  • Afternoon JSGAC friends,

So, I went home last night and cooked my yummy pork chops with lots of veg. I had managed to only have 400kcal in the day so was hoping my meat and veg was going to be nice and low. I stuffed my tea down and THEN looked at the calories for the chops…500kcal as I had 2, I was devastated, my whole tea came to 850. I know, 1250 isn’t bad, but for me this week it is!

@xamos, I fully understand what you mean with it not quite fitting in sometimes. I from next week and doing what your now stopping! For me I shall be FD mon, wed, fri every week. Good luck and I’m sure you make it work to fit around you. There is no such thing as a diet, its a lifestyle change.

@grins Lets hope you get your goal! I know how great a feeling it is! I shall be posting a picture on FB shortly to show how much my skin has changed from changing my diet from fatty food to healthy vitamin loaded ones!

Happy weekend people, I’m having NO alcohol this weekend and being good. I need those 4lbs off by weigh in Wednesday morning xx

    Hello!

Before I forget here is the link for the running group on fb for lessofme and anyone else. https://www.facebook.com/groups/WeeklyRunningTuneup/

I’ve been reading your posts in email as they come but haven’t been here much; I’m pretty sure my fasting days are over for now. Last week I burned at least 2000 calories in exercise on top of fast day, and this week it was probably 2500 (ran 15 miles this week, did strength training, and did 50 minutes of speed indoor rock climbing yesterday, likely around 500 cal). I did a FD on Monday, didn’t properly fuel/nutrition on Tuesday and Wednesday my body was giving me serious negative feedback – I was exhausted and very cranky – classic signs of overtraining or underfueling! I’m losing too many intentional calories exercising, and unintentionally with kids (they eat off my plate! lol), that I really can’t add to it. My weight is also still slowly tracking down. I’ll see what my schedule looks like after the races.
@xamos – I felt like I could run maybe 10 miles/week (total) with fast days, but as soon as I added any sort of strength I was done! Maybe I’ll see you in the fb running group – although I’ll have to join our JSGAC fb page first so we know what each other looks like!

Honestly you all have done great! I know someone was lamenting only having lost 2.5 lb for the month but that is totally normal! If you lost 3 lbs a month for the year it would add up to almost 40 lbs!

I’ve been really grateful for the things that the 5:2 has shown me, about hunger, about emotional attachment to food (and occasionally eating my emotions just scratches the surface! I like them buried!). I feel really confident about my body’s need, or lack thereof, of eating all.the.time, like I often did. I really enjoy how my brain feels after fasting, and it gave me the boost to think that I could successfully spend a month fasting other things, like alcohol, sweets, and facebook. That there are awesome communities here with people coming from all over the world to share their stories and encourage and support people they haven’t met, and the humbling feeling of inspiration through learning those stories and victories, big and small. Thank you for including me here!

    Dear Friends,

Happy Sunday! Had an especially restful day yesterday. Have had 3 days in a row with weight training and looking to make today a 4th as it is too cold to run (taking a break tomorrow). Received an excellent year-end review from my manager Friday afternoon which will translate into a very nice raise next month. While I have some good skills, not sure I deserved the review results but appreciate the divine favor! In any event, I am happy to say that I did not celebrate with food πŸ™‚ (or drink – my wife is doing the South beach diet and I prefer not to drink alone at home). Looking forward to going back to church here in Maryland this morning with my wife! My FDs have been inconsistent this month but I am working on putting some solid days together in terms of caloric intake (although still struggling to be consistent). Recent focus is on having a “balanced plate” for lunch and dinner to help keep calories in line. Enjoying this journey with all of you!

As we hit the home stretch for January, want to applaud all of us who are taking charge of our lives. If you hit your goals or lost ANY weight this month, congratulations! Let’s finish strong!

@xamos – really marvel at the stellar month you are having! Hope your FD schedule changes work as dieting can obviously be tough in social situations. Any thoughts on a consumption “boundary” for non-FDs in social settings? (Just one thing that will help you avoid going overboard on NFDs). Really impressed with your focus!! Any thoughts/perspectives/motivations you can share with the rest of us?

