  • Sorry to hear about the funeral Iona. Was it someone important to you?

I am thoroughly fed up with the lack of movement on the scales or tape measure. There is just 3 lb to shift to get to the one stone loss. Its been weeks of bouncing around the same numbers despite IF and making good choices. There has been cake this afternoon for a birthday celebration but I just had one piece and didn’t have much for lunch.

Tomorrow I am skipping breakfast, out walking in the morning and keeping busy before a roast dinner in the evening. I am at a bit of a loss quite what to do to shift these resistant pounds apart from keeping going with IF. I am certainly not going to meet the goal of 14lb by the end of the year.

    How is everyone getting on?

A plateau can be very frustrating @annette52 but don’t give up, keep on doing IF and eventually things will start to happen. I think I will just miss my October goal so now I’m thinking ahead to November! Good luck to you.

    Thanks Iona.

Perhaps change the goal to 3 lb by the end of the year and then start the new year with the goal of 14lb loss for 2025.

I can only be consistent and try to be patient. Damn frustrating but I am not in charge, my body is.

Today I am skipping breakfast and possibly lunch in an effort to see some movement with the tape measure or the scales. Planning to repeat this again tomorrow and hopefully that will nudge a change.

Term starts again next week, so currently redecorating and sorting out stuff. Plenty to keep me busy today and tomorrow.*

    How is everyone doing?

Still no change so I will have to make some changes instead. Switching some lunches and evening meals to salmon, tomatoes and cole slaw, which I love. The aim is to reduce the carbs which I am already having at work. Hopefully this will make a difference.

    How is everyone doing?

I am wandering way off track. I ate too much on Saturday and the wrong kind of stuff, and couldn’t keep out of those pesky Halloween treats. Today has been marginally better and no alcohol so that is a plus. Expecting bad new from the scales tomorrow 😩

    We are merely human, Iona.

I have managed a day without any biscuits but feeling very virtuous despite the pudding and custard.

We had roast chicken yesterday and I didn’t have any Yorkshire pudding. Planning on leftover chicken today and tomorrow with coleslaw and tomatoes. Hopefully the scales are moving down wards….

Well great news, the scales have started to move downwards, finally. Lunch at school is usually carb based so I have opted for protein, tomatoes and coleslaw slaw in the evening.
Today will be a roast and crumble which I will enjoy. The real challenge will be Cake Thursday tomorrow. Let’s see how that goes….

I was a paragon of Virtue on Monday and Tuesday, not on Wednesday and it wasn’t great the rest of the week. But despite that, my trousers are certainly looser around my thighs. Finally back to the pre Australia weight with the elusive 2 lbs to lose which will give me a 14 lb loss. Measurements are exactly the same.

I skipped breakfast today and hopefully that will help with my new goal of 2 lbs by the end of the month. The plan is to eat carb free for 3 nights out of 5 next week.

Bought some Christmas food today. I like to buy some each week from now on the spread the spend.

Things are looking better for you Annette. I haven’t lost anything in November despite the goal of 5 pounds. I hope the next 2 weeks will be productive, I feel in control and eating has been good today so I don’t see why I can’t lose something!
I’ve been thinking about Christmas food but that’s as far as I’ve got, although the turkey is ordered. I really want to buy mince pies but I know what would happen…..🙆🏻‍♀️

I have been in denial about having carbs in 2 meals a day, Iona. Its a compromise with the boy and I eating different food 3 nights next week, but hopefully I will be able to avoid the siren call of the biscuits and Cake Thursday.

I have bought a Christmas Cake(un-iced) I love icing but my chaps do not plus 2 packets of mince pies and a pudding. They are all quite safe until they are opened at Christmas. I have been practicing by buying the boy things that I love but not touching them. Its working so far…

For years now, I can buy food when I am fasting and its perfectly fine. I have a sore throat and a silly cough which is annoying and makes me want the sweet stuff to cheer me up. Of course the joy would be short lived.

Lets see where we are next weekend, Iona. Hopefully a bit less of both of us.

Frustratingly the scales are still exactly the same BUT my hips are an inch smaller and my trousers are fitting much better, so something is going on. On the plus side I can see improvements in the mirror even though my scales seem to be broken.

    How is everyone getting on?

Ended November at exactly the same weight as I started the month. I’m taking this as a positive in that I didn’t gain! December is obviously challenging, so I would like to try and be sensible for at least the first 2 weeks and hopefully drop a pound or 2!!!! 🤔

Me too Iona. I have the same 3lbs that just won’t shift. I am beginning to think that it’s never going to go.

