty consistent overall, and then a few days ago – DROP! I actually weighed myself a couple to be sure the scale wasn’t low on batteries! I experienced that before a few months ago too.

    So for those that didn’t catch the link that was posted, you may find it very interesting and a relief to know that the scales don’t alwaYs show the progress you are making. Stick with it – you may see a big change (down) and experience the satisfaction of seeing your hard work pay off ‘all at once’.

    Stay strong everyone!

    Day 5…..Florida…..FD

    Had an enjoyable day at home yesterday, to bad it’s back to work today. I did successfully get my garden weeded which I’ve been trying to do for a couple weeks. Starting in Aug., we start preparing the garden for our winter crops. We’re extending it this year because I’ve run out of veg. early. So, it off to the farmers market for the next month or so. I don’t mind the framers market, I can get veg., I don’t grow but I add about 40 buck to my budget plus it kills me not knowing what they are using as far as bug and growth chemicals.
    Veg tastes better when it does not have anything on it.

    I’m not sure who asked but I would like to answer what do people in warm weather climates eat. For me, I tend to skip breakfast, lunch tends to be very light normal veg, a med size salad, then a normal size dinner. We do however tend to eat later at night, then most. We do live in the a/c majority of the time, so I can use my oven and stove with out additional heat killing us.

    Well I’m off, my husbands being chatty this morning, so I’m having difficulty writing and listening at the same time…..

    At any given time, the urge to sing the “the lions sleeps tonight” is just a whim away, a whim away, a whim away!

    Day 5 Sunshine Coast Qld Australia: NFD.
    A couple of days of childminding and not getting to the computer. Still, it has been on my mind. Haven’t been very successful to date at getting back on track. But I know it is possible so will hang in there. Hello HannahWatto. Will dig out my mediterranean diet books tomorrow and see if I can get inspired. Have to admit I made rock cakes with two of my young granddaughters today and must have had several. They were really yummy. I cooked chicken curry for lunch which I felt was appropriate for my husband and son as they were working out of doors. But need to get away from the rice etc. Time to get more upbeat and on target. Cheerio, one and all.

    Day 5, South Wales, NFD
    Still no downward trend on my scales after a 3 week plateau, so it was interesting to read posts talking about the whoosh effect (I live in hope!) – thanks for the explanation @flourbaby.

    Day 5 – Cumbria UK – NFD

    Hope all our American friends had a great 4th of July!

    Great yoga class this morning – a strong and energetic one – feeling good after both mentally and physically

    @coda – that’s a mighty big wagon 😉room for anyone on this forum who needs it! Thank You for highlighting the maintainers on the spreadsheet – makes me feel like I have got a medal already and will encourage me to continue on the maintenance pathway xx
    @privilege and @alandem – Welcome to the 5:2 WOL – great advice already given – just follow the basic 5:2 diet as it works – signing in daily to the challenge is a great motivator and you will get lots of support and great advice on here. The following link by @simcoeluv might also prove helpful and answer a lot of your questions:– https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
    @lisalily82 – Great job for staying strong but why don’t you treat yourself to something that fits into your diet and that you really enjoy eating when the family have their pasta dinner then you won’t feel deprived!
    @snowflake56 – lovely to hear that all is going well and that you enjoyed your vacation and that maintenance is going well for you too – there are now a few of us 💃
    I agree with you where is @okeydokey ?? hope you are OK? drop a line to let us know
    @endellion – nice to see you here and doing well
    @steve-toon-taxi-driver – you have got this – will be willing you on…….
    @fatrabbit – go girl you are are killing this 👏

    Will have to finish catching up later as I have to be off soon for my volunteer afternoon – doing a 20:4 today as taking OH out for a belated birthday meal tonight at one of his favourite restaurants with a wonderful taster menu………..will be over TDEE no doubt but will try to stay mindful with the 🥂🍷

    second post.
    @Strawberriesandcream thanks for the shout out. Can’t remember if I said that before but thanks anyway. The support and friendship of this site is amazing and keeps me going.
    Sitting here trying to get inspiration from the posts – and they do help – but who ever said that ‘ hunger is your fat weeping’, well my fat is having a full blown, you beaut, thrashing around ‘ I don’t want to go!’ crying out loud , sobbing tanty.
    I am VERY HUNGRY!!!! It is about 2C and SOOOOO cold.
    I take my hat off to all the ‘Northerners’ who managed to fast during your much colder winter.
    I have drunk lots of water which is very cold and makes for an extremely efficient bladder!!
    I am determined NOT to ruin what has been a really good FD and I only have to last a few more hours then off to bed.
    @bert and all the songsters on this thread. I’ve taken to singing
    On the Challenge, the Ju- ly Challenge the dragon sleeps tonight. On the Challenge the Ju-ly Challenge the dragon sleeps tonight ( and hopefully-in- the -day.)
    And my choi,oi,oices for fo-od are just a whim away! a whim away!…
    Working so far but off to make another coffee to stop me eating!.