@hippyhayles – you’re doing some amazing things this months and would like to see the photo. (Need to post one myself). Hope your dry weekend is going well!!!

@grins – wow, what a great month you are having!! Great planning ahead for the weekend. Love the positive outlook!

@j-ray – what a wonderful post! I am especially encouraged by your reflections on eating and self discovery. Isn’t overcoming emotional/spiritual eating really the goal? Learning to function in a world where we must eat but our metabolism slows/caloric needs go down over time? This is how we thrive day-to-day without gaining weight when we stop “dieting”. Hope the group continues next month and hope YOU remain even if fasting doesn’t make sense for you. Also hope your alcohol fast has been as beneficial as it sounds. Finally, so motivated by your commitment to exercise and thx for the FB link!!!

    Happy Sunday JSGAC –
It has been an OK NFD weekend. Had a few things hard to turn away from, like at my daughters fundraiser – I was behind all the food (have to wonder to myself if I placed myself there on purpose???) there were lots of treats, which I did have small portions of 3 different bars and garlic bread which was delicious! Friday night – went off my plan and drank much more than I had wanted – beer..ugh! But at the dinner party last night – I had one glass of wine and that was it – of course the desert was crΓ¨me brulee – my favorite and I ate every bite. So – up a bit on the weekend but still down considerably from a week ago last Monday which had been a real bad weekend.

@j-ray – Yes, wonderful post. And I think it is important to take in the mental issue of how this affects us, the hunger or emotion that we are actually feeling – I know so much of it is habit…see and grab and eat…but like yesterday at the fund raiser…in some ways – all those bars sitting there – I should have found someone else to work it. That being said – in the past, I would have eaten much more than I did. So, this week – I am going to think about your post and really put the mental perspective on every bite! What is it? Why am I eating it? Is it for nourishment of my body – or my feelings? Perhaps I should put these questions on my fridge…or the back of my hand!!!

@Hippy – the pork chops were probably over your calories…but it could have been worse..as far as at least they were protein calories and not from sugar like a pastry or something! I hope the no booze weekend went well for you. Boy, sometimes it can be tough to be human!

OK- last week – as @lessofme says…lets finish strong! I am confident in my 6 lb – but would really like the 8!

Hello all and happy Sunday πŸ™‚ really glad we’re all feeling positive.

Thanks for all of your support with my decision! I fear getting on the scales as it might well confirm what I suspect, which is that I’ve undone all of my hard work for the rest of the month with a reckless week πŸ™ lets see on Wednesday. Definite re-focus needed for February.

@hippyhayles i’d still say your calorie count of 1250 is a huge success πŸ™‚ well done to you

@j-ray so sorry to hear it sounds as if you’re leaving us but overjoyed you’ve reached the maintenance phase of your journey! As @lessofme34 says please don’t feel as though you have to leave this group, we’d love to still hear from you even if you just want to pop in every so often πŸ™‚

@lessofme34 wonderful news about your work! I’m sure you deserve every single bit of recognition, both monetary and otherwise! Interesting you should mention consumption tactics for social NFD’s as I’ve been thinking about it a little, I was thinking potentially skipping a meal if I know i’m going out and just ordering a main course, or doing something like avoiding carbs etc. Some rule that I can adhere to so I know i’m not going to fall off of the wagon and wont have to manically attempt to count calories so I can still have a good time. What do you think?

@grins huge congratulations for your strength at your daughters event, sounds as if you have a lot to be proud of and have exercised a lot more self control than me this weekend. I also adore crème brulee mmmm!!

I’m about to post up the February Small Group accountability thread to give people a couple of days to sign up before the month starts.. also so I can avoid getting too busy in the middle of the week and starting late again! Hope you’re all happy to have me looking after the spreadsheet again πŸ™‚ I’m thinking of making a few changes (adding weight and goal weight) but do let me know if there’s any suggestions you have, I’ll post the link up here when I’ve created it!

