  • Hi, everyone.

I’m a 28 year old male, living in England. I’ve been into fitness for a long time, but had a crappy period in my life that really knocked me backwards. I finally managed to get back into the swing of things, but struggle sometimes and understand that I need support. I feel this place may be the supportive and informational environment that I’m looking for.

I’m 6ft tall and currently weigh 192lbs. I’ve lost 35lbs, if not more, and gained muscle, in the last 6 or 7 months. (when I managed to really get back into fitness) I’ve been doing plenty of cardio, from biking, jogging, and long-distance walking. I do resistance workouts 3-4 times a week. (I should be doing 4, but I seem to have lost track a little, as I’ve been focusing so much on cardio)

I’ve been thinking about fasting for a while, but it’s almost in secret, because people think I’m nuts for even considering “starving” the body. I can see how it could be beneficial. I’ve not done a whole ton of research into fasting, but what I have learned, tells me that it is safe; it seems to tap into the survival part of the body, and forces it to draw from fat reserves. A concern I have is that I would lose muscle, which is why I would have to continue with my protein shakes.

    Hello,

I’m sure you’ll do fine. I gained weight during an anxious period of my life so I understand and if you need any support I don’t mind talking! I started for the second time today – gave up on the fast diet a year ago after losing a stone in only about 4 months (it was my target and I didn’t see the point in continuing, however I’ve set a new target).

I kinda know what to expect having gone through it before, but I also am having to relive the first week of it so keep me posted and we can go through it together!

I didn’t have a problem with losing muscle last time (although I work cardio and not strength), so I don’t think you have much to worry about but would be interesting to hear how you go.

Thanks, Foxy, and cool name. xD

I honestly have no idea where to start. Do I just… eat as normal then pick two days in a week to only eat 600kcal? Another concern I have is not being able to maintain my workouts. Does it get easier?

    Hi Progress and welcome:

This should get you started: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

You can maintain your workouts! I am currently training for a marathon and the fasting does not bother me the slightest.

Just give it a try and see how it goes?
    Best of luck
    Stef.