    Hi there I’m new to the forum and new to 5:2. Started today with a FD. Will be doing a Monday and Wednesday fast. I’m 45 female and from the UK. I have recently got engaged so have a goal but also doing this for the health benefits. Think enrolling in a monthly challenge would be good for me as a bit of a novice at this. I would like to lose 4 stone x I’m a little late joining the challenge but hope that’s ok x

    Day 5 USA-WA FD
    Yesterday’s FD turned into a NFD with a full 4th of July feast at our family farm, so today my body is longing for a FD with basic food and not too much of it!

    Day 5 – USA (Illinois) – NFD

    Yesterday turned into quite a CD at about 1100 calories. Mostly just wasn’t very hungry. That’s fine with me!

    Busy day today giving piano lessons and Silver Sneakers exercise class.

    @lumat – I’ve been on maintenance since December 2016, and I still don’t eat all the carbs I want to. At least I can have a piece of bread, bun, muffin, or croissant every so often without too much regret. Almost never have pasta. My Fitness Pal (MFP) is my constant friend to track my calories, and I always watch the carb numbers there too. At my TDEE it says I can have 224 carbs per day, but it seems I never have that many. I am more likely to only have about 100-150.

    Onward and downward, everyone!

    second post

    @liathanail regarding the water, I use to be terrible before 5:2, I mean I would forget to drink any water for days but what I found worked for me is that I buy a 6 bottle pack of sparkling water on the weekend and have it my desk drawer, I aim to drink 2 a day but usually do 1.5 and I will get water with my lunch and dinner to make it to 2 litres. Sparkling water is brilliant at tricking you into thinking you are drinking something more exciting, at least it works for me.

    @debster251 thank you very much, will let you know tomorrow 🙂

    Day 5 NFD. So far so good.

    Day 5, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

    Maintaining below goal weight of 145 (this morning it was 142.8) Broke the fast last night with a homemade egg salad sandwich with sliced avocado on toast (eggs were 43 cents a dozen, Grade A large, Aldi’s last week. I so love Aldi’s. Had a handful of potato chips, end of the bag. Thought about opening a new bag but then I thought how tempting a new, fresh, crisp bag of chips would be and declined.

    Regarding the question about water, I drink at least a gallon a day – I keep a half gallon carafe on my desk at work and/or my island at home and drink it (twice filled) throughout the morning/day/night. For those that really don’t like the taste of water put in one of those 5 calorie straws of pink lemonade or one of the many other great flavors from Crystal Light or Wyler’s. Just one straw in a half gallon of water is enough to flavor it but not make it a sweet drink. Or, of course, infuse with lemon or other fruits. We have great well water at home but not so great water at work so I adapt as needed. Also make lots of cups of green tea throughout the day when a “treat” is needed.

    Day 5 – UK – NFD

    Well, I wrote a long post, got timed out, had to sign back in again and it disappeared. So in a nutshell, thanks to all for the helpful low carb comments. However, I love my bread too much to think about giving it up just yet – still struggling with foregoing my morning (and afternoon) pastries even though my waist has responded by shrinking nicely.

    So, my question is oh wise ones, is one day low carb better than nothing or will it make absolutely no difference?

    Day 5 – USA – FD

    First FD of the month and so encouraging to read the many uplifting posts on this forum! I feel privileged to be given a window into many of your lives and I appreciate the candor and humor. Had a wonderful 4th with friends bbqing and hanging out in the yard, topping it all off with a great display of fireworks, thanks to my OH, who is a great entertainer, cook and communicator! @pippapah, I am a breadie also, and I found great low-carb alternatives using either almond flour or coconut flour on ketoconnect.com. Check it out; they are delicious and low carb as well. You may well end up incorporating it into your daily bread allowance and wind up being low-carb 7 days a week!

    Day 5 – France – NFD
    Your posts have kept me going during a very long, boring working day, thank you! The sun’s back in full force, house is heating and my brain’s fuzzy.

    I love all things Mediterranean too, and the season’s just perfect for all the wonderfully coloured veg in the markets (and tomatoes ripening in my garden too).

    Like @pippapah, I have a question for the wise ones: having just read Dr M’s Clever Guts (fascinating), does anyone know if it could help with gastric reflux? My hubbie suffers from it and am thinking of trying a week or two of his suggested menus. Or any other ideas for ‘heartburn’ except the ghastly sachets he takes daily?

    Day 5 Oxford NFD – oh boy oh boy is it an NFD.

    Haven’t overeaten but I haven’t been able to fast this week either. Am house sitting and looking after 6 pets for a friend, 3 big dogs and 3 cats – don’t have a moment to myself to think let alone cook. The house reeks of dog and I am stressed to the eyeballs, its taking all my focus not to have fish and chips every night to be honest.

    So this week is about maintaining. Bigger picture, I’m still doing fabulously well, and I’ve been on 5:2 180 days this weekend.

    Feel rather bummed out not to have any fasting days this week, but that’s just the way it goes – its the first time ever, but I cant compete with 6 animals and a non cooking friendly dog hair filled environment, I just cant. Back to sanity next week.

    Pray for me.