    Here we go lovely people:
    https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/februarys-small-group-accountability-challenge/

Lets finish out January strong then give February a run for it’s money too πŸ˜› xx

Sorry I’ve been incommunicado lately, last week was a bit of a FD disaster – I didn’t manage to complete any, although I did start a few πŸ™ So, NFDs for every day since I last posted.

However, this is a new week, and I’m feeling newly motivated, especially after reading everyone’s posts – you’ve reminded me that I can do this, it is worth while, and I just need to persevere…

Doing a FD today (and now that I’ve told you all I have to complete it). I’m a bit nervous to weigh or measure myself after last week, hopefully the damage isn’t too bad. I’ll do a start-of-month tally on Weds though…

    Morning everyone,

@hippyhayles, stay strong. Great decision on avoiding alcohol at the weekend. It is difficult but worth it!

@j-ray, well done and I wish I was as good with excercising. I am trying to increase mine currently.

@lessofme34 congratulations on the pay rise! And on doing back to back FDs!

@xamos thank you for organising February group already!

@grins ok NFD weekends are what we want, we don’t want binging weekends and you definitely showed will power!

@karlanz stay strong! It is a new week and time to turn things around.

A little bit about me “staying strong and turning the situation around”:

Had a very good week, lost 4 pounds. I feel I am on track now. My weekend was very good too, I simply have no time (before my hols) to mess around. I am in the mode and I hope nothing will change that!

    Happy Monday JSGAC friends,

So this weekend didn’t quite go as planned, I failed miserably on the no alcohol and ended up drinking a whole bottle of vodka on Saturday night!! I had a great night with my OH, daughter and some friends and luckily didn’t have a major hangover yesterday. So I managed to stay on plan yesterday which I’m pleased about!

@j-ray keep up the good work with the running! Sounds like your doing amazing at the moment but yes you need to keep your calories up with all the exercise your doing.

@lessofme34 congratulations on the raise!! Totally agree with the applause, we have all done amazing!

@grins just reading the food you’ve eaten is making me hungry!! I have been watching food videos on FB this morning, what an idiot, I’m on a FD and watching food porn!!! HAHA

@xamos even if the scales do show you something your not happy with its not all bad. We are into another month soon and you can set a new goal for the new month! I’m so pleased your happy to continue the group for next month! I really do love how personal this group is compared to the large ones. My goal for next month is 14lbs!! I shall be FD every mon wed and fri (hopefully)

@karlanz That’s what we are here for! I’m sure it wont be as bad as you think. I think even tho we feel we are “cheating” we sub-consciously eat less anyway, I have defiantly found that even when I reach for something I shouldn’t I only have a bite not the whole lot. Friday night I had a hot chocolate(low fat) and 1 chocolate finger. Normally I would eat the whole box!

@tanchora Wow, well done! That’s a great loss!! Nothing better than a good loss to give you the motivation to keep going and prove the hard work is worth it all in the end.

Stay strong and I cant wait to see what amazing results we all have on our Wednesday weigh in’s!!

    Good Morning All,

A fine Monday morning. While it was a NFD, I was able to hit my calorie targets for yesterday and looking to do so again today. Will be flying to Dallas for a 10-day business trip on Wednesday (my wife will be out of town this weekend so I decided to just stay instead of flying back and forth). Business travel always brings some challenges but that is next month and focused on finishing strong in January πŸ™‚

@tanchora – GREAT job with the weight loss – fantastic! Have a great week!

@karlanz – have a good bounce back week!

@grins – thx for sharing your victories and struggles from the weekend. 6 pounds of weight loss is wonderful.

@hippyhales – hope your weekend went as planned!