Next week I have a meal out as well as 2 Christmas meals. I feel like giving up and starting again after Christmas.

    The jury is out.

Lost a pound ~ put half a pound back on!
    🎉🪅🥂🍽️
    Silly season is hard!
    Keep on trying 💪

I am so fed up with no movement so I ate 2 mince pies which were delicious while Storm Darragh scuppered family visits, which in turn meant that the boy and I had a lemon tart for 8 between us to eat in two days.

In my head I shall eat what I like next week as the last week of term with the Christmas dinners and a meal out, that gives me 9 days to get some fasting and sensible food in before the 3 days of madness and then the boys depart.

My plan is to skip a few meals both before and after the silly season and see what happens. I have to say, I lack optimism that the scales are ever going to move again.

On the plus side I am several kilos lighter for the blood pressure review than I was a year ago, so that’s progress.

I feel your pain, Iona. Unlike the rest of the population, I will have stood on the scales on the 27th to asses the damage. I loathe New Years and all the nonsense and then have a birthday 2 weeks later.

My next goal is going to be April, when I go on holiday for a week. There are clothes that I would like to wear but can’t get into currently.

    Morning All,
Stood on the scales this morning and the seem to have acquired several lbs, which is not a surprise after this week. The hard one half an inch off my waist is back on too which is disappointing but not a surprise either.

The plan for today is to skip breakfast and have a light lunch. I am off for coffee this morning with a friend and really need to buy some food for the boy and I to eat this evening.

Its 11 days until the blood pressure review. I wonder if I can get the scales and waist back by then???

I have been given lots of chocolate at work, which is lovely but I intend to share as much as I can with the boys when they are home for a few days. Sadly I love Christmas cake, mince pies and christmas pudding.

Rather pleased with myself today. Completed a 24 hour fast. Hopefully that will help in the bid to lose that pesky half an inch off the waist.

Going to skip a few more breakfasts in coming days and to eat mindfully every day.

I am doing ok, managing to maintain and resist temptation although I did have a mince pie today at a children’s party. My Granddaughter was in her first dance show, at age 2, it was very cute!
Hoping to stay on track for most of next week, but we are out on Thursday for our Christmas party so I’ll be tucking in to turkey and all the trimmings and a bit of Christmas pud 😋
Keep up the fasting Annette, it really does work.

    Well done Iona.
I forgot to stand on the scales this morning which is a bit annoying but I have eaten mindfully today so far. Planning to skip breakfast again tomorrow.

Disappointed that the scales are exactly the same but I skipped breakfast and didn’t eat until 3pm.

Shall aim to do the same for 2 more days this week. Sharing out the work chocolate with the boy.

How wonderful to see your little granddaughter in her dance show, Iona. I don’t have any grandkids or expect to have any which is sad.

    Onwards and downwards fast friends

No change on the scales or the tape measure which is so disappointing. I am at a loss to know what to do to reverse this and fasting doesn’t seem to have any impact at all.

I was going to skip breakfast but now I question whether there’s any point. I might just wait until the boys have left after Christmas and then start again.

    How are you doing Iona?

Well there has been a Christmas Miracle. The scales refuse to budge but I have reclaimed that half an inch off my waist and most excitingly, have shrunk half an inch off the bust.

I am thrilled as I have been learning to sew clothes and had made 2 shirts for me that should have fitted. They didn’t, no where near and have been hung up until they did and then I could think about making button holes. I can now think about making button holes.

My Christmas plan is to join in and have fun, eat what I like and then start again after the festive season is over. Its only 2 days and I am looking forward to having some of the family together, however briefly.

Glad things are going in the right direction for you Annette. I’m struggling to stay well behaved when it comes to meal times now. Lots of festive food in the house, but like you I’m not going to fret and get back to it after the holidays.

    It’s not for long Iona.
I have made chocolate truffles and coconut ice, for gifts. I have eaten the coconut ice that couldn’t fit in the jar but if they’re in the jar then they are safe until Christmas morning when I pop them in gift bags.

I may fast tomorrow and Christmas Eve, by skipping breakfast or I may not. I shall see how I feel when I wake up.

A few family members are ill atm, so I really hope I don’t catch it. Daughter and family arrive tomorrow so chaos will ensue I’m sure. I’m not planning on fasting til later next week but trying to be mindful these next couple of days.

There’s lots of bugs around, Iona. I was struck a few weeks ago with a sneezing, cough and sore throat that lasted for a few weeks. Kept waking up in the small hours coughing and then couldn’t get back to sleep.