@xamos – would enjoy a weight loss goal and excited about a Feb group thank you sooo much for leading this effort! You are awesome!! In terms of a boundary, my first question would be is there something you could start that could lead to a life-long habit? Perhaps no second helpings at dinner, always have some healthy fruit or vegetables with a certain meal, no eating after a certain time at night, or a drinking x ounces/ml of water per day? Just one that you feel will really help with struggles with food for day-to-day living, diet or no diet, and see if you can do it for at least three weeks. For me, I stopped eating sweets/desserts entirely and also implemented a no eating after dinner (2.5 – 3 years and running for each). Started each independently, several months apart btw. Had some challenging moments but eventually 3 days in a row became 7 which became 14 … etc. Of course had several failures before getting my final streak together and prayer and reading scripture were extremely important (you’d be amazed at the number of scriptures relevant to weight loss and the spiritual/emotional struggle with eating). I’ve also had other streaks I’ve started which did not take hold … yet! (Especially eating mid-afternoon when I am fatigued although this month has been better). One last point, a boundary could certainly be “only have dessert 2 days per week” or the like but I found those types to be a struggle personally but they may work for you. Sorry to ramble, hope that is helpful.

    Hello all, happy Monday.
I did not fast last week, and I am not sure what my weight is today but will weigh myself tomorrow. I did 16:8 most days except Saturday.

30 and 31 Jan are FD.

I had a lovely weekend and of course food was a part of it. We made a Nigella Lawson sticky toffee pudding plus caramel ice cream and Vienetta ice cream, with double cream, and squirty cream. So this was a feast. And it was lovely, as well as a very easy recipe for the pudding. Even though I made half the quantity suggested by Nigella, we had leftovers the next day.

We also made teriyaki chicken (home made! And surprisingly, a big hit with everyone including both kids!). We bought supermarket pork ribs and duck with pancakes. I don’t eat those things as I’m veggie so I had fried halloumi cheese with mange tout and baby sweet corn.

I used all the leftover squirty cream to make hot chocolate and mocca coffee. My concession was to use artificial sweetener. I had about three of these per day.

I tried to be low carb, apart from the desserts.
@xamos I do agree that fasting can be boring so I need to have some freedom too and don’t usually fast at weekends.

I am proud that this weekend I did not drink so much alcohol, probably between 20-25 units over 4 days (my slightly extended weekend started on Thursday due to feeling stressed). I will have three alcohol free days this week. My alcohol consumption is still too much according to guidelines but for me this was better than usual. I am rewarding myself for my small virtues by putting some money into a savings accounts for treats. Perhaps a weekend away on my birthday!

@hippyhales your meal sounded lovely and maybe it doesn’t matter if you eat too many calories one day, there is always tomorrow.

@j-ray, and @lessofme, you sound so fit and healthy that I am awe-struck.

@j-ray feeling cranky affects me too. I feel too tired sometimes from fasting, especially I am expecting a difficult day today as I woke up hungry! Luckily I am on my own for the rest of today and until tomorrow night so I can fast and be cranky on my own. Am slightly ashamed of being moody last week, despite no FDs.

@grins creme brΓ»lΓ©e is my fave too and hard to resist. Our kitchen blow torch fell down the back of a cupboard though so we did not make this for a year or more.

@karlanz you are motivated and that is the important thing. We are both fasting today so good luck to us!

    Good luck to all.
    X

    Hello all πŸ™‚

Another day of feeling sorry for myself unfortunately! I seem to have come down with a horrible sore throat.. I could feel it coming on last night but was wishing I might sleep it off! No such luck and it’s out with a vengeance today.. hopefully it doesn’t stick around for too long. On a positive note at least it’s making my FD relatively easy as I don’t much fancy eating anything anyway!

@karlanz no worries i’ve had a tough week too. Hope todays fast is going well.

@tanchora amazing weight loss well done! Loving the determination.

@hippyhayles I can’t wait to see what this group brings next month either πŸ™‚

@lessofme34 very helpful thank you πŸ™‚ I’m trying to drink at least 2 litres of water a day but that habit needs a bit more work still. I also really need to get into the habit of eating 3 square meals a day on NFD’s, a major part of my downfall is that I could quite happily just snack on unhealthy things all day long, never having a proper meal and never being totally full up but just sort of topping up on sugar etc throughout the day. I feel I really need to sit down at set times and eat a proper meal so I don’t get caught out. I tend to find meals very boring if there’s nothing sweet involved! I also tend to panic when I think about working this when i’m out and about.. may just have to carry a lunchbox with me everywhere!

@smeagle sounds like a very yummy and successful weekend πŸ™‚ love the sound of your menu.

Day 30 – FD (made it this time!)
    Day 31 – NFD

Thanks all for your words of support and encouragement πŸ™‚ Now I’ll just have to wait and see what tomorrow’s weigh in and measure reveals!

As well as recommitting myself to fasting two days a week, I’m also gong to try to keep my step average at (or above) 10,000 steps a day.

    Hello lovelies,

So the last day of the month is here and what a month we have all had, lets see what we can pull out of the bag for tomorrows weigh in!!

Good luck and I will see you on the other side!!!

    xx

    Hi JSGAC friends
I have a cold but I am fasting anyway today.
Also I weighed myself today and am 1.6 kilos off from my goal.
This has shocked me a little. I can only fast properly if I have one meal per day with my calorie allowance then, and it only works for me if I save the entire 700 calories and eat it in one go in the evening. I haven’t fasted properly in that manner since before the festive season. I am getting by on water and hot drinks and trying v hard not to give in.
Yesterday my fast didn’t work out as I snacked all day.
Today is FD, and I am finally doing what works for me – haven’t eaten at all yet. I will wait til 9pm because my partner returns from his biz trip then.

Good luck everyone and thank you for your company this month.
    X

Last day of January lovely JSGAC people,

Still got a rather sandpapery throat but i’m trying to not feel too sorry for myself, past two fast days have made a little allowance for what i’m calling “poorly calories” so I can have some cough sweets and honey. May or may not have been a chocolate biscuit yesterday too..

@karlanz I like the 10,000 steps goal, I may adopt that one too!

@hippyhayles thank you for your encouragement, looking forward to tomorrow πŸ™‚ I’m certain you’re going to have a fantastic success.

@smeagle I also weighed this morning and was further from my goal than I would like.. very annoying as I definitely would have made it had I not slipped up. I was in the 65kg’s! I’m going to remember this feeling for next month if and when temptation rears its ugly head.

A quick update for those who aren’t in the Feb group – final weigh-in was 66kgs, so I did lose about 1kg, despite falling off the wagon for a bit. Which is better than nothing (or a gain)… I want to do better next month though!

More importantly though, I’ve lost 1.5cms off my waist this month, so I’m getting closer to that elusive healthy waist πŸ™‚

Thanks all for your support, see you in Feb!

    Hey JSGAC group,
Today was my weigh in for the month – I did not hit my 8 lb but was at 6.8 lb loss for the month. Today is my daughters 14th bday and so I have taken her to lunch (and being that there is no where with healthy decent food in this small town, I asked between the taco’s and Pizza, which had more calories and he said the pizza – so I went for the Tacos’ they were large and I ate them all – lots of lettuce though.) Tonight family dinner with her – making pot roast and will probably have cake…tomorrow is a brand new month!!! YEA~!~

I will start the month with a FD!! Hope to see you all in the FSGAC group.
I am also feeling a slight bit of movement in my pants…so that is nice!

    Cheers!
    Grins

    Good morning All,

Finished the month down 3.8 lbs (pleased). While my FDs were inconsistent, do not feel like I was dieting. Sent a Facebook request and will post a photo from this morning. Had a tough Monday for eating but rebounded well yesterday. Looking forward to our February journey!

@xamos – feel better!! My heart goes out to you trying to avoid overindulgence when your feeling ill. Thank you again for leading this group!

@smeagle – wow, hope you feel better too! Hope your FD went well (lol, no way I’m fasting when I feel lousy, just hoping for break even/no weight gain!) Impressive!

@karlanz – way to embrace the weight loss – awesome!

@grins – wonderful results for Jan! WTG!