Had the blood pressure check up and weigh this morning. All good and weigh 4 kg less than I did a year ago which I am pleased with. Hopefully I can double it next year which is a goal.

There have been truffles and coconut ice but nothing else today has been excessive. I don’t imagine that tomorrow will be dreadful either.

My plan is to enjoy the next few days and then get back to skipping a few breakfasts. Also planning to lift some hand weights for 10 minutes every morning and evening.

    Have a lovely time ☺️.

The boys have gone home and the house is now back to normal. There’s food leftover that can be eaten over the coming days so when it’s all gone, I will get back to fasting.

It’s lovely to see them, and lovely when they go back to their lives too. Hopefully I won’t be hosting next year.

I didn’t really over eat and did get out for a walk each day apart from Christmas day so I hope the damage isn’t great.

Taken the plunge on the scales this morning and it’s not much of an increase from before Christmas. Okay, so this is the starting point for the coming year.

No standing on the scales on the 1st January and feeling depressed.

We have waved goodbye to family members too, spent the day tidying up, clearing the fridge, doing laundry, generally getting back to normal!
Just a half a pound gain this morning but this week between Christmas and NY is always the time I eat too much, with leftovers, snacks, chocolates etc -so I intend to be mindful this year!

Well done Iona on half a lb, mine is more but it will go again. Waiting to find out what the boy is working this week and then I can plan the final week of holiday. Looks like another storm coming in on New Year’s Day.

I have decided to redecorate the dining room which is my sewing space too. Found some leftover paint and painted 2 walls and the back wall of the cupboard. Took everything out of the cupboards and created a pile of things that I didn’t want anymore to make space for sewing stuff. Friend popped round and took most of it, great result.

It’s great to get back to eating normal food, my stomach certainly appreciates it. I can’t eat the things I used to.

I haven’t decided when I am going to fast.

Today is the first fast of 2025. I have just stood on the scales to assess the damage, which is about 3lb up from November. The plan is to skip breakfast this morning and see how I feel about lunch later on.

January is always a difficult month, my birthday plus its cold and dark. I do struggle fasting over the winter but I have a holiday booked at Easter and would love to wear clothes that I can’t now, so that’s my goal.

Skipped lunch today and breakfast yesterday. Hopefully there’s some improvement somewhere…

Well the scales are moving down by a little which is great but there’s leftovers from Christmas which we are working through….

There’s 6 weeks until the end of term, so my goal is to try to lose 6 lb. I work better with smaller goals, so that’s a plan.

Probably fast at the weekend and try and ignore the biscuits at work and choose fruit instead. I need to see what the food options are this week and make smart choices.

A good start Annette, we also have leftovers although I’m trying to give them away! I will weigh tomorrow and set a goal. I can see how easily I could get off track so I need to get my focus back.

I have given quite a lot of leftovers away and made a mental note not to buy them next year. It’s my birthday next week which is looking like drinks and nibbles at a friend’s house who has just had her knee replacement. I have a whole Christmas cake, bottle of Prosecco and cheese straws to share as my contribution.

I have been working my way through chocolate that I was given, some given away as gifts over Christmas. On balance I have been very good and avoided the worst excesses without feeling like I was missing out.

I suspect that this couple of weeks are not going to be great but that’s life. I can still wear the trousers that I struggled to get into in the summer.

And the winter walking trousers that have been too small, I tried on this morning and I can do them up. They’re tight but wearable and as it’s chilly I am wearing them today. Beyond thrilled 😀.

I am struggling to get back on track after the holidays but feel today was better than yesterday. All the goodies have just about gone now, hoping DH will finish off at the weekend and next week will be a clean start.

    Me too, Iona.
Its my birthday next week and there are meals with family and friends planned. I have just stood on the scales and am exactly the same as after Christmas, which isn’t much of a surprise.

So , I am starting small and skipping breakfast this morning. I might do the same again tomorrow before a birthday lunch. I just need to get this week done and then in my head it will all be easier.

Yes it always so much easier in your head isn’t it!
Have a good birthday, enjoy your treats and then….back to it!

    Isn’t it just?

I have had breakfast and lunch with nothing in the evening for 4 days out of 5 this week. Birthday evening did involve drinks and nibbles which was lovely although, there is still about a third of a Christmas cake to eat. But it is delicious.

My plan tomorrow is to see if the scales have shifted and take measurements, and skip breakfast.

But I am finding it tough with the cold, grey days.

There’s a tiny movement on the scales in the right direction. So my plan is to eat breakfast and lunch but nothing apart from some fruit in the evening in the coming week and to skip breakfast at the weekend. Let’s see what impact that has….
